I have to admit - being a Texas resident these days I was a little skeptical when my sister mentioned wanting to visit the Flying W Ranch for a chuckwagon dinner. And I gotta say, this ended up being one of my favorite experiences during this recent Colorado trip. There's truly something for everyone to enjoy and the experience begins well before your bbq buffet dinner does! We arrived about an hour before the dinner/show time and spent time wandering the ranch and exploring what all there was to see. There is a petting zoo, a little train ride through a "mine", hiking trails, ax throwing, Native American demonstrations, and so, so much more. Now as for the dinner, you'll be sat family style and then section by section you'll go up and make your way through the buffet line. I was surprised by how tasty everything was (the brisket wasn't Texas worthy but the bbq chicken was super yummy). As soon as everyone had gone through the line, it was open for anyone to go back through the buffet line for seconds (or thirds). But wait there's more! While you dine, you'll also enjoy a live musical show with a band singing old Western and spiritual songs. And as if the visit couldn't have been any better, towards the end of the show a herd of wild bighorn canyon sheep made their way down from the surrounding hills and wandered through the rach outside the dining hall. All in all I'll definitely be back to Flying W Ranch if ever get the chance and so should you if you ever find your way in Colorado Springs! read more

One of my favorite things I did in Colorado Springs! This family friendly show is perfect for people of all ages. And I love the Christian values that this venue sticks by. Make sure to get there early so you can enjoy the multitude of things around the ranch. There are many farm animals that you can look at and learn about. There is archery and axe throwing. There is a train ride and a wagon ride. There is even a Native American show where you can learn about their traditional dance and culture. Later in the night, you get herded into their dinner building. You are assigned a table number from when you check in. They release tables one by one to go get food. And there is a ton of food to grab. You just carry your metal plate and people place food directly onto your plate as you walk down the line. There is more than enough food, I definitely could not finish it all. You get brisket, chicken, baked beans, baked potato, applesauce, biscuit, and spice cake. Could have used a vegetable to round out the meal but thats ok, I'm not complaining. After everyone gets food, you can grab seconds if you want. There are also plenty of drinks like water, lemonade, and iced tea. And finally, the show begins. The Flying W are a talented group of musicians that can sing and play instruments. They sang classic cowboy Western songs but also some Christian songs. It was extraordinary and made for a great way to round out the night. We went out there for the Cowboy Christmas show this evening and really enjoyed it. Everyone working there was so kind, friendly, and helpful. This place is phenomenal! Arrive early to explore the ranch. Live animals, axe throwing & archery, and gorgeous scenery are just the beginning. I was impressed by the Native American dancing and a lovely lady weaving the most incredible rug. Then came dinner. Fantastic food - yummy beans, chicken & brisket + the best applesauce I've ever had, and a really great gluten free cookie for dessert. GREAT experience with friends. These folks know how to feed you. You can stroll the grounds which are lovely. This ranch is tucked into the red rocks hog back west of Colorado Springs and the setting is gorgeous. They roll the animals out for you to see, etc. Cattle, mini-horses and donkeys. Goats for the kids. You can even test your archery skills or your hatchet throwing skills. There's a Native American demo of dancing also before dinner. Dinner itself is extraordinarily organized. But before that begins is GRACE! A Blessing for sure. They can stuff hundreds of folks through 4 food lines VERY quickly. And the food? The food is just fine! Beans, chicken, brisket, potatoes, applesauce, a biscuit and cake. Lots of it AND seconds are also on the menu! You WON'T leave hungry! They have plenty of staff circulating to refresh drinks and clean up after you. THEN come the Flying W Wranglers. GREAT harmonies. Good ol' western music + some gospel! They have fun, we had fun, and you'll have fun! Even heard an invited guest who sang with the Wranglers the very first Flying W dinner in 1953. Sang and yodeled at 92 years young. Special dude. This is my second time to the Flying W Ranch, and both time have been great! The grounds have lots of activities including animals, axe throwing, and horse carriage rides. There was a lot of rain on my second visit, but the staff did their best to bring the activities under cover. They even had a Native American dance and started dinner early. The food is served promptly and by table in buffet style. However, it takes less than 15 minutes for the hundreds of people to get their food. Impressive! My husband loves the brisket, and I love the cinnamon apples and biscuits. While expensive, it's a great family-friendly outing. Would recommend for those visiting Colorado Springs, it is a nice western experience. read more

The Flying W Ranch is in a beautiful location. We enjoyed a leisure walk around before dinner was served. Dinner was excellent and served efficiently. All guests were served within 20 minutes which was quite a feat. Food was hot and very tasty. My husband went back for seconds of brisket and beans which was allowed :-) The show!!! The show was so much fun with just enough corniness but not overdone. They were incredible singers and musicians. We enjoyed the show greatly! This is definitely a family friendly event. They have everything from Indian dancers, petting zoo with goats, sheep, emus, and llamas, ax, throwing, and archery sections. There are plenty of places to go on little hikes. There are turkeys miniature donkeys, all long being supervised by wranglers on horses. The chuckwagon dinner itself was not really authentic kinda sent you through a line and slap stuff on your tin plate. The food was OK. The cowboy beans were delicious and the head of the show was the applesauce for some reason. The live music was definitely worth it. They really put on a good show. I would recommend if you're in the area and you have the time to at least go once I know it's a little expensive but it's definitely worth the experience. read more

A group of six seniors on a Monday night. The weather was perfect for an early evening at the "W". First time here since the fire. Parking was plentiful and golf carts are readily available to cart those that need assistance. A gorgeous setting and the grounds are well maintained. We wandered around for about an hour and then settled in the outdoor amphitheater for the Native American Indian dance show. About a twenty minute performance, very nice. We then headed in to the pavilion (covered) for the dinner and show. Very well organized and everyone gets served in rapid fashion. Surprise, the food is very good. Personally I cleaned my plate and if you so desire you can go back for more. I was too full to go back for more. The tin plate held brisket, BBQ chicken, beans, baked potato, apple sauce, a biscuit and a piece of spice cake. The tables are cleared and the music begins. We went a little early to explore the ranch. The grandkids enjoyed the train ride. The Navajo rug weaver was amazing. She was very friendly and informative, and watching her mother spin yarn from sheep's wool was great. The Native American dancing was a very moving thing to watch. It was interesting to hear how they are keeping the culture alive and pushing their children to get an education and help their people. I wish I had taken some cash with me to help support their work through the summer. They perform for tips only. The cowboy dinner was delicious and high quality food! After having friends tell us how great Flying W Ranch was for an evening out, we decided to book tickets, with them, for the last show of the season. Upon arrival we were directed to park, very basic simple dirt lot parking & it was very fluid. From here you made your way to the ticket counter, where you are provided with your tickets & table number. The location is stunning. From the moment you step out of your vehicle you're enveloped by a feeling of days past in an atmosphere that is unlike any other. We took the hour & a half prior to dinner & wandered throughout. The amount of activities & things to watch/do was extraordinary. We loved the spread out nature of the location, no matter where you were or what you were doing it was not a "packed" feeling, which was amazing. The dinner announcement was funny & the tips on how to move through the chuckwagon line allowed for it again to be a very fluid, and speedy. We had patio, hightop seats just outside the indoor seating. There is heating that they turn on as it gets later. It did get a little warm for us, but is great if you like being outdoors, but need a little warmth to take the chill off. Onto one of the biggest highlights, the food!!! I was excited for the entire meal, except the applesauce & spice cake. I typically don't like either, however, I cleaned my plate. Every aspect of the meal was delicious. The baked potato was so creamy, that it was like mashed potatoes. The brisket, chicken & trail beans had the best flavor. The biscuits were exactly what I expected, the applesauce & spice cake were incredible. The show followed & did not disappoint. One of the best moments was when they introduced one of the original gentlemen who was part of the original group in 1953. Hearing him speak & sing was a delight. We enjoyed every aspect of this entire experience!! From the ranch animals & Sweetwater Plains Dancers to axe throwing, food, & show, this was something I will recommend in the future to anyone who asks for a genuinely great, family friendly & fun experience. Hadn't been there since it was rebuilt after the fire. The western band is excellent and with the rebuilt stage you get video images added to the performance! The dining area is now enclosed which is a great feature - shade when it's sunny and hot, a roof over your head if it rains. The Chuckwagon line goes quickly and the food is good. Chicken was excellent, the brisket was OK and all the sides were great. The major difference is the small Main Street that burned down is gone. Now there are a number of spread out activities like hatchet throwing, bow target shooting, a small tunnel train, etc. it's similar and also different from what it was before the fire, but every bit as good an experience! read more

My mom surprised me with this experience and we had the best time! The ranch is absolutely beautiful! We arrived at 5:00. When we went they were doing their version of the Olympics! So we got to do a ton of fun things like horse shoes, lassoing, axe throwing, and archery. We also did partook in some of their all the time experiences such as wagon rides, train rides, seeing the animals etc... I love the fact that they provide time for you to experience and enjoy the ranch. The Cowboys and all staff were positively wonderful!!!! Everyone was so friendly and clearly passionate about the farm and having fun along with the rest of us! At 6:30 you are to be seated at your table to begin dinner. After the supper time triangle is ring you are dismissed in table groups. I'll just say that I love the way they do seating! We got do meet and dine with some lovely people! The food was quite good! Love the classic bumpkin bbq! Brisket was super flavorful and the biscuits were perfect! It's so beautiful to see and hear a huge amount of people dining with each other! After dinner the fun really begins!! The owner of the ranch came out and talked for a few minutes sharing the history and such and then she introduced the FLYING W WRANGLERS!!! I tell you what I haven't had that much fun in a long time! The band is so wonderful, talented, and funny! I love how dynamic the group is! The harmonies were simply stunning! ‍ I especially enjoyed seeing Luke and Ethan preform! After the concert was over they offered pictures and meet and greet. It was so fun to talk with them and get pictures! I could go on and on about it all! But I won't because I want you to experience it for yourself in your own way. So go! Book your tickets! Absolutely Phenomenal! A well oiled machine this place is! It was so good, we went two weekends in a row, once with a large staff group and then came back with our kids and grandpa. Doors open at 5pm, so make plans to get there early and take advantage of all of the amazing things they have to offer. Easy check in, no nonsense. Drinks were on point. We got seated to be first through the food line, which was great. I miss the chicken legs and brisket, but the thighs and smoked steak delivered tonight, no complaints there. Then the Wranglers kicked off. They ripped through "Rifle, Pony, and Me," "Orange Blossom Special," "Christmas on the Line" and all the hits you want to hear. Only nitpick is the bass player could've been louder in the mix, but that's splitting hairs. Still one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Would absolutely do it again. read more
