Honestly, a really wonderful gym experience. I needed a day pass so I could still train during heavy wildfire smoke, and this place was clean, modern, friendly staff from Lat, and stocked with fueling and rehydration. Perhaps some of the previous ratings are from a long time ago (and maybe it's different as a member?), but I have high standards for gyms, and this place was solid. read more

Ive been coming to this gym for the last year and a bit, I attend the pwrxlab regularly where I don't use the main gym all that much. The pwrxlab is great, I love all of the coaches, and the members, you truly feel at home. The lab is a different fee but if you find interest in challenging yourself it's worth it. The main gym has received a lot of new improvements. They have one larger space for cardio, they recently got new equipment which is a plus and they have classes such as yoga which I've been patiently waiting for. The women's bathrooms for the most part are pretty clean. The only downside is the steam room doesn't always work. The gym can get pretty packed during prime time hours which makes coming to any gym annoying. read more

This is a fair and honest review. I've been a member for a year at this point, so I know this facility, its employees and several members. It is not meant to negative, vindictive or trashy - but the truth from my perspective, take it as such. If you come down to Macleod trail for a tour you'll be hopeful and impressed by your first impression. You'll meet a very greasy manager, let's call him Diablo (Spanish for the devil). He lied to me on several points about what I was to receive with my membership: specifically that I would get a complimentary towel service for the duration of my membership. A small thing. Just as I got used to that it was suddenly cancelled 2 weeks after I joined. A small piss off. My one question when I joined was m: will there be spin classes offered and more spin bikes installed. I was assured yes several times. That never happened and when I asked about it I was almost laughed at. A big piss off. But, the price of the membership was about $20 less than anywhere so, carry on right? About that same time, I was using the steam room -- which is probably the best thing at this gym if the hose isn't ripped off the faucet (which happens once a quarter). Somebody stopped me and begged that I buy sandals as ATHLETES FOOT is rampant here. It's not if it will happen to you but when. BE CAREFUL. Also, the sealed off sh*tters constantly reek like stale feces. This gets mixed with the steam coming into the steam room and will make you gag. But if you take a deep breath and hold it while you pee you might make make it out alive -- 50/50. The stalls are usually filthy with god knows what sprayed over the walls -- you're on your own there. The lockers have caked dirt and salt on the bottom of them. Eventually you'll get the heebie jeebies when your shirt or pants falls down into the crack and you pull them out with dust bunnies one can only guess have been there for years -- mmmmm nice. Ok, let's get to the good part -- the workout. Let's jump on the cardio equipment for a warm up shall we -- so many options right? 1/2 the machines are dysfunctional and broken or glitchy on some way. But hey, cheap membership, so deal with it. The weight room is good. And the trainers are nice and seem professional. The managers will listen if something is dirty or broken. Robert is attentive -- see him to get anything done (he's your go too guy). If you submit an email to mother ship about a broken peice of equipment -- it will go into the black hole of procrastination and never be heard from again. I think I asked about a hair blower to be fixed months ago -- it's still broken (no one cares). The parking is good by the way. We do need to talk about the free 90 day memberships issued to addicts recovering at the building beside the gym. They're rough and edgy as h*ll. They'll scare you at first, but will leave you alone. Once you get over that feeling that you're in jail serving time in general pop it's not so bad. Diablo failed to tell about their deal or warn me -- so thanks again Diego. My wife walked in and ran out -- not ok with that I guess. I'm sure after she divorced me I'll fit in here great. Some of the showers have amazing water pressure -- so that's nice. I quite like the members for the most part -- a good group, most want to get in and out to their lives. So basically, if your hard core and a little light on cash, and can stomach a fart in the face and athletes foot occasionally and being lied to -- this is your gym. It's worth the $40 a month. I'm only here until I finish my training session. I'm using Katie -- solid lady who's all business and shouldn't be here in all fairness. She's great. I hope this helps you in picking a gym and you go into it with eyes wide open. Godspeed PS I initially gave them 1 star, but changed it to 2, it's may 9th and they finally put the clocks on the wall forward - that person gets a gold star! PSS so we end this on the positive: they have great filtered water in the gym! So that's something read more

Been a member for 8 years. Atmosphere in the workout areas bright and spacious. The equipment is maintained adequately. The men's locker room is poorly maintained and cleaned very infrequently. The carpet hasn't been shampooed for at least 6 months. The heavy traffic areas are dirty. The shower area is the same cleaned only when someone complains. I don't think the HVAC has ever been cleaned vents are filthy. It seems to me that management tries to do the least amount of maintenance and cleaning. I'm told it's done daily! lol. The staff is very friendly however and professional. For $70 a month I expect the basics like clean facilities, properly maintained equipment. Too much to ask I guess. read more

While I was in town training for a month, the staff were very helpful and attentive. Rob was understanding regarding my needs and Kat at the front desk was not only a bright and smiling face at 5am, but also helpful and flexible. Oh my gulay. A place where everyone knows my name, where they don't slide a hi-ball down the table? Seriously, I feel so welcome here. They call me to remind me that I said I was coming in again the day before. I'm greeted with genuine smiles from buff guys and ladies when I walk in. They warmly tell me goodbye when I leave. Getting a membership was a long time coming. Long term commitments make me anxious. All those horror stories you hear about people signing up for the gym, never using their memberships and then selling their kidneys to get out of their contract. That episode of Friends where Chandler tried to quit the gym, and wound up not only ~*not*~ quitting the gym, but getting a joint bank account with Ross. But, during December, they had a promotion where you could sign up without a contract and pay monthly. Sup, gym. You are now speaking in my vernacular. The gym itself is spacious, clean, with tons of equipment available for everyone from the sissy-lala, the flexy man with 3% body fat, to the row of people phoning it in on the ellipticals. As someone who has watched way too many 20/20 specials about the horrors of community towels; the towel service situation doesn't bother me, because I'd much rather bring my own. I liked that I saw for the most part, people wiping down the machines with anti-bacterial wipes provided by WH after using them, without being asked. Yay, honor system! Looking forward to trying out the Zumba class here. Every PT I came across here asked me if I had been yet, and followed it up with, "because Franco's hips DON'T LIE." read more

World Health on Macleod Trail is terrible (to say the least). I signed up for personal training. My trainer decided to leave and then was assigned another one. In the midst of it all, I put my back out. My doctor gave me a doctors note stating that I have to discontinue. I told them and they said they had to make a decision. Finally I asked what was going on and they said that they just launched a big promotion and that everything else was taking a back seat (which included me). They finally decided that I can cancel the membership; however, would not refund me any money even though they decided to sit on this for two months which shouldn't be my issue. They are one of the worst corporations to deal with. I phoned head-office and they guy was extremely rude and curt with me and then actually hung-up on me. WOW...is all I can say to that. I have no problem with paying for what I actually used...which was $700 of personal training...they in turn charged me over $2000 and said I'm pretty much out of luck. How does a corporation get away with this crap? I can't imagine working for an organization such as this...and I'm an actual Personal Trainer myself. read more

I went here after a successful shopping trip at Chinook. I have to say that compared to a lot of other World Health locations, this one was modern, clean and a pleasure to work out at. A lot of meatheads with skinny legs (do they not know that they look like human popsicles????) and I saw some people being trained on the Kettlebell incorrectly which was worrisome, but my workout was fine. Not too crowded around 1pm on a Monday/Tuesday. read more

I really wanted to love this club, I've been a member for about five years and the location and hours are super convenient, but alas no. Since I started they've continued to sell membership after membership, to the point where you can't find parking between 5 and 7, and good luck finding a spot to actually do a workout. I also find there is one specific trainer who spends a lot of time gossiping and looking down on patrons who are not necessarily super fit. He also picked up one of the other trainers and carried her giggling through the club one day - so unprofessional. The last straw was today, when I called to cancel my membership because the boot camp that I had prepaid for was cancelled with one week's notice. I however still have to pay them for another 30 days. When I pointed out that I was intending to maintain my membership until boot camp was done I was told the two were not related, and that I should have been told three weeks ago about the boot camp cancellation. She didn't seem to believe me that I had just be informed yesterday. I would be wary of this location. I should have been more careful to begin with. When I first signed up I was told I had to make an appointment with a specific person to go through the club and membership options with me, which I did. Except when I got there for my appointment, the person I was supposed to meet with wasn't there (as in not even working that day). I should have taken that as my first sign and stayed away. ***Update - two weeks later and I've still not received my refund for the boot camp, the manager Caterina didn't return my message and is now on vacation, and their payments group has no record of the refund I'm supposed to be receiving read more

Review #1 of Yelp's 30 Day Challenge 2012 Let's start with the good: - the parking space is a good size - there's always an available slot or two even during peak hours - they have a good variety of cardio machines which I love cos I easily get bored during a cardio workout and I like mixing up. There's also a lot of machines and even during peak hours I've never had to wait for a cardio machine. - this place has a lot of trainers. I've never trained with anyone so I can't really recommend anyone. I just look at them and see them as inspirations :) - Joey - when he's at the reception area, he always greets me with a smile, always so cheerful, always offers towels and never fails to say "see ya!" on my way out - good hours (24 hours on weekdays and up til 8pm on weekends) For the not so good: - towel service - I don't get how they can run out of towels when there's not a lot of people in the gym anyway. Oh and they have the smallest and thinnest towels! Please get bath towels for adults - I hope they clean the change rooms more often. The smell late in the day in the shower rooms and steam room is not very inviting. - more drinking stations. They have several refilling stations but only one drinking station for those without water bottles I've been going to this club for about six months now and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. For the most part, it provides what it's supposed to provide as a fitness club but there's really nothing extraordinary about it for me to recommend. read more

I can begin this review by saying that I am not a member here, nor will I be. I am looking around for gyms in my area. I'm a member at another gym on this list, and they are good but not great, and I have decided to move on. I followed the link from Yelp! to their website hoping to find prices and such. They didn't have prices on their site, which is a bad sign I think, but I filled out a form so that somebody could contact me. I missed their call, but when I called back I spoke to a rather unhelpful woman named Lauren. She insisted upon scheduling a meeting for me to come in and discuss prices. Discuss prices? Who has time to sit down and discuss prices? I told her that I simply wanted to know what a membership cost. She refused stating that they are actually forbidden from giving out pricing information over the phone. There is no way I am going to give my money to a club whose prices can't stand on their own, and instead, insist on high-pressure sales tactics to fill their membership quotas. Thank you World Health, but I will join a gym that posts its prices for all the world to see. read more

I've been going for over a year now to this location. I've been to some really great gyms around Canada and this is by far my favourite. It's always clean, and the staff is very friendly. I usually go between 630-8am and its not busy at all. Trainers are always offering help and are super friendly. I've even made a friend there. Yes, there are a lot of crossfit workouts going on and a lot of people training for fitness competitions but who cares? Nice to look at and they are friendly people. The prices aren't that much higher from other gyms. Considering their equipment is always working, it's clean and the showers are clean as well. They provide blow dryers, straightening irons in the women's locker room - which is always clean. Antibacterial wipes always available, as well as child-care, plenty of room for stretching, walking lunges etc. They leave the aerobics room open if you need a more private workout. I workout 5-6x a week and can tell you it's a great investment. And for people who are complaining about the membership - just read the contract before you sign, like anything you sign in life. There is a reason that exists. read more

WORLD HEALTH ON MACLEOD TRAIL - UPDATE: THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH I have finally finished with WH forever...this is exactly what happened to me.... I signed up in Oct of 2016 at World Health on Macleod Trail in Calgary, with a personal trainer only to be told that he is leaving and I would be with another one (a terrible one at that). After only two sessions with him, I put my back out. I received a Doctor's note stating that I can no longer continue there. When I spoke to Steve (Fitness Manager), he told me that he had to go through his boss and then his boss had to go through his boss etc etc....so, in the meantime, they took another 1.5 months to finally decide that I could cancel...but in the mean-time, they continued to charge my credit card $250 on a bi-weekly basis. Steve told me that they had a big launch and other things took to the back burner because of it...which included me. When I finally sat down with Andres, the Manager, in Feb 2017, I had to explain everything again....so, that just told me that he was never even informed of the situation. He then told me that I was out of luck and that I would not get any type of refund what-so-ever. Steve then told me to think about whether I wanted to come back and use the training sessions that I was roped into paying. However, forgot to mention that I would be charged another $30.45 on my credit card (bi-weekly)..after I was told that nothing else would be charged. Then I get another charge of $483 on my card and was told that the amount will be refunded...it's been almost a month and no refund as of yet. And last...but not least...when I went in yesterday to sign the cancelation papers, they actually had the nerve to ask me for another $100 cancellation fee....seriously?????? I told them, that's not happening.....but I'm sure I will have yet another charge on my credit card without authorization. Do yourself a favour, do not go to this gym or any WH for that matter.....you're far better off sticking with something like the YMCA or The Trico Centre where you are valued as a customer and as a person. WH's only focus is money...they really don't care about you or your needs....it's all about the bottom line. OH....I was even hung-up on by head office when I called them to see what was happening. The guy was extremely rude and curt with me and then just hung up. What kind of corporation does that?????? I will be seeing a Lawyer next week. This is going to court!!!! I signed my cancellation papers last week and they still charged me another $30 yesterday on my credit card. These guys are thieves and are relentless. They have no care for any of their customers. So...I had to pay them $134 more to cancel and the last dues payment. They only refunded me $383 not the entire $483 that I was told by Steve I would get. They are thieves and money grabbers. They don't care about the consumer at all....all they care about is their bottom line. PLUS....they're equipment is so out-dated....and their trainers are absolutely terrible...they have no idea. read more

I want to start out with saying that one star is generous for this gym. I've been a world health member for a few years now and have visited and trained at a number of their gyms. First of all, Macleod definitely holds up the overall snotty and stuck up attitude that World Health has come to acquire as well as the astronomical monthly rates that they charge for a membership - which is double what most gyms charge. Working out here is a challenge due to the layout of the equipment, and the split levels. It just doesn't make any sense. That is if your lucky to get the equipment you want due to it always being ridiculously busy, mostly with people flailing around attempting to do crossfit. The last thing I need while trying to squat is dodging someone's foot while doing "kipping pull-ups" If one thing is certain after a few workouts here, it's that I would never invest in a trainer here. It's obvious that they are under trained and only there as a money grab. Upon further investigation the majority of the trainers working here are "interns" meaning they have not completed a program. And even after completion most are only certified through generic Canfit or ace programs that essentially anyone can pass. As a certified nutritionist who's partner is a personal trainer and someone who works out regularly I can say confidently that I have a fairly good grasp on proper form and exercise in general. But I cannot count the number of times I have had to shake my head at the "trainers" here as they failed to correct bad form or delivered pointless plans. I suggest not bothering to give this rude, money grabbing establishment your money or time and look elsewhere for your workout needs. It's just not worth it. read more

The WORST gym ever!!! I will NEVER, EVER, EVER go back again!!! The only reason I gave it even 1-star is b/c you can't choose zero stars. Firstly, the (weight) equipment is made for men! I could barely reach when I sat in most of them (I'm only 5'2"), which doesn't make for a very effective workout. When I was on the pec machine my arms were hyper-extended too far especially for the weight that was on it. I'm ok with using free weights as well but if I'm going to pay for a gym membership it would be nice to fully utilize it. Secondly, the group classes (at least the ones I thought I might want to try) were all at inconvenient times. Needless to say, I didn't attend any of them. The worst part for me was booking two personal training sessions. My "trainer" Rhys, first asked me what my goals were and what I most wanted to work on. I was expecting to get some different ideas for workouts. First session he just tested my ability and fitness level and he decided I was "athletic". When he was checking my form at one point he kept trying to correct me and said I was holding the bar uneven. Well no kidding...duh....I had already told him earlier I had a bad shoulder. It just so happened another trainer was watching and he asked if I had an injury on that shoulder. Funny how he knew that without even speaking with me before and my so-called trainer who I had told before, "forgot". Anyway, the next day he was still 'testing' me. Near the end of the 2nd session he had me doing this exercise jumping sideways up and over this bench-type thing which I told him was too high for me but he said no it's fine so I tried doing it. Not until I fell is when he says, "ok, maybe you need the shorter one." Umm...ya think? One exercise in particular during the 2nd session is why I will NEVER go back to World Health and advise everyone I know not to either....Rhys had me bench pressing weights that he knew were too heavy for me. (He told me this before I did it.) He said the purpose was to prove to myself that I could finish a set, not to give up even though it was difficult. He said if I couldn't get the weight up he would help me lift it, but I was to get to 10 no matter what. I did it but I really don't think he helped me at all. I kept pushing through it because I didn't want the weights to fall on me. Of course I was pushing harder (unevenly) with what used to be my better and stronger arm/shoulder. Well, a year later I'm still paying for it. When I first hurt my "good" shoulder (rotator cuff) I just thought it would get better on it's own. I didn't want to completely baby it so I still went to the gym (on my own) after that, but at the same time still going easier on it. Eight months later and it still wasn't better and started to hurt more. Needless to say, I am now going to physio for a tear in my rotator cuff. Did I mention how much the mofo hurts??!! I'm sure the hyper-extension on the too-big pec machine earlier didn't help either. I'm all for lifting heavy weights but not to the point where it affects your form thereby injuring yourself. If I did it working out by myself, then that's one thing but this was with a trainer who you trust that they know what they're doing and are supposed to help you, making sure you DON'T get injured. I honestly don't know how qualified some of the trainers are there. I guess it is partly my fault for not doing more research and asking what his qualifications were. They should have a degree in kinesiology at the very least, not a two-weekend 'trainer' course. I've been to the Bay club location before and that was better than this one but still only a mediocre experience. This place is just a money grab!! Oh, did I mention I won't be going back to any World Health locations...EVER! Btw, I rarely write reviews but this was such a bad experience that I wanted to warn other people about this place and to be cautious about it. Reading reviews before proceeding with other things has helped me make decisions about whether or not to use a service or not. Hope this helps prevent someone else from getting hurt. Buyer beware and good luck! read more

Okay, I should preface this by saying I think I was spoiled by my old gym and came in to World Health with nearly impossible expectations, so this should probably be taken with a grain of salt (seriously, if you could ask my friend I went to how many times I said "Well, at my old gym...") but I'll do my best to remain objective. Facilities: Okay, bad news first - it may just be me and the quieter, more private, spacious nature of what I'm used to, but this place felt unnaturally close, packed, and claustrophobic. It seemed like some machines were spaced so close ONE person would have a hard time getting through, and everywhere I turned there seems to be 2-3 people trying to occupy these thin walkways. I also found the locker room to be suprisingly small for such a busy place, and felt that (had I come in during peak hours) I probably would have been tripping over half naked (or worse) strangers. This made things a tad uncomfortable. I also found the second level of this place to be something of a mystery as I couldn't really see what was up there from the main floor, which probably would have been nice to save someone the trip if they didn't need any of these machines. On the bright side, the decor was rather nice, everything appeared very clean and well maintained, the equipment is very nice (I was especially pleased to see most of the cardio machines have private TV screens with headphone jacks, rather than limiting you to tuning into one of a few common use ones). They even had a few machines I've never seen before (an example being stair machines with actual little stairs in them.... or, as I remarked to my friend, like a personal sized escalator that you won't get yelled at for walking up in reverse!) I'm always pleased when a gym has a steam room and, probably the biggest thing for a shy, modest guy like myself.... PRIVATE SHOWER STALLS! I think this was the moment where World Health made up my mind to give them a (mostly) positive review. Clientelle: Okay, here's where the negativity comes out. I'm used to being in a gym a little bigger than this place with about 10-12 other people at it's busiest. Here, people were EVERYWHERE - I could rarely get on a machine without having to wait for someone else to be done, I had several near collisions with strangers... it was just far too busy for my liking. Granted, we came during what I assume was the after-work rush, but still it sort of felt like a sardine can with treadmills. What's worse, 3/4 of the people I saw had physiques you'd expect to see in cheesy black and white ads for cologne or blue jeans, which is a shot to the pride of somebody like me who's actually there because they need it. To put it in the words of one of my favorite comics "What do you need the gym for? You're done!" I really could have done with a few less people and A LOT less underwear models, but such is life in a big chain gym I guess. The Staff: Alright, again I will start with the negative: I ended up signing up for a month-by-month package that was offered on a special with the first 3 months free and no start up fee.... or at least that's what it was SUPPOSED to be. The "reception" worker who was asked to process the paperwork completely missed when the client service guy told him this (and where it was marked on the paper) and processed the payment ahead of time, which lead to a rather confusing scenario of trying to refund a credit card (which none of the four people behind the desk seemed to know how to do) and this was VERY frustrating. However, I have to give props to one guy, and make a recommendation. If you're thinking about joining up here, I can't suggest ENOUGH that you ask for Tom. He's one of the client service personell that handle new and perspective members, and he couldn't have been more of a delight. Even though I was very apprehensive about signing up for anything (and almost insulting with my reasoning for it) he had a big smile on his face and was incredibly friendly the whole time. Unlike many sales people at the big chains he didn't try to push anything on me - he even went as far as to agree that most of the time personal training is unneccessary and supplements are over-rated. Furthermore, following the credit card debacle and, upon hearing my friends place was a fair distance from the gym, he not only offered us a ride back - but initially offered to stop by the bank and pull cash out of his own personal account to refund the credit card charges until the situation could be resolved. Tom was absolutely awesome, and made "above and beyond" look like nothing. I can't recommend enough that you talk to him, where at the very least you'll get some great service and straight-forward, honest explination. All things considered, I'd call this a MOSTLY positive experience, but I think I'll be aiming to come back at a less busy time next time around. read more

A good location and great hours (open 24 hours during the week and till 8pm on weekends). A good alternative to the downtown location if you're living inner city. The change rooms just got renovated so everything nice and new. The workout area is big and open with lots of space to do your own thing. Lots of cardio equipment as well so you don't have to wait. Just remember to bring your own towels since this isn't a premium club and therefore they don't provide those extra amenities. read more

I found a lot of the negative comments hilarious. "Too many meatheads. Expensive. I don't know how to work the equipment. Arrogant staff." In my opinion, this gym isn't for divas. So if you're looking for a gym where you get coddled by your grandma the whole time, maybe this isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a clean place with plenty of space and a great variety of equipment, this one is for you. If you like 24 hour service, an excellent steam room and free classes, come on in. I love this gym! It is in a great location and it is open 24 hours. I go there in the mornings before work and I am able to do everything I need to maintain my health. I am not the most buff guy in the world but I never felt self-conscious once. Conclusion: The gym is great and people whine way too much. read more

I have been at this gym for over a year and the equipment is all fairly new and available (I try and stay away from the 5-7 time frame though which I have heard can be crowded. I do find the Patrons here can be hit or miss (general steroid freaks around as expected) however there are also quite a number of normal people just looking to get a good workout in and get a little healthier. The main reason for this rating being a 4 instead of a 3 is some of the classes you can take, specifically the spin class on Thursday with Joey (on it's own this is a 5!). This class is fantastic and a great workout. Joey does a great job motivating you and is EXTREEMLY positive and supporting throughout the class. Having never really done classes at the gym and never done a spin class I was a little overwhelmed with the experience and Joey was amazing, friendly, and encouraging. When in the class he gave me one of best workouts I have had in a long time and I will definitely be going back as long as I am here! Regarding the signup and quitting process that seem to be the focus of some reviews I would agree that the sale's tactics used by the gym are high pressure across the board however as long as you prepare yourself ahead of time and educate yourself you simply get what you expect. Personally if someone I knew wanted to try out the gym I would tell them what I thought and what to expect before they even entered so that they already knew if they wanted to sign up before walking in. Trainers are hit or miss and overall not as focused as I would like. Since they are contractors they are motivated to get you to train more, and to train more people. This results in a focus of them walking you through every session rather then focusing on developing a plan for you to work on between sessions so you can ultimately educate yourself and workout on your own schedule. If you are looking for someone to encourage you and workout with you then they are good however for the most part they are fairly under educated. There are a few that are exceptions to this so just be ready for what you are paying for. Overall this gym is centrally located without the price of a 'downtown' gym. It is very spacious with loads of equipment, and the staff are very friendly and nice. read more

A decent amount of equipment. Very busy at peak hours but still able to have a solid workout. Would like to know where all the hardcore gyms have gone? read more

If were talking about pricing like what some of the reviews here have mentioned yeah its freaking expensive, but comparing it to other gym being more expensive? Its the same as GOODLIFE , ANYTIME FITNESS, And Golds Price membership. Comparing it from where I came from in BC its way more expensive than the community recreational centres there, at 30$/month , or 12/year if your on low income. 27$/month at Steve Nashes fitness world for one location or 56 for all locations. 14/month at trevor lindens. AHHAHA but look your in Calgary. Either you go worldhealth , goodlife, ymca, golds, or goodlifes FIT4less which is the cheapest here in CALGARY btw for 10$/month or 20/month read more

I always looks forward to coming to this gym, especially since the staff is so genuine!! Emily J was one of the first staff members I recall having the best experience with during my fitness consultation. She the best! Strongly recommend coming to this gym if you want an overall great experience. read more

Nice clean gym with maintained and updated equipment. Very friendly staff. Watch the trainers and a couple actually know what they're doing. Hours are good, longer on weekend would be nice. Good location(s), wish there were more to qualify a full membership. I do miss internet access, TV monitors on all cardio machines and massage chairs would be nice. read more

Never Ever Ever go to this gym !!!! Not only is it the worst facility for trainers, but they are going to rip you off. They charged me for training sessions that my trainer didn't bother to come to and cancelled. When I wanted to cancel my membership they said that I had to pay for two months and would loss all my training sessions if I left. I complained to the Head office and it was settled and then they sent an outstanding amount to a credit bureau ANYWAY! Oh ya, and my outstanding amount was $200 after over $3000 in training sessions. When I called they just told me that the person that I had settled with did not work there anymore so they wouldn't honor it. They have stolen from me , and I have them on my credit report. Just a compete scam every chance they get !!!! Once they sell you a membership and training that is the end of any kind of responsibility. I am sure that they also will not read or care about these reviews as they are not concerned with their customers or business. read more

At first glance seems like a good place to work out with staff smiling and seemed helpful. Buuuuuut then once you sign with them there phony smiles and attitudes really come to form . They had me @ sign add friends who I may of wanted to bring with me abd told me to make a guest list . They told me they would only call them one time to confirm them on the pass and they would not try to sell them anything . Turns out they not only call them every single day but when they get voicemail these degenerates start endlessly texting them . The group @ world health club are degenerates and I wouldn't recommend using this location at all it's a disgrace . Not to mention a lot of there machines are out dated . I can't even get one work out in with out one of there slimy attendants coming over standing over my shoulder like a bug trying to engage in small talk this place is laaaaaaaaame . Fake smiles and attitudes fake people horrible gym read more

Not much to like about this gym. Staff members have repeatedly interrupted my workouts, either to try to sell me on services offered at this gym, or just to talk. I seriously wish they'd just shut up and let me exercise. And the music (mostly top 40 crap or hip hop) is often so loud that it drowns out whatever I'm listening to on my headphones. Overall, I often leave feeling like I've been so interrupted by staff and/or the music that I haven't actually accomplished anything. I dislike this gym so much I cancelled my membership. read more

I've been training at the Macleod Trail location for about three years now. I was extremely over weight and needed a change, and I went to the right place. They make you feel so welcome, I will admit I was slightly uncomfortable at the beginning but once I got to know the staff and did a few workouts I felt like I was right at home. Based on the reviews that I've read, I STRONGLY suggest you talk to a trainer. You're working out to meet goals, be it lose body fat, gain muscle, you're in there for a reason and thats exactly what the trainers are there to help you achieve. If you don't like being pushed than you do not have to work out at that location. HOWEVER you will not find a friendlier team than at Macleod Trail. read more

Haven't been a member at this gym for a few years now, but always wanted to write a review. Not the best experience at this location. Perhaps things have changed since I left. Facility itself wasn't bad. I personally found that there were enough available cardio machines when I went in. I did like the large open floor space, though I have read that it seems to have been taken over by cross-fitters now. My biggest beef was with the trainers and overall vibe of the place though. The male trainers always seemed to hang out in a big group and pretty much "leer" at you, giggling and having way too much fun on the job. They would rarely make the rounds of the gym to offer assistance or make themselves available. A number of them would regularly have competitions on machines and other apparatus while they were on shift, which was really disruptive and unprofessional. I had two different male trainers while I had a membership. First guy I worked with had to leave Calgary due to family health issues, but he was amazing and had actually had more than basic schooling in personal training. The next trainer I got paired up with was a jerk, but I will admit, he kicked my butt and I made great progress. I put up with his lack of social skills because he actually did know his stuff, but there were a few times when he cancelled on me with basically no notice, or screwed up with tracking how many sessions I'd completed. His attitude overall is what turned me off the most though, and the entire session would sometimes feel like he was counting the minutes until it was over. I would have considered hiring a female trainer, but IMO, a trainer should lead by example, and NONE of the girls looked like they worked out very much at all. Most of them were quite young and looked very average, as far as fitness goes. Watching some of the sessions they held with clients, I was not inspired in the least by their wimpy approach. I agree with other reviewers as well that this location has an overall very snobby vibe. The weight area was consistently full of posers and meatheads, either busy looking at themselves in the mirrors, setting up music on their phones while occupying equipment, or hoarding as many free weights/equipment as possible while they took their sweet time doing their routines. When I went in to give notice of my membership cancellation, I did still have 2 personal training sessions left that I had paid for. The trainer blew me off completely and insisted that we had completed all the sessions, and even though the front desk had record of me still having 2 sessions left, my trainer refused to book me into his schedule. I was so choked by this arrogance that I forfeited those last 2 sessions and never looked back. I will NEVER join a World Health again. read more
