CAPE MAY: Gusto Brewing Company is the southernmost brewery in NJ and it is pretty awesome! We met one of the owners, Zach, who is just the nicest guy and has been home brewing for years before opening the brewery. It was a quiet night, so he allowed us to come inside, but the rules are dogs must be outside. If you plan to visit, prepare to sit at their wraparound outdoor patio with nicely spaced seating and tropical plants. Check with the staff about going inside. The storefront is in a shopping center, so sitting outside has the benefit of an overhang from the building to block from weather conditions. The beer menu is a nice mix of styles and when we visited, there was a wheat/hefeweizen on-tap, which thrilled Brie's Mom because they are becoming harder to find. Veteran owned and operated and was one of our favorites spots on our trip! Very close to the Cape May Lewes Ferry too.

    No flights for you!!!

My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon during a whirlwind tour of Cape May and several of the surrounding area's breweries. There were two young women serving beers who were both very friendly and welcoming. Gusto has the fun distinction of being NJ's southern most brewery. It's in a strip mall, but it's in the corner which makes for a lot of windows and a lot of natural light. That and the two story ceilings and view of the brewing equipment really open up the space and easily make you forget you're in a strip mall. We tried the Saison Nouveau which is a Farmhouse Saison made in collaboration with Cape May Winery and conditioned with Merlot grapes. Gorgeous red color and incredible taste. I can honestly say I have never had another beer like it! We also tried the Far Unlit Unknown (Triple IPA) which was just as delicious. We would have gladly tried more, but they don't offer flights, which makes them one of the few NJ breweries I've been to to not do so. Not sure why. Despite only trying two of the beers, I think a good clue as to the quality of this place is the lengthy description and tasting notes next to each beer on the menu. These are people that care about the beer they make and know what they are doing. We don't make it to Cape May too often but we will definitely visit again when we're back in town!

Great spot. Nice and clean and friendly staff to help you decide what you'd like to try. We stopped in during the week. I enjoyed their coffee stout which was sooo good! I think we are going to try to stop back before we head home. Oh and the owner is a Coast Guard vet!

I was unsure what to expect from a brewery in a shopping center, but Gusto is a real treasure. The staff (Sam and the other girl we didn't get the name of) were super friendly, gave excellent recommendations, walked us through their whole menu, and introduced us to the milk tube. Out of the three breweries we tried in the area, this was hands down our favorite. They don't do small pours but they will allow you to taste anything you like. Their Pieman was the only IPA I've ever liked. It has zero bitterness. Cape May is pretty far from me but if I'm ever back in the area I will be returning.

Gusto Brewing was the 94th brewery that I have visited within NJ alone. Cape May County has so many really good breweries; I walked into Gusto because I have made it a goal to visit each and every one within NJ. They have only been open 10 months. Turns out Gusto Brewing is very funky, off-beat, young, and friendly. I felt comfortable right away as I stepped inside. They had a pretty decent party atmosphere, even though it was Sunday and off-season. I can see why. The owners and staff are dedicated to making sure the customers feel at home. I would compare Gusto to Vinyl in Hammonton and Conclave in Flemington. The beers are all made with attention to detail. While you're there, you can read the beer-list and get an idea for the back story on each one. The hazy IPA I tried was sophisticated and just as good as any other I have tried at more established, larger breweries. I got a growler of it to go, and I don't do that often. Zack owns Gusto along with his wife, and there's also brewer Dan. He was telling me about how they will start selling crowlers. They have the machine already, and I was impressed with how he will carefully do some trial runs to test how fresh the beer will stay in the crowler before he debuts it to the public. Although I arrived closely to their closing time, they still had a decent crowd going. They did not close strictly and were very nice to let me stay a little bit longer. I ended up buying more anyway. Gusto is geared as a tasting room only brewery in a more exposed location in a strip mall, instead of in an industrial park. Gusto is also located closer to the Cape May Ferry Terminal. I will definitely go back even though it is relatively far from my home.

Our party of four roamed through their gift shop where I picked up a 375 ml. bottle of Atlantic Bourbon ($45) for a bourbon-loving friend, two bags of beef sticks (@ $6), and an irresistible sounding jar of Orange Creamsicle Peanut Butter ($8). We hit the tasting room before we left, and I enjoyed a very refreshing Nauti Mary ($12) with their Nauti Spirits Vodka and house made Bloody Mary Blend. The rest of our party went the NA route and raved about their QUEEN OF HEARTS ($6) with Sprite, Cherry Syrup, Cherries, and a SPARKLER ($5) with a choice of Cherry, Orange, Pineapple or Ginger with club soda. All in all, visiting Nauti Spirits was fantastic, and it's a "must see" if you're ever near Cape May.
