Absolute slowest Guthrie's in America. Waited in the drive through line for 30 minutes. Visitors beware

Best Fried Chicken in Panama City or Panama City Beach -- truly!…read more This is THE fried chicken: perfectly seasoned, thickly breaded, explosively crisp! Absolute YUM. But then... the sides... Who serves fried chicken and doesn't offer chicken gravy for the mashed potatoes? I asked, and the reply was: "We have brown and white." Brown and White??? That's a fried‑chicken sin. And the sin deepened when the "mashed potatoes" turned out to be so watery they could practically be served in a cup. I mentioned it to the waitress, who explained, "We use a mix of instant and real potatoes." OH‑kaaay. My response: "Way too much water." Meanwhile, I'm wondering where the butter and cream went. For reference: I took a skinny straw and actually sucked the potatoes through it. That's how thin they were. The vegetables, however, were genuinely delicious -- classic Southern style and well prepared. A surprise hit: the fried hoecakes. Imagine Jiffy sweet corn muffin mix dropped by the scoop full into the fryer. Oddly enough, they were even better dipped into the "brown" gravy (which tasted suspiciously like modified yeast extract). Look, I understand stretching product and using convenience items. But if you're going to cut corners, do it on pre‑slicing the desserts -- not on the core of a Southern plate. My suggestion to the owners: Lean into what you do exceptionally well -- that phenomenal fried chicken. Sell it by the bucket! I'll come buy it! Trim the sprawling buffet, reinvest in real mashed potatoes with butter and cream, make real gravies, and offer a rotating blue‑plate menu. Do fewer things excellently instead of trying to be an "everything" restaurant and missing the mark on the basics. The chicken is worth the trip. The sides could be, too, with a little love.

The food came out hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious, with every dish full of authentic Southern flavor. You can tell they take pride in both their cooking and their service. Easily a 5-star experience, and we'll definitely be back!

Very casual comfort, exactly what I'd expect from a restaurant with a Bayou namesake…read more The place has an unusual menu limited only to daily specials for lunch, so I initially got the impression that I was at some prison-like boarding school. But once I took my first bite, I was pretty satisfied. I had the country-fried steak, along with mash & gravy, and rice & gravy. It was good, and for under $20, I really can't complain. The place is huge, very spacious with both indoor and water-side outdoor seating.... something I'm not used to seeing in Los Angeles. It almost felt like a studio set at Universal. Definitely a lot of Bayou character! Service staff was young and friendly, without any of the pretentious I'm used to in La. The folks are real, and I appreciate that. Because of the limited menu, I'd advise you call ahead and make sure it's something you like, cuz if it's not, you're SOL. I like it. I'll definitely be back.

She said the flavor of the hollandaise sauce was awesome and the eggs were cooked exactly the way she likes. The ham steak was HUGE . She had to bring half of it home. It also was very tender and delicious. I had the cafe breakfast. It was 2 eggs 2 sausage patties grits and biscuit . I also had a side of sausage gravy. You can tell the biscuit is homemade and no corners were cut . It was perfect. The sausage and gravy was delicious and well seasoned. My eggs were cooked exactly the way I liked. The owners Nikki and Jim stopped by our table to see how everything was. It's nice to see owners with hands on their business and so caring about our experience. Our server was great and careful to explain our orders. This is an amazing place to visit and we will be back. The murals and old signs on the wall were cute and gave the place a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks for a great breakfast.

As a business owner myself I understand having a bad day or being understaffed, but the owner today…read moreat Fatty Patty's was extremely rude. Looking at other reviews, I see it seems to be a pattern. We're local and won't be back. We walked in and they were busy and she shouted close the door you're letting in hot air. OK, I understood, and let that go. There was a large party of 8 in front of us waiting to be seated. We asked for a table for 4. She yelled it would be awhile and to "get outside and wait" and she'd get to us when she could. Absolutely no reason to speak to customers like that. We left. I thought maybe it was someone who had not taken their medications or an overworked employee that could use the opportunity for service recovery remediation, so I called and asked to speak to the owner. I would want to know if one of my employees had spoken to my customers in that manner. When I asked to speak to the owner, to my surprise, the rude female hostess said she was the owner and she didn't have time to speak to me and hung up. We went right down the street to Flour Power and got seated within 10 min. Service was great and the food was delicious. In these difficult times we live in today, kindness and politeness goes a long way. Skip Fatty Patty's...go to one of the other breakfast establishments in the area. I won't support those in the community that don't have any respect for their paying customers. Do better or perhaps find some other industry where interacting with people or just fellow human beings is required.
