Personality: Legendary. As good as it gets--that's right! Rex is more than just the real deal, he's the bee's knees, the cat's pajama's...heck, he makes the Fonz from Happy Days looks sluggish (and that's saying a lot. No one is more cool than the Fonz). Not only does he offer, and provide, some of the most reasonable prices for private, in-home lessons (that's right, people. He drives right up to your front door.), but he goes, far above and beyond to give you the best value for your dollar. Never have I had a teacher that would arrive early to lessons, AND, stay a good deal later to make sure that I understood the material, without charging anything extra for his time. Great deal. Great man. Very funny/personable. Extremely versatile: Old or young, he can accommodate to all and every age. Cost: 150 dollars gets you two full-hour private, in-home lessons, a free instructional book (written by Rex, himself), and complete access to the unique guitar-mind of Rex Bell (Value = Priceless). Credentials: Rex has been playing guitar, for, what seems to be, an eternity. Jazz, rock, punk, alternative, classical. You name it: the chord, the song, the style, and he can play it to perfection. He's also played with some pretty big names as well (just ask him and he'll tell you some stories). By far, the best, most qualified, music teacher I've ever had. My personal experience: I've been with an array of different guitar teachers, without a doubt in my mind I can say that Rex understands me better than any other. When you can connect with someone on a personal level, and come to a common understanding about how each individual works, it is so much easier to be able to communicate. He knows how to connect and understand anyone. Good communication creates a better learning environment. I've told him what I want to become (and believe me, my expectations are almost insatiable), and he's shown me the way. In the months that I've been taking lessons with him, I've become more skilled, more enthusiastic, and more knowledgeable about guitar than I have with any other. My Commendation: He's the best. I have no complaints or regrets. Plain and simple: you would be silly to go with any other teacher. read more

Hi! I was Rex's student about 2 years ago. By that time, I was learning how to play guitar by myself. Being so new to the art, it was overwhelming where to start in terms of technique (scales, chords, keys...). My Dad (who is still a student of his) decided to try him out in hopes it could help his and my playing. When we sat down, he was instantly warm and welcoming, displayed true skill of the instrument, and demonstrated the building blocks needed to play guitar. In about 3 months, I was able to not only gain an understanding of music, but also be able to write my own material (which was my goal from the start). After about 6 months since our first lesson, I went away to college. I joined a band instantly and after some time and practice, I started playing gigs around town (I even got paid too). Now, in the present and having played guitar for a little under 3 years, I am currently recording, performing, writing, and learning music. I even participated in a world record attempt for longest continuous concert (results are still getting processed). My point is that without Rex, it would have been much more difficult to achieve my goals of music and I'm grateful for that. I still keep in contact with him today and we still jam once in a while. If you want someone to teach you how to play guitar and the building blocks of music (instead of just learning on how to play a few songs), then he's the man. read more

As an amateur guitar player, I spent many hours searching for the right teacher, learning techniques and resources to speed up my learning making my way through the overwhelming choices found online! I am glad to have found Rex who is not only an accomplished musician but a patient & experienced teacher whose methods have considerably helped to keep myself motivated & on-track while striving to learn to play guitar balancing job & other day-to-day activities. For the sake of like-minded guitar enthusiasts I will pen down/ share some key aspects of Rex's teaching methods I found really helpful here: 1. A comprehensive lesson plan customized to suit individual needs/skill level. 2. A summary of each lesson/class sent out to the student as an email attachment including reviews for the past sessions. 3. A consistent practice routine which is really key for getting results. 4. Reading skills enhancement-The Method books chosen have helped me lot and makes learning reading music simpler and less daunting! In short, Rex is a highly recommended guitar teacher! I would advise you to take an introductory lesson with him as the first step in your guitar learning journey! Good luck!! read more

I have been taking ukulele lessons with Rex for 2 months now. I was a complete beginner at first. I never took a music class in school and had no idea where to start. Rex gave me a couple of books right away and told me the best way to begin. After 2 months of studying with Rex, I have learned to read staff notation, move-able chords and a couple of scales. My sense of rhythm is not very developed, but Rex is very patient and supportive. He is always full of praise for the lessons I have learned, and full of encouragement for the lessons I struggle with. Having Rex come to my house is amazingly convenient. He always shows up a few minutes early to make sure we maximize our time together. Rex is very respectful of my time and my goals. I would highly recommend Rex to any of my friends looking to learn how to play guitar (or ukulele). He is so talented, it is amazing to watch him play. You can help but have a little bit of his confidence rub off on you and inspire you to keep practicing. read more

Let me start by saying... excellent excellent excellent! My son and I have been searching for a guitar lesson for a few years. It took so long because I was a bit scared of the commitment. I am a busy working mom..wife..etc. However, Rex contacted me right away and it just took off from there! We've only had 3 lessons thus far (first lesson was even complimentary!) and my son and I are already playing songs..chords read.. and more than anything- my son is very motivated (he's 8 years young *wiNk*). My husband and I have been serving in a Contemporary Christian band for 15 years + and even with the experience, Rex knew just where to give us that extra boost! How professional is that? Just tonight, my husband decided to start his long lost bass lessons with Rex as well! Pretty soon, the whole family is going to learn from Rex! LOL! Thank you, Rex! read more

I've been taking guitar lessons with Rex for only a month, and started as a complete beginner on this instrument. I'm a big music lover though, and play the piano so I've spent years working with a number of music teachers. From that experience, I'd have to say that Rex is the best I've had. Rex is certainly an incredible musician, but most instructors can make that claim. What really sets him apart is that he has the rare gift of knowing how to teach - how to convey the information from his brain to the student's fingers. He somehow knows how to cut through the challenges and complexity, and to convey just what's needed to rapidly progress. I'm just starting, but am far ahead of where I expected to be at this point, and working with Rex makes me want to practice and improve. I'd recommend him with the highest possible enthusiasm. read more

Although I don't take lessons, my 10 year old niece does, and I've visited my sister's house a couple times when she was having a lesson. We didn't disturb them, but from the way they interacted and how Rex (the instructor) listened and taught her, I was impressed. She's learned a lot from Rex and has become so engrossed with her guitar. She'll even play for me when I come out to visit sometimes. My sister said private lessons can be a little expensive, but with Rex, it's totally worth it. Plus, he comes to your house. That's also really cool. I figured I'd write up a review because of how impressed I was. If I had a kid, he/she would definitely be taking lessons with Rex (if they were interested in the guitar, of course). read more

I have been taking lessons from Rex Bell for a little over a year and have been very happy with the progress I have made. I had a little background (self-taught in college) when I started but no formal training. I wanted to concentrate on guitar basics, which Rex has done, while at the same time introducing some simple arrangements to keep it interesting. He brings a very positive attitude to our lessons and works hard to keep me motivated as I am easily frustrated. Rex has an extensive background in the music industry and has been able to effectively speak to any questions I have brought up. I highly recommend him as a teacher. An added bonus is that Rex comes directly to your home for the lessons. read more

Rex Bell, In two lessons from Rex I now feel like I can play the banjo, not like Rex can, but I know that with Rex teaching me I will be a good banjo player. I've been trying to play for months reading books and practicing but just couldn't make it work. I thought that maybe 70 was to old to learn but Rex proved to me that you are never to old or to young to learn if you want to. Rex is a excellent teacher and I would recommend him to anyone who wanted to learn to play a stringed instrument or any other type of instrument . The way he teaches makes it easy to learn and also makes you want to learn and it's nice to have him come to your house and he is always on time. Rex Bell......Excellent teacher. read more

Rex is a great guitar teacher. I have been taking lessons with Rex for the last 12 months, a gift from my wife who couldn't bear listening to me hammering out the same chords all the time. I was finding it really hard to move from a basic level of guitar and Rex's method's has helped me to push through that by giving me the building blocks that I need to push through. I was initially sceptical of the Skype of the Skype method but I am totally converted now, there is no downside to the method, ti saves time and Rex is always available for one off questions. He's an awesome teacher and he makes the hard parts incredibly fun. read more

I've been taking lessons from Rex for almost three months and came into them basically as a beginner. He's been a great teacher and understands my busy college/ work schedule. I went into these lessons knowing I could only take a handful, but what he has given me in that time is enough for me to keep pushing my abilities as a guitar player long after we finish our lessons together. He's very kind and creates a relaxed atmosphere for the lessons which makes them enjoyable. I hope that one day down the line I can take lessons from Rex again and pick up where we left off. read more

Rex is one of the best guitar teachers I've ever had. He makes learning new techniques easy and enjoyable. He's a real comedian, too. He's always making jokes about himself, making me laugh and chuckle. He's really laid-back, but also serious about his work and about teaching me. Also, he just comes to my house instead of my parents dropping me off at a house or facility. It's a big relief for my parents, who both work. I think Rex is an ideal teacher for any age, be it an elementary kid to an adult in his/her 50's. He knows how to rock out, and he rocks in general! read more

Rex Bell is by far the most knowledgable musician I have ever met - and I studied accordian for 5 years as a boy. Rex is extremely experienced and effective at instruction and relates wonderfully to youngsters and teenagers - probabaly because he was a featured guitar player with pop music pros like Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Paul Simon. Rex's passion and unlimited energy make it big fun to learn, study, and progress. PLUS -he comes to us! on our schedule - a father and son lesson - for the price of one! Don't miss this opportunity to learn from Rex..... read more

Rex is the best! I noodled around on the guitar for years but really never made it very far. I've been taking lessons from him for almost a year now and I'm really pleased with the progress I've been making since then. In addition to working with standard student materials, Rex also provides custom arrangements that are both challenging and fun to play. Rex is easy to get along with and I always look forward to our sessions together. Oh, and on top of everything else, he also comes to your house - how cool is that for convenience? read more

I've been taking lessons from Rex for about 8 months and can't believe how much better my skills and confidence have gotten. What I really like about taking lessons from Rex is that he understands how busy my work life is and he knows how challenging it is to carve out time for practice. Because of his enthusiasm and energy and I look forward to our lessons and even better, his taste in music is as eclectic as mine. Finally learning how to read and getting off of tabs!!! I highly recommend. read more

Rex is a great guitar teacher with lots of experience and a good person, he started teaching my 13 year old son few months ago. my son has made lot of progress since then. One more thing about Rex is he never watches the clock, he is highly committed guitar teacher and in the initial classes he spent more than the class duration to make sure the objectives of the class are met. read more
