First of all, he did not remove the grass, but mowed it short and then put a protective cloth over the area to be filled with plants and decorative rocks. It did nothing to stop weeds and grass from growing in the entire area. It involves constant weeding to remove the grass that has come through as well as weeds. Secondly, his choice of plants was not based upon the amount of sun received in the area as well as wind. We had to completly replace the evergreens that were planted in October, the following May as they had all died. One would think they would be under warranty. But no-but he generously offered to plant them without additional labor. This trees were very expensive. I contacted the nursery where they were purchased and they informed me that these trees should have been under warranty. I have since had to replace most of the plants he planted in this landscaping project. This was an expensive project and I regrett not doing more background on him. His bid came in lower than the others-but I can now see why. You get what you pay for.

We did have some "wants" on our list which included a natural gas firepit, natural gas line for grill, seating for ~6-8 people, and enough room for entertain with some food, drinks, and a nice place to relax. From the start to the finish, Grant and Power was completely different than the other companies. Other locations just met you outside, what you wanted, and how big. Then we got a quote. However, when I contacted Grant and Powers, they started out with an email with some essential information like their insurance, a pamphlet and other information to get us started. We talked about what we were looking and then waited for our appointment Our appointment was different. Instead of going outside and talking about size... Gene sat us down to talk to us. He wanted to know what we wanted, what we were looking for and what we wanted to spend. We told him about how we were going to use the space and what we wanted and gave him our budget. Afterwards we talked about modern trends and what designs are in/out, how we wanted to place everything. Then off he went with the rest of the team to start designing it after a small down payment. He asked about budget and we talked about how much it might cost, but of course, the final bill could vary depending on the design. A few weeks later, we had another appointment where he showed us the design and it was amazing. They really sat down and listened to what we wanted because it looked amazing. The budget was completely out of our range.. granted, we knew our budget was on the low side of things, but they were willing to work with us to make this affordable. Finally, our day arrived. We got a call the night before that they were arriving in the morning to get started. During the process, the team were good...i would give them a 4.5/5 for a few minor things.They did talk to us a few times but I wish we were updated better. They were good about protecting our lawn even though some areas did suffer. Luckily (For us and them), our backyard had nothing out there. It was just bare land with green-ish grass. From start to finish, they were done in a week. We waited an extra day for another group of guys to show up to set up the firepit and show us how to use it. They were in and out fairly quickly. In the end, we got a beautiful patio. One section to entertain/eat. The other area is for the firepit and grill. Due to the design, they both feel separate from each other. We did find some minor damages that the team did not let me know or Gene. But he is going out of his way to making it right and I appreciate it. Ive had some neighbors stop by to marvel at the patio. Overall, if I were to ever move away, I would go back to this company to design a beautiful space again. I would completely recommend this company if you are looking for the same.

Scheduling was easy, they got right to work. When there were issues, Shawn was in touch immediately and the issues were resolved often before we even realized they existed. The patio and retaining wall are gorgeous! The steps out to the yard, and the stoop from the house are a HUGE improvement over what we had before, and all done for a very reasonable price, especially since we did shop around. Mr. Eric, Ms. Lindsey, and the rest of their brilliant crew have been working on a multi-year project for me putting in hardscape, including grading and, ultimately, changing (soft-scaping) our two acres from lawn to native plants+wildlife flower garden. Eric and crew are experts on native plants. The more I read about "lawns," the more I cringe every time I pass one on the road. Lawns, being non-native plants, they are animal-torturers -- ironically, lawns passively mow down animals. Think of lawns as efficient animal-disposal machines. Do the planet (and your neighborhood) a favor and make your land friendly to critters by insisting on native plants. Native plants and animals evolved together over millions of years, so when one's land doesn't have native plants, wildlife starves, all the way up and down the food-chain. Lawns are gasoline- and water-guzzlers. The lawn industry uses up a humongous amount of petroleum products merely in lawn-mowing. I am a "Gone the Lawn" person now. Lawns are appropriate ONLY under certain circumstances, like one is a croquet fanatic. I never knew that gardening was year-round. April is the month everyone waits for, but planning starts the previous autumn. Eric's physically-demanding season winds down in mid-November, so let him see your plot before the snows hide the land. We had met with a half dozen other firms regarding replacement of a deteriorated, timber-lined hillside path to the lakefront. There were significant challenges due to slope, established trees, and limited site access. We also wanted the new path to be integrated and consistent with the existing landscape. At our initial meeting with Joe, we were impressed by his enthusiasm, creativity, and attention to details. We worked with him for about six months to refine the design, address permitting issues and select materials. Joe was always responsive to requests, offered constructive recommendations and enhanced the project design. Beyond replacing the path, we added a patio and seating area. The project took four weeks to complete in the fall of 2023. Joe's crew was exemplary - they were talented craftsmen - expert hardscape installers who worked hard all day and were mindful of neighbors' concerns - which were very few. The project was completed on time and on budget. We are pleased to have worked with Joe and his Landscape Architecture team and with the completed project.

I purchased a tree from Ack Ack that was installed in late May. Within one week the leaves began to…read moreturn brown and fall from the tree. I reported this to Ack Ack and after a review I was told the tree looked fine, this after most of the leaves had fallen. An Illinois office of Agriculture saw the leaves and determined it was apple scab and I received a diseased tree. I was told nothing would be done and to wait until next year.It would probably recover if I sprayed it several times. Again I was told that the tree looked fine. I would caution any buyer to avoid rhis vendor. If the tree is healthy all is okay, but if you have a problem, they do not respond to help or replace diseased items. I can only give Ack Ack one star. Buyer beware.
