I just pulled up to this Guitar Center and was excited to go and get some essentials in an actual store, as well as browse around to see what they had in stock. And yes, of course, I had my mask on! I play guitar, drums, piano, and I sing. So I visit every department when I go to a Guitar Center. There's a sign out front that says "Line Up Here", and there was an employee out front with a walkie. No one waiting in line. This guy had a CRAZY rotten attitude and literally wouldn't even let me into the store! "What is it you're looking for today?" "Oh, I'm just browsing. You're open, right?" ".......We ARE open but I need to know what you WANT" Dude was a straight up asshole. 100% condescending and attitude. I thanked him and walked away. Probably a Nickelback fan. First of all, due respect, 99/100 chance that I know more than you do. Guaranteed. Ron Swanson style. I've been playing professionally for 21 years. Second of all, I'm trying to spend my money in you're store!! You don't want that?!?! Ok. Back to Alto Music it is. I won't be back to this bs location. I just want to say , I have been coming to this store off and on for several years , I did buy a $1400 telecaster a few years ago. It has been problematic the whole time and will most likely sell it. I'm currently looking for a Gibson Les Paul Standard. But after my previous experience and reading the endless bad reviews ( with Managment apologies ? Not being a professional player (or a particularly great player) on a limited budget, sometimes you can run into a little condescension when dealing with sellers. I ordered a D'Angelico 12 string which was shipped from Florida, The Guitar was fine except it came in a Gibson shipping box and had no paperwork, also there was a battery installed in thwe preamp. I called the customer service line and the guy told me that was the way they got it in, I said you know that youre being hosed and no new guitar comes that way, so dont try to hose me either. Now I've spent over 7K with these folks and the guy says wat do you expect as a remedy. I said send me a case, he said that is not acceptable, I said fine, I'll go and do business with Sweetwater which is a class act. So,,, be careful of GC, maybe that was why they flirt with bankruptcy. If I could I would give this place negative stars rating I came in and I wanted to look at a tele headstock, I mistakenly took the guitar because I was not aware of the new policy in order to have access to the guitars and they didn't have a proper sing in front of the guitar area specifying that we needed to let the staff know before hand, the manager started to yell at me and even tho I was trying to put it back the guitar wall hanger will not stay put because it was broken. I was trying to explain him the issue but he will not listen. Then I was trying to leave the store according to the specific rules of one way exit due to the pandemic the guy will block the entrance and wouldn't let me pass to the exit because I choose according to him to have a collision with him. Just an average music store. Don't expect an above average experience. It's always easy to tell when they aren't buying gear or taking trade-ins. They spread things out to make it look like they have more product. I can walk around for 30 min. and never have an associate say a word to me. Recently, I tried trading in an amp. I was offered $365. I refused the offer and went Sam Ash where I received $450. I even got a better deal on a new amp at Sam Ash. read more

SO I actually like this location by me. Except is kinda far but anyways, the selection of gear they have here is just mesmerizing! I am a pure metal head and when I walk into a music shop I wanna play just that through the pointiest guitar possible! Once inside the staff were extremely attentive and kind. I loved that nobody bothered me when I was playing on a very expensive amp with a very expensive guitar, it felt good to not be sold every 2 secs on something I def wasn't going to buy! I ended up joining the string club which I thought was a great idea! I always need new strings and with this card, I was able to save a little money on doing so. I will def be returning to this place and If i need to buy an Amp, I think I will go here because they had a great selection of them that I still need to try! read more

I had them mess up 2 guitars, then when a manager righted the situation , the idiot behind register still tried to charge us for the free repair! With the vast assortment of local music stores across Long Island, I rarely find myself going into Guitar Center. Primarily as a keyboardist I only go in there to buy effects pedals or other amenities that I can't find at the local level. This particular one is fine, although certain instances they really crap the bed. Prior to a gig, my band found itself without a PA system, which had blown out. My dad quickly ran in to purchase a new one, but they only had a single speaker in stock! How do you carry only ONE PA SPEAKER?! So my dad ended up purchasing a more expensive PA, and AGAIN they only had a single one in stock! So we had to take the demo speaker off the wall and do the gig with that one. All this after calling ahead and securing this purchase and we showed up late to the gig. That's not acceptable. So not the best place to go in a pinch, in spite of what one might think. But they do have a great assortment of pedals which are fun to mess around with, as well a decent assortment of digital keyboards. While I prefer vintage, they do have some cool new Korg and Yamaha keyboards, but they are listed at... well, list price! It's worth it to shop around to find one at street price. Also, they do have an interesting assortment of folk instruments (banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars) in a quiet, wooden enclosed room. Every Guitar Center does have it's fair share of vintage gear in stock that was sold to them by former owners, but they have very little expertise in them, ESPECIALLY when it comes to keyboards which does not at all justify the prices. As far as repairs, I have no real experience given that my repairs are usually done locally. That said, it's always worth to get your guitar serviced by a real luthier. Joe Jesselli in East Northport does fantastic work at decent prices. So that said, Guitar Center has been adequate at best in my experience. Also, heads up for the horde of midlife-crises horribly butchering "Smoke on the Water" on a hideous Gibson Explorer they can't afford. They're everywhere! read more

I'm guessing they needed to, so I do understand business is business and I don't pretend to know the numbers in their books. DO NOT USE GUITAR TECHS AT THIS LOCATION!! I brought in a very special guitar for a simple set up and to have some electrical work looked at. I called repeatedly and finally received my guitar with wires cut and pieces missing (guitar was now inoperable but working when i dropped it off). I could not believe that such an establishment would put out awfully amateur,sloppy and incomplete work. I spoke to a manager and they said they would send out the guitar to a more experienced tech in the city. I have got the run around since November and I am still waiting for my guitar. Very unprofessional and disappointing. I will never use Guitar Center for anything ever again. read more

This review concerns the guitar tech (repair guy). I got a verbal quote for $45. When I brought the guitar in it became $75. He botched the job once, and I had him redo it correctly. Now the price was $90. Lot's of attitude, unreturned phone calls and attempts at blaming me. What he did for me was a very simple wiring job. They lost the tremolo arm to the jazzmaster I wanted to buy. Could not replace it on the spot so they promised to have one delivered to the store. I got a call a few days later that it was there but when I went to get it no one knew what I was talking about and the part wasn't there. The employees said they didn't even see that the part was ordered. They said they would order it immediately but I never heard back from them again. I rarely post negative reviews, but sadly, G.C. has gone way downhill. This used to be a very good place for me to go for gear & to get good deals by good staff. Not anymore. G.C. Commack is a joke. More often than not, there's no one in the drum dept, so I usually have to go behind the counter to get what I need...IF... they have it. Just last week I went there to get some parts for an older DW pedal...(I needed a new hinge for the heel plate & some new straps) The guy looked at me as if I had just asked him for directions to Jupiter & said that they don't have these items (they did at one point, as I saw them there), He suggested that I go to ACE Hardware for the hinge! A few days later I went there again to pick up the new issue of Modern Drummer...yep, they didn't have it. (they used to have many of the trade magazines) Almost every time that I've gone there, I've walked out empty handed, as they never have what I need. I was going to plug a Clapton Strat into an ENGL Savage, and one of the salesman rips the guitar out of my hands and says to me "This guitar is not right for you." After that, I never went back. I went in the other day to use my gift card I got. When I walked in to the pro audio department, all of the sales associates were standing behind the counter yacking to each other and not one of them greeted me. I looked around and it was so empty. There are usually equipment demo setups but there were none at all. I went to the keyboard room and NOTHING was on to demo. I finally plugged in a synth and turned it on and played with it myself. As I was playing I still wanted to use something else and still no one came to help me. There was maybe 2 other customers walking around the keyboard department. They then sat and waited until I was done playing so they could try the synth. Man that store sucks so bad now. It used to be awesome back in the day... All the merchandise is such trash too. The boxes are all ripped apart and broken. I went into the recording room and there is one little computer setup with the Maschine micro. That's it!? There used to be 3 computers set up! Such a joke... The salesmen and the young manager are horrendous. I will NEVER go there again. Do yourself a favor and don't bother either. Go to NYC and go to the one in Times Square. read more
