When I joined GymIt I was super excited about the boxing classes. As I'm a member of BSC I only joined GymIt because of the Everybody Fight boxing classes. The first 6 weeks was amazing. We had George Foreman teaching on Thursdays morning, Eliza teaching on Mondays morning and the schedule seemed to be pretty good. However, right before the flooding they changed the schedule eliminating EBG Bags and Beats, which was SUPER fun and both the instructors mentioned above no longer work there. I feel bad with what happened, but there should've been a better communication for letting customers know of what happened. I never received an email, instead I had to go to facebook for updates. What about those people that don't use facebook? Seemed a bit annoying having to go the facebook just to look for updates. After announcing they would be able to open boxing classes only Friday after the opening, I planned to go to the 6am as I always do. Called Thursday around 5pm and was told that classes were going to be run as usual. Woke up 4:30am for my 6am class, and when I showed up there they said it was actually not ready. Seriously? What's wrong with the lack of communication of GymIt? I rarely use facebook and don't want to be checking every day for an update. I signed up for that class and should've, at least, received an email stating there wasn't going to be a class. Seriously, how difficult is it to check who signed up for the class, shoot them an email saying there's not going to be a class? I've never used the equipments, shower, or other areas of the gym. I only go for boxing and I really enjoy my time there. Nice instructors. I simply LOVE Todd Paris's class. He's skilled and an amazing instructor. Omar is really good, although his classes could be more fun. It's too serious sometimes, and can be somewhat boring compared to Todd, Eliza, George and Andy. Andy is fun and knows what he's doing. 3 stars because they should bring back bags and beats and improve their way of communication. read more

I love almost everything about this gym. The exception -- and the reason for knocking off one star -- is the lack of free standing barbells. Oh for a simple barbell in a simple squat rack! That said, the place is clean, bright, and spacious. From the minute I walk in, the staff are very friendly. I haven't had many occasions to ask for help from staff, but when I have, the response has been great. I seldom use cardio equipment, but I've never had to wait, nor do I see others doing so. It's even rarer that I use weight machines, but as with the cardio stuff, I don't see people lined up for them. Sometimes I do have to wait for the smith machines, but that's not too frequent, thankfully. There are plenty of dumbbells, sufficient kettlebells, a good number of cable apparatuses, and a few TRX setups. In other words, fun stuff from which you can build yourself an awesome workout. There's a large open area that seems to be earmarked for classes. Fortunately, I've only once seen a class happening there, so usually that's good usable space. The flip side is that if you're all about classes, this might not be the gym for you. Personally, I *love* that they don't take up space with classes. I've been a member at Healthworks, BSC, and Planet Fitness. This is my favorite, even though it's not a convenient location for me. Until I can find someplace close enough to me that has regular barbells and squat racks, for a somewhat reasonable price, I'll keep going to GymIt. read more

This review is for Bill, the front desk worker on the morning shift. When I came in to test out the club Bill was more than accommodating. He was friendly, not overbearing, and very professional. A few weeks later I decided to join and he helped me through the process with ease. Unfortunately, just days after joining, my circumstances changed and I could not continue my membership any longer. Again, I spoke with Bill and he helped me through the cancellation process and even worked out a small glitch in my reimbursement. Gymit watertown is wonderful. Its extremely clean and fresh. I love the locker rooms as well, they are spacious and fun. Its the perfect place for a workout, definitely a great value for the monthly price. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are definitely enough machines that you won't ever have to wait for one, and so many TV's the workouts continue to be entertaining. All in all I highly recommend this gym and think that if you are in the market for a gym you should check Gymit out...you will probably fall in love with it, like I have! read more

A good place to work out for the price and a good number of machines... However parking is a huge issue and don't even try to work out around the prime time (5-7) way too crowded and you will most likely be sweating before you even start your work out. For the price, you can't really get anything better. Plenty of cardio equipment. Staff is super friendly. And the place is ridiculously clean. Almost like hospital clean. All huge pluses. GymIt is fantastic. The Watertown location recently was renovated, and the results are incredible. There's something for everyone here. I've had Dan as a personal trainer for three months, and he has provided a comprehensive workout plan for me from day one. Bill and the staff are all so friendly and willing to work with you to meet your fitness goals. As a former member of the Gymit Commonwealth Ave location, I had to stop by and check out the newest addition to the Gymit family. Having stopped by a couple of weeks ago I can honestly say that I was blown away by the transformation of the new club. I was greeted by the friendly staff at the front desk and was allowed to tour the new space. The Gymit team has created an amazing environment for anyone of all shapes and sizes to feel comfortable and unthreatened when working out. The large open space is filled with top of the line equipment and probably the best audio and video system anywhere in Massachusetts. For $20 a month this place is such a great deal. I feel like I get ripped off on a monthly basis from my current gym after seeing this place. I wish it was a bit closer so I could walk there, but there is plenty of parking around back. read more

gymit is an awesome gym for the price! i've been spoiled by their "sister" gym for so many years and it was hard to give it up at first....but i'm impressed w/the watertown location. granted i've only gone twice at prime time, but i didn't have any issue w/getting a machine that i wanted and the locker room was clean and not crowded (comm ave was packed and i had to settle for a machine i didn't want). the parking lot was a little bit of a challenge, but i managed to get a spot. so far, all front desk staff has been extremely friendly (don't get that all the time at the sister gym). Gordon was extremely friendly and explained that everyone there was like family to him. i think that's a great attitude to have! read more

Have to echo some of the comments in other posts: - I go at rush hour (530pm). I have no problem with parking. I just park on Arlington St about 100 yds from the gym, near the UPS Customer Center. Never an issue. Non-rush hour, parking lot. - I don't interact with front desk staff other than to check in. But when I have they have been very helpful and nice. Many often say goodnight to me on the way out. - the training staff is awesome. I have been to gyms where the trainers are impersonal and don't really seem to give a crap. Opposite here. Well, at least the people I have worked with - Kevin, Steve and newcomer Nick. They are nice. We laugh about stuff while there and they are very attentive to detail. - I take the Semi Private training. They cordon off a section of the gym and up to 4 people can schedule time where one of these folks supervise a workout that is designed specifically for you. They put the workout in a google sheet, which you can access in realtime off your phone. I am over 50 and needed to kick my butt back into shape. I go once a week but repeat the routine when not there. 6 weeks later, I am down 10 lbs overall and have gained a tone of muscle. Because these guys are nice and attentive, I look forward to going back each time. You can get a 360 degree body scan and then check out your progress on body fat, posture, all sorts of stuff. - The place is very clean, there aren't a bunch of meatheads and the equipment is in good shape. - Pay the extra $5 for VIP. The hydromassage chairs are an awesome way to end a workout. read more

I originally started working out here before moving and going to the Commonwealth location. I did like this gym because of the kettle bells they have there, something that is lacked at Commonwealth. It's one large room so it feels rather spacious and roomy. I don't feel really crowded except when I'm on the benches near the free weights. It's very clean, and the staff is friendly. Once again, for the price GymIt is hard to beat! read more

This place is always crowded whenever I am available to workout. You have to wait in line for the leg machines, free weights and benches. To top it off they slap you with a yearly fee a month after you leave. Terrible. Sad. read more

Great price and value. Watertown gym is much more comfy for the non-college crowd. The layout and nice and it will be interesting to see how it expands. My only knock on this gym is that it could use more airflow (particularly over/by the aerobic machines). read more

Pros: PRICE: (in boston , you cant find gyms at this price) MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS: Basic, $20 or Value, $27 (Im doing the value membership with my sister that means we only pay $27 for the both us. The bill can only go in one persons name, so if you are going to do this do it with someone you trust; ITS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!) STAFF: JoJo (girl) and Jamie (guy) are so friendly and helpful! CLEAN: I'm impressed with how clean this gym is and locker rooms Parking: A ton of free parking for the Arlington Gymit , not sure about Commonwealth Members: come in all shapes and sizes Cons: No classes, but dont think it is that much of a con. Nowadays if you want to do a Zumba class you can do it from your home using Youtube, Dvds, etc This gym is great for people who want to get in a good workout and dont want to worry about paying an arm and a leg for it. This is one of the nicest gyms I've been a member of. They have more than plenty of equipment, clean locker room, and you can't complain about the price. Gets a bit crowed around 5-8pm but I never had to wait to use an equipment. Highly recommend this gym. read more

I should begin this review by saying that i recently was thinking about switching to a gym that offered classes included in the membership, so I visited different gyms around the area. I decided it was NOT worth it. I really love gymit. It is easy to get in and work out. There is a ton of cardio equipment so even at the busiest times you never have to wait. The best part is that the equipment is all new and up to date which a lot of other gyms around the area are lacking. The locker rooms are big and clean, as well as the bathrooms. The price is just unbeatable and there is free parking. I had to give this gym 4 stars JUST because I really wish they would put some free weights in a separate area so I did not have to fight through the crowd of guys to get to the 10 pound weights and mirror space (no offense guys). It would be nice to have some smaller weights in a separate area. I think the ladies would definitely appreciate it. read more

I have been a member at Watertown GymIt since day 1. Never had any issues with management. Just recently, I was approached by the General manager of the gym Billy Hymon, while in the middle of my workout, to tell me he didn't like that I was expressing my opinions about the problems with the gym. He made a big scene in front of other members and embarrassed me. Pretty much he had his mind made up before he even approached me on how he feels about me expressing my opinion. I am highly disappointed in the level of unprofessionalism he exhibited by using profanity. After all this he revoked my membership. As a paying customer I should not be treated like this! Finally, there are few employees I would like to praise. Assistant Manager Danielle Marini always shows excellent skills in customer service. Bill Ferguson for always having a smile on his face at 5am and Jeremy Stark an asset to any company he works for. 10/28/15 Hi Matt, Only reason I showed lack of respect is because I experienced it first by your team. I have been coming to this gym for a little over 3 months now and have no complaints. It is a huge wide open gym with a ton of cardio equipment. Also, they recently added free weights and are in the process of adding a boxing ring, which will be nice. Even if you come at its busiest times, I have always been able to find a treadmill or other cardio machine I want to use. I definitely recommend this gym. read more

i am an 85 years old lady (oldest in gymit) and with lot of experience in many gyms... not only in ma. ny. and miami but in europe too ....gymit is the best gym i have been ....is great in space,,,equipment,....cleanliness....the staff is incredible, very helpful and friendly...the cleaners are the best...they spend more than 2 hrs. cleaning floors...equipment...locker rooms....showers..etc....this is the cleanest gym i have been in...they get in around midnite to clean the mess of the whole day..members than get there early in the a.m. gets the cleanest place they ever have been in....probably at 7 or 8pm , after 100's of people working out the whole day it won't be that clean....(that's common sense) the only way a 24 hr. gym can be clean the 24 hrs. is having cleaners twice in the full day...i was in waverly oaks for 12 years (they are not open 24hrs) and they have the cleaners from 10am til closing..(10pm) .i hate to see these 2 girls (cleaners) go, because some bad reviews about the gym being dirty...probably is the time that these complainers go.....i am extremely happy with gymit and my after nite hrs...!!!! but i have 1 very important negative thing pertaining the security of the place,,,!!!!!! the front door should be locked after midnite..it is a must......!!!!! lots of crazy people out there....even the watertown police agree with that.....hope that we have that security asap.... thanks sylvia (ur oldest member) read more

I enjoy going to this gym, pretty clean place, bathroom has been pretty clean. equipment fairly new. Staff is outstanding. from desk girl, Heather, is always smiling and in good mood. The gym is properly equipped w a desfibrilador in case of heart attack, I checked. The gym gives updates for snowstorms and upcoming or ongoing events, huge plus. Not being tied to an anual commitment is another plus. Free wi fi is huge too. Overall very happy. read more

Where do I start with this abhorrent gym? Do i start with the 10-15 minutes you'll wait in the parking lot, idle in your car, waiting for a spot to appear?! To be fair, this was a different story a year ago when i became a member. Since then they have transformed a quarter of the space into an awful "mma ring" (awesome cant wait for the winning crowd that will bring in!) and the other, once free space, is now the stomping grounds for their new "personal trainers", who are overly eager to ask you to move, where? to a new gym apparently. This gym used to be a 4-star $20 gym but with the recent changes they have effectively made it impossible for anyone moderately to seriously interested in their own personal fitness To find anything of value - take my advice, find something else for 20 bucks or spring for a little more - someplace thats gets out of your way and lets you work out." read more

Bare bones--bring your own towel, there aren't even paper towels in the bathrooms, and only waterfountains, they need a water bottle refill machine. But a really good gym. Good price, friendly and helpful staff, good equipment and clean, well maintained facility. Easy to get in and out. Parking has been ample during the day, though I know it gets crowded after work. I appreciate that the staff always greets you and says goodbye...you feel like they're there to help and make sure you have a good workout. This is in sharp contrast to BSC Watertown, where prices kept going up, the staff was consistently rude, and facilities often not clean. read more

I'm not a meathead by any means.. I don't grunt, stare at people, or judge others.. I go to the gym, work hard, and split. The fact that this gym does not have a BARBELL in the whole place is ridiculous. And no squat rack? It's one of the most if not THE most functional movements you can do. And no, a smith machine is not the same thing..at all. I can understand not having a bench press, but give me a break. To call this place a gym is a joke. This is a wannabee planet fitness, nothing more. If you just need to hop on the hamster wheel and call it a day, this gym is perfect for you. If you actually want to work out (and ironically get stared at and judged) by doing challenging and intense exercises that actually make you sweat, move on read more

As others have noted, the main drawback is inadequate equipment. They have miles of cardio machines but not one squat rack and no barbells for deadlifts or bench pressing. I actually prefer dumbbells for most of my work but it would be nice to have the option. It's painful and borders on management negligence to see members attempt deadlfts and squats on Smith machines: any knowledgeable trainer or physical therapist will tell you this is a mechanically awkward and potentially injurious situation. I assume the management has some business model idea that barbells give off a "meathead" bodybuilding vibe and so steer clear of having them. If this is the case, I disagree with this image over substance decision. read more

I've been a member of GymIt for only a few weeks and already the experience has been 100x better than being a member of BSC for 5+ years. The staff have been friendly AND helpful, the members have been nice, and the layout/equipment is in much better condition (and cleaner than BSC). And, the boxing classes are an added bonus (although an added cost unfortunately). Overall, I wish I had joined this gym sooner. I only go a few times a week but am already very comfortable here. read more

I've attended this gym since the fall of 2013, and overall it's been a very positive experience. I checked out 3 other gyms in the area, before I chose Gymit. For the $20 a month fee, it's a bargain! No, it doesn't have a pool, spa, or smoothie bar, but that's not why I go to the gym. I want a CLEAN welcoming environment where I can exercise without having to wait in lines to use the equipment or deal with meatheads hogging all the weights. For the most part, I never have these issues, and the vast majority of the other patrons are polite and respectful of others. One thing I do find a bit ironic is that there are signs posted everywhere asking people to refrain from excessive grunting and loudly dropping weights. The worst offender, however, is this guy who grunts and roars with his tongue out, always dropping his dumbbells with a loud reverberating crash after each set, yet he also works the front desk! It doesn't really bother me, I find it funny; just know that the employees don't really enforces those rules. Still, they do a great job keeping the place clean, the paper towel dispensers full, and the equipment put back where it should be. My one wish is that they would be a bit quicker replacing worn and cracked seats/pads on the equipment. They eventually get around to it, but some of the equipment becomes very uncomfortable to use due to worn out pressure points. Overall though, a very solid gym for the price! read more

Great gym: Clean space, friendly staff, a lot of equipment, and affordable (even the "higher tier" membership, which comes with a lot of free classes and access to both locations). I go for both cardio and strength training. Wait times are short if at all. Personal training is also offered. I've worked with Andy, who is excellent at providing a good mix of motivation and challenge. There's a solid mix of beginner and advanced members, so you never really feel out of place. Everyone is really just there to work out. read more

Hey Yelpers, I recently joined GymIt in Watertown!! I was looking for a new affordable gym that included: an array of cardio equipment/classes. I like that it's close to public transportation, spacious, clean equipment and locker room!! I've only been a few times unforuately!! Yes, I blame it on the weather and the fact that I'm tired!! I'm trying to get back on track though! The VIP membership which I have includes four classes-row, core, bootcamp and tredIT. I've only participated in bootcamp/core. I've took part in these classes at other gyms and really enjoyed the workout/outcome. This gym uses the fake green grass to do the two classes which I found interesting. During the time when other gym members too are utilizing the space. I'm not a big fan of this due to the fact there is no space set aside for these classes, distraction from the other members doing their workout and the noise of the boxing group with music bumping (separate/enclosed room). The group was small and the instructor did one on one with me, but a few of the other young women in the group reminded a lot of HS and the mean girls!! read more

I feel confident GymIt really wants to create a great workout environment for all members and their goal is for every member to be able to get in and get a great workout! I always find parking no matter what time I go and the desk staff are always friendly. The women's locker room is clean but the rest of the gym is dirty. The machines and the floor are never cleaned. there is a penny on the floor by one of the machines for over a week now, a good indicator that the floors are never cleaned. I have seen cleaning people walking around wiping machines with paper and using a spray bottle. there is a sign up asking people to clean the machine after use if they want to avoid a locker-room smell. It is time that the Gymit folks got in a cleaning service to give the machines and the floor a good cleaning before the health department comes in. read more

My wife goes to Gym It and I've been several times on a guest pass. The best part about this gym is it's $20 a month with no contract. Why in the world would anyone want to sign a long term contract for something that most people do for a few months and then quit? There are other gyms that offer $10/month but with a contract and sign up fee. Gym it is a much better deal in my mind. Parking at The Watertown location can be a real pain at peak times. I've been very impressed with the cleanliness of this gym in general. There's nothing worse than a dirty gym in my opinion. The staff always seems friendly. One other thing is that they do not offer classes. I think this is more for the ladies that like to take the spin classes, pilates, etc. Doesn't make much of a difference to me really. Overall a great gym at a great value and being so close to the Arsenal mall makes it very convenient. If you're looking for a gym, consider Gym it! read more

So happy to welcome this incredible gym to Watertown! It has a lot to offer beyond the super low monthly fee. Gymit has an infinite number of cardio machines (and TVs to keep you entertained!!), weights, the latest in exercise equipment plus they offer personal training and onsite physical therapy.
