I'm pretty averse to walking anywhere, but the journey to Guitar Guitar is always well worth it from Five Ways' railway station. Although it's considerably smaller than PMT, the quality and range of high quality guitars and basses from Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker and Gretsch is extremely impressive. Entry level and beginners are also represented with a wide range of Squire, Epiphone, Yamaha and many more also.
Despite its size, Guitar Guitar also offers what I believe to be the best range of effects pedals - besides all the Boss staples, a wide variety of oddities and rarities sit nearby the till and you can easily stare away for a long time. Unlike Fair Deal, you can also buy individual strings which is essential should one snap during a bedroom freakout.
Guitar Guitar's real strength over Fair Deal and PMT however is its staff: Friendly, chatty and extremely knowledgable, I have always found every employee to be more than approachable - This is especially useful in a musical instrument shop where you can sometimes feel too intimidated by snarky, High Fidelity-esque snobbery to ask what may seem like a stupid question or to try something out.
Prices are very competitive too: Although I love an internet bargain, I am going to buy myself a new Fender Jazz Bass from Guitar Guitar for a very competitive £523 (including a discount through Fender's rebate scheme), not just because it's a good price, but because I feel I owe it to the awesome guys who put up with me playing the same annoying licks every time I visit. read more
