When entering the store, it is not very welcoming and the staff is very quick to just say no and have no follow up with any communication. They just brush you off and will proceed to get back to doing their own thing e.g. reading an article or something else. I entered the other day with a positive attitude and felt cast aside after asking something and received no follow-ups. I do my best to support local businesses but I won't do it here. They do have an expansive selection of firearms which was nice, but I couldn't shake the feeling of being treated as if I was a threat the ENTIRE time I was there. Everyone's right. Are they slow..Oh yeah, gotta be willing to wait your turn. I browse while I wait. Are they old ? Yeah, they're all old LEOs and mostly prior service. Bad vibes ? I don't care to buy online. I stop in and browse a bit. I approach the guy behind the counter and ask if they stock mags for a P229. His response was nope, takes a sip of coffee (I assume) and turns the page of his magazine . Ok..Are you able to order. His response may be but most guys are running the P226. Only old guys use the P229. I noticed a slight smile at the corner of his lip. I laughed saying well I Am an old guy. I carried this in the Corps and I need a couple new mags. He keeps flipping pages and sipping whatever and asks what's wrong with the old ones ? I experience jams. You sure it's the magazine ? Is your ammo old? So you clean the weapon ? You got it with you? He has me get the weapon from my truck and has the armorer have a look (free of charge) Meanwhile he disappeared into the back room and actually found one mag. I love Guns and Ammo! The men who work there are highly experienced in firearms, tactical shooting, and personal security. However, I've seen the questions some customers present to the employees!!! It's nearly impossible to recommend ammo, holsters, etc. when a person isn't able to tell the employee what brand or caliber his gun is! I'm partial I guess because my husband is one of the employees! He & all the other employees and managers are very serious about their job because firearms are an extremely serious entity!!! There are tons of rules & regulations they are privy to unbeknownst to most customers. Of course SALES are important since that is the business they're in, but I'm very proud of the fact that these mature & highly intelligent gentlemen run a successful and very secure facility! Read the reviews on this place and can sense people's frustration and think I can see both sides. There are some grumpy old men working there but if you lower your expectations for customer service, you won't be disappointed. I went window shopping on a slow night and the guys were OK, but I could see where some of them could have a little 'tude. The selection was great but prices are high. Sailor looking to purchase my service pistol. Would be my first ever gun purchase. Was having my car worked on next door Advance Muffler and Auto Service(who are awesome). I figured I would check out this establishment. Not a fire-arm newbie (to the guns i actually have experience in) but i'm no gun-nut either. First impressions: 1.) WOW they have packed a huge selection in a small space 2.) Lots of people around to "help" both customers/associates? and staff. Second impressions: 1.) "Can I help you" spoken in the tone of "Can I get rid of you?" - "Yes, I'm looking to get an M-9... its what I carried on sentry duty" ... attendant doesn't get up... a "Beretta M-9?" "over there... third one down... second or bottom shelf" 2.) okay, i'm not an idiot... let me warm up to this guy... "So I hear its cousin the Taurus' are decent." -- silence... "I just don't like their three position safety..." silence... so I prompt. "Do they make a Taurus like the M-9 but without the 3 position safety?" ...shrug 3.) gotcha going to be like that. 4.) "So what's the difference between these M-9's prices" "what we got them for." I had already soured on them by this point. If i wanted to answer my own questions, dig for every detail... and not have the expertise of an actual Gun-nut behind the counter i'd buy online for cheaper. Pretty impressive array of guns. Unfortunately, other than a very pleasant and brief conversation with "Jason" on the phone (which convinced me to check the place out), I was pretty ready to leave within minutes of arriving. After the pleasant phone call with Jason, the rest of the staff seemed pretty grumpy, unfriendly, or indifferent. There was a certain feel of tension in the store....maybe it's because it's Memphis (?), but It almost like each interaction was suspect. Also, I had specifically asked about a model of a gun. One guy was incorrectly referring to the particular model that I was asking about, which confused me. I asked him for clarification between the model that he was "stating" and the one that I had in mind (I was very polite but specific asking what is the difference between the two).....he started talking to me in a stern and brusque tone, as if I'm some sort of idiot. So, I looked it up on the manufacturer's website.....turns out that he was incorrectly stating the series/model. Additionally, at one point a younger(ish) black guy came in.....and was asking about a holster. The level of suspicion and hostility that he was subjected to convinced me that I was done. And for whatever it's worth, that younger guy was nothing but polite and direct with them....communicating clearly what it was that he was looking for. So, peace out. read more

He was very friendly and helpful from beginning to end from one veteran to another. His firearms knowledge is keen as well. I have read so many of these reviews and I didn't get any asshole vibes at all! As a matter of fact the reason I went back to purchase my gun was because these guys gave me so much knowledge! Even with this COVID going on and only so many people can be in the store at a time one guy took at least 45 minutes to educate me like I was paying for a class lol! He actually could have just sold me something and made some money but he said since I had never shot a gun he rather me go to the range first! I did and it made a big difference! I had a great experience purchasing from Guns and Ammo. All the employees were very helpful, and accommodating for my unusual and I'm sure, somewhat annoying needs and requests. For all of those that have given negative reviews, I'd say that a little bit of politeness goes a long way. If you don't treat store employees with respect, you shouldn't expect a great customer experience, although I'd be inclined to think that these guys would still do right by you, even if you were rude and impolite. Attempted to purchase a gun from deguns.net (btw, they have far cheaper prices on literally every gun that Guns & Ammo sells) and have this store used as an FFL to transfer the gun to me. An easy $60-80 they would have made from me. They notified me after my gun was shipped that they don't do transfers of guns that they sell in their store since they are allegedly a certified CZ-USA direct seller. (For reference, I bought a CZ-75) So, the manager tells me they will send the gun back to deguns and then tries to convince me Guns & Ammo sells the CZ-75 at a cheaper price even though I bought my gun from deguns at $538 with shipping included while Guns & Ammo sells their CZ-75 for $680, not including the sales tax and background check (another $80 at least for a total $740). You will not convince me that $740 is cheaper than the ~$600 I would have paid for the gun from deguns. As a result, I will absolutely refuse to use this store ever again and I will enthusiastically refer any of my friends and family to use any other store other than Guns & Ammo on Summer Ave. read more

It's a well-known fact (at least at work...is it the targets?) that I'm a gun nut, and so, fittingly, this is one of my favorite stores in Memphis. Don't get turned off by the slightly run-down look -- the store is packed to the gills with every kind of firearm you can imagine, as well as ammo, accessories, and more. I've never had a problem with quality, but be aware, the return policy is, in their words, "There is no return policy." The boyfriend and I have been wandering in here on a regular basis for about a year now, so we are considered regulars by the motley crew of old guys that work there. Again, don't get intimidated -- they might look like crusty old farts, but they know their guns, and they're happy to give you as much time as you need to ask questions and handle the merchandise. That being said, don't get upset when you have to wait while they take that time with the customers in front of you. They WILL help you, it just might be a few minutes. I've bought two guns here, and they are impressively thorough about safety and paperwork. All guns and knives are kept in locked cases, accessible only by employees behind the counter. All guns are checked and cleared before being handed to a customer to examine. When buying a gun, one person checks your ID and background check form, another rings you up, and yet a third checks your paperwork and ID again upon return of the background check and actual handing over of the purchase. What I really appreciate about Guns & Ammo is the opportunity to handle merchandise before purchase. They are running a bit short right now (due to recent events), but they're usually well-stocked with everything from .22's to shotguns. This is an awesome store! read more

I stopped by one day in a rush knowing what I wanted to get. Didn't have long and didn't need any sales pitch, or demonstration. After being ignored for a while, I asked if I could get started on the 4473. Apparently I offended the guy was was told "someone will be with you when they can". So I left and never went back. Nowadays it's easier to buy from Buds and transfer to a non gun store FFL, or go to Richards Armory in Bartlett. I hear similar stories from people at MSSA, but I can't understand how they are still in business. read more

My incident was a few years ago, but it came back strong like after reading some of the reviews. I entered the establishment to purchase 22 cal rounds for my rifle. I noticed wo customers and a staff member talking and as soon as they noticed me they all stopped talking. I could feel the tension as if they suspected I was there to rob the place. They have no idea what the ATF regulations are regarding residency and won't listen to you when you pull up the actual ATF statutes. All this on top on their misogynistic demeanor. I have heard many horror stories about how the men in this store act, But I seen it 1st hand for myself. I have never seen a store so cold! They give you the feeling that they just don't want you in there store. I paid almost $600 to them a month ago for firearm. I had previously bought 1 from Accent right across the street. During my recent move, my guns were stolen. I had all receipts/paperwork together since I was moving. I was told I needed the serial number to file a police report on the stolen guns. I called Accent and they gave me the make, model, and serial number right over the phone. The men at Guns & Ammo told me I had to pay them $100 for providing me with this info. This took seconds for the man at Accent to give me (FREE OF CHARGE OVER THE PHONE)! And they want to charge for something this small after I have given them my money. Are we this petty to charge customers this fee after they have chosen to spend their hard earned money with you? I would understand this fee if it had been years since purchase was made. It was a freaking month ago, and should be able to be obtained with just a few simple clicks of a mouse. This store has so many bad reviews from people saying the same thing. Everybody isn't lying on these men. It's simply ridiculous! I gave 1 star because I had to choose something. Your store doesn't even deserve 1 star! Ok so this review is mixed. First off the good: They have an incredible selection of guns. Probably the biggest in the city for sure. They also have a lot of surplus magazines and gear. This is the biggest reason to go here. If they don't have it, I'm sure none of the other smaller gun shops do. Now the not so good: The staff can be brutal. The men behind the automatic counter first ignored me when I entered, the only customer in the store, but at least replied when I told them what I wanted and chuckled when I hiked up my trousers (in response to their sign) and asked if I was dressed appropriately to purchase from them. Then it went downhill fast. Plus, I did some internet research and got much better info from S&W and a couple of other gun enthusiast sites. Actually, I think Classic Arms did some repair work for me about 20 years ago, and I have only positive memory of them. I don't understand the attitude in this store. What can I say about this place. I end up coming in here with a friend on a semi regular basis. I have never had a good experience and often wonder why I don't just wait in the car. If the staff decides to help you then they're usually not very knowledgeable, but usually you just get ignored. On more than one occasion I was literally standing with money in my hand ready to purchase a forward grip for my AR and the individual behind the counter would not break his conversation (once about a recent football game and the second time about his support of Gary Johnson) to even acknowledge that I was ready to purchase something and both times I just walked out. Great selection of product in this store! Items Crammed tight, and bare minimum customer service. Just be sure you are getting the product you are paying for; accessories or otherwise. Went in recently and purchased a pair of sights- CQB XS 24/7 EXPRESS NIGHT SET. I get home to install them and notice somehow the front site that comes with the 24/7 set is the correct front sight,yet somehow the rear sight was from the XS EXPRESS SET, yet I was still charged for the 24/7 sight set. These employees don't give a shite(except for Dana)who seems to be the only one that works around there. Dana is actually the only reason guns and ammo got that one extra star. I'm not a hater, I've Legally got a couple firearm's strapped to my side everyday and I'm not an ass. You little men(g&a) should work on your demeanor.
