I was in town for work and looked for some new places to try. This place came up in a review from another site. I love Cajun food, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I said I was blown away, that isn't an exaggeration. I tried their sampler of the Jambalaya, red beans and rice, gumbo, and their shrimp étouffée with the cheesy grits. That étouffée with the cheesy grits blew my mind. The rest of the food was good, but that first bite of the étouffée was one of the best mouthfuls I've had in a very, very long time. So much flavor! I certainly didn't expect this in Huntington, WV. I wouldn't have thought there could be a hole-in-the-wall Cajun place in WV, but this is absolutely legit. So much so, that I went back the next day to get a full portion of their shrimp étouffée and try their shrimp po'boy sandwich. Again, it was nothing short of incredible. This place is small, but it deserves a lot of attention. The owner is a man of few words, but his food is absolutely fantastic. A restaurant never hits on everything and it's up to personal tastes, but those po'boys and that étouffée are absolute winners. It's unfortunately often the case that the small restaurants have some of the best food, and that is the case here. I am in Huntington for work often, and I absolutely will visit this place every time I'm there. read more

It's the closest thing to New Orleans in WV. It's a quaint little spot in a little shopping venue east of Pullman Square in Huntington. No kitchen on site, but other than missing some "deep fried goodness" in a very few dishes, everything is always great. Yesterday we "lucked out" and they had just run out of their muffuletta sandwiches. They immediately offered to make us one fresh in a 'Po Boy bun. Food is absolutely delicious. If you like Creole or Cajun this is the place! Great service nice people. Only thing there's limited seating. So just get it to go! Do DoorDash but do get some food from here! You wont be disappointed. read more

The best po boys I've ever had!! The blackened shrimp po boy is amazing on its own, but it's definitely worth trying the huge collection of unique hot sauces they have at the counter. Got our order to go after an event in Huntington. I hadn't had the chance to eat here before so I got the Cajun food sampler. It features gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, and shrimp Étouffée ($15.99) everything was super delicious and flavorful. I'm not a huge shrimp fan, but they were well seasoned and a good texture. The grits were amazing. The gumbo was perfect on this rainy day. My husband got the Blackened Catfish and Andouille Smoked Sausage Étouffée over Cheesy Garlic Grits ($14.99) and he really liked it. The fish was large and flavorful, the sausage was tasty. And he also really loved the grits. I'm usually in town on Sunday when they are closed so this was a real treat. The two folks working were friendly and accommodating. Will definitely eat here again. read more

Delightful, new to me spot, in my college town! Love seeing new and more unique spots coming to town and not just chain restaurants. I ordered the beer battered shrimp po boy and my husband ordered the shrimp étouffée with grits. The po boy was delicious even after a good 12 min drive back to where we were staying. I'm sure it would have been even better (shrimp more crispy, had I not had a drive. My only negative was I wasn't a huge fan of the bread... it was a tad on the dry side. I sampled my husbands grits with a bit of the étouffée sauce and it was SO good! I was told carry out would take 10-15 minutes but it took a tad longer. I was ok with this since my drive took about the same as my original estimate. The staff were super nice and fun to chat with while I waited for everything to finish up. We'll definitely be back anytime we're in town visiting family/friends! read more

Stopped in at the Gumbo Stop Cafe with a friend for lunch today. This was our first time here, every was very nice and so helpful! I ordered the jambalaya and thought it was fantastic, and it was so steaming hot! My friend got the muffuletta sandwich and cheese grits and thoroughly enjoyed both. Food and service were terrific! I liked the gumbo/ it's not too spicy at all but you could add spice, and the Kentucky Butter cake combined with strawberries and cream was addictive! Cute decor too- and a superb location being right by the historical museum. read more

Excellent! Owners are from Louisiana and we're very friendly. The place is tiny and I'm reluctant to give a review because sooner rather than later they will outgrow this space. I just don't want to wait in long lines for this deliciousness. For America standards the portion was small but quite honestly that is exactly what the portion should be and it was delicious beyond measure. To be fair prices did math portion size. This is a must try if you're ever in Huntington. read more

5 Stars for food and authenticity. Giving 4 Stars due to not getting silverware, napkins, etc. Not fast food, but worth the wait for great food. We had Crawfish bread and Boudin for appetizers. Oyster Po-Boy and Shrimp Étouffée which were fresh, well seasoned and plenty for the money. Finished up with Banana Pudding for a great meal. We stopped in to Taps at Heritage for a couple of local beers to go with our meal. We will return! read more

We got 2 bowls of soup and shrimp po boy. Both soups had cold spots do to she heated the soup in microwave over rice that was warm. The shrimp Po boy was frozen shrimp she heated in the microwave it also had cold spots in the shrimp and the shrimp was not crisp it was mushy. Paying for that issues this morning. When got there the cashier was nice however the lady cooking had an attutide until a set of customers she knew came in. The Ambiance was okay there are only 4 sets of tables so a family of 3 had to sit weirdly. We were visting our daughter from college since this is a college town I expected at least one table of 4. I could have gotten over both ambience and service if the food hadn't been microwaved. read more

I rarely rarely give a place 5 stars, but this little mom and pop restaurant absolutely blew me away! Loved the small home feel! The boudin was some of the best I've ever had, the gumbo was flavorful and rich, and the customer service was top notch! I would say, my only complaint is it's a little hidden, so some better signage would be super helpful. It's tucked behind a railroad type building on the backside. For this place to be so far north, the bayou would 100% give this place a stamp if approval! read more

This is a hidden gem in Huntington and not what you would expect to find when exiting the interstate in the mountains of West Virginia. But, exit the interstate and discover the taste of New Orleans in the mountains, you will be rewarded.
