I'm not sure why the reviews are horrible, the man was straight to the point when I got there asking if Im going to guns or tackle. Once we entered the store he asked if I needed help and I told him I'm here looking for ammo. I asked him where his selection for the 9mm and .40. He showed me his various selection of ammunition and I left with a couple boxes. Yall should definitely consider going, don't mind the reviews.!!!!! read more

I went to get some mags for my new Girsan today and honestly I've never in my life been more pissed than I was after mind you not even going inside he not only had a disrespect and obvious bigoted remarks he very much so didn't bother helping at all and on top of all of this choose to insult the store in which I purchased the firearm cause and I quote it was a pawnshop which I mind you was in reference to superior pawn who no matter which store I went to never and I mean never have I had so bad of a experience and even still go to the one near me for range days honestly worse experience I've ever had and to be honest I hope ppl actually read these reviews cause I sure as hell didn't and now i completely regret it. read more

This guy is rude and nasty He hasn't changed one bit since 2017 when I went in to buy my weapon he insulted me, as soon as I walked in before I even reached his counter asking if I know anything at all about weapons Called him just today to ask him a question he's the same rude donkeys ass he was 8 years ago read more

Extremely rude I went in a few days ago and was just greeted with pure bitterness as if I was creating a burden on him for asking about a firearm. read more

I recently purchased my first AR-15 from this shop. While the owner was noticeably rude and not particularly welcoming, I still chose to complete the purchase -- partly because I believe in supporting local businesses, even when the experience isn't ideal. It's unlikely I'll return, not because of the product, but because of how I was treated. I tend to give more grace than necessary in situations like this, but that doesn't mean I'll keep extending it indefinitely. Everyone deserves a pass once, but consistent customer care is what earns repeat business. read more

Came in curious & left after an awful exchange. I guess the owner thinks 47 years of owning your own business lets you be condescending & demeaning towards strangers. read more

Great tackleshop that has alot of old lures. Gun shop right beside it best of both worlds

when I walk in the shop the guy who was in there was very rude like it was a issue I was there the shop was very dirty and unorganized

0 stars. My fiancé & his friends (all military servicemen) went in to find a specific firearm that the shop didn't carry, and to look at tackle. Upon entering the shop, the owner was immediately impatient & off-putting. The selection was poor & the merchandise was strewn about in an unnavigable and disorderly fashion, much like a yard sale. My fiancé asked if the tackle area of the shop was open, as it was roped off. The owner asked, "if I open it are you actually going to buy something or just look around wasting time like you are now?" At that point, my fiancé had planned to buy some tackle purely because the owner had gone through the effort of opening up that portion, even though he was so disrespectful. While we were browsing the tackle, our friend merely lifted a fishing rod to see the price & make of it. The owner rudely said, "would you quit fingerf*cking the merchandise?" At that point, my fiancé & his friends left the store & said they'd take their business elsewhere. My fiancé has extensive experience purchasing firearms & has never been treated so poorly. read more

employee was very rude, chased me into parking lot cursin. I asked for the price of ammo and was told if your gun is empty it dosent matter the price. sad to see a business operating this way. will not go back read more

It's been a few years ago but Hess was as cranky as ever until he saw that I was gonna spend some $$. I wasn't bothered by it. He had what I wanted, I purchased it and left. read more

The owner of the gun shop was very knowledgeable and very helpful. I really enjoyed talking to him. This is truly a Norfolk gem, make sure to visit! read more

If you don't know what you want to buy or if you're are just looking around, do not go there. To be fair, I was touching stuff around his shop, that might be the reason the way he treated me, but still very rude. Never thought I will stumble across someone like him, specially in Norfolk. I don't like to assume, but if you are white and over 30, you will probably have a good experience. read more

Great , quick and easy service 10/10 would recommend . Great shop overall . Made my purchase super easy definitely coming back

Absolutely rude owner. Worst customer service I've experienced in 25 years. I can see why this fudd has no business. As an Instructor and range safety officer for the last two decades, I can say, this man is a prime example of who not to do business with when it comes to Firearms. Knowledge does not outweigh Rudeness. read more

Ron was a trip. I love these old school guys. They just don't make em like that anymore! Definitely be back and great inventory as well. My kinda place! read more

The man in the store was extremely disrespectful when I asked him what is the policy for buying a firearm and seemed racist.

Been buying overpriced ammo and guns for years to support his small business, as it's not all about the money for me. He must've fallen off the deep end with the way he's been treating good paying customers. Can't say I support it anymore, will no longer be buying guns or ammo here. read more

The bad reviews are definitely earned. Signage was out front with all requirements listed. One star for that. Absolutely the worst/ rudest customer service I have received at any establishment I have been to. If you didn't buy a gun from him he doesn't want to give you the time of day. I'm visiting my son (who is not well versed on guns) and am not a rookie by any account (30+ years) and yet I was lectured on what I needed instead of listening to my requests (funny I know, that I should know what I want). I will NEVER darken his doorstep again and I suggest you don't either. Bad business practice treating your potential customers that way. Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware. NOTE: parking is not good and only 3-4 spaces (depending on where he chooses to park his truck) read more

NO STARS BLACK BUYERS BEWARE It took less than 60 seconds to know that I will never spend my hard earned money with this piece of trash. Upon arrival his disposition was rude, nasty, and undeserving of any business. He wouldn't let us come in with our handgun, ok fine. However, to not let us purchase ammunition because we bought the gun elsewhere is complete nonsense. Initially, it felt like he was a general jerk, but with the additional rules it felt like his level of jerk was enhanced when dealing with Black people. read more

I've never written a review for anything in my life. But this old miserable man was so nasty and rude. Im not even bother by the mask thing your store your rules your old I get it. But beside that this guy is just an A-hole. He basically said everything except "get the F OUT N-word". First he ask me was I registered to vote, then he yells what's your job? With confusion I replied my wife is military and we just moved here why does that matter. What took the cake was when I asked him if he knows of any gun ranges around he said "Yeah a brunch but I'm not going to waste me time telling you where they are if your not buying a gun from me" Wow enjoy the rest of your long life with the short time you have my guy. read more

Nastiest human I have ever met. My friends and I were interested in purchasing a gun due to some of the activity lately around the area. We park in his small parking lot and by the time we got to the door, we didn't even have time to read the sign. He flung the door open and started yelling at us that we can't read at a 3rd grade level because we didn't put a mask on. I had masks in my car, and if he had asked politely, I would've been happy to put one on. But instead he made belittling and derogatory comments. I always prefer to shop locally versus large corporations, but I refuse to allow this man to ever have my business. read more

I walked in to check what I can buy. His shop only allows one customer in. This jerk just told me to stepped out because he rather breathe his own air and If I'm not buying I should leave. read more

Gun Shop-Ron Hess - This is what's posted outside his door. I'm the only one In there. Total Jerk!!! - Guns & Ammo Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Worst service I've received in my life. I'm almost 70yo. This review needs me to say more before I can post it. I clearly don't know what else to say. I'm too old for this nonsense. read more

I found over the years when I lived in Tidewater, If you could not find "it" anywhere, Ron probably has it. I live near Lynchburg now, but when in tidewater I went there looking for some items I had not found in all my searches local and even online. Got what I went for. Never forget when the price of Shot more than tripled, I stopped in and he sold me the last 2 25lb bags he had for the old price. Got both and change for what my other usual store was asking. hen you can't find it anywhere, call Ron. read more

I never made a review public before but this is the worst business I've ever been to. I'ma young, light skin black guy and my friend is Hispanic. He goes in first and Ron says nothing. when he sees me, he legit unholstered his rev and started screaming at me to get out. Never go there. read more

One star only because zero stars can not be given. Owner is rude and definitely not service oriented. I support small business and so wanted to give him a try and even a second chance. Fail! My initial encounter with Mr Hess; First thing I noticed Upon entering the store is that it is small and cluttered. Owner was talking with another, I can only assume a friend because of the personal conversation, and could not be bothered to answer any questions I had let alone ask what I was specifically looking for. I purchased elsewhere because of his lack of attention. Second encounter, made a phone call to his store hoping he could install sights on mr weapon. He didn't answer and so I began leaving a voice message explains what I was wanting to have done. As I'm finishing up the message, he picks up the phone, clearly irritated at my call by the level of his voice. He directly asked if I bought from his shop and that if I didn't buy from him to take it somewhere wise. He then ended the call before I could get a word in. Mr Hess, in my opinion, may have had a successful business back in the day but now his shop appears to be more of a hobby. I won't be going back to him ever again. read more

Love the store, selection and atmosphere. I don't think the reviews on here do Ron justice. There are signs out in front so read them and follow the rules. There's one person allowed inside at a time so if you pop your head in with another customer inside, expect to be told to wait outside. If your feathers are easily ruffled, you might not like what you find with the owner. I haven't had a single bad experience with the owner and I will definitely be coming back often. If you're looking for ammo or maybe a rifle you wouldn't find at most larger stores, Ron's is a great place to look. There's also a great selection of handguns and misc firearm related items. read more

Fully aware of the poor reviews, I still decided to drop by and pick up some ammo. I read and obeyed all the signs on the door then entered. He immediately yelled to stop right there. I complied and he asked "what the hell do you want?" He was the only one in there. I calmly stated what I was looking to buy and his retort was I obviously cannot read. I was wearing a proper mask, no hood, no phone, nothing that broke his rules. I was confused. He walked off and I exited the store. Ron is just a jackass and a waste of space. I never see anyone at his store and I pass by daily. I am happy to spend my money elsewhere. Cant wait to see this shithole close down for good! read more

I came here a little while ago looking for a new handgun. I did all my research and knew what I wanted before coming into this shop. I walked in, felt very uncomfortable with how messy it was, but decided to look around anyways. He first looked at me with this weird look... like I was criminal! I had just come from work and was wearing my paramedic uniform! He then asked me what I was looking for and I told him the specific firearm. He asked me dead in my face if I was new to buying guns because the specific gun I wanted was a piece of sh*t... excuse me?? I was so shocked that I didn't know what to say. I just walked out! His prices are outrageous and his attitude is less than stellar. How does he stay in business? Keep away!! read more

Mr. Hess was extremely helpful. Had a trailer hitch that had seen some better days. I had brought my collection to him for possible consignment. After being treated like a diseased leper, he offered his services in cleaning my trailer hitch. The man was a MASTER. Took off every bit of hard chrome. Never seen anything like it. As a gun store, this guy sucks. As a Trailer Hitch chrome remover. MASTER. read more

Terrible service. The owner is so rude. I asked about the cheapest prices on an AR 15 that he had and he said none. I then stated again what is your cheapest AR 15 then he told me the price. He told me I couldn't bring my phone in the store. He shut the door in my face while I was speaking to him. read more

Very disrespectful and inconsiderate towards customs. Really wanted this place to be a good spot but have a bad taste in mouth due to the lack of good customer service and respect for humans in general. Would recommend you got to a superior pawn and gun or freedom shooting center for a better experience. I would give this place zero stars if it was an option. read more

Decided to try out this gun-shop as I had never heard of it and saw it everyday on my way to work. Unfortunately I had an outright unprofessional experience with customer service. Walked in and was greeted with "go outside and read the door" I had missed a small sign that said only one customer was allowed inside at a time. Everyone is entitled to run their business as they like but such a condescending outburst is unacceptable. Walked right out and kept going. Will never go back and will warn all my friends to steer clear read more

I have been doing business there for about five years since Sonny guns And Pawn changes hands. Mr. Hess KNOWS his guns . I need some info I go to him get the right news not this fake news. He and I both voted for Trump . I am a one issue voter. If you really want something see him. He even has some nice bamboo fly rods but you have to ask. There is a reason this jerk is rated a 1 Star. He is absolutely rude and unprofessional. I asked him a simple question and he started bombarding me with questions that had nothing to do with what I asked him. He was very hostile towards me when I only asked him one questions very nicely. I stopped and he said I'm sorry sir but I feel like tour being very rude right now and I haven't done anything but ask a question and he said have a nice day and hung up. I hope he goes out of business and looses everything because people like this don't deserve to take hard working peoples money. Total trash!!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Rude AF staff. I asked to look at a magazine and how much it cost didnt want to give me a price and told me I've already sat down so I couldn't look at it. Also dont use them as a FFL transfer either, I can only imagine how difficult that would be. read more

Worst gun shop ever. Once I was walking into the store, i passed a window which must have been a room to one of their stock rooms. The room was FILLED from almost floor to ceiling with empty boxes. It looked as if I was watching an episode of Hoarders! So now I actually enter the building after pulling open the SCREEN door. What kind of building has you open up a screen door?!? First impression: Messy. So I'm walking around trying not to bump into anything and of course I do.( I'm only 5'6 and weigh only 145 pounds) It's just that disorderly in there. Its like taking 10 small gun pawnshops and shoving it into 1 room with everything displayed in boxes... Not shelves but frikking BOXES! And here's what really kills it: I search around the area where the gun cleaning kits are and can't find the right one for my .40 cal. I asked the personnel for help and after following him around a 500 square foot shop for about 5 min knocking boxes around, we found the one I needed. So I asked the price of it and he says $20. I told him that all other stores sell it for only $10 at regular price and even cheaper at times. He told me 'Well, life is short, do you want it or not' then walks away. WTF, really?!?! I'm definitely not going back there EVER and I warn you now not to either. read more
