Service as far as assistance when walking in is perfect. I was assigned to an older gentleman who obviously knew his stuff n had experience. There was a computer glitch I was told so my name was totally wrong, probably the previous customer. But they let me walk out with all the documents so they did not review it before giving to me. I went back to get new docs. My documents were not separated n stapled State together n Fed together. I'm sure it's all there but it's a pile of papers. My first n last time. We finally moved away from using our out of state Washington based CPA and decided to try to complete our taxes ourselves through H&R Block. We made an appointment with Mike Dupre and we learned so much about taxes. Not only did we get our taxes filed, but Mike walked us through areas where we should pay more attention to in itemizing and things to work on this year for filing taxes next year. After being completely ignored by several other H&R representatives around the island, Michael Dupre came in and helped me and my spouse file our taxes. We had a complicated situation due to being a military couple and for other complex reasons and Mike Dupre was so fast to help. He was responsive, communicative, and extremely helpful. He also made sure we got the most money back, when everyone else kept ignoring us. We can't thank him enough. This sham of an office is an absolute nightmare to deal with. I first submitted my taxes mid-march through their website. Weeks went by and nothing so I call to follow up. After several attempts, I speak to Stacy who says they are working on it. Then a week later I call again and am told "we only started today because our internal system makes it hard to find your documents online" followed by "we are too busy with our regular clients and need to refer you to someone else." This is the second consecutive year I have made a appointment with H&R block at Kahala Mall and yet they ALWAYS seem to say "we don't have you scheduled" when I show up. Talk about waste your time. Since this location cannot seem to get their appointments together.... why would you TRUST them to do your taxes? I decided to call another H&R block location and had no scheduling issues and was able to get my taxes done. I would recommend Lydia at H&R block at the Dillingham location! To add clarify: my tax advisor is awesome. Her name is Nancy, I followed her from H&R Block Kapiolani to Kahala even tho I had to go out of my way she is awesome. Thanks to my ever-changing work schedule, I've seen 2 different tax professionals at this same location the last 2yrs. In 2015 I was scheduled with Christine & this year I saw Connie. Everyone here is nice & I have the utmost confidence in their work. I'm a single twenty-someodd (hehehe) year old with one W2, no dependents or extra claims so it would take a special kind of "special" to mess up my taxes. Minus 1 star because they are getting to the point of being TOO expensive. This year it took Connie 20mins to input all my info & submit everything thru E-File & it cost me $100. The more paperwork you need, the more expensive it gets. Every year that goes by, the more expensive it gets. Some day I'll just do it myself. Word of advice: pay for the services upfront. Don't have them take it out of your taxes because they charge an additional $35 for it. read more

Brain dead, minimum hourly waged employees who are dumb as bricks. I had an hour long appointment today, to discuss an IRS letter I got, after filing online with H & R Block. Arrived early...was told my Agent was working at a different branch that day, but that someone else in the Kahala office could give me - 10 minutes. It only took me 5 minutes to determine the agent I received was brain dead, and dumb as a brick...fumbling through my return...looking lost. "Line 60B" I told her, grabbing the return from her hands and going in an instant to the exact place the IRS letter referred to. Their "expert advice?" "Call the IRS." Zero stars if I could!!! I came to them last year to do my taxes and the manager Stacy was so dramatic due to my unique circumstance of my husband not being a US citizen. So, I got my taxes done through a Hawaiian nonprofit agency last year instead. However, due to the pandemic, the nonprofit is no longer offering tax services. My last resort was going back to this AWFUL H&R Block located at Kahala Mall. The same grumpy dramatic manager was there and made a whole big deal and scene about it AGAIN, scolding me as if my situation was such a hassle for them to deal with. Really? Aren't you supposed to offer solutions and service the customers? She was neither a problem solver nor a critical thinker. Do not come here if you're searching for help!! However, the receptionist Lei was very kind, patient, helpful and apologetic. When she was asking the manager Stacy questions, Stacy kept saying " I don't know, I don't know." If you're the manager, then you should know! Stacy's customer service skills are very poor. Take some etiquette lessons especially if you're the manager - you should have some type of manners and at least some class. No one wants to seek help from a grumpy overbearing dramatic person like her. Unfortunately I do not recommend this spot bc of my recent experience I feel bad for all the other nice workers there for having to deal with that specific person. This was very diappointing. This was the first year I filed with HR Block, I was always a TurboTax guy in the past- but we needed some expert help this year. We filed in Kaneohe Hawaii in February 2013, knowing we were moving to California in March 2013. Our Kaneohe "Tax-Guy" was awesome! We went above and beyond to help us out. A few weeks later we moved to California. Unfortunately, our Hawaii state tax was returned to us for some reason. On April 22, the Kaneohe office was closed for the year, so I called the 1-800 number and got a hold of Joy Mendez, the manager of the Kahala Office. Joy asked me to scan and email her the documents so she could have a look. She replied to the email and said she would forward the documents to Dennis to help me. Two days later I asked Dennis how things were going, he replied he hadn't received the documents from Joy yet. Shame on me for assuming Joy would do what she said, so I forwarded the email to Dennis to start working the issues. April 30, After asking for my birthday 3 different times during the week, Dennis got our Hawaii State tax package wrapped up and said it was mailed on April 29th. Dennis said that starting May 1st, he had to take some mandatory time off. May 7 - I called Joy and explained we hadn't received the package yet. She said she would find out where it was and call me back. May 10 - No word from Joy, which was very professional. My wife called and talked with Joy again, yet she still could not give us any type of update on where our tax package was - Nor take any responsibility for not calling us back since May 7th. She was going to look into it and call us back. She never did. May 13- we recieved a call from the Ala Moana office, asking me all the information that we gave Joy. It seems that Joy had passed the buck yet again. Ala Moana was able to fax over our tax package that afternoon- amazing technology of the 21st century, Faxing documents instead of mailing them! We paid H&R Block over $500 to help us with our taxes, yet Joy was never able to provide us any solutions or any real answers on the status of our taxes. Finally - Now, we're just waiting on the State of Hawaii to get our our refund back. Of course, the package showed up in the mail May 15th, date stamped May 7th, a week after Dennis said it was mailed. The day Joy "looked into it" but wasn't able to provide an update. I can go on and on how this delay on our refund has affected our lives, especially when we were counting on it after moving to the mainland. But the point of this review is the lack of professionism and common sense in the leadership of H&R Block. H&R Block has been hit or miss- unfortunately, this was a complete miss. read more

Met with Gerald Souza on Tuesday April 3rd to have my taxes done. At the end, some message popped up saying he had to review it so we couldn't complete it. He said he would call me before the week ended. The week ended & I hadn't heard from him. I figured its crunch time so he must be busy so I gave him another week. By April 15th, I called the number on his card which led me to a call center where I had to schedule a call back from him on the 16th at 2pm. He called, I asked what the status was, he told me how much I owed & that they were ready to be picked up. The next day was the 17th. All in all, poor follow through. I'm giving a star to the receptionist who was polite, apologetic & said she would tell her manager... I hope she followed through. read more

We made an appointment for 11:15am, by 12:30pm, we were still waiting! They told us that somebody will get to us as soon as possible. When they asked if we would like to make another appointment, I said, "Why? What good will that do? I made an appointment and we've been waiting for over an hour!" So my husband went to the University H&R Block because I was already angry with them and didn't want to use them anymore. But he insisted so I sent him down where it wasn't any better. They made him wait, they didn't address any of our concerns or answer any of our questions. He already invested time waiting, so he let them do our taxes. Then, they made him make another appointment for the following week. We were supposed to be there at 1:00pm, of course by 1:30pm we were still waiting. A walk-in comes in and they tried to take her before I interrupted and told them that I had been waiting for 30 minutes even though we had an appointment. They got flustered but took us anyway. They were actually rude and mad at ME!!!!! Then it turns out that we didn't even need to go there or make an appointment! We just had to pick up the papers!!! It was a horrible experience and a complete waste of time. Don't go there! They didn't save us any money, they overcharge for their half-ass services and they are some of the rudest jerks around.
