One of our friend took us here to try out this place. We actually planned a day before to go here for lunch and arrived here empty stomach. So glad we did that! :)It was totally worth it!! If you are in search of authentic Unlimited Gujrati Thali in GTA area, you should definitely try this place. It is as authentic as it can get. Super friendly crew. Having booked mark this for a long time, me along with 6 other family members headed to this on a Saturday afternoon. The location is in an industrial area and parking spots are not maintained properly as it is frequented by trucks and larger vehicles. The inside is clean and seems a bit small. After we were seated the restaurant filled up quickly and there was some people waiting. A stainless steel thaali (plate) with 6 watis (bowls) were waiting to be filled. Upon asking what has dairy products the owner came out explaining all but two items being g served today were Vegan. What a pleasant surprise. The Yoghurt Kadhi (curry) and a sweet made from cream of wheat had dairy. The Chappatis come out without anything and you can top them with ghee. But first came the appetizers two types of pakoras and while dhoklas (steamed savoury cakes). They are served with 2 chutneys and one carrot pickle. All were perfect. The dhoklas are just amazing. Soft with the perfect amount of seasonings. Then came the curries. Potato (ok), whole Moong (delicious), lentil daal and yogurt curry (daal was amazing, I probably drank 1/2 a litre of it. Okra (very good, but on the greasy side - hard to make with less oil). Sweet Boondi (ok). And then the Chappatis and deep fried pooris (whole wheat bread). And yes Oondhiyu/Undhiyu very well made with minimal oil just the right amount of spice that even the most people with spice intolerance can enjoy. At the same time full of flavour. And don't forget the rice. You can all down with a salty lassi or chass as it called (watered buttermilk). If you love Gujarati food and want to taste how all AYCE (weekends only) thaalis are served in Mumbai and Gujarat, this is the place. There are many servers all very good and perfectly serving most of the time. Some food we had to wait a bit longer as we had the curries, but no Chappatis and we finally had enough Chappatis not enough curries. It's the only thing they can improve. I just had dinner from this place - I ordered a veggie pizza and Gulab Jamuns. The veggie pizza was so delicious, I had to write this review immediately. If you want to have a typical homemade pizza with simple toppings, I would highly recommend this place. The pizza was fresh and crispy and they were generous with the amount of toppings. Gulab Jamuns were not my favourite- they tasted good but I don't think they were fresh. The prices are reasonable and the portions are sufficient for a single person. We heard great things about this place from a few people so we were very excited to try it out, specifically the kathiawadi thali. Unfortunately, our experience was unsatisfactory and we felt that it was a waste of money. First of all, they don't know themselves when they will be serving their well known kathiawadi thali. It is only served once in a while when the owner feels like it. So right off the bat we were confused and disappointed because that's the only reason we had gone there. Since we were already there, we decided to try the only thali they had available at that time. It came with pakora, papad, 2 veg dishes, daal, rice, roti or puri, 1 type of achaar and 1 sweet. It is a newly opened restaurant in not so residential place (Warehouses, Loads of Trucks and Trailers parked in that plaza) so it is easy to miss this spot being in such an expected area. Dishes we tried: Sichuan Vada Pav, Butter Pav Bhaji, Avsar Kachori Chat, Dahi Batata Puri, Puri plate (ordered for the kid which was not menu but the owner obliged our request for it). We ordered a weekend thali as a takeout ( cost $16+, it comes with 2 roti (really, is that it) or 4 puri) Positives: food taste was satisfactory. Negatives: it was a takeout thali with very very less quantity. Terrible value for money doesn't matter how good the food is. It was a 6 section thali platter very very small in size. There are multiple restaurants that offer a take out thali for $8.99 and a lot more food. Bigger sectional thali. I had to even pay for extra roti, puri . AMRAS in thali was max 4-5 spoons. Usually it is fair for a restaurant to charge$16, for an unlimited meal served in the restaurant as a sit down. A take out thali with such less quantity is terribly high priced. Quality was also sub standard.Rice was surti kolam not basmati for that price. I don't feel comfortable eating at a place where they charge you well and yet are hesitant to feed you well. THEY WOULD BE FINE TO THROW AWAY EXCESS FOOD IN GARBAGE BUT NOT FEED PEOPLE WHO PAY. What a shame. I will not go there again simply because there are other competitors that offer good value for money. I don't want to feel like someone did a favor by feeding me. Almost missed this place on Matheson, you have to look twice between all the trucks parked here. Came here for the weekend buffet. Was not disappointed and Had good authentic Gujarati food!The place itself is small and clean. Although the parking area could be a little better, the restaurant itself is very good. They didn't really give us a menu or ask us what we wanted, but just started the Royal thaali, and we went with it. It's an unlimited supply of Puris, chapatis and everything else. The dishes were fresh and tasty. There was the authentic Gujarati sweet kadhi and dhaal, channa masala, aloo subji, Karela subji, cabbage subji, chaas, rice and fruit salad. The chappatis were so delicious and soft! Puranpoli was also served and very sweet. A variety of chutneys, achar and papad was also served. Service was great, with them coming back frequently to check for refills. Would love to come back here, hopefully parking is sorted out by then. read more

Experience at the new restaurant Avsar - Indian Thali & Street Food for Unlimited Gujarati Thali. We had the Royal unlimited thali for lunch today. I so wanted to love the food here. Being a food blogger on Instagram, a big time foodie and a Gujarati myself I know exactly what to expect when I'm paying almost $20 per person for one time meal. Unfortunately I'm extremely disappointed with the food here. Here's why! First things first- Thumb rule when you go to any restaurant- food served is expected to be hot enough. By hot, here I do not mean the spice level but the food temperature.That was fixed after we complained about it. Second- Staff Quality-The servers are not well trained. The order in which the food was brought in was completely ruining our experience. The server even spilled the food twice on my clothes while serving. They really need to provide good training and have an understanding to offer food in timely manner. Third- Taste Test- From the frontal angle the varieties offered may look promising but none of them barely had any flavour to it. Every item was either lacking salt or sugar or was too slurry. Fourth- Value for money- We were expecting Aamras to be part of the so called Royal Thali menu as it's the Mango season right now. And then the thali price would have been justified. Fifth- Ambiance- Nothing great about it. However the cutlery provided meets expectations when one goes to eat a thali. I really hope they will work on the areas they lack as of now and get back in the game. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends yet. Good food but too much repetitive in terms of same curries every other day. Too pricy for snacks - I would never pay 4.25 $ for just one single vada pav. I would rather try a Marathi food place 4 mins from them called IMLI to eat typical Marathi style Vada pav for 5 bucks (2 pieces). Service when dining in always an issue but take out is ok. The place is probably my least favorite place in Mississauga/Brampton to have Mumbai street food. I had the following dishes, here is my review of each of them - 1. Misal Pav - I had this to start. It was hot (which I like. Hot as in taste not temperature) but not tasty. 2. Sev Puri - again hot but not tasty. Difficult to spoil this dish but they managed to do it anyway. 3. Chilli Cheese Sandwich - slimy and clearly not as good as other cheese sandwiches in the area. 4. Bhel Puri - Too salty. Found it hard to enjoy. Please go elsewhere to spend your money. This is my second time here. Both times we were a big group of over 10 people. The menu had variety for vegetarians . It s Gujarati food haven . Prices are reasonable and ambience is relaxed casual. Service was prompt and courteous. The owner stepped out both times to see how we were doing. It is family run looks like and everyone was very nice. Food was awesome. Bhelpuri tawa pulao Pav bhaji were all mouthwatering. The special thali was too good. The aloo bhaji and puri and bindi fry were spot on. Being a vegetarian joint is a huge plus. PRICE AND QUANTITY do not go hand in hand. I am a big foodie and big food blogger and love trying various kind of food and being a Gujarati myself I expect the quality and quantity to be precisely perfect. Biggest drawback - QUANTITY. The re branding from KALAs Kitchen to Avsar has not changed much. They have INCREASED the PRICE and SHOCKINGLY REDUCED the quantity. I ordered a regular thali for 9.95 which was previously 7.95 and served 4 rotis whereas the new thali has only 3 Rotis or 4 very small sized pooris. I had to order 2 extra pooris that cost me 1.25$ which is expensive for a poori and I ended up paying 12.66 with tax. NO FLEXIBILITY - I asked the server if she could not give me the butter milk and instead provide me 2 extra rotis and she refused. Summary - The NEW NAME does not change anything here. The servers were not happy working either and said they cannot do anything about it that means the owner just wants to MAKE MONEY out of the EXTRA POORIs and ROTIs and I always thought myself as a Gujju that we always did everything perfectly. So The owner did good by advertising through facebook and my wife suggested me this as they had special kathiyawadi food for next few days and we thought to give it a try in our still continuing search for Authentic Gujarati Food, but unfortunately didn't come through as per my expectation. Location, as suggested by someone before, in industrial area, but for me area is ok, food should be awesome, as I am an experienced indian foodie eaten food at the roadside laari too :) I entered with much expectation and my mom mentioning about something smelling nice and that prepped me up mentally for it. Then came the final moment and we had few stuff being gently put in our thaalis by multiple young servers and no complaints they were all fine. One methi gota ( probably thought to let us try it and then have more if we liked, probably not confident about it? ;) ) some achaar, chatni, khaman, laapsi, and some vegetables came in as main meal. We had sev tameta, bharthu, and lasaniya bateka. Wheat roti and Baajra ki roti were nice but to be honest, couldn't like the vegetables. Sev tameta, was Okish, with a bit more sour, lasaniya bateka had no taste to it ( not sure if making sure the locally born gujaratis can take it may be that's why?) and shocker was the bharthu, I actually thought it was mutter and some other stuff as vegetable but when I read menu I realised it was bharthu, not at all close to it. laddu and laapsi were good but not like something you would come back for. I didnt even try khichdi and called it off for me. No offence, but to my taste, this was not authentic gujarati food. Search still continues. Visited Avsar today June 10th, 2018. Must say it was disappointing at best. Here's why: 1. The table did not have the required number of cutlery for the number of people sitting on the table. restaurant 101 says that that is the first thing the restaurant needs to ensure is there on the table before serving. 2. The food was cold and we had to ask for it to be heated. Given that we were there about 15-20 minutes after it opened up in the morning this should not be the case. In any case, Indian food is always served hot. 3. We had to ask for servings, rather that they coming by periodically to check if we needed anything. We got the feeling at times that it was not 'unlimited' although we were paying for 'unlimited' servings. 4. Quality : The dal and kadi were watery, and so was the chaas. 5. The owner could do well to get the area around the restaurant cleaned up a bit. 6. Its pricey for the quality of the food being served. read more

I visited this restaurant last Sunday to try the Gujarati Thali, which looked very tempting in the photographs on Facebook. To my surprise what was served was nothing as in the pictures only the chapatis and puris looked the same. The food did not taste good at all. The Cashew sabji was terrible, with extra hot spices which could not be consumed. Even the guest next to my table complained of the same and did not eat it all. The daal also did not taste good at all and watery with a lot of hot spices. So, I had to make do with two sabjis only to finish my meal. The price you will cry is a awesome $20.00 plus tax. I would suggest to have a Thali at Savannabhavan for only $12.99 which is much better tastier and filling. Never again. read more

It was great when it started, my family have been there several times. Now that it has started to run, they have become complaisant. The servings have reduced, the prices have increased, there were only two other couples along with us, and we had to ask for rotis and purees a couple of times before we were served. The thali came with two subzis, choice of kadi or daal, rotis or 4 pooris and rice. The quantity of rice was about three teaspoons and the poori was slightly bigger than a loonie.
