Do Not Hire This Company! Due to the fires in Los Angeles, including a Red Flag High Alert Warning in Effect through today, Gutters by Ruby is blatantly violating the current ban on air and leaf blowers mandated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Health. I called the owner, he blew me off, thought I was talking about a law passed in 1994 that banned leaf blowers, and laughed and said, "no one enforces that." I wrote to my HOA president, no response. The management should have discussed alternative methods for cleaning the gutters during this ban and alert. Completely irresponsibilty on both parties. We had confirmed him to come to our house to do an estimate for our job. He did come over, but he never gave an estimate. He actually did the job without our knowledge, then has the audacity to present my wife with a $1,500 bill. She had never ok'd any work, because all we expected was him to give us an estimate. My wife paid him, because what could she do with him standing there holding a bill he wrote up. I have no idea if he did a good job or not, but that is not the point. The men driving this truck are two older white males who caused me problems for no reason. I'm pulled over to the side of the street delivering groceries to a customer parked in front of their house and behind a trash dump bin. Every car passed me with ease and did not get angry and honk at me. They kept honking at me and the passenger started talked crap. So once I drove off I honked at them back. The driver hops out the car and walks to my window (after he literally just did the same to me) & asked ME what my problem was. I told him you were honking at me while I was just trying to do my job. Then the passenger hops out and starts talking crap again. I told the passenger I was going to report them and he said "go ahead" . So this is what I'm doing. Mine was a small job: Clean up the downspouts on the front of the house for a modern look, but Mark still took the time to talk to me about options while on site and again after he left, when I had questions. We ended up putting a larger, modern, square downspout in the place of one, and removing another. They were able to schedule the work soon after I decided, too, which I appreciated. We put up rain gutters on the garages - luckily my neighbors agreed to let the rain be redirected into their yards. Also another drain had been positioned to go straight under my house! Mark came out and measured my parent's house for metal gutters and showed me the different colors available (most were the same price, just the copper ones were more expensive), and he told me how he would take the old ones down, and slightly change the layout for the new ones, etc., and that he wasn't the least expensive company out there, etc. Well, after getting two more quotes, he was the lowest price, and he seemed like the most knowledgeable of the three. I had them take down the existing 50 year old gutters and come back later (about two months for repairs to the facial boards and rain delays) and then install the new ones. I'm taking one star off for the clean up after taking down the old gutters and leaving some behind. And also for not doing a section over the back porch...they had to come back and finish it. Mark Ruby and his team did an outstanding job cleaning and repairing our gutter system today. Scheduling was straight forward and Mark remained in contact re his schedule on the appointed day. On arrival, the system was evaluated and all questions answered directly. Mark and his assistant proceeded to work and work they did. The gutters were inspected and cleaned thoroughly. The yard was swept and hosed down when work was completed. Mark had to repair all brackets on the garage gutter thereby straightening them so water flowed.
