I went to Guitar Center to purchase a guitar. I had been putting it off for a long time and really thought I could use a pro help me pick a guitar out. I got inside and went straight back to the acoustic section because those always caught my musical attention. I was in the room for a while and then I asked one of the guys working if he could help me with picking out a guitar. Mike was exceptional in his knowledge of acoustic guitars from wood types to brand subtleties. I was in with a decent budget since I really wanted a guitar that I could play for a long time. Mike's service and attention to the customer really helped my purchase, I ended up purchasing a Martin retailing at $1,459(with case and some accessories). Overall spent more than I came planning but I was shown the value and was treated with great service! Would recommend! -Shiny read more

First off, I am not sure why Yelp says I am in Burnsville, but, "whatever." I have had only one encounter with Guitar Center in Roseville and all in all it was positive. I had just been "restructured" by my employer and in lieu of some cash owed me, they gave me a gift card to either Guitar Center or Olive Garden. Duh, a no brainer. Viewing the website, in North Carolina there happened to be an Inspired By Gibson Epiphone J-200 12 string used, excellent condition. From the photo, it looked like it could be first cousin to my own Gibson J-200 I bought back in 1968. I had to have it. I immediately signed up to Guitar Center, had them order and ship the guitar to the Roseville store. It was there in a matter of days. With the gift card and some extra cash it was mine. I am not looking at any guarantee for Guitar Center. Their obligation was only to get the instrument delivered to me as shown in the photos. They performed that obligation without incident. I did ask on the way out how much for a 12 string set up. I was told right off the bat $200. Really GC, now I know where you really make your money, lol. I do buy my miscellaneous picks, strings, etc. from the local mom and pop stores but every once in a while Guitar Center will come up with a winner. 20240130 Had an issue with billing for lessons; I'll preface this with this ultimately being due to a lack of understanding on my behalf. After calling the lessons department, I was transferred to Ariel (the store manager). I almost feel embarrassed for how complicated the 'fixing' of the issue became, but Ariel helped me out when I needed it, and long story short I get to keep attending lessons. One of those situations where 'Someone didn't have to, but did' in a positive way and I'm appreciative. Also, I have purchased gear from here before and found excellent price points for cymbals, shells, etc. Look for sales on the export kits if you're a drummer! read more

RE: Guitar Maintenance As usual, I bring in my old Fender Strat when my ear tells me it's time for their Platinum Setup again. When I enter I am greeted and immediately cared for as I checkin my guitar. And the best part: their expert technician Jim has my instrument ready for pickup within a couple days. And it sounds like new and looks like new. I pay a bit extra for the best strings too. This service is so expertly accomplished and darned well worth it. Boy has this place gone downhill. I usually stop in to browse once or twice a year when in the area when I look for used gear or deals. This will be my last though. Drum area had sticks and packing materials all over the floor. Most of the stick racks were empty. The cymbals/practice room had a 1/4" dust on everything. Racks all over were empty or had beat up/returned/dusty products on them. Went to the restroom and I've seen neighborhood convenience stores with cleaner bathrooms. Gross. read more

I was at this location in June (2021) because I couldn't find elixir strings anywhere due to a supply chain issue. We live 5 hours north of this location and were headed home, decided to walk in, grab strings, get back on 35 and head north. I told my wife I'd be super quick. I walked in, found the elusive elixirs I needed, set them in the counter and there were two staff sitting there BS-ing about how live shows aren't what they used to be.... I waited and waited. They would stop chatting, acknowledge me, and say "one second boss" and keep chatting. Then acknowledged me again and said "almost ready for you chief!" They ended the conversation by one employee saying "cool bro, well I'm gonna go in break then." After waiting for about 7 minutes, just looking around while they had their chat, another customer jumps in and asks "can you get that PRS down for me? It's a bit high" the employee immediately jumped to help with the PRS guy. Left me standing there. He did say "I'll be right back to finish up with you ok boss?" I've now been in the store 15 minutes for what should have been and in and out. My wife and 5 kids are in the vehicle debating going over to dicks sporting goods... The employee comes back, does some price checking on his computer, gives me a head nod, goes back to the PRS guy. I take my strings to each desk in the building and find no shortage of staff. But nobody engaged enough to check me out. Was I assertive? Absolutely. Did they seem like I was a priority? Nope. My total sale would have only been about $53 and it must've not been a BIG enough priority. I set the strings down on the main desk so they would notice that the string guy walked out. And I left. Total of 27 minutes (yeah, because my wife was definitely taking notice of the length of time) and bought nothing. I also assume the employee came back to the desk and probably saw the strings, dumbfounded and said "huh, I wonder how these got left here!" I vowed to never go back there. The above story is 110% accurate. Fast forward to Saturday night, 7:15pm Feb 26th. I was once again in the Roseville area and needed items for immediate use and I could not wait around for shipping. I decided to give GC a second chance. I wish I hadn't. I needed a 22" drum head and a direct box. That's it. Another in and out. But the staff was chatting away with customers, hearing their stories, smiling and nodding at them, acknowledging that I was ready to check out and once again was called "chief" "boss" "pal" "bud" and perhaps a "yeah, you got it my guy" once or twice. It took 35 minutes. I was late for a dinner meet up and brewery tour. I told my wife and friends this would be a fast "in and out" visit. She laughed. She was right... I'm wondering if this is sales tactic? Because in my boredom I grabbed some drum mutes... didn't need them at the moment. But eventually I might. Then in my boredom I grabbed extra strings (those elixirs I needed back in June), then some picks, drumsticks... a $142 purchase turned into a $290 purchase. So, if it's a sales tactic; "ignore the customer and perhaps they will buy more" then touché. It worked. The employees need to get a grip on reality. They sat around putting their ego before the customer. I'm sure you're a great musician in a great band just waiting to get signed on a local label and be the next Motion City Soundtrack... but in the meantime, you've got a day job and you're making guitar center bad. Really really bad. Stop calling me boss and chief and pall and bud and then walking away for a smoke break while I'm set to check out (actually happened). If somebody says "I'm in a rush and need to get this and go" perhaps respond in a similar manner and help get that customer on the road. Guitar center was DEAD on Saturday night. Parking lot was nearly empty. I almost assumed they were closed.... Zero customer service. I'm wildly dissatisfied. I will just keep using online stores and hope I don't need things again in which I cannot wait for shipping. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars at GC in my life over the years. I'll just stick with Sweetwater. They seem to care. read more

I really love this guitar center location mainly because of the excellent customer service and knowledgeable representatives. Kevin, one of the managers at the store, was so helpful in guiding me on what audio interface to buy as well as studio speakers. He was knowledgeable on all of the music equipment and had in-depth advice that was extremely useful for me making a decision. Highly recommend this Guitar Center location!!!! read more

I bought an Alvarez Yairi acoustic six string in 1989. I was really surprised to see it there. Haven't been back since. I'd ordered a classical guitar and case online. Planned to get some additional stuff. They don't have any straps for classical guitar. And they don't have any strings for classical guitar. I looked around a bit as I am planning to buy a 12 string in the near future. I know what I want and they didn't even have anything for me to try. I guess I am satisfied with the online purchase. But the store in Roseville, MN just didn't have anything I needed. Too bad. They could have gotten me to lay down $3k for the right 12 string and they could have sold me a lot of stuff to go with my new nylon string beauty. read more

Stopped in on Jan 2nd for some drum equipment and holy awful experience. There was one, yes one person in front of me. He was there doing some sort of "trade in/trade up" deal that an associate had set up 4 him sometime recently. Anyways, it took the guy working behind the counter a good 10 mins to even check to see where this customer's' equipment was shipped to. When he finally saw it was in the store, he holds up his hand and says, "it's in the back". So u can guess... Another 5 mins of searching and back he comes with the item from the back. He then spends another 10 minutes now trying to figure out how to ring up this "trade in/up" deal. Meanwhile, another person shows up and appears to just want to buy a pack of sticks. Finally, the counter guy asks the manager to come help him with the trade in/up deal. The manager works some magic and then walks past myself and the other customer. Says nothing.... Just walks by. Well, then this guy STILL can't figure out how to complete what he needs for another 15 minutes. By now two more people show up with their kid hitting every random drum thing she can reach.... So the manager is called again, works more quick magic and finally 40 mins after I got there, the associate finally rings this guy up. So during my wait, on the second manager visit the counter guy asks me if he can help me. I tell him which two items I want (that unfortunately I can't get without an associate helping) and he got one of the items but then the manager was done, so back to helping/completing the first customers' transaction. Besides that, he never once said sorry for the wait. Never once asked for someone from another area to help. To ice this cake, he apologizes to the customer for how long he took. But to me for waiting patiently? Any offer of like 10% - 15% off for me waiting all that time? NOPE... And that is why I'm posting this long story. I am cool and understanding that he may have been newer or never rung up a "trade in/up", but to not acknowledge that to any of the next customers is an epic customer service failure. And the manager and other associates seeing that there several of us waiting and not jumping in to help, or the associate not asking for help - help until he was clear of customers not just help with one step of a process was another level of failure. I spent $500+and the ONLY reason I didn't leave and go to another GC location was I was meeting friends for dinner nearby. I am looking to buy another $2k in equipment in the next few months, and it definitely not be from this GC location. read more

My husband and I went in this Sunday with every intention on picking up a guitar that we saw online. It was up high so we waited for someone to be able to help us get it down so he could try it out. We waited 20 minutes desperately looking at the employees waiting for them to help us. We never got as much as a hello from a single employee. Guitar Center used to be a credible shop for moderate level guitar (and pro audio) gear, but since they were bought out they offer nothing but inflated prices and egos. The brief conversation I had last time I walked into the Roseville, MN store sums up the Guitar Center experience. "We don't carry the Gibson version in store anymore, but you might as well just get the Epiphone version. It looks the same and costs almost $2,000 less." A complete lack of understanding of what an instrument is and the difference in quality or different brands and price ranges. They are perfect for the Guitar Hero player, but lack anything to interest someone who plays an actual guitar. read more

I bought a guitar here a couple months ago and just got around to going to lessons. I'm a beginner so I really trusted the workers in store to help me find something nice. I was completely taken advantage of unfortunately. When I eventually went to my lesson there were three things noticeably wrong to the trained ears and eyes of my instructor which was the neck was warped, the frets were sharp on the ends of the neck? not properly ground down i'm not sure. Also there was something wrong with one of the E strings that was not an easy fix... again I don't know much about guitars, but it was enough that when I asked 3 experts I was told I was taken advantage of from my lack of knowledge. I called back and they did listen and try to help, but I paid cash that day and had trusted (more than I should) so I didn't really think too much about it. I sent them a picture and they said the recognized that it was one of their guitars immediately. I told them I could tell them the exact day I bought it but they complained they would have to look through all the purchases that day and wouldn't want to do that. They asked me to then call the specifically the guitar brand company to get it fix because they didn't want to deal with it further at that point. If you know what you are looking for you may be fine, but I would be wary at trusting the people here to help you. read more

I'm just getting back into playing after about a 10 year hiatus, and I need a new guitar and amp. I've been through this process plenty of times in the past, and it can be overwhelming to try to narrow down to exactly what you want. Well, after a TON of online research, I narrowed down to a 2019 Les Paul Studio in either Wine or BBQ Burst. After checking a bunch of places' online inventory, I discovered that this Guitar Center location had the BBQ burst in stock. All that was left was seeing how it played, and I was ready come home with it. I went in on a Saturday morning, and it was a lot quieter than I anticipated -- no loud GnR riffs playing; just a handful of people milling about and checking out the inventory. I went right to the Les Paul wall, found the one I was looking for, then started looking for someone to get it down off the high rack so I could test it out. I waited. And waited. I looked for anyone with a GC shirt, but only saw the two register workers and the guy behind the repair counter. 15 minutes went by without seeing a single employee come through the section. There were a few other Les Paul Studios that were within reach, but those were on locking hangers, so I couldn't even noodle around on an alternate while I waited. I went and stood over by the registers trying to get the attention of one of those workers, but they continued to sell packs of strings and guitar cables to person after person. I even made eye contact with one, but he answered the phone when the intercom announced that there was a call for Guitars on the line, then went back to the person he was checking out. Frustrated, I ended up leaving after 20 minutes. Only afterwards did I realize that I probably could have called their phone number and asked for someone to help me. It just doesn't feel like that should have been necessary, though. I went in ready to buy a guitar and left feeling frustrated and discouraged. Maybe margins are better on the strings and cables? Even if that's the case, it blows my mind that they'll take time to answer calls instead of helping someone who came into the store with a goal in mind. Sure, there are other guitar stores in the Twin Cities. But the catch is that none of them have the selection Guitar Center does, or the online tools to let you look up exactly what's in stock. Today should have been a really exciting day, but it ended up casting a dark shadow over my first trip to Guitar Center in a decade. read more

Guitar Center does a pretty good job as a music store... I wish I could give half stars, as it's 3 1/2 stars, really... Their prices are pretty damn good, and they do have a very wide selection of gear... The things I would fault Guitar Center on would be the constant beating of drums (usually done by 11 yr. olds who can't play anything remotely rhythmic) and playing of guitars (usually done by angst riddled 17 yr olds with black hair and a love of barre chords)... Obvioulsy, this is something i think Guitar Center employees hate as well... I feel sorry for them having to listen to it all day... G.C. also has always seemed a bit disorganized to me... I guess it's kinda "rock" of them to be disorganized, but it can be a bit difficult to find something.... but, meh... Also, I do enjoy small locally run guitar shops more... Especially ones that have used gear... G.C. rarely has used gear, and if they do, it's usually a bit over priced... I'd recommend Guitar Center if you're looking for a brand new piece of equipment... They've got really good prices and selection... If your looking for used or vintage stuff, not the place to go... read more

They have great deals and even rental. If you needed something for the night. You can also buy and sell used equipment that has been checked before reselling. Plenty of parking. Guitar Center is a musician's heaven. One can find several different brands of music instruments, peripherals and accessories all under one roof. They sell guitars, drum sets, keyboards, DJ gear, microphones, amplifiers/speakers, software and a whole bunch of other things that musicians use on a daily basis. The prices are comparable to internet prices. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. read more

The Roseville Guitar Center didn't have any of the bad attitude I was prepared for when I went there. I've only been taking guitar lessons for a little while so I'm not a major guitar buff, and I'm comfortable with that fact for the most part-but I get a little uncomfortable when I need to go make an equipment purchase. I have been to other music supply shops that focus on guitars in the past and the staff has been aloof or not very helpful. These guys found what I wanted and I was in and out in a jiffy. There was no snide inquiry, no upsale attempts, no raised eyebrows. There was nothing but quick and friendly assistance, and thank goodness for that because frankly, I couldn't read my guitar instructor's handwriting and they knew exactly what he had wanted me to purchase. The selection of guitar accessories and various kinds of guitars was huge! I didn't stay long to check them out, though. read more

Let's be honest, if given the choice I would venture into a locally owned music shop (and I often do) but there are times when you just need to go to the Wal Mart of music stores. They have a huge selection with something in most price ranges. The staff can be hit or miss...you often get the obligatory "dude that's a sweet amp" but you just as often you find someone knowledgeable who can help you find the right tool for the job. read more

I visited Guitar Center (Maple Grove, MN) today and I was mortified, the experience was scary and embarrassing. Having previously purchased an expensive equipment, I went to the store to use my Reward Points and waited in line for about 30 minutes, finally I reached the rep behind the counter. His name was Marky M, extremely rude, obnoxious and immature, and he made no apology for the wait. First Marky attempted to sell me product warranty, I allowed him to finished explaining the process and details, then I kindly informed Marky that I was not interested and would not be buying warranty. Marky immediately became agitated and asked: "May I know why you are not interested in this warranty?" I explained to Marky that I usually take great care and historically; I have never had to replace things because of damage. Marky continued to be agitated and informed me that he was also a very careful person and he breaks stuff, he continued to argue about product breakage even though I had informed him that I was not interested. When I did not accept the warranty Marky attempted to sell me, he said: "I am not sure where your hostility is coming from." Even though I was calm the whole time and I am always a calm and non-confrontational. I left the store because Marky was extremely rude, had no sense of humor and appeared as a complete narcissist. I was concern he was going to jump from behind the counter and hit me. Because even when I attempted to calm him by asking him about a TV show, he responded. "TV is Garbage." Who says that to a customer? After leaving the store I called to complain and spoke to Phil the manager, which was a waste of time. Phil explained that the incident did not reflect the Marky he knows and maybe it was a misunderstanding. I expected Phil to say: "We are very sorry and Marky extends his apology, he is very sorry." Instead, Phil makes excuses. "That's not the Marky I know." Sure, no one suspected Ted Bundy as a serial Killer because that behavior did not represent the person they knew. Just because you see something different that does not mean the behavior does not exists. I will never go to another Guitar Center store and what happened to me exemplifies why most people prefer to shop online. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had read more

Went in looking for one simple item. The staff were busy with other customers. I was asked by one salesperson what I needed. Told him the info. He said he needed to finish with another customer and would get to me. The other customer told the salesperson it was OK to help other customers while he looked at some stuff. This Guitar Center has a great location, close enough to the Roseville mall that you can walk over and check out their selection. Store is large and has just about everything an average musician could want. While I've only made a few small purchases here (strings and a couple reeds), I did accompany a friend when he decided to purchase an acoustic guitar. They had a room devoted specifically to acoustics, and a staff member on-hand to answer questions and talk about price points. Customer service was great. Only thing which bothered me was a few unexplained markups on products - normally, you can expect Musicians Friend to have roughly the same prices, but sometimes Guitar Center comes out substantially higher in price on the same products. Overall, great place, and I'd still recommend it. read more

If they were serious about instruments, they wouldn't have music blaring out loudly to keep you from evaluating the instruments. For that reason alone, I think one is better off elsewhere. When buying a guitar, you need to play it and learn it's aspects on delivering what you need from the instrument in question. A nice paint job can hide a horrible instrument. Take the time to find out about it for yourself. Salesmen are there to make money. I've found better prices elsewhere as well, but most prices are pretty monopolized. read more

went there to look for the right guitar size for myself because it's hard for me to learn on my boyfriends guitar. the employee was overall helpful but kind of ignored what we were saying and jammed pretty loudly and obnoxiously for about 10-15 minutes. we didn't care to look at an acoustic with a pick up but he brushed us off and turned on the amp anyway. he made some comments about our skill set as well. he also mentioned about 5 times that he owns a "5 thousand dollar guitar" . definitely going there again but i just wanted to comment that the guy was pretty obnoxious. read more

I came in to GC for my first big pirchase. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I was suggested a great little well-made concert ukulele with a pretty design and case. They helped me find everything I needed including a neck adapter for a strap to make it sit better. Dave helped me pick out and tune my new uke and Joe screwed the button for the strap for me. I tend to try and stay away from any and all guitar centers simply because it seems to always be a hit or miss. Some of the staff is interested, knowledgable and great to talk to but there's bad days too. For some reason after their recent re-model, I feel like the store went downhill a little... not sure exactly what it is - Their selection seems to have narrowed (maybe that's just me)... Anyway, I hesitantly stopped in since it's the closest place for me that offers repairs. I was blown away by how cool and knowledgable Dr. Jim was. He took care of my issue with a temporary and free solution (hard to believe someone there isn't trying to sell you something, I know). He gave me several options as to what we could do and spent a ton of time trying to find the exact wiring diagram for my guitar and special ordering some parts we needed. As said before, I usually try to stay away from Guitar Center but as long as Dr. Jim is there, I'll be coming back. read more
