It was my second time here, and love love the experience. From the timely reservation to hosting to the food, everything was spectacular. We tried samosas( must must try), masala dosa, filter coffee and rasam. The prices were reasonable and I highly recommend this place. Coming back again *__* read more

Super irritated by the level of care here. I made reservations for 5pm when they open for 4 people and noted we were coming for my dad's birthday. As soon as we were seated and hadn't even poured our water the server came over and asked us if we were ready to order (5:03pm). We went through the menu and were ready to order. My mom went first, followed by me, my brother and then my father. Our food came out in that order - except my dad's. At 5:30pm the server came around and reminded us of the dining limit and I frankly pointed out that my father who's birthday it is hasn't gotten his food and we were told it was because it was burnt and being remade 10 mins ago... His food comes at 5:35pm and someone else comes around at 5:40pm reminding us that we are approaching the dining limit. Needless to say, the service was absolutely horrible - no apology for the late food just hurry up eat and get out. Never returning to this restaurant. read more

Love this place we come here once every 2 weeks at least! Best dosa / sambar in the GTA

This was my first time trying South Indian food. My friend insisted on bringing me here since it's the best Indian food she's had in the GTA. Its a good thing she knew to make reservations ahead of time, it is definitely necessary because this place gets packed. Food: 9/10 Everything we tried was delicious! We shared the poori with potato bhaji, the idly/vada combo, and a plain dosa. I also ordered a mango lassi. The poori ended up being my favorite, it was light, fluffy, and perfect with the potato curry. Service: 8/10 Service was great overall. Our food came out super fast, but it seemed like they forgot our dosa order since we had already finished most of our food. But once we mentioned it, they fixed the issue quickly. Ambiance: 9/10 The restaurant was much larger than I expected. It's spacious, clean, and has a nice, lively atmosphere. read more

My standard place to grab a meal or too whenever in this area. Excellent service and superb food! Always crowded due to quality food. We always make a reservation and not taking any chances. I have always seen people waiting for their turn. We tried couple of dishes - Mysore masala dosa, masala dosa, idli and dahi vada and everyhing was perfect. Service was really nice and we truly enjoyed our visit. read more

We really enjoyed our food here. The Mysore masala dosa was terrific, and I especially loved the potato shak with peanuts that stuffed in it. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dosas. The kids enjoyed the dhai vahda and idli. Special call-out on the service. It was stellar. The server asked all of the correct questions, and was very efficient. You can make reservations on their Yelp page, and I would recommend getting there on time (as it gets quite crowded). read more

This is the first Bib Gourmand restaurant that I have experienced. I went to their website prior to visiting the restaurant and noticed that they take reservations online, which brought me to Yelp reservation system, so bonus since I already have a Yelp account. I made reservations for 12:00 PM on a Saturday. It is a good thing that I made reservations because when we arrived, there were a lot of people waiting to be seated, however, I just showed my reservation, and we were seated immediately. The interior of the restaurant more modern and elegant than expected with dark wood tables, dark seating, walls, and ceiling. There was a mix of tables and booths. We sat a booth in the corner. Guru Lukshmi is a South India restaurant that specializes in dosa, so we ordered several dosas including the Mysore Bhaji Dosa which was featured in a Toronto Star article. All the dosas were very good, but if you could just choose on, I would recommend the Mysore Bhaji Dosa. We also ordered a Sweet Dahi Vada for an appetizer, which as sweet, salty, sour and very refreshing. This appetizer was a good as the dosas. Overall, Guru Lukshmi had very good service, excellent food, and reasonable prices. I would definitely return again. read more

I saw that Guru Lukshmi made it to Michelin Bib Gourmand and knew I had to try it out. The restaurant is in a big strip mall with lots of stores which meant lots of parking. The plaza does get quite busy but it was easy to get in and out. My group had to wait a bit to get a table as it was understandably busy. Once you get in, the place is massive, with lots of seating and lots of dosas being served as you walk in. Servers were super friendly and provided great service. My group opted to started with the Medhu Vada which were fried very well with a nice crisp. For the main event, opted for the Pav Bhaji dosa and the Mysore Bhaji dosa. This being my first time trying dosa, I was blown away by how good everything was. The crisp dosa with the strong flavours of the filling/potato and the variety of dips, it was all amazing. The Mysore Bhaji was the stand-out of the two and would highly recommend. Definitely a must-try place and well worth the wait. read more

What an experience. One of the best South Indian restaurants I've been to. This was my second time so I had to bring my husband and kids along with my parents. The Dahi vada (sweet) was very good. Along with idli sambar. I preferred idli over the vada rasam if I had to pick one. Dosas were the best! Extra crispy. Then for dosa I would rate it in the following order in preference 1. Butter garlic dosa 2. Mysore masala 3. Spicy coconut And Badam halwa was to die for!!! Loved it read more

I love Guru Lukshmi! Ive loved it for years. Their dosas are always fantastic, especially the specialty ones! They even have a Jain menu which is incredible. Only giving it 4 stars because their staff is always ready to kick us out quickly! But still amazing food. Even their mango shake is really good! read more

One of the best dosas I've had outside of south India. I dined at Guru Lukshmi on a whim and loved every bite of it. The onion rava dosa with aloo masala (costs extra) was prepared fresh, and the accompanying chutneys and sambar were delicious. The Mysore Bhaji dosa was delicious as well. I liked how each dish has their own distinct taste. I also tried the mix veg uttapam (from their Jain menu) and it was soft and yummy, with a crunchy base. The coconut chutney accompanying all the dishes was authentic and did not taste like the powdery ones don't restaurants serve. The serving size of each dish was huge, and the overall taste was A+ Note: while the dosas come out faster, the utthapams do take ~20-25mins. I recommend making reservations since the 12pm rush on a Friday afternoon was very impressive. Service is courteous and prompt, and the ambience of the restaurant is very nice. Cards are accepted, and the parking lot in front of the restaurant is huge. I'll be back for sure the next time I'm in GTA. read more

It was great the first time, but unfortunately this time the uttapam was a burnt toast inspite of asking not to make it crispy. The Dosas are still very yummy no doubt. Read this before tipping! You call for a reservation and they tell you no reservations but come in and the wait is 10 mins. So you drive there only to find out that the wait is 1.5 hours and that they accept reservations online, but that is not working. Never again - not recommended, the perfect example of poor customer experience. read more

I think I'd probably only eaten dosa once before in the last couple of decades, and I wasn't super impressed but that was probably because we got it delivered. (The dosa had naturally gotten very soggy by the time we began eating.) So when I heard that Guru Lukshmi was doing some of the best dosas in the GTA, I knew I had to check it out. We arrived a little before they opened on a recent Saturday, and the place already had a line out the door. It didn't take long for us to land a table in one of the joint's two rooms, however. I began perusing the extensive menu and finally decided to try the Spicy Mysore Bhaji Dosa ("Spicy Mysore paste spread on dosa, topped with a perfect combination of fresh onions, coriander, green & red peppers, special spices and butter to give it a pleasantly surprising taste"), and I added the Aloo Masala to the dish. It arrived a little while later accompanied by three sauces and a tiny bowl of soup (I think it was soup, anyway). It's pretty good. Just by itself, with that aforementioned paste, the concoction didn't exactly blow my mind. It didn't pack that flavorful punch I was expecting, but when I started adding those sauces to it, the dish became much, much better. The soup was very tasty, too. I'd definitely return but I'd probably get a non-paste dosa next time. read more

I'd give this 10 out of 5 stars.... Just out of the world AMAZING!!!! The food was FANTASTIC!!!!!!! The dosas were the perfect crispness and perfect color.. I got the vegetable spring dosa made in butter and with butter garlic spread.... Omg delicious. The veggies were raw and I'm glad they told me that when I ordered it so I was prepared.. I would've preferred them to be cooked but nonetheless, THE BEST DOSAS I've eaten!!!!!!!!! Please come to Philly!!!' read more

Best South Indian food in the GTA. Must try Rasam, Spicy Sambhar, Idli, Medhu Vada and Spicy Mysore Masala Dosa.

we were looking to try some dosa and online all the reviews said Guru Lakshmi was the best so we decided to try it out. we got the vada and then the aloo (potato) dosa. both came with chutney and coconut chutney and the vada came with lentils while the dosa came with mint chutney. the vada was good and tasted fresh while the dosa was big, tasted fresh and had good taste. was it the best dosa i've eaten, no; was it a good dosa, yes. the space is decent and the service efficient read more

Really wanted to like this place and after so many positive reviews the expectations were very high! After not getting reservations for a while finally we're able to get here. I would say food is just fine for the price however the taste wasn't mind-blowing as expected, it was just average. Uttapam that we ordered was supposed to take 30-35 minutes so started with samosa which was pretty average. Dosa and pura/bhaji were fine. Filter coffee was good! Chutneys seemed odd especially red tomatoe chutney had an unusual flavor. Sambar was ok. read more

Soo good, from the dosa to the sambar. Will definitely be back! it's also a very inviting atmosphere and the service was top tier!

May be the sambar did not set for us. We are expecting more may be. Service is good and food may need Improvements

Simplicity can never be underrated. The Mendu vada and idli combo with chuttney was mouth watering. Hot and soft and fresh. Traditional taste maintained. Ghee masala dosa was perfect too. Crispy crunchy and not spicy. Sambhar was well made. Not too spicy either. A paneer dosa we ordered was spicy for my Canadian friend. Filter coffee is something you don't find here easily.
