I was very happy with my visit to Gutter Pop Comics. First thing I noticed was the large selection of comics and graphic novels available. The graphic novel wall was stacked and broken down by genre, which was very helpful while browsing. The man working was super helpful. He wasn't sure they had a comic series I was looking for in stock. He looked it up on the computer and went down to the basement to get me the issue I was looking for. I also enjoyed the zine wall as this allowed me to browse local comic artist creations that you would not usually find. I wish I lived closer to this shop. Excellent comic shop! In addition to comics, they have a great variety of graphic novels, and a section with cute jewelry (I love fun earrings), stickers, figurines, funko-pops, and more. The guy at the counter was friendly and I felt welcome. The store is well-lit and open, not cramped, and has a positive energy to it. I visited as part of Independent Bookstore week and will definitely be back. Parking is available on the street. read more

What a great store with helpful staff. Everything is laid well and organized. It was very easy to fund great stuff for kids - children's books, graphic novels, comics, on a variety of topics featuring all sorts of characters and authors from around the world. They were very sweet to us and even let us know when 6 year old nibling slipped out the front door while the rest of us were looking at books. My other nibling was drawing comics and needed am eraser, which they generously provides. An all around great place. read more

We received a coupon at the Miyazaki Chalk Festival event at North Park Theater because it was held in conjunction with Gutter Pop Comics this year. The layout and design of the store almost reminded me more of a record shop. Very comprehensive well-organized selection of comics, as well as an assortment of graphic novels, movies, and some related merchandise along the sides and at the front counter. My son had no problems finding not only the Star Wars comics, but the specific Bounty Hunter series he was interested in. They had a buy two get one free deal, and he was able to use it along with the 20% coupon. Great value. Most of the shops we've been to seem to focus more on omnibus editions and cycle through a smaller selection of individual comics so this might be your best bet in that department. read more

Gutter Pop is such a treasure to the Buffalo, New York area. They have an amazing selection of comic books and graphic novels. I ordered two graphic novels last week. Where do I start with Gutter Pop? I came across this gem just via some online snooping, looking for book, zine and comic shops to drop in on while on a weekend getaway in Buffalo. During my visit, it just so happened to be Gutter Pop's soft opening in their new, light-filled space, just some doors down from their original location. Though their shelves were not yet fully stocked and there were boxes stacked at the back of the store, there was a sense of warmth and welcome in the shop. To the right of the entrance, there were displays of lots of underground titles, alongside mainstream hits. Browsing their shelves, even though their stock was not on full display, I saw a wide selection of topics and artists represented. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. They were on board when I asked to skim some of the underground titles I was eyeing, encouraging the opening of packaged titles to help me decide on something to take home. Overall, Gutter Pop is a comprehensive store and a lovely environment to take in, more than worth the trek when you're in Buffalo. read more

Really like the vibe of this place. I came on free comic book day, and despite the madness, everyone working was super friendly and approachable. They have a really diverse selection including a good number of indie titles. You can tell that the owner puts a lot of thought and care into what they have in stock and would be able to easily recommend something if you dont know where to start. The Elmwood location is fabulous especially since I frequent Ashkers and Cole's on a regular basis. I expect to be stopping in frequently. read more

Shoutout to my friend from Connecticut for making me go to the comic book stores right next to my house, because I messed up taking so long to check out Gutter Pop Comics. We stopped in on Sunday morning for a quick browse and managed to find a true gem. This store is full of thousands of comics, enamel pins, patches, DVDs, Blu-Rays, Posters, and even a pretty good selection of records in the back. The highlight of my trip came from coming across a "Dead Wrestlers" which may sound grim, but it was full of stuff I found super interesting. Overall, Gutter Pop Comics is a fantastic store and I'm stoked that its right down the street from me. This is a must visit for any comic collector! read more

Buffalo's Comic Book Mecca! Gutter Pop has an amazing selection of today's popular comic books, graphic novels, manga - if you geek out about it, they probably sell it! I recognized quite a few comics that have been pretty popular around the internet but that I hadn't really been able to find at any bookstore or shop that would sell them. There's quite a few weird, interesting books here, like a few classics turned into graphic novels, even a book of comics from the olden days of Nickelodeon magazine! Quite a few art books here, too. The staff seemed incredibly knowledgeable; I overheard the woman at the register explaining the differences between certain comic issues to a young customer (the convo was perhaps a little more geeky than what I'm familiar with), and it was very reassuring to have somebody who knows their stuff at the helm of the business. There were a few comics here which I found that I'll more than likely be returning to purchase. Great place to find some great reads! read more

I really like how welcoming this comic store looks, feels and actually is. The first time I came here was for Free Comic book day and even though the place was packed the staff was nothing but friendly. I love that they carry a ton of indie titles. It's obvious the owner is going for a more alternative comic book store. You can find your Marvel and DC, but there is also so much more than that. In all my visits every staff member I have encounter has been friendly and helpful, they have helped me find titles, hold titles and recommended titles based on what I am currently reading. Buffalo has a few comic books store, I will continue to visit a few of them, but Gutter Pop is #1 on my list. read more

The owner, Stephen, is extremely knowledgeable and can give you recommendations based on what else you like or specific topics. I've discovered plenty of fun and now beloved comics here - along with graphic novels on more serious topics like queer history, the internment of Japanese Americans, race, sex education, and more. The children's and young adult section really stands out, too. Overall, I'm so happy this shop is now on Hertel in the North Buffalo neighborhood! I love this shop. For such a tiny space, it packs a punch. I could browse the stacks here for hours. There are plenty of trades and single issues here to satisfy the DC/Marvel enthusiast. The owner of the store has excellent taste and stocks well. What makes the store unique is its incredible collection of independent graphic novels and zines. The taste of the owners doesn't fail here either. They also give excellent recommendations. Plus, it's rare to find a store stocking Indies that also does occasionally sales on books. I have always found the staff to be incredibly friendly, the music to be great, and the overall feeling of the store to be fun and interesting. Was looking tor a place to buy comics and graphic novels in Buffalo and came across this place. Of those I found the reviews were extremely favorable in terms of other folks' experiences of the staff. That turned out to be true! I love comics and just started reading them again, so there's lots I don't know. The staff person was super helpful and also kind to me and my partner. They answered all our questions and helped us look for things we were searching for (ordering what was gone). We came in really close to closing actually and was never made to feel like we were inconveniencing them or that we were being rushed either. Will definitely be going back in the future. read more

This shop is great - it's full of a large variety of comics and graphic novels, as well as a great front display of sweet enamel pins and patches. The inventory is varied and appeals to any type of reader, and the owner is willing to order anything you can't find there. They will even look at comics you own for consignment or purchase. My husband recently sold them his huge collection of old comics from his childhood - and this shop was the most honest place we found to sell to, and they had great communication during the process. Gutter Pop comics on Elmwood is a great addition to the city. Steven, the owner, is very knowledgeable about the different eras and genres of comics and graphic novels. The independent and smaller publishers are represented wonderfully. While there are also some DC/Marvel types of comic books, the emphasis here is on comics that are of excellent quality from individual artists.
