I did a cost comparison spreadsheet one time. I took my receipts from Wal Mart and HEB, and loaded them into an excel spreadsheet to compare overall cost we'd be spending at each store. HEB won as being cheaper than Wal-Mart. I then went to Albertsons and United to make a comparison. I didn't buy anything at those places, I just went around filling out my spreadsheet; they are so expensive I can't believe people even shop at those places. So, I shop at HEB. Also, HEB has more products to choose from. read more

The front end manager named Tyler was very aggressive towards me and my friends. He shoulder checked my friend and then said excuse me. He then followed us outside like he was kicking us out . Very disappointed in HEB and that guy needs to go. read more

When I need to pick up my daily supplied or make a run for groceries HEB on 14th & Barrow is the stop I make. Fresh fruits and easy to find the things you're looking for. The isles are wide, cost grocerys seem fair too. If you have not been their in a while check them out. read more

I'm not terribly impressed with any of the supermarket choices in this town. The produce is quite often rotting on the shelves and I've been there many times where fruit flies are buzzing around the tomatoes, onions, etc.... Very often if I don't cut up my berries that day they are rotten by the next day. But, alas, I feel that this is the best choice in town as far as prices, selection, and lack of harassment of the staff trying to push my cart out to my car for me. Really, I'm a strong woman and am able to carry a gallon of milk myself, thanks. And FYI - if you had less staff wasting time pushing carts around you might be able to lower your prices. read more

I don't think we have been to an HEB before, and it was quite a fun experience. My boyfriend had wanted some dessert for the night and we decided to check out the bakery here knowing that some of the choices in other grocery stores aren't the best in this area. I was really surprised when we walked in, this place is probably just as big if not bigger than the Walmart. The bakery section has tables and tables of selection. Most everything looked like it was cooked that day and not shipped in on a truck. Not to mention the prices were awesome! I found an individual pecan pie slice in a plastic container, with the cutest little plastic fork inside so you can even take it to go and enjoy it at a park or ball game. I thought that little touch was very thoughtful. My boyfriend decided to get some type of strawberry cheese coffee cake because they had a coupon laying on top of the container that gave you an extra dollar off when you purchased it. I think it came out to just over two dollars, and my pecan pie slice was a little over a buck. If we ever have a chance to grocery shop here I will certainly be back. The aisles were full of things you would never see at Walmart or other places. read more

Too many aisles full of junky clothing and knick knacks.... it looks worse than a Wal-Mart and takes too long to walk all the way across the produce to the dairy section because all the extras besides groceries. Wine & prices are good so I'm giving an extra star. read more

K I'm going to start with the parking lot... yuck can you please get on your parking lot attendants with strays carts. Alright produce here sucks can you hire those that want to do their jobs efficiently please the produce is always rotting or not put out. I've come here and majority of the fruit has mold growing already. I do like there meal deals and in store coupons that's a plus, also meat selections are good. Seafood selections are skim and overpriced. Sushi bar is terrible here please no one eat the sushi here. My HEB in Austin actually had a great sushi bar with those making sushi right in front of you fresh so seeing this one is meh. The check stands are narrow I can only fit the shopping cart through each checkout lane, the cashiers need to be better train here on coupons and customer interaction, not sure if management has a clue at this store and I know this doesn't matter to some people but they look sloppy and it matters to me please look professional. They don't have a bagger half the time which is fine when I prefer to bag my own things but what about those who can't. I will continue to shop here for half my shopping BC this is the only HEB in town and I HATE Walmart. read more

I Really Love this HEB---I get all my medicine at the pharmacy, and the staff is always helpful. I like that there are coupons, and discounts and try to buy the store brands. BUT ..... I wish the Manager would bring back the Hot Food Café. The single pizza slice was delicious, and it was Nice to have Noon dinner,and then get on with the weekly shopping. There have been many times when I see packages of meat,seafood, vegetables, sushi, etc in other parts of the store, and I try to get it back to where ever while it,s still cold . I know how much Lost there is every day and how much is tossed away every evening, and how 'frustrating' it can get at all the food that goes to the Skip (dumpster) . I want to say Thank You to the Manager for stocking pound blocks of Scrapple in the back wall of freezers!! read more

Curbside delivery at H-E-B is great! I asked my delivery person today if I could get meat sliced to order through curbside and he said just add it to the comments on that item and they should be able to make it happen! That was one item we thought we would have to do in-store at the meat section but it sounds like they can accommodate special requests. Even better! read more

HEB has the best value of any of the local supermarkets in Abilene, on par with the Walmart super centers. It also has a variety of good deals, including weekly meal deals that offer you several free items if you purchase one or two bigger items. This means you get more for your dollar, especially if you're a bargain hunter. I was lucky enough to discover this little secret several years ago when I started shopping here instead of the madhouse that is Walmart. Unfortunately over the years most people figured it out and migrated over to HEB, which means the type of shopper you run into are the ruder, more entitled, more impatient kind that do not make for a great shopping experience. Some positives: it has a large variety of items - which, if you're endeavoring to eat healthier or more exotic menus (read: vegetarian/vegan/ethnic), means you'll find those harder to find items. The bad news is you'll probably pay for it, since these items are not too in demand in this area. In California I can find a bag of quinoa for about $3, at HEB that runs you about $5. You can also get sushi at HEB now in wider varieties than the standard California roll. Fortunately the quality of the sushi has improved as well, and it no longer tastes like "store bought" sushi. I'm especially fond of the tempura sushi, which comes in either crab or salmon (the salmon is the best.) This new service more than makes up for the Chinese Kitchen kiosk closing down. The negatives are the crowds, who don't seem to realize that the busier the store is the longer you'll have to wait for service. If you're doing any kind of holiday shopping I'd recommend two days before or the day of. The day before Thanksgiving is a special kind of shopping hell pretty much wherever you go, but the crowds at HEB border unbearable. If anything I'd love to see them open another store in Abilene to help disperse the crowds. But when it come to a shopping preference, tops of my list is HEB for value and variety. read more

I called this establishment in advance to make sure they were open, as I live pretty far from Abilene. I was told they were open til 8, so I went ahead and drove over an hour to get here, in a rush, to buy the ONE thing that I needed, and I arrived at 7:42. They had police blocking the doors so no one could get in, even though they weren't due to close for over 15 more minutes, so I wasted my time and money to drive all this way, for nothing. read more

If your looking for dry goods,BEER,PIZZA,or ICE CREAM H.E.B. is the place for you, but if your looking for any other frozen foods might as well go to United, Walmart,or Market Street cause H.E.B. only Carry's a very small selection until next October while they remodel their freezer section. read more

I'm from out of town and called this store to see if they had a certain brand that I wanted. I was on the phone for almost 6 minutes while I was transferred to several different departments, including going back to the grocery department twice. I told them I knew that I could find it at Natural Grocers, had only Heard that I could find it at HEB, but wanted to make sure first. Don't let it's looks deceive you, this store has everything. Market Street has nothing on it. If I need an odd ingredient or fresh produce this is the place to go. Staff is friendly, everything's nice. It is, unfortunately a bit crowded. I guess that's a good thing for a business, but I'd like to notice it less. k - I have to preface this four star review with a few observations. Their produce and meat are really expensive - there have been days when I see things twice the price of walmart or even united! BUT Their selection and qulaity are outstanding!! I am in culinary school and I can always find the odd little ingredient there. They have a good organic selection and I love their seafood. The selection makes up for anything negative i could say about them. The only other two places I shop are united for their fresh herbs and produce and the natural grocers which I love! HEB is full of items you can't find at other stores. The produce section has a lot to choose from. Many things you don't find at other stores. When I am looking for a specialty food item, I turn to HEB and if they don't have it then I probably don't need it. The store always seems clean and the isles are hardly blocked unless they are restocking. I usually try to look and see if there are any carts left before I leave the parking lot because many times the place where the carts go can be empty and you would need to get one from the parking lot. Some prices seem higher than other store but you are getting better quality. If HEB doesn't have it then you don't need it. read more
