An unassuming wooden door leads to thirteen narrow steps and an unexpected gem. The food is…read morecomparable to Melbourne's best; the wine selection is wide, deep and almost entirely local; the atmosphere could not be better and would almost have you believe you'd ended up in New York or Scandinavia and perhaps best of all the wait staff are knowledgable, attentive, friendly, welcoming and; if you're lucky; might even be the owner himself. My wife described it as possibly the best meal she's ever enjoyed and I'm hard pressed to offer a counter example. Dumplings and quail were demolished for entrée followed by the incredible duck salad and burger for mains. Desert was perfection: a boysenberry and vanilla parfait. Book in advance for certain as seating is limited but do not let a trip to Bright go by without stopping by. This establishment will meet and exceed all expectations.

Eclectic place to have dinner in Bright. Charming restaurant…read moredecor reveals itself as you go down 13 steps into an old world cellar. Its tight and compact and thats why you have to book to get a seat here. Though the guys have tried hard to make sure you don't feel crowded at your table. The food is a mix of European with latin influences and they have a really good and interesting wine list. Its small, though its got a really good vibe about it.

What an amazing find in Bright! We were in town for the weekend to see the autumn leaves and I…read morepopped online to see if there were any vegan options in town. I wasn't expecting much, so I was quite surprised to find that Bright is home to What You Eat, an all-vegetarian cafe with heaps of vegan options. When we walked in, I knew right away I would like the place. It has a light, airy, cheerful atmosphere, and the place was packed so I knew the food would be good. I splurged. I had a liquid gold turmeric latte, the vegan schnitzel parmigiana (made with Bio-Cheese), and a vegan cookie for dessert. My boyfriend had the house-made vegetable and barley broth with garlic toast. Both of our mains were on the "lunch specials" menu and not on the regular menu, so I'm not sure how often you can actually order them, but both were DELICIOUS. My parma was easily the best vegan parma I've ever had (much better than the one at the Cornish Arms in Melbourne), and my boyfriend's barley and veggie soup was really hearty and tasty as well. Price-wise, it did seem a little on the expensive side, but given this is a country town and ingredients like Bio-cheese are not readily available, I can understand the pricing. Service was super-friendly even though the place was packed for the autumn festival. Highly recommend if you're in Bright and looking for a great place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Or even just coffee!

Plain basic cafe/bistro fit out. Little to please the eye here. The cafe has a nice open air area…read moreout the back which provides a view of the river albeit with a car park prominently in the foreground. This might be controversial but the establishment has a slightly bogan air to it. It's an accurate observation much as I love my fellow man and a bit of lowbrow now and then. The eight people at the table next to us weren't so much talking as shouting at each other. We were mystified by the behaviour which was irritating. This place wasn't my choice and I was thinking rather dimly of it before our ordered charcuterie board arrived at the table. This near eradicated any negative thoughts I had about the place. The board was very nicely composed. Every single item on the board was as fresh as a daisy, dancing with flavour and lovely on the palate. The size was perfect too. Spot on for two people who weren't ravenously hungry. I arrived with a cynical outlook, we left very happy. It's a 3.5.

Consequently, tables were sitting there with leftover dishes still on them, uncollected. We had to pick a table that hadn't been cleared and push the dirty dishes to the side. The food itself was really nice - we shared a burger and a beetroot salad, both of which were generous and tasty. The position is lovely, overlooking a creek. Just avoid the busier times and you'll be well looked after here.
