I stopped into this location to return a speaker and didn't have the best experience. I've been to other guitar center where the staff is great and expected similar customer service. When I walked in with 2 big boxes, everyone in the store just kinda stared at me. Not welcoming at all. Once I returned my items, I also wanted to purchase something else and the gentleman in that part of the store was not super helpful and a little standoffish. I called this location attempting to buy a new keyboard workstation and reached some snot-nosed kid who identified himself as a "manager" and scolded me for talking too loud before I could even tell him what I wanted. Fine, sonny. I'll take my 5 grand somewhere else. I reported this to the Westlake Village, CA office. I've NEVER dealt with such a BUNCH of no-talent, hair-brained LOSERS ! So we love the Guitar Center in my household. We have purchased several instruments & equipment/accessories over the years, and have taken instruments in for repair. They always have a very knowledgeable staff on hand, which is great! I recently purchased a drum pedal & electric guitar amp cord. It was all online & I did the curbside service. It was seamless. The communication via email & text, and the entire process was a breeze & the gentleman that helped me was wonderful. My only suggestion for this location is to take it easy on the teenagers; not all of them are punks & a lot of them truly are trying before they buy! We bought my son's Pearle drum kit & his Taylor acoustic guitar from here (we got his P. Mauriat sax & Fender electric guitar from a different music store). All excellent brands & we did not get the bottom of the line models either. I say this because this particular location, more often than not, tends to kick him out when he's trying/playing the floor models, where other locations leave him be. This place is huge. Pictures don't do it justice. There is a large open "main" area devoted primarily to guitars and accessories and sound systems and sheet music and whatnot. Off this main area there are many additional spaces with all sorts of cool stuff in various adjoining rooms, halls, alcoves, and other curious display areas of varying size and shape. Acoustic gets its own special room with a door and everything that you can access at the back of the main area--I didn't go inside because it looked a bit too exclusive for me and too dangerous for my little kids to go near of course, but if you're looking for acoustic stuff you'll probably love it. You'll also look really cool going inside. Other areas and offerings: a huge drum section filled with drums and drum stuff and related accessories and all sorts of things that I have never even seen or heard of because I do not play drums, all located in a large room/additional area just to the right of the entrance as you walk in the store from the parking lot (with potentially more spaces located off of that first "drum area,"--I didn't venture that far in). Another several adjoining areas off the main space are similarly dedicated to pianos, keyboards, and synthesizer type stuff. Further back into the distant corners adjoining piano land, you'll find another room or two full of speakers, amps, and all sorts of sound systems and devices for DJs and sound engineers and audiophiles of any sort. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a secret entrance to another realm entirely back there, with dancing elves playing trumpets and harps and accordions and other strange creatures of that sort, given how many corners and alcoves and sections they had there already, and the relatively short time I had to view the space on that particular occasion. I think I saw everything over there but it's a cool tricky place so who knows... On the other side of the store, I saw--but did not enter as the store was closing at that point--additional rooms and areas for music lessons and rentals and a few other doors to miscellaneous realms of musical store excitement. I'll have to check that side out next time. But you get the idea. This place is BIG. In fact, the "main" area alone is as large or larger than the entire square footage of the few other guitar center locations I've seen before (and mammoth in comparison to the other independent music stores I've been to, though the latter are actually better small IMHO...but that's a whole other issue to address in their reviews or at least not right here since I've gone on about space here long enough). This Guitar Center is great for what is. It's pretty darn cool and makes me want to learn more about everything there and maybe learn to play a few more instruments in the future. I've only been once so far, and I don't have enough music store experience to comment extensively on the quality of their actual stock or their prices in comparison to other stores. But they have a TON of stuff there for musicians and DJs and sound engineers and audiophiles and anyone else seeking musical instruments and music related goods. And they do price match other stores, so if you find something cheaper at another store they'll give you that price (up to 45 days after purchase, with some exceptions of course). I have not tried the latter, but I have purchased something fairly expensive (for me anyway) and the process was smooth and nicely handled. Customer service guys were nice but unobtrusive overall--they're not necessarily going to greet you enthusiastically when you walk in, and almost certainly not going to follow you around the store to see if you need help. If you want all that, this might be a problem. But it's more like Home Depot or target or a grocery store or basically any larger store really. I much prefer this approach. They're there and quite helpful if you need them, but otherwise they'll let you explore and do your thing. If/when you do need them, they are there and happy to help. Just ask the one closest to you or go up to the front desk and toss your question out to them--there should be several associates up there who will be willing and able and even happy to help you. Even if you're a distracted weary looking mom with three very little, very rambunctious kids with you, and you seem highly unlikely to have any intention of purchasing a crazy expensive guitar and/or fancy sound stage gear or concert level musical equipment or anything exciting like that. The customer service at this location is the worst! (The Manager Jon and the assistant Manager) I purchased a QSC K118 from this store on 18 November. Used it once and noticed a noise like a rattle at the back of the speaker. Returned to the store on 2 Jan to exchange and was told the 45 day return period had expired, however for holiday return Guitar Center has an extended return policy until 31 Jan. While at the store I call the corporate office and they could not understand why the store would not exchange the speaker. I bought a guitar from them today. The purchase process was fine -- no complaints there. My issue was with the salesperson. When I went in, he set me up with an amp and asked me "Do you have an amp at home?" I was a little taken aback, since this was a $2,000 guitar I was using and presumably that wouldn't be a beginner's guitar, but I brushed it off and told him "Yeah I have a bunch of guitars at home." A few minutes later, he came back and pointed to my husband, asking "Is this purchase for him?" My husband plays bass, can't play guitar and never touched the guitar, so the only reason I can think of as to why he thought the purchase was for him is because he was being sexist. This isn't the first time I've dealt with this at guitar shops, but I just felt like I needed to say something. Guitar Center: Please tell your employees to not be sexist to female guitar players. One of the lowest rated guitar stores in the NoVA area? Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm pretty frustrated for multiple reasons, but I'll focus on the customer service. To their credit, the first two employees I encountered were kind and tried to be accommodating. After waiting about 10 minutes for the manager, Hendrik, to arrive because the other employees were unable to help me, things went downhill. The issue was less the information being delivered and more how it was delivered. If you are a young woman, you understand that older men are going to be disrespectful when they interact with you, even if you are their customer. Expect that attitude at Guitar Center. Honestly, I'm just thankful I only wasted $50 (ouch) and not the several hundred they tried to sell me on when I was making my initial purchase. If you are making a big purchase here, know that once things go wrong, you're on your own. Good luck. The manager Hendrik was not very accomodating when I asked for cosmetic repair and went as far as to accuse me of damaging it myself. He claimed that he "hooked me up with a discount" ....my guitar was trashed by you guys! Of course I'm not paying for it....but now my guitar is trashed....and the manager that I turned to for recompense basically accused me of damaging it myself and was very rude to add insult to injury...I have never been so offended and now my property is damaged. On August 25, my wife and I stopped by the Falls Church, VA location looking for a drum kit. Matt was working at the drums areas with the flu. That made us feel uncomfortable for we don't want to get sick too! Fortunately, we stayed healthy. On August 30, I returned to buy the kit I was looking at initially, but went with something similar but cheaper. I was also hoping not to see Matt and give him the sale. After he told me it was also a complete kit (drums and necessary hardware included), I decided on those instead and ordered them in the store for delivery. Declined the insurance a few times, before he stopped selling it to me. On September 11, they arrived. None of the boxes had any hardware so I couldn't assemble my new kit. I returned September 13 asking where's my hardware. Matt then tells me that hardware is not included in the kit even though he told me previously it wasI His only response was, "oh, my bad" thinking I was going to respond, "oh, that's ok. I don't mind." There was a box with the hardware in the store, but instead of giving me those (or at the very least sell them to me separately), he gave me the option of returning my kit for another one. The customer service manager wasn't any useful either for he could've just given me that hardware box. (I believe the hardware box in the store didn't even belong to a corresponding kit, but could be wrong) The second to the last straw was me giving Matt another sale he doesn't deserve. The last straw was the purchase itself. The difference between a new hardware set and a "blemished" hardware set was about $25. I went with the new set. I was charged for the new set, yet the corresponding email states that a blemished set is being delivered! I went there yesterday because I have $1000 to spend from a grant from Arts Fairfax. I've been wanting an Akai Mini for a couple of years now. They had them on sale for $79.97. Regular price $119.97. There was an orange/red Clearance sign right on the display. We walked around looking at gig bags, cables, PA systems, taking an inventory on what we should buy for our band. I picked up the Akai and a couple of slides and was ready to go. Then I saw a used Akai in the used merchandise case and asked to see it. The sales guy who helped us with the bags was nowhere to be found so we asked the other guy who was there. His attitude from the beginning was that we were bothering him. He barely answered any questions and basically left us alone to make the comparison ourselves. He told me the price was $71.97. This wasn't really enough of a discount for a used one in a crushed box with nothing else in the box. So I opted to get the new one. When we were ready to check out the guy that helped us initially still wasn't there so the manager rang us up. When the total came up about $40 more than expected, I questioned it. I told them it was on sale. He went to the display, removed the clearance sign and told me that that price was for the some other model. But I said that there were several others on the same shelf all advertised at that price. Then he said that it was only for the used model that was still sitting there on the counter. When I told him that the used model sitting there was from the other display in another room and that other sales guy quoted me a different price, the manager looked confused. I started to try and compare the UPC codes but then the manager said again that the clearance price was for some other model that they didn't have anymore. Even though the display was for the one I had in my hand and there were several more on the same shelf. I fully expected them to honor the price that was advertised. They refused. So I just left everything there. I wish I would have taken a picture of the clearance tag on the placard before he removed it from the display. No wonder this place is going out of business. They barely have any inventory to begin with and here is someone with cash in hand ready to buy something and they turn me away. Additionally, I get that the place is centered around music, but they had the floor stereo playing a totally different track than the piped in music so the sounds were clashing, and if you're a musician, you know how awful that cacophony is. What a great place. They let you freely try out any of their guitars or amps without hovering over you all the time. In addition, they have a very generous 45 day return policy so that there is no risk that you have buyers remorse. Now for an amazing fact. I was shopping for a 12 string guitar but they only had the lowest end model in stock. They told me that I could order several 12 string guitars from their website and have them shipped to their store. When they arrived they said I could come in, play all four of them and decide which to take home and immediately "return" the rest for full refund. This is something they said they've supported many times in the past for other customers. This is amazing to me because experiencing a guitar in person and connecting personally to it is very important in the buying decision. You can't just go off reviews and pictures by others! Their customer friendly policies are at the core of what makes this big box chain thrive and a place that I visit regularly. The world needs more businesses run like this! read more

If you place an order, they will make sure that all the little needed items to make your gear functional and work are either included in the order or suggested to you to make an intelligent decision on whether to buy or not. Jim in pro audio is fantastic and goes the extra mile. I have found him to be one of the most knowledgeable resources in the store. Just a really bad experience. All I needed was a speaker and wireless mic system. The pressure to buy the higher priced stuff was too much. And Jonathan wouldn't take "no" for an answer regarding the extended warranty crap. I finally had to tell him that's my final answer and he could either sell stuff to me or not. He badmouths all the cheaper equipment to sell me the higher priced stuff and then tells me I need a warranty because the higher price stuff is crap too?!? Really?!? While in the store, I saw him pressure a guy into putting something on layaway so that no one else could grab it?!? Layaway?!? Really, was this the last one in the world? I don't need anyone from Guitar Center to reach out to me. You obviously are putting pressure on your people to upsell the crap out of your customers. I felt like a Wells Fargo customer. When a customer says "no thanks," that's it. Don't train or pressure your people to tell customers they're wrong. That's not a good long-term business strategy. read more

Terrible customer service. Just downright rude and insulting, especially during COVID19 lockdown madness (I had a mask and was wearing gloves). I walk in and they're yelling across the store at some poor old black guy for talking on the phone with a lowered mask - what a way to treat customers! I then proceed to the guitar section just to take a look at prices. A manager immediately follows me in and says "can I help you" - only his attitude conveys, "Just what are you doing in here?". Yeesh. I say I'm just looking, and he replies, "OK, but don't take the guitars off the shelves, because we have to wipe them down after you touch them." How incredibly tactless! Nor are these isolated incidents, I remember another one from a while ago: I was shopping for a keyboard, and one of their store clerks just walked off when I expressed a preference for a particular brand. Lovely. I've bought from here before, but NEVER again. Their prices compared to online are terrible, and half their stock is gone. Far better to use reverb.com for much lower prices and you don't have to deal with their obnoxious attitudes. read more

Ok, so the prices in here are what you would expect from any Guitar Center. My biggest problem is the selection. They have the basics covered, but the Guitar Center in Virginia Beach made much better use of its space. The selection of amps here is fairly week as is the overall selection of guitars. The selection of basses is actually better than most other locations though. I have not had any work done on my instruments here so I cannot give any feedback on how well the tech does. The staff in here is courteous and helpful as well. The only reason I am giving them three stars is the fact that the store is huge and the selection is weak. read more

As a musician of almost 11 years, I have had the privilege of visiting my fair share of Guitar Centers in the past, and I have enjoyed every experience thus far. However, much to my dismay, I can't say the same for this Guitar Center. Something about the layout of this particular location was not appealing to me at all. It looked more like a warehouse and far less ambient than the other stores that I have had the pleasure of waltzing into. The acoustic guitar room felt tiny and cramped, and I had a really difficult time finding what I was looking for. I was completely terrified that I was going to knock everything over with all the junk in my trunk. I could have easily asked for help, but I became far too distracted and immediately started playing everything I could get my hands on. This happens when you love making beautiful sounds. The actual purpose for my visit today was to trade in a bunch of equipment that I no longer use in order to buy a better acoustic guitar. Although I found a really great Martin that I fell head over heels in love with for a surprisingly fantastic price, they did try to play my entire life with the trade-in value of my used gear. And I wasn't having it. I politely declined their weak offers, telling them that I'd just sell my stuff privately and put the cash towards my purchase later. One trick that I would suggest is selling the majority of your stuff elsewhere, and then trading one item in (which yields you a 10% discount on any other item you want to buy that day). In the long run this is best of both worlds and will definitely stretch my money the furthest. I plan on getting my Martin when I get to Portland next month because they have no sales tax in OR. That'll save me a cool $40. I will say that the service I received was exceptional, which is why I won't go ham on this store. But the fact that you wanted to offer me $75 for a used Ibanez that I saw advertised on your site at $250? C'mon son. C'mon. read more

If you want to buy something here, the staff is generally helpful, when you can get their attention. Oftentimes I walk in and I feel like I'm being ignored. After the 20 minutes it takes me to get somebody's attention, they can usually help me out. Also make sure you check out what you're buying. They sold me a piece of recording equipment that looked brand new, but it was clearly used and returned (carefully but not too carefully repackaged). I took it back and made them exchange it for a brand new one that they had to have shipped in from another store. Normally I wouldn't have fussed so much but the battery on the item I bought loses its charge capacity rather quickly so I wanted to make sure it was actually new. And don't bring anything in for service. I brought my guitar in for service. What was supposed to have taken a week took almost three (for something really simple). They kept giving me excuses about the service guy not being in. I had to call them like 5 times, and they could barely locate my guitar. Then they told me it was ready and I went to go pick it up, and they lost my guitar. It took them almost an hour to find it. I'm not sure if any of the other GC's in the area are any better or not, but I still go here when I need something quick, need small accessories, or I want to see something hands on. read more

Ok this place is not my favrit but they have "strong points" as well. Ok first I tell you what I don't like then you can be the "judge" Firs off all, I do not like how the "sales assosiates" they try to ask me hello how are you and how can I help you today they are "annoying"! I am a "grown" man and I know what I need and where I can find it ok? Second off, they do not have a lot of CDs or records what kind of music store is this???? Only guitar, amplifier, trumpets. They sell record players, but then there are no records to play on them? Hello??? Ok now the "strong points". Ok they have my favrit guitar "Fender Squire" and also my second favrit "Fender Stratocaster". They let me play guitar and "test out" their guitars all the time and for this I am great full. I have learnt to play "Stareway to heaven" and also about half of "Terrapin Station" so I like to come here and exercise (jerry garcia would be proud :P ). There acoustic room has a lot of very nice guitars also, my favrite is "Yamaha" but it cost "$399.99" which is out of budget but one day ;) . They have a lot of pics too for guitar and I like to buy a diferent one every time I go for "souvenir". Last time I bought one that looked like bowling ball and its my favrit right now So there you have it.. I give it three stars because this store is like "ying-yang", some good some bad but we all have to live together :) read more

I gazed longingly at their electric ukulele before finally making my purchase of a few maracas. I would give this place 5 stars, but since all I actually did was try out a instruments and then buy 2 maracas, I can't speak for their customer service or the like. I've had multiple dealings with GC over the previous two years. One involved the purchase of pro-audio/DJ equipment, and I couldn't have been happier dealing with their salesman. We played with a number of different speakers and combinations before settling on three speakers and a mix board for our setup. Hooked evertyhing up in the store, which required some cable shuffling, moving speakers, etc. Always helpful and happy to oblige. In the end, the system worked out very well for our group. Second purchase was for a Martin D17M and the Fishman SA-220, and I dealt with Ben in their acoustic guitar area (he only works Thurs-Sat), who IMO, is one of the most knowledgeable acoustic guitar specialist I have encountered. I spent a number of Saturdays playing many guitars, debating going for 6 or 12 string guitars. He convinced me to go with the 6 as I would play that more, and had many suggestions. Never felt rushed and had all my questions answered. He's just a fun guy to listen to and learn from with his experience. I took him up on his suggestion of installing the LR Baggs Lyric pickup and it sounds fantastic! He said that if you buy a nice guitar, you'll likely play more often. I must say, after having a cheaper guitar sitting around, that is coming true. Time will tell if that holds out. The only small compliant I had was that he suggested that I have the shop install the pickup. Since everything he had said until that point was on point, I didn't even think to check the install instructions and assumed it would be more difficult. After picking the guitar up and reading the instruction manual, I'm confident I could have saved the $40 install fee since I'm pretty handy with tools and the double sided tape. What bothered me more was when I played the guitar and picked it up I heard little chips moving around inside. Apparently when they reamed the hole for the pickup install the installer never bothered to vacuum out the pieces inside the guitar body. To me, that's not quality work, but lazy work, and I would question where else the installer cuts corners. Will not be returning for additional work in the future based off that. I ended up buying a cheaper 12 string for fun and occasional songs that demand that sound but did that online as GC did not carry the particular brand I wanted. I had also been coveting the Fishman amp since hearing it 2 years ago, and now that I had the Martin, and we are finally playing some open mic and other venues, I could justify splurging. Sure, there would have been cheaper ways to get decent sound, but I kept coming back to the Fishman amp when compared against the others. Took the work from the side contracting gig and bought me one of both, and couldn't be happier! Each time I purchase, there is a follow up email from the salesperson which I find to be a nice touch. I'l agree with the other comments, when you finally get the staffs attention, they'll help you. Either or, most of them sit around and act like they're on sabbatical from touring with there mega rock god bands. To be fair, the guy in the home recording section was great when I bought a roland work station a few years back. Most people that come into this place, lurk around, make funny faces and play stair way to heaven on the guitar. I play drums, and although I'd like to try out a new kit or cymbal every once in awhile when I'm in, I feel like I'm imposing when I walk in. Guy behind the counter is always busy doing something and is always apprehensive to give up a pair of sticks and there's always some sort of "drum" off going on in there. It's more like a d*^% measuring contest. I order sticks on-line, better prices and if I need anything, I'll order that on-line also. This Guitar Center has Great and helpful staff, have always had good experiences here. Ben in particular is fantastic- I've dealt with him for over ten years and he has always steered me in the right direction. Ben has a keen ear for finding guitars that match the player's style. I just bought a Fender strat he showed me after initially eyeing up a more expensive guitar- he told me I really needed to try his recommended guitar before making a purchase. Overall, I could not ask for more - huge selection, a totally personal (and fun) shopping experience, and a result that we are thrilled with. My husband is new to guitar playing and I wanted to get him an electric guitar for his birthday. I visited Guitar Center and worked with Adam, who was incredibly knowledgeable and happily scheduled a follow-up shopping trip with me and my husband. On our second trip, Adam had picked out the four guitars that we discussed the first day and had them ready to play with his recommended amp. My husband was able to try all four and Adam stayed with us the whole time, answering questions and offering advice. His recommendations were totally unbiased and he never tried to steer us in any one direction based on price or personal preference. I got the impression that he would have let my husband play 100 guitars if he asked. After we completed the purchase, Adam offered a warm "Congratulations" before helping us to the car. On the way out, there's a guy who checks what you're leaving with and compares it to the receipt (smart in a place with $10,000 guitars!) and even that guy was so nice. Over the past two years I visited Guitar Center (and a few other shops) a total of ten times in the search of my "ultimate" acoustic guitar. I own three acoustics and five electrics, including two high-end electrics. After 18 years of playing, I decided to spend some time researching and selecting my one very, very nice acoustic guitar that was probably going to cost more than a small boat and less than a car. I visited Guitar Center Arlington in January '16, April '16, August '16, September '16, December '16, January '17 and February 12, 2017. My man Ben Hanna happened to be working almost all of these times and always provided some helpful advice. I like Ben because he reminds me of Jack Black's character in School of Rock and the old Tenacious D TV show. I went through all of the Taylor models and ruled them out (too twangy!). Then I went through Gibsons (too stiff!), followed by Guilds (too woody!). I sort of knew all along that I wanted a Martin but had to go through the motions. Each time Ben gave me good information on the models I was trying out. I finally settled on a Martin HD-28 yesterday. You know, that guitar that you think of when you think of a "guitar." It's the one on the Guitar Center logo. The whose harmonics resonate for 90 seconds and whose intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. I'm now in the 45-day "cooling off" period during which I have the option to either keep it or return it. I think I'm going to keep it. The one thing I forgot to do in my excitement is see about having Guitar Center's tech give it a once over and maybe file down the bridge a little bit. Hopefully that's included in the $3k I spent! Anyway, this is a good shop to visit. I've had four guitars set up here and bought lots of accessories. I've always had good service. Seek out Ben if you're looking for a guitar. I was absolutely struggling with whether to get a regular Martin D-28 or the "H"D-28. I knew the difference but couldn't quite decide what I wanted. Then Ben suggested in his Jack Black like ways, "Hey pal, you need to hear them from the front!" He then played a couple tunes on each guitar with me sitting in front of him. That made the decision easy and I went with the HD-28. I really like that there is no hard sell at Guitar Center. Like I said, I went in the shop many times with the intention to research and buy the instrument that spoke to me when I was ready. They let me do that and that's why I got my ultimate guitar from them. read more
