Daddy's Junky Music

Daddy's Junky Music

When Daddy's first opened, it was a fantastic music shop. While I typically avoid chain stores, the…read morecustomer service and selection (especially for used gear) at Daddy's was phenomenal. In the past year or so, however, everything changed. If you order something from another store for pickup, they never contact you to let you know if it's in and they don't respond to emails. In-store service is even worse. I wanted to buy a pedal once and there were three people behind the counter and no one could be bothered to help me. I stood at the counter for 20 minutes along with another customer and we were just ignored. We both ended up just walking out. I'm pretty sure that the store is under new management, and whoever that is should be fired. Daddy's is not the store it once was and I avoid it whenever possible now.

I went in to trade a banjo for a guitar they had advertised in their catalog. They had the guitar,…read moreso a good start. When I went up to do the trade I found there were 2 people working, and a pretty big crowd waiting for service. I brought my instrument for a trade and was told it would take a few minutes. Over an hour later, after checking out and helping about 20 people that came in after me, they got back to me. They had the gaul to offer me $200, for an instrument that sells for $530 (plus $50 for a case). These people are crooks, don't waste your time, go to ebay or craigslist. While I was there they were duping some poor couple into buying a couple of low end seconds acoustics as well, saying how wonderful they sounded, and heaping a ton of extra stuff on them at the same time. If you shop there, do your research in advance, and don't bring in your used gear.

Vermont Violins - A collection of violins in store

Any musician (mostly string players) should count themselves lucky to have this place around. I got…read moremy first violin here when I was 7, and I've been a dedicated customer ever since. While their selection isn't as broad as most websites or larger stores, they're always happy to order stuff if you ask. Most of the people who work there are musicians themselves and can help you with just about anything, whether you're a beginner or an experienced player. I went in with my mom a few years ago when she was buying me some sheet music for my birthday. The woman behind the counter heard us mention the word "birthday", and we left the store with several free tote bags in hand. The owners (Oren and Kathy) are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. They will set up times where you can try out bows and instruments in the shop and help you select what you want/need. They can help with all levels of players, especially beginners. Oren lent me a very nice viola for a few weeks when I had a solo concert and needed something with a better sound, and I spent several hours in their Burlington shop (just one of their other locations) with Kathy one afternoon trying out new violas... she was happy to put up with my indecisiveness, get sheet music for me to play, play the violas that I liked so that I could hear them, and make lots of suggestions (if I remember correctly, she studied the viola at Juilliard). If you have high-end instruments, you may be better off going to Boston, New York, or Montreal for repairs and whatnot related to your instrument, as they have more skilled luthiers with more experience with high-quality instruments. Some of my friends have complained about the selection of instruments that they have and the quality of bow rehairs that they've had done, but those aren't reasons to ignore VT Violins. But, for a little violin shop in Northern Vermont, they do a fantastic job. Their prices are reasonable for the merchandise they sell. It's a little more expensive than the same items from online stores, but I like to buy from them whenever possible, as they are an amazing local business.

I have been visiting/supporting Vermont Violin for over 4 years and always dealt with a front desk person who were pleasant and accommodating to my needs (5 stars), however on this day I had a chance to meet the owner and she was not nice, actually unprofessional. The problem My wife visited Vermont Violins to return back our violin and accidently left our contract at the store, so I visited the store to grab the contract that was accidentally left by my wife. You would think it would be an easy thing.. was I wrong. Apparently, since we "don't have a contract" with the Vermont Violin e.g. purchased our latest violin from them we are not allowed to get a printed version of a contract we accidently left at the shop?? Even though we have a $500 credit. The outcome - She wasn't going to print a contract. - Despite my professional approach, the owner spoke to me very rudely - I was told to leave bluntly. I was shocked. Also, for the sake of conversation, we received an email that the store was opened however they requested a call before arriving due to COVID-19. Since I wasn't picking up a violin I was told to leave. Final thoughts I just can't excuse bad behaviour especially when it comes to our hard earn money. I understand if she might have been overwhelmed, but that does not excuse her response to me. Even a follow up call would have been appreciated to say "hey sorry with how everything happened and how can we help" Suggestions for violinist and things we learned: 1. The credit you have earned can only be used for a violin purchase not for accessories, we had to learn that the hard way. 2. Do your research online, there are much cheaper solutions. I gave a 2 star because their products and I know the front desk people are hard workers and have been amazing to our family and others, however on that day I was humiliated by the owner and didn't deserve that treatment.

The Rack Warehouse - That said it would be close and they were right. It turned out to be a perfect fit.

My local bike shop, which has always been very good to me, quoted me $599.99 for a Thule bike rack…read more I asked if they could match or at least come down a tiny bit to the Rebox price that RackWarehouse had of $509.99. They said the best they could do is $579.99 plus tax and a $20 assembly fee. My local bike shop warned me not to buy the rebox bike rack saying it was "refurbished" and "missing parts" and "had no warranty". I quickly pointed out that the RackWarehouse.com site said it was BRAND NEW and came with the FULL MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. With that the sales guy at my local store walked away. Ok. Well, I figured, either way I'm not buying it from you. Shame too because they've always been top notch for matching prices, great quality and an amazing service shop. I called RackWarehouse.com. They explained that sometimes the boxes get so mishandled by the original delivery people when it comes from Thule that they can't change shipping it out to a customer that way and have to rebox it. They even said my local shop likely gets them with damaged boxes but if they have a mandatory assembly fee then no customer would ever know it. He told me the rack was brand new, had a full warranty, was never refurbished and could be returned if I was in any was dissatisfied. Then he went on to say he said he could also recommend some other reputable web sites he's used for items they don't stock to do a price comparison on the rack if I wasn't comfortable using them after what my local store told me. I mean honestly, how many places would send a customer to a different site just to keep them satisfied? I live in Long Island, NY, ordered the REBOXED rack that day, and it came from Vermont the next day. As stated on the site ground S&H is free but there was a $20 fee because it was an oversized item plus $509.99 for the rack and NO sales tax. $529.99 total!! It's BRAND NEW and was SO well packaged I had trouble getting the box and all of its protective cardboard off it. The video on the RackWarehouse.com site was great! Assembled and installed it in an hour! Thanks again RackWarehouse.com - you definitely have a lifetime customer in me!
