Started going here 15 years ago. After the other local shawarma places failed me, I am glad to return and see that it is still run by the same seasoned professionals (not kids). The chicken is pure white meat, very little fat, whether you get the sandwich or platter. Potatoes are always perfect and they use the better yellow rice. Garlic and hummous are provided in separate containers so the platter doesn't become a soggy mess. You must try something from the BBQ section of the menu (takes about 10 minutes to cook, so call ahead). My new favourite is the Guava Special Platter. It has all 3 kinds of meat so enough to share between 2 adults! The kafta is very tender and not dry. Don't forget to request the fatoush salad dressing, made in house and not creamy. read more

Good spot, I had the beef platter and my boyfriend the chicken platter 16.49 each. The garlic came in a little container wish I had more. I liked the beef ,found the chicken dry. Shawarma is an Ottawa staple and everyone as their favourite, but if we only ever ate at the same restaurant, we would never experience all that Shawarma has to offer. I was really pleased with Guava's Shawarma overall - the only downside was that the staff didn't seem particularly pleased to see us. As for the food - very good. Not to greasy, good amount of toppings, well cooked chicken. The potatoes were pretty good too, but we had asked for a lot of garlic sauce and we only got one regular dollop - not the end of the world. Like everywhere else, prices have gone up likely as a result of the pandemic, but it was still a decent rate for a sandwich. It's a pretty convenient location for us, so I'm sure we will go back. read more

Stay away from this DIRTY place. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and that will be my last. The younger guy had gloves on but he didn't change them in between customers or tasks. He would grab toppings for my chicken plate, walk around to touch other things, and then come back to resume my order. For example, he had this FILTHY rag used for sweeping dropped food into this crevice on the metal counter where they assemble the food. I doubt they even change that rag, but it's gross he would use it and grab my toppings with the same gloves on. He also didn't change his gloves after serving the people before me. He kept the same gloves on to grab my wrap and to ring me up. The second worker who made my sandwich didn't have gloves on at all... they were inches from his work station but he was too lazy to put it on. In case this restaurant hasn't noticed, there's a pandemic going on. Wash your hands and change your gloves people. So disgusting. read more

I had accidentally run into this place while driving back from Ottawa to Toronto and I am so glad I did. This was probably one of the best shawarma I have had in the longest time. The place could use some help with decor but the food makes up for any downfall. The chicken and beef were perfectly cooked with the right spices and juices. The beef was literally melting in your mouth, and the garlic was just perfect. Usually the garlic sauce is not authentic enough at a lot of places but they got it just right. The only regret I have is that this place is too far from Toronto but I will definitely be going back there again when I visit Ottawa! I would definitely recommend trying their shawarma and potatoes on the side with garlic sauce on top. read more

The food there very mediocre and the prices advertised are not the ones that you actually pay. When you ask why a shawarma sandwich cost 2$more than the price advertised they tell you that because minimum wage went up..so when you ask why they haven't changed the price to reflect the new prices and they tell you that it's expensive to change prices. I love shawarmas and I have gone to pretty much all of the shawarma restaurants in Ottawa and Somehow I feel like I can give a good feedback about a shawarma restaurant and what they serve; I must admit that the veggies were very fresh but their chicken is very dry. During another occasion my chicken was pink..not cool to play with people's health. I think it's an okay shawarma restaurant as last resource. The place could you a little updating but their business is mainly take out. After several chances I think it's just not the type of restaurant that I would visit again nor would I suggest it. read more

Guava's Shawarma is very satisfying. Their shawarma plates are filling. The meat, salad and potatoes are great. Their rice is unique and "okay". Garlic & Hummus is amazing! Unfortunately, the plate portions were on the small side, compared to other shawarma restaurants. Nonetheless, Guava's plates are still very filling. Customer service was exceptional from the Manager/Owner. When I asked for an extra pita wrap, he gave me 3. Many shawarma restaurants frown or even charge extra for more pitas. The restaurant was extremely hot, like an oven! Guava's is quite spacious with many tables to sit at. The emptiness of Guava's was kind of eerie (Saturday), but better empty than super busy. Guava's is a little, local neighborhood shawarma shop in the Strandherd Crossing plaza. It has a few tables and chairs inside and very simple decor, nothing fancy. The food can be a bit of a toss-up, depending on the day and who's serving you. There are times when the garlic sauce is stronger than others, and times when it's not blended properly, but other times it's great. The biggest variation I find is in the quantity they give you - I had someone put maybe a handful of meat in the pita sandwich, and another person stuffed it so much until it looked like it was going to fall apart. The meat itself, both chicken and beef, is seasoned well, but the potatoes can be very greasy if they've been sitting for awhile. Don't be afraid to ask for more garlic if they only put a bit in your pita/on your potatoes. In general, it definitely fills my shawarma craving and service is always friendly and fast. read more

I always get the falafel sandwich, and most of the time, the falafels are awesome! A long-time customer of this shawarma place, mostly because it's very close by and the food is delicious for a very good price. We come here about once a month, though usually a bit more than that. Portions are very sizeable and filling, while the pricing is reasonable, particularly when you look at other competitors nearby. The beef and chicken here are truly delicious and amazing, fitting perfectly with the sides. I've ordered both platters and sandwiches and both of them are delectable meals. This place could have some improvements. For one, meals are sometimes inconsistent and we've had to remind the staff that they forgot to add a side like hot peppers more than once. The hummus though is not particularly great and about on par with the store-bought hummus at the Metro nearby. Still the thought of a very, very hearty meal at a very reasonable price ups this to a 5 star rather than a 4 star. The garlic and potatoes are very tasty, the sour garlic sauce and pickles perfectly synchronized with the lightly salted meat. This forte impact of flavors can be smoothly decrescendoed with the nice staccato crunch of lettuce and tomatoes. Would definitely be coming back for a long time read more
