If you want fresh groceries from a store that is very Texan, and synonymous with Texas, then HEB yourself! This looks like a shiny new HEB Store located down at Gulfgate Mall. It's not bad at all. They have the usual stuff and even some good sales. Security is a little on the tight side - perhaps because it's in a lower-income area - which is really annoying, because my HEB doesn't have anything of the sort. I have been going to this HEB since the first opened and there has been a couple of outstanding young employees. I should have posted their names and how helpful they were. Today a young man by the name of Gabriel was all smiles and helpful to me and the cashier. I asked if he could help me to the car and there was no hesitation like so many have done. He pushed my basket and unloaded it, he was kind and even had words of encouragement after he patiently listened to me vent about no handicap parking ever and my pain. My daughter and I went to the Southeast H-E-B location on 45 to by groceries. When we entered the store a lady damn near ran over my daughter with a grocery cart and did not stop to apologize. While ordering meat and cheese at the deli, the young male who worked behind the counter was extremely rude. It took 5-10 minutes just to be recognized. I almost felt it was because I am not a Spanish speaker. We were ignored several times before being serviced. A gentleman was asking my daughter and I where the milk was. We found a H-E-B rep who we thought would be different from the guy at the deli. To my disappointment, she ignored all three of us. When I asked her a second time where the milk was, she walked off advising where it was while her back was turned to us. Awful experience. Will not be back. read more

I purchased a Drum fish from the HEB Gulfgate seafood dept. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023. Apparently they did not want to scale and filet the fish. I was told to pay for the fish first then walk the receipt back to the seafood dept. and wait for them to assist me. I made them aware that I had limited mobility and they didn't seem to care. I made it to the check out, paid for the entire purchase and waited 20 minutes for them to filet the fish. It never happened. I asked for a refund from the front end manager. I was totally appalled at the treatment for this HEB seafood dept. A disabled person doesn't have a prayer in hell in getting assistance at this store. I live just 5 minutes away from this HEB. Yes, it may not be the best one in Houston and yes, it is Hispanic based... But they are located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. They are just catering to those who are more likely to shop there. Now, I have two choices, HEB or Sellers Bros to shop from. After exclusively shopping at Sellers, I made the permanent switch to this HEB. PROS- Their meat is very nicely packaged, it's just the meat and none of it's juices. (at Sellers the chicken was packaged in its slime!) The layout is easy to manevour They have Sushi-ya!! Best sushi ever. Do try the San Antonio roll. They're constantly adding bew HEB brand products (BACON JAM ANYONE??) Their selection of wines and beers is pretty decent! Prices overall are better and I LOVE the store coupons, combo locos, BOGOs and all those promotions. Also did you know at checkout they sometimes give you coupons for free stuff? I've gotten free milk, free salad, free ground beef, and even a free 6pk of their tea! Decently priced flowers in their flower section. Parking is huge Gas from their station is usually the cheapest around here. CONS- The produce isn't always the best. Sometimes fruit has bruises or gnats flying around. Some fruit is missing prices or is under the wrong price, creating confusion. Check out lines on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are a nightmare!!! BOTH my trucks have been broken into in that strip center. First in front of Ross where I got my stereo stolen. The other in front of this HEB where the crook stole my stereo, CDs, AND my baby's carseat. Who does that to a baby, seriously?? How was I supposed to take my baby home?? A$$holes. When I get home I realized the cookies had been opened and were missing all the front row and part of the second row. I was at the 15 items or less check out and I put my hand basket which contained 3 items on the conveyer belt. The cashier, Maria Gonzalez, asked me to take the items out of the basket. I asked her if she could do it since it was only 3 items. Her response was "No, I don't get paid to do that". I usually do take the items out of the hand basket especially if they are a lot but I had a ton of things on my mind. That is terrible customer service on her part! Is it really not part of her job? Sushi for lunch ! Stopped by for a snack during Sunday lunch time and ended eating sushi .... At heb , yep I said sushi ! It was a battle of choices between the hot deli Mexican plate or rotisserie chicken. Them I saw a sushi bar. They have about several choice rolls. All reasonably priced. Su chef preps right there in the area. I choice a 15 piec variety roll for less than $15, which I thought was descent compared to restaurant pricing. You can grab soy sauce or roll spicy sauce. Plus I enjoyed hanging out in store to eat my roll in the open eating seating area inside the store. We have been coming to this HEB for quite a while, the store is nice, everything is easy to find and most employees are more than willing to help you locate something you need. The produce is always fresh, the bakery always has a display of fresh cakes that look delicious! The meat also looks fresh and the prices are hard to beat! I won't buy my meat anywhere else. I tend to visit during the middle of the week so we don't have to deal with crowds as it can get very busy the the check out lines can get long. My only pet peeve is that they give handfuls of the buddy bucks to the kids and then we have to stick around while the kids use them on that spin the wheel thing. I don't even know what those little stickers are for, but we probably have like a million! If you need help, just ask! If you don't ask they don't know! read more

People can complain all they want about this HEB, but at the end of the day it is clean, well stocked and the workers are mostly helpful. I have only had one incident in which the guy at the fish market forgot to fulfill my order for steamed crab legs. I ordered them and when I went back 15 minutes later he had just forgotten! ugh, annoying! I told him to forget it, but not before letting his supervisor know what an inconvinience that was for me. I understand how things could be a lil more stressful due to COVID but this H‑E‑B is unlike the others.. I'm very disappointed in the management of this H‑E‑B. The aisles are unkept. Shelves are very messy with empty boxes. The checkout lanes are terribly crowded and the whole place is just, overall, chaotic. I ordered a Paw Patrol cake for pickup from your 3111 Woodridge location. The order was supposed to be ready on 2/21 @ 2PM for my son's 4th birthday party at school. When my husband arrived to pick up the cake, it was not there and the bakers had no order for it. My husband frantically called me and asked was I sure I sent him to the right location and asked how I placed the order. I told him the order was placed online and when he told the baker she stated that the online system had been down for weeks and they did not receive my order. The bakery manager offered a Batman cake.....I PROMISED MY SON PAW PATROL....EVERYTHING FROM PLATES TO NAPKINS WAS PAW PATROL. By this time it is around 2:45 PM. We only had an hour to have the party between 2:30 and 3:30pm. The bakery manager then offered cupcakes to my husband at no charge which I appreciated however my son's disappointment could not be changed. The bakery offered to fulfill the order the next day. They did make the cake the next day, but the order was incorrect. I was given a half chocolate half white cake and I requested ALL white. My son's name also appeared as "Voshua" instead of Joshua. I am highly dissatisfied with the service I received especially since I hold HEB with such high regard. If your online system is down, please make your customers aware on your website and have them to call and place orders. There is no reason why that should not have been done...especially if it had been down for weeks. The have the best chicken (flaming bird) grilled of any grocery store I have tasted inside. This isn't the closest heb by me, but I make a special trip over here just to grab a bird with the jalapeño and grilled onions that come along with it. All of the HEB' s that I have visited are always fully stocked and if they don't have it up front they have it in the back, all you have to do is ask and they shall retrieve. read more

This HEB is the worst. I have had 3 separate experiences that have all led to this one star review. This HEB doesn't carry a lot of the brands that other HEB's carry, especially any health conscious food brands. I tried to buy portobello mushrooms here, and they only carry white button mushrooms. I go to buy mozzarella cheese and literally every single package is expired. This is not the store to run in to when you forgot just one or two things when making dinner, because they most likely will not have it. If they do by chance have it, you will wait over 10 minutes to check out because they only have a couple registers open, which is not enough considering the amount of business they get at this location. Go ahead and make the trek to the Montrose or Buffalo Speedway HEB locations, because this one will just leave you aggravated. read more

This HEB is predominantly Hispanic in the goods it carries which means it stocks some delicious foods and ingredients. They also sell something many other HEB's do not: Flaming Bird. This is a whole flame roasted chicken sold in whole, half and sections. If you are looking for a satisfying lunch, a quick and delicious family meal or enough for a couple of people you can't beat the deals they have in combos and chicken alone. This Flaming Bird is excellent and if you have a chance to try it, please do! The store is laid out pretty much as all HEB's are and products are easy to locate. The store is also well kept and clean. The bread aisle is arranged with bins which makes it easier to find some items. They also carry a few breakfast bread items that I have not seen in other HEB's such as the HEB French Toast Bread (quite good!) and HEB Apple Strudel Bread. The bakery has so many yummy items which makes it hard to choose just one thing. There is a large selection of corn tortillas which are fresh and perfect for any Tex-Mex or Mexican meal. The meats and produce sections both have fresh items at good prices. The same can be said for the diary section which carries a great variety of cheeses. While we were in the checkout line I found a display that showcased Dulces La Molienda. I love sweets immensely and so I had to check out the offerings. I discovered a pumpkin candy that is sugary crisp outside, a firm jelly like texture inside with great pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin is a favorite for me just as sweets are so this was a perfect find. There are many types of candies to choose from. This particular HEB is not near us but we found what we needed during our stop here and if in the area again we would definitely go back. read more

I usually go to this HEB because it's in my neighborhood, but honestly I wish there was a better store nearby. The produce is usually rotting, and they don't carry a lot of items that I consider normal. They used to carry a lot of healthier options, but have since replaced those with more of the same unhealthy items. For example, they used to carry Amy's soups, but have scaled it back to mostly Campbell's. They almost never carry Leeks, have a terrible selection of unprocessed cheese, and they also have no wild rice options. They have about 20 different brands of white rice, though! I also went for vegetable stock, and found none. The biggest problem I have, is that the store will carry these items for a month or two and when I go back to buy it again, it's no longer available! If you try to eat healthy, avoid this store! I've left upset without needed ingredients on many occasions. When I can, I shop elsewhere. read more

However, if you're looking for a "fancier" HEB, you need to hit the one on Buffalo Speedway @ Bissonnet where parking can be a nightmare, wait for the new one in Montrose, go over to Westheimer @ Fountainview or hit the 'burbs. read more

I went here the day before I had to grill for about 250 employees. I needed 200+ fresh burger patties made and about 150 Johnsonville Brats. I met with Mark and Gary and they were both very friendly and accommodating. They had all my meats ready the next day when I arrived and I was VERY impressed by the overall selection and cleanliness of the store.
