Worst sales experience today. Not sure how these folks are still in business!. I had gone there to buy a pair of speakers today. I was looking at the speakers there were 2 sales people talking to each other but none approached me/ Once I found what I wanted I had to approach one of them. He answered my first question and while in the middle of another question walked off mid-way in our conversation answering another sale person!!! Who does this? If you want to use a chain to get some affordable (sometimes) music equipment for serious live shows, then Guit your ar-se over here. If you send a girl for you, then tell her that I center here. They know me. Guitar Centers are 4 star spots in terms of what you can get here and 3 in terms of the pricing and then 2 in terms of any kind of service that you want after you buy stuff. That's been my experience with most locations, this one included, although not as bad as my awful experiences up in NY. I couldn't believe the way I was treated by some of the other locations in the past. This one hasn't done anything particularly bad to me, but in the same situation they basically would - I've asked - and anything I bought here has been fine, but I'm always very aware of the heinous return policies and restocking fees which are designed to stop people from ripping them off, but what they really end up doing is ripping people like me off when GC's own equipment doesn't work the way they promise it will. The irony is that they'll charge a restocking fee (a hefty one), and on the odd occasion that someone actually used and messed up the stuff they sell (which in all likelihood is already messed up and that's why it gets returned), they don't even catch it or bother to fix it, and then you buy it brand new and find out that it's glitchy because someone else has already "abused" and then returned it - and they've made a consistent profit on that. For a small local store you'd understand this sort of thing but you'd still be wary of shopping there. For a mega corporation it's shady AF. That's how the rich get rich. read more

Guitar Center - Center on a wild goose chase - Guitar Stores Near Me - Katy, Texas

We ran into a problem when one of the centers sold some equipment we had agreed to purchase. The sales person thought there was no need to purchase it over the phone because the items usually did not sell out quickly which meant in a day. Needless to say the equipment sold out in a day. The salesperson did look around and found the equipment at another location about an hour and a half drive from the original location which was already about 45 minutes from us. We called to verify the equipment was on hand at the Katy location. We paid for it and had it set aside for us prior to making the trip to that store. When we got there, the store was busy, but in very neat order and the sales people were very friendly and welcoming to everyone entering and looking for assistance. Our sales contact person was a guy named Riley who when he saw me it was as though he knew why I was there and who sent me. (it was probably the look of desperation on my face!) He was so friendly. I had to write a review. I probably stood out a little bit because I'm not a musician and I was a little bit awh struck at all the equipment they had on hand and listening to a couple of sales persons and patrons sampling the musical instrument. The whole experience was great for me. And I believe this equipment is a step toward a very positive outcome for our spiritual and community growth of our church. Thank you! read more

Came here only to leave after 30 minutes of standing around waiting on ANYONE to help us with a first time guitar purchase. Even after asking for help, nobody came and we kept being told someone was coming. They either need to add more employees to their weekend group, or do some in house training on how to show customers they are seen. Terrible experience. I highly suggest you go to the STAFFORD location. Great store, so much less crowded of an area of town, and outstanding and attentive customer service. Ask for Ruy! He is the best. I asked if the items were available in store and if I could just take the ones that were available so I wouldn't have to wait, Charlie helped me out and I was able to get my items same day. I went into this location a couple weeks ago and got the worst service I have ever experienced at GuitarCenter. There was a guy that had his hair in a pony tail a purple tie and he wasn't friendly at all. He had a bad attitude when I asked him about looking at a drum throne. I was explaining some stuff about my current drum throne and his response was "whatever, I'm not going to argue with you" . I wasn't even arguing with this guy. At that point it was awkward as hell and his manager didn't even correct his employees attitude. They viewed helping customers as being inconvenient. At that point I ended the interaction and decided to leave. It's a bummer because I've spent lots of money at guitarcenter and will never buy anything from them again. read more

I went there 1 week ago to buy a karaoke system that will give me the feel of a live band, and the As ian guy Sam helped me a lot he is very professional and very knowledgeable he showed me the best speaker, stereo mixer and microphone! And i an jamming in my house like. Pro! Brent his friend was also a staff there and for a non techy like me their input and help are most appreciated! I was in the Katy Texas Guitar Center on 7-6-23, this was my fist time here, I had to bring in my bass and electric guitars for repair. I had called ahead since I had to travel a little distance to get there, after asking a few questions I felt confident about this location. Upon entering I immediately noticed how well stocked this store was, my only complaint was that since I use a power wheelchair to get around, a lot of the new stock, flat beds and dollies were blocking the aisles. I eventually made my way to the rear of the store where the repairs counter was located and expecting to spend a couple of hundred dollars where I met Nick and his new and rather handsome, no, sexy assistant were at (unfortunately I didn't catch the new guy's name). Anyway these two guys were wonderful! They looked over my guitars and listened as I explained my issues and the dove right on in. The new guy was very meticulous and took care not to cause any damage to my guitars and Nick was wonderful too, as it turned my guitars we're just filthy on the inside and well the outside were dirty too, they each had cigarette ashes and smoke inside, ill never figure out how ashes got inside, however the guys did a wonderful job cleaning them up and all of this was on the house!! Thanks guys!! and they also told me that part of my problem with the buzz and hum I was getting was probably caused by using a guitar amp instead of a bass amp to play my bass guitar, so while there I bought a bass amp and a couple of other items. Mike helped me with the sell of the amp and he discussed with me about my next guitar purchase, Mike was really helpful and friendly and knew his business. I also wanted to inquire about lessons but the person/persons weren't available at the time so I'll have to check back later. Anyway I came away a very happy and a satisfied customer and look forward to my next visit and hopefully that sexy new guy will still be there. Oh and Nick you were cute too. read more

I strongly beileve that this is the WORST guitar center in the entire nation. I visited four (4) different stores in the US for the past five (5) years in four (4) different states, and this location is the WORST. My experience started with this store when I dropped my Ibanez acoustic electric guitar for repair at this location, next thing was I didnt recieve any info regarding to my instrument for the next three (3) weeks, after almoat weeks, I received a call FINALLY telling my that my guitar is ready to pick up. I went to the store and the front desk guy informed me that "Oh, tour guitar is not ready yeat" .... that's five weeks.... now IS THIS HIW YOU DEAL A LOYAL CUSTOMER who bought, rented through tour stores for yrs, I wish that there s something else that can rate this location as REALLY BAD, WORST guitar center and some action is needed IMMEDIATELY. Oh, i forgot to mention that there was another VERY upset customer that was having the same issue at that location. Thank you guitar center for RUINNING our events for the holidays. read more

Cool music shop! I came in looking for a component, they didn't have it. The clerk was very helpful in taking me to the section that should carry the component I needed, but they were out of that size. He made several helpful recommendations of other places in the area that I could go to get what I needed, which was much appreciated. The store was clean, and they had a variety of cool instruments that they let you fiddle around with. The parking was easy, but it's not quite as easy as you'd think getting from Katy Freeway into this place. read more

I go to the Katy store because of location. I have bought keyboards, acoustic and Ukes, and Guitar pedals. The past 3 times I left the store I ask why I went in the first place. The last time I went I was going to purchase a $300+ effects processor. I asked for the boxed item and the guy grabbed the floor model to help find the boxed. I went to pay and guess what, it was the floor model. I asked if it was, he looked at me, and I looked at him. He then said well it really doesn't matter does it? The manager was standing next to him listening to see if I would actually buy it and then chimed in that they did throw in the power cord.....I did not buy it. The reason I went to Guitar Center was to take home the processor and not wait for Amazon to ship it. Second to last visit, I was shopping for a higher end guitar. Stood there looking up at the top shelved guitars for 30 minutes, looking around for help, and well no help. I had to chase a guy down. I asked the associate the difference between the models of that brand and he had to google it online for about 10 minutes. Told him to forget it. Lost my business. I bought somewhere else. There is one associate that has helped me with Ukes and acoustic guitars and was legitimately excited to help. Thank you, that is why i came back the last two times. I look for him but I am never lucky enough to pop in while he is there. This really is a bad store. I have been playing for 20 years. I am definitely not new to music stores. I am starting to think of Guitar Center as the music store version of Game Stop. The second star is for the guy that actually likes his job and made my purchases enjoyable. read more

This place is in complete disarray! I think a bomb would have made less of a mess! Most of the shelves are bare in the drum section and what is still there is not in good condition. There were no bass drum pedals to audition and all of the spare parts that drummers need for fixing instruments were gone. There is a section for hand percussion but you can't get to it because of boxes everywhere. This store should not have been open to the public in the condition it was in yesterday. The employees were nice but even they seemed embarrassed by the state of the store. I went here because it is the closest to me, but I don't like to waste my time and that's what this visit was, a total waste of time. People are always helpful. Last time I got a lot of good information on daw recordings, tips and tricks to help better produce songs.

Regardless of my rating, I still visit this Guitar Center due to its proximity to where I live. However there are some major problems here. First off, I understand this is a "studio" but that doesn't mean everything has to be a MESS in the store. The electric drums are always either tangled in too many wires to play, BROKEN/not properly set up, or just sprawled on the floor like it hasn't even been put together yet. And then, the Drum-Room kit honestly seems like its been through hell. Cymbals seem rusty, hi-hat stand is not greased up, generally bad feel. Why would anyone want to buy a drum-set after playing on these? Bad presentation. Second, Customer Service here like many Guitar Centers is awkward. You can walk in the store and be looking around for 30 minutes and not once be asked if you need anything. And then you can stand at the cash register, and not be acknowledged for 10 minutes, just for a pair of sticks. While not all the employees are like this ( I've met some nice people), too many of them are. Third, About 2 years ago I received a Martin Koa wood Ukulele with an Pizzaro Pickup from here as a gift. I noticed that the pickups seemed to not be installed properly and took it in to ask if they could fix it. Nope. The first time I came here it was a young man who simply just said " seems fine to me", really nothing we can do. I decided I would listen to him. But it just kept bothering me so I took it in once again. Now this next employee played it for 2 minutes, and said we they could trade it in, but he didn't recommend it since it had such a "beautiful sound". What I don't get is why a place that has a guitar maintenance area cannot simply file down the saddle just a little bit so that the A string pick-up would sound more equal in volume. Just a Soap Box of mine. 4th I bought an LP professional series Bongo set from here a few months back, and it came with old worn down heads. When I had asked if they could change the heads, they said " that's how it comes"... But when I went to the Westheimer Guitar Center, they had many different bongos.. ALL OF THEM with fresh drum heads on them. Clearly the one I bought was played too much as a floor drum. My fault for buying from here. And Lastly, this place doesn't make me feel like its ok to go play the instruments. One time a few months ago I was on an electric set, and the employee or the manager came up and said something along the lines of " could you stop playing for a few minutes I have so much going on right now".. Of course I stopped playing ( volume wasn't even a quarter spin). But this is a music store, loud sounds occur in music stores, especially at Guitar Centers. It just isn't a good vibe when you are supposed to be able to play the floor instruments, and then a staffer/manager tells you not to play. If this was any other type of store I would understand. As much as I love music, and being able to play in music stores, this specific store isn't very inviting. I drive all the way to the Westheimer Guitar Center now just to have a 10x better experience than the one here. I will still come here, and I just hope it gets better each time I come. 2 stars. Having fun acting silly. Hey why not it's my birthday. Made a few videos lol Goofin off. The guys were super helpful even gave us a nice discount instead of spending 179.99 for a guitar we paid 129.00. Only good until the close of business. I love when you go into a place of business and the workers are happy and seem to not be bothered if you ask questions and genuinely want to help you. We had a blast but I ended up singing my own birthday song to myself I guess my daughter was really excited to purchase her new instrument. I hope the east of my birthday is even better. Who knows what could happen. Anyway back to the review. It was really a nice experience as always in The Guitar Center. My musically inclined clarinetist 13 year old son and I visited this store on Saturday before Memorial Day. He wanted to take up another instrument but didn't know which. The store was quite busy with their Memorial Weekend Sale. All of the staff was friendly, helpful, exceptionally informed and knowledgeable about music and their products. I remain struck by the patience, empathy, and sincerity of the staff at every interaction. They were even patient with the musically impotent like me. Manager Trevor and Salesperson Amanda deserve special kudos. They helped my son decide on the starter guitar that has played non-stop in my home since Saturday. He's already playing a few songs quite well and enjoying every minute of it. He will soon own a keyboard from their store. Special note: My son has money quite independent of his parents (yep; and he's 13). He bought the guitar with his money and will buy the keyboard with his money. He's frugal and sensible and worthy of respect from me and everyone that knows him. I took two guitars for restringing .. the electric one was OK.. but the guy did not listen to what I told him to do - My acoustic is a mess !! strings wrong size They lost my picks that were in the case and the case I have had for ages without any marks came back with scratches and marks on. I was just here 10 minutes ago and had to work up the courage to ask an employee where the ukuleles are because NO ONE came up and asked me if i needed any assistance or anything (mind I'm 17 and have slight social anxiety) and when I went in the guitar room I again had to work up the courage to walk up to the old worker employee and ask if I could buy the ukulele or whatever and he goes "um can't you see i'm doing something right now" and sort of shook/pushed the air with his hands as if to emphasize the the single guitar and book on the counter that we wasn't even doing stuff to earlier (he was on the computer) and sure he could have been doing something work related but he was incredibly rude and i just walked out because it was embarassing!! Can be hit or miss depending on the associate (it's a pretty high turnover store since they opened, and one i think may not have the product movement volume of the other Houston area stores), but if you aren't getting the service you think you should be getting, ask for Trevor, the store manager, he should get you square away or will get an associate to help you pretty quickly. There are much better Guitar Centers. Pick any other one in Houston. Called here on a Friday to make sure a pro mixer was in stock. I wanted to pick it up along with several patch cables and XLR cables. They put me on hold for Pro Audio and I sat there for over 5 minutes repeatedly hearing them pick up and then put me back on hold. Finally they just disconnected or hung up on the line altogether. So I decided that the manager should know their "hold" techniques weren't working. I called back and asked for a manager. He turned out to be a millennial at least in attitude. He proceeded to tell me that I probably was walking around on my cell phone and just got bad coverage and got disconnected. I told him I was calling from a landline and the bigger point was that they needed to be more courteous to people on hold. For example they could have at least given me a status update, etc. This is basic phone courtesy that most people in a retail environment should know. These points just seemed to be lost on that particular "manager". I've had excellent service at the Westheimer location though. Go there or buy online. read more

I just want to say how grateful I am for this store. There are plenty of Guitar Centers in Houston, but this one has given the best service bar none. Being a beginner going into these stores can be daunting, there are so many guitars, amps, and pedals to choose from that it can be overwhelming. But the employees make the experience easy and comfortable. After messing around with a few guitars, and inevitably having to return them because of my lack of skill and understanding I was able to have an affordable guitar recommended to me that I have absolutely fallen in love. The pedals I have been able to buy here as well have been the exact ones I've needed as well. All you have to do is ask the employees, and it will make your experience so much easier! Another note I want to hit on is the return policy. It can be so embarrassing having to go back to a store to return something, especially when an employee took their time to explain things to you. But sometimes it's just not what you wanted. But the employees don't shame you about it or make you feel incompetent about it. Rather they try their best to pair you up with the best product they can. And that is something I can really appreciate it. I cant thank the following gentleman enough, Kevin, Michael, and David. They have been the most hopeful sales associates I've dealt with at a retail store bar none! And their Manager Trevor is also a master of customer service! I will undoubtedly continue to come to this store for all my guitar needs you guys rock! read more

No bueno , every time I go in to pick up a package or something I ordered , never ready. Even when they say it's ready they've taken like 20 minutes to find it. Once me and a friend of mine went to pick up the package he ordered for a pedal that had said it was ready, we got there and the guy didn't even check if they had it , he just looked around and said no, we get a call from the same guy within 10 minutes of getting back home saying "oh we found it" waste of gas read more

We went in on Sunday to have a look around. I was interested in some Pioneer CDJ-2000s (around $6000 of equipment). There were tons of employees messing around, which is cool and hip I get that...but not a single person offered us any sort of assistance out of maybe 10 employees we encountered.They were busy drumming, strumming or playing on the keyboard. I am pretty sure those sick beats they are dropping arn't making the company any money...But what do I know. I think there were 2 other customers in the store at the time. I was more than happy to spend a little more (and do your research, its a LOT more) to buy in a brick and mortar and get some hands on with the equipment. But looks like back to the internet! I went here looking at a used guitar that GC had on it's website. I played it and liked it. I made them an offer of $50 less than what was written on the price tag. The salesman went and talked to his boss who said that they could not budge on the price because they had a rule that said they could only come down on the price of a used guitar after they had it for more than 90 days. Come on man!!! It's a fricking used guitar. My suggestion is stay away from big stores with a bunch of rules. Go to smaller places that will deal with you like Texas Music Emporium where I ordered an identical new guitar for $65 more than their used guitar. I'm done with GC. read more

But today I went into the acoustic guitar room to make a deep pocket investment and there were 5 workers in there standing around talking to each other and playing. No one asked if I needed help or assistance or acknowledged I was there. They were talking so loud I tested out two guitars and left out of frustration. Yeah, I've been to this guitar center at least 5 times and have spent a good deal of money here. Will not be returning tho. Very unhelpful staff that don't seem to be doing much but when you ask for there help they just say, "yeah we don't have that." Or "I'm sorry let me grab someone from the back to help you,"- after you've been waiting for more than 15 minuets... stupid store, can't believe I went there so many times.
