Lunch buffet variety
Krystal M.

Very few Indian places have lunch buffet anymore and that's what I was really looking for. I've been here once before. For two of us lunch buffet was a total of $34. Had a good selection of your main Indian dishes. It was all very good and the naan came out hot and fresh. The service was good and the staff was very friendly and came to check on us throughout.

Curry vegetables with rice and tandoori roti.

I came here for dinner early in the evening when it wasn't busy. The service was excellent and my food came out quickly. Vegan options were clearly labeled. I got the curry vegetables and the tandoori roti. I asked for hot for the curry and the dish had a nice spice to it. The bread was really fresh and had a good texture to it. I would definitely come back.

Pros: complimentary chai and naan, lots of vegetarian and meat options, good price for buffet, lunch and dinner buffet options. Plus points for the various chutneys accompanying the samosas. Cons: meats were all chicken dishes, dishes could be spicier. Gurkhas is a clean and appealing restaurant offering AYCE Indian buffet options for lunch and dinner. Veg dishes I tried: Dal makhani, saag with paneer, veg korma, veg stir fry Meat dishes: butter chicken and tandoori chicken All the dishes I tried were fresh and flavorful albeit a little bland for my pallete, but the price and service was top notch. I'll be back for sure!

Overall (D) This place is not good. The food during the lunch buffet was watered down "Indian" food. The positive reviews have got to be from individuals who have not been to an Indian restaurant before. Honestly if this is what passes for decent Indian food - I will open up a place in Colorado Springs. Food (D) It was bad. The chutneys were watered down. Naan took forever to come out and was average and the food - ehhh. Yes it was edible but not memorable. The only thing I will remember is literally throwing up after ward. Yes I am not making this up. But threw up the mango dessert. The "tandoor" chicken was not. All the items were flavorless. Look I am not trying to be an Indian food snob. I really like Americanized Indian food and I have found my share of gems in small towns. This food is just not good. Yes it's a buffet and they had a decent selection. But just not a good one. Even the samosas had a weird taste. Service (C+) Typical old school Indian restaurant service. Staff is untrained and slow. I feel bad for them because they have not been set up to succeed. But it is what it is. The naan took forever to come out and of course all the tables got it at once. The lady is nice and pleasant but the guy is a bit of a weirdo. Value (B+) So it is only $15.99 so it is cheap and if they improved the quality of food they could charge $19.99. But the food was bad. So I'm conflicted. I guess what should I expect? So maybe this is my fault. I guess it's like going to a Chinese buffet and being disappointed. So I'm never going there again and I would strongly recommend anyone who does to try other Indian places. There has to be better options. Even for buffet. It can't be this bad. I am kicking myself for wasting all those calories on such crappy food. Avoid this place at all costs It is not a 4/5 more like a 2/5

The size and selection is the hallmark of this place. I actually thought the quality and temps were better than on my previous visit. My wife commented her first plate was rather lukewarm, but the temps were better on her second plate. One daughter thought everything was good, while the other thought what she had was just fair. They've still got the chocolate fountain for dessert, which is nice. Service wasn't great overall. Multiple times we had to move our empty plates to another table to get them out of the way. Drinks sat empty until we asked for refills. We also only got two straws, even though there were four of us, so weird we had to ask for more. This is a long way to go for a Chinese buffet, and since nobody else was blown away by it (even though I liked it) guessing we won't rush back too soon.

True buffet eaters know we shouldn't be expecting too much on the rate scale from buffets, especially here where it is not common. We're from CA where you can find buffets blocks from each other so we wanted to give this a try. The place is huge first of all. There's so much seating available. Very well kept. Service was great. Minimal talking with the waiter. TV's muted but on display. There are so many food options. Deliciously looking too. The Chinese food was good. The fried chicken entrees were definitely the same as every buffet, overcooked & tough. But those sauces they drown it in are so good!! The Mongolian grill is such a plus! Sushi was good. Way more options than we expected. I was definitely eating my money's worth in sushi. Sauce stations have delicious sauces. Dessert/fruit bar was good too. We're not the biggest fans of the overwatered "soft serve" ice cream at buffets even when it's included but they have a chocolate fountain, which paired well with the strawberries & marshmallows. True rating: 3.8/5.0 Leaving a 4 will gladly be back :)

The Hot Spot seems to be under Vietnamese ownership, judging from the big Karaoke setup in the middle of the room and the surround music being Vietnamese songs. I'm sure this place becomes lively when there is a party and people take to their singing skills. But on this regular Saturday afternoon, it was not even half filled. Customers have a choice of ordering regular Vietnamese fares or be seated at a hot pot table to enjoy cooking your own food. One nice thing about The Hot Spot is that we weren't limited to 90 min or 2 hours. Could be because it was during a slow time. Food wise it was far from an elaborate hot pot experience. The broths don't have distinctive flavors from one another and there lacks a sauce station! Which is a signature hot pot spot! The meats, when brought out, especially the beef slices, tend to be on the darker hue, to me that signals less fresh. And the booth seats aren't the most comfortable. I think they make shift to turn the booth tables into hot pot compatible where the outlets are in the way of your knees (if you're tall and have long legs) or if short like me, the seats feel sunken. All in all, it was still a fun experience for AYCE hot pot, especially when not under time pressure and the staff is friendly albeit not the fastest.

They have a very nice salad bar, with side dishes to go along with the meat. We love Brazilian barbecues, and I've been going to them for almost all of my adult life. The problem with this place, at least for us, is that they hardly brought us any beef. We were there for almost a half hour before the first guy came by with meat. He gave me a little sliver of sirloin that was about the size of half a strip of bacon. About 15 minutes later somebody gave me a cold chunk of turkey wrapped in bacon. And then somebody came by with some roasted pineapple which we weren't interested in. Suffice it to say, we only got small little slivers of beef, and this was frustrating because what we did receive tasted great, but they hardly ever came by and the slices they gave us were extremely small. We were basically starving to death and so we ended up having to feed ourselves from the salad bar. I had a black bean soup that was pretty good, and a salad. I would say in the hour and a half we were there I didn't get 6 ounces of beef. My wife and daughters had given up in pretty much up on waiting for meat and they just snacked on the salad bar stuff. So they got even less. Given the price point on this lunch, it was not a good deal at all. I mentioned to one of the guys who cut the meat at the table that we really wanted some more steak. He gave a very insolent response, with a scowl and a shrug of the shoulders. Very bad vibes. Would I go here again? Maybe we just caught the place on a bad day. But there were only a handful of other patrons there while we were there, and so I don't know why the service was so horrible. It was not a good experience and it wasn't worth even a fraction of what we paid. This was more of a salad bar experience than it was a Brazilian barbecue. I maybe would try this place one more time because I love Brazilian barbecues, and to the best of my knowledge there are none other in the area. But overall it was a very bad experience and I only give it two stars because the salad bar was acceptable.

And I gotta say, this ended up being one of my favorite experiences during this recent Colorado trip. There's truly something for everyone to enjoy and the experience begins well before your bbq buffet dinner does! We arrived about an hour before the dinner/show time and spent time wandering the ranch and exploring what all there was to see. There is a petting zoo, a little train ride through a "mine", hiking trails, ax throwing, Native American demonstrations, and so, so much more. Now as for the dinner, you'll be sat family style and then section by section you'll go up and make your way through the buffet line. I was surprised by how tasty everything was (the brisket wasn't Texas worthy but the bbq chicken was super yummy). As soon as everyone had gone through the line, it was open for anyone to go back through the buffet line for seconds (or thirds). But wait there's more! While you dine, you'll also enjoy a live musical show with a band singing old Western and spiritual songs. And as if the visit couldn't have been any better, towards the end of the show a herd of wild bighorn canyon sheep made their way down from the surrounding hills and wandered through the rach outside the dining hall. All in all I'll definitely be back to Flying W Ranch if ever get the chance and so should you if you ever find your way in Colorado Springs!

Make sure to get there early so you can enjoy the multitude of things around the ranch. There are many farm animals that you can look at and learn about. There is archery and axe throwing. There is a train ride and a wagon ride. There is even a Native American show where you can learn about their traditional dance and culture. Later in the night, you get herded into their dinner building. You are assigned a table number from when you check in. They release tables one by one to go get food. And there is a ton of food to grab. You just carry your metal plate and people place food directly onto your plate as you walk down the line. There is more than enough food, I definitely could not finish it all. You get brisket, chicken, baked beans, baked potato, applesauce, biscuit, and spice cake. Could have used a vegetable to round out the meal but thats ok, I'm not complaining. After everyone gets food, you can grab seconds if you want. There are also plenty of drinks like water, lemonade, and iced tea. And finally, the show begins. The Flying W are a talented group of musicians that can sing and play instruments. They sang classic cowboy Western songs but also some Christian songs. It was extraordinary and made for a great way to round out the night. You certainly get your moneys worth between the food, show, and experiences. Highly recommend, I don't think you will be disappointed!

We ordered the spicy chicken kabobs, combination kabob platter (chicken and lamb), and lamb rogan josh with naan. The kabob platter came with basmati rice, red cabbage salad, and chickpea masala. Everything was freshly prepared, flavorful, and enjoyable. The host was very pleasant and welcoming, and they even offered us a complimentary dessert to celebrate our son's birthday, which was a thoughtful touch and made our visit extra special. One suggestion from our perspective: Afghan and Indian cuisines each have their own unique characteristics, while also sharing some similarities. It would be wonderful if the restaurant could highlight these similarities and differences and help introduce diners to aspects of both cuisines that they may not be familiar with. Perhaps consider offering an "India & Afghanistan" tasting platter featuring small portions from both cuisines. That way, guests could experience the flavors of both worlds in one meal! It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.
