Cute decorated Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa were good. The chips were thin, crispy, and freshly prepared. Shrimp and steak taco (American style) was delicious. Both were well seasoned and flavored. Peach frozen margarita is worth trying. A little sweet for me and probably would prefer on the rocks but went with what the majority in our group wanted. Everyone else liked it. One in our group said their steak quesadilla and flutas was really good. Our waitress was really nice. Guadalajara is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Pell City. The food is always good and the service is great, too. We have been customers of Guadalajara for over 20 years and we love that the staff knows our name and order when we walk in the door! It's kind of funny how things work out, we had actually planned on going to eat a different location, and made a wrong turn. With a limited time for dinner we saw this place and thought we'd give them a try. Really happy with our selection. Inside is definitely dated (as some of the other reviews have already indicated). It doesn't have all the frills and décor that you will find in several of the other Mexican restaurants. Apparently that's ok though, it would appear that these guys have put their focus on the right things ... good quality, flavorful food. Chips, salsa and drinks were at our table quickly, kind of the norm for any sit down Mexican restaurant. The menu is sufficient. Some places have 8 - 10 - even 12 pages and it can be overwhelming. This place has about 4 pages and a great selection for anyone in your group. I went with the Steak Flauta plate with a side of rice. Flautas in general can be kind of plain, but if they have good salsa (this place does) it really accentuates the flavor profile and makes the Flauta stand out. Steak was cooked well and the outer shell was fried to a golden perfection. (5 out of 5). My wife had a combo plate that had an enchilada, Chille reyano and taco. Here item's were all with ground beef. Beef was flavored nicely and all the items complimented each other really nicely. Overall I'd give hers 4 out of 5. My only comment, which isn't a big deal and they got it fixed, the check came out wrong, they didn't see drinks on our receipt so just assumed that we had Margaritas???? If you were wondering we had 2 waters ... pretty good difference in price. Great meal, great staff, would repeat! read more

Order fajitas Texan style, not top notch, rice over cooked and sticky almost like it was to much water then sat to side. The shrimp was just plan no real flavor or spice but the chicken and steak was well seasoned. No plate was given to make them on but got one by request. Staff was friendly and very helpful if needed anything but language barrier caused so issue but no bad. What worries me is I came during start of church rush and my food was fast getting out so makes me wonder how much is not fresh or been sitting waiting on a order which would cause the rice to be bad like it was. Would of gave it 3 out of 5 or maybe 2 out of 5 based food but staff help make up the difference so gave a 4 out 5. read more

Unfortunately, my gripe is the same as a few others. Good food, not so good service. The first half of the meal went great, fast drink orders, fast and correct food delivery... Right in the middle though, our waiter disappeared. No refills on anything. I had to wave the hostess down and get some to-go boxes, which she brought right away. The problem was we had plates, empty cups, and empty chip bowls on the table (smaller than average boothe tables). As I've stated before, I have 3 little ones and this place seems to bring everything on separate plates. So, I didn't have anywhere to set the to-go boxes to put the food in them. I finally had to flag down another waiter to remove the stack of stuff so we could set our to-go containers on the table... but never saw our waiter again. read more

Excellent food & customer service. Ordered the Shrimp nachos supreme and it was wonderful. My friend ordered a combo platter with a tostada, beef burrito, and tamales with rice & beans. he ate it all! And chips with salsa. Not fond of their salsa but their pico de Gallo is really good & spicy. The chips are freshly cooked and hot when they come to your table. The music is Mexican piped in over speakers. There are tv's but no volume which is nice. If bad weather, the weather channel is on. I would suggest eating here - huge portions. read more

Tried to call. Got hung up on mid sentence by a guy with a thick accent saying, "hello Guadalajara." Dude, wasn't polite at all after asking about his day and if he could help me out. Called back, all I wanted to know what was in his chicken soup. Every restaurant tells you when you ask. His answer? "Why don't you come spend and find out?" Like customers don't have a reason for calling and asking about a product? Because I don't want to waste my own gas buying junk. Two stars because the only thing they got right from my previous experience is their salsa. Everyone, just go to el Cazador. This place is fantastic! I went during lunch and ordered a shrimp fajita nachos! It was so tasty. The food was piping hot and the flavor was unbelievable. Some of the best guacamole ever. Great serving and will have you wanting more. The service was awesome. I will return and suggest you give it a try. read more

We order a taco bar for 20 taco and 10 pre made quesadillas cheese ,salsa ,chips rice and beans . When we go the food home. We had 10 already made tacos and 10 quesadillas . We was having a family dinner for a birthday with children who as many don't eat lettuce or tomatoes and there was only 10 taco !!!! We had to go back and pick up the rest that came in a taco bar setting .. the problem was told to us the lady took the order the right but the owner changed it when they got there the next day ! The BEST Mexican restaurant in Pell City. We have been customers since the restaurant opened over 26 years ago before we became full time lake dwellers. Good food, good service, easy in and out location. Cinco de Mayo is always special, the restaurant gives customers a T shirt for the holiday. This is your typical Mexican resturaunt. The food is consistently prepared. The menu selection is a little sparse for my taste, however they have your typical dishes. I give this place high marks for both the consistency of the food and the service. The service has always been superb and friendly. I have no idea why people in this town are so loyal to Guadalajara. My husband, four kids and I ate here about a month ago and the service was beyond horrible. From waiting at the door several minutes to be acknowledged to sitting at the table nearly ten minutes before being greeted, being told they don't have spoons (they serve ice cream!)... it was horrible in every way. Well... glutton for punishment that I am, we tried again tonight. We only had two of the kids with us, and let's face it, big families rarely get good service. We thought maybe they were just having an off night last time and since we were just a normal four top table this time our chances of good service were better. That much, I was correct on - the service was better tonight. Not outstanding, but not terrible. But the food was unacceptable. I ordered a beef burrito. There were HUGE chunks of ground beef inside the burrito that had barely been browned and were raw inside. I decided to just accept it and pick them out, since it wasn't raw chicken and not likely to make me sick. Then I found the first hair. Having worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade, I can even occasionally overlook a hair as long as it's straight. I pick it out and decided to keep eating. Then I found the second hair. The only-okay service meant we did get a drink refill but he wasn't around or checking in often enough to mention the raw hamburger or stray hairs in a time frame that would have mattered. Do yourself a favor and go to Aztectas by Walmart. It's clean and the food is always cooked. The service can be grumpy there but it's consistently efficient, even if a little grumpy at times. Or better yet, if you are just traveling through along I-20, keep going until you get to Birmingham or Oxford, depending on which direction you are driving. This town is not a Mecca of good restaurants, especially if you are in the mood for Mexican food. read more

I've loved this place since i was little. The salsa is the best around and the food is always great. Def 5/5 stars for me.
