Wow, this place is a hidden gem. I am glad we stumbled across is on a local facebook page. If you are looking for a unique spin on breakfast, you need to try Azteca's. The restaurant is what you might expect from a typical Mexican place. Very bright, warm and inviting. They won't make you feel rushed, but are ready to serve you. The service is top notch. We were greeted by a friendly, smiling face. Brought to our table and attended to very quickly. A nice quiet place to enjoy an intimate breakfast or a great place for a group to enjoy fellowship without feeling cramped. The food is excellent. Served fresh and hot. When it arrives, it is served on hot plates. Might not look like much when it arrives, but you will get full. And you will enjoy every bite. The coffee is fresh too. Hard to find. Tastes like they are constantly brewing a new pot, not recycling old stuff. Plenty of parking, since it is located in a strip mall. Don't let the location fool you or stop you. Stopped by for To Go dinner on a Sunday evening. There were multiple tables of people eating and appearing to have a good time. I was greeted immediately upon entering and guided to the bar to place my order. The menu has a lot to choose from! Service was fast and good. I got chicken fajitas and steak quesadillas - both came with rice and beans. Both were good sized portions which gave us leftovers. The meats were seasoned well and were tender. Plenty of onions and peppers. Tortillas that came with the fajitas were good. The rice and beans were good. The chips and salsa were great. The things keeping my rating from being higher: The guacamole would be better described as an avocado salsa. Good flavor but certainly not a traditional guacamole with fresh chunky avocados. The margarita was weak but I could have easily fixed it with a shot of tequila. The quesadilla bottom was soggy from grease in the short transport back to the hotel and they didn't have very much cheese but they gave us extra tortillas with our fajitas so I just put everything in the extra tortillas and enjoyed the meal. The staff was very nice, the service was fast, but the food wasn't very good. I had a fajita quesadilla that was dry and tasteless. Usually quesadillas have cheese in them, but this was just dry, chewy meat and very limp and bland onions and green peppers. The others in our party had pretty disappointing food also. a friend invited me to go with her and her son & his wife for his birthday. There were 4 servers y'all - the place isn't that big. It took 15-20 minutes before they took our order. The salsa tastes like they use canned tomatoes. They still have the bird poop guacamole, the cheese dip is soupy. My friend ordered a chicken dish covered in cheese, her son ordered something covered in cheese, and I wanted something spicy. The waitress pointed out 2 things on the HUGE menu that are spicy. I ordered Fajitas Camarone diabla. It was spicy but so hot you couldn't taste the shrimp or veggies. I LOVE spicy food. But I like to taste the shrimp and the veggies. For 4 people it was less than $60 so thats not bad. By the way - my dish was so spicy the people at the table had watery eyes. They all tried it. Including her son who loves spicy food and he choked. I went here with some friends for a meeting. We were sat in the back and immediately given chips and salsa. We sat there for about fifteen more minutes till anyone even asked us our drink orders. I was already a little upset about that. I ended up ordering a fajita chicken taco salad. The chicken had no fajita seasoning on it at all and was very bland. Mexican food is one of my favorite things but this was not good. I'm sure they might have better things on the menu but my first experience was not one that would make me want to return to try. read more

The absolute worst food I have ever had. I ordered #10 lunch menu. One tamale one enchilada one taco. They had a brown something on them, not chili sauce it was like a brown gravy with no taste. Meh, I always judge a new Mexican place by the Chimichanga. I was happy to see they offer shredded beef which is rare in the south for some reason. It was very unimpressive especially considering the price. Service was very fast but there was no one else in there (kinda odd for noon on a weekday don't ya think?). It wasn't bad but it had no spice, barely any sauce and the beef was kinda funky. Very mushy and the shreds were extremely fine which leads me to believe it was old. After being seated and immediately being given salsa and cheese dip we have to wait at least another 15 mins to even have our drink order taken. I decided to order combo B. Which was a chili relleno, chicken quesadilla, and rice and beans. The food arrived very promptly after ordering. The food was awful! The hotel recommended "the other" Mexican restaurant, but since I'm so much smarter, I checked the reviews on Yelp to make my choice. I arrived at round 7:15Pm and the parking lot was pretty full. As it turned out, the cars were for the restaurant next door. So much for smarts. I was quickly seated and my cocktail, chips and salsa arrived quickly. The chips were warm and the salsa was tasty, so I decided to indulge and ordered the Large Mexican Platter. It included: Chili Relleno, beef taco, burrito, enchilada AND a chicken flauta. I requested no rice. In a very short time, my 2 large platters arrived... exactly as I had ordered. I chose to start with the chili relleno, because it showed the most promise. I chose wisely (this time). This dish was fresh and the poblano was appropriately spicy. It was also covered in queso fundito, which is a cheese and chorizo sauce. It was pretty darn good! Now, the not so good.... Each of the other items included an overly salted, off tasting ground meat product. The flauta even had a strangely coarse ground chicken-like product, equally as salty and off-tasting. After the tasty chili relleno poblano, the rest of the meal was sadly disappointing. My server was attentive, but aloof. I could tell that he was disappointed that I didn't want to take my leftovers away with me, but I couldn't bear to kill a stryofoam tree for nothing. This is the "there are no other options, option". Servers are usually quick and I really like that. Food is consistently mediocre. That being said, go ahead and try to find somewhere better in Pell City. It doesn't exist. My suggestion to the owners-serve fresh food. The entire menu feels like it came out of a can, or from a factory. Is it so hard to use fresh ingredients not produced by some sludge machine in a factory? I bet even the meat comes from a can. You shouldn't run a Mexican restaurant the same way you run your Chinese buffet next door! You have an opportunity to be the best restaurant in Pell City, yet you are on par with a cafeteria. Spend a couple extra bucks and watch the crowd break down your door! Throw away all your cans and microwaves! Limit the menu to a couple dishes you spend time on and do really well. Question: Why do the chips taste worse than the generic brand at wal-mart? I eat out to get BETTER quality than I can eat at home. Not worse. And I'm surprised you are able to do worse than generic brand foods from wal-mart. I mean, that's actually impressive! And terrible. I really want to love coming to eat there! But I don't and that's a shame. You can do it Aztecas. I believe in you!!! Make some fresh food changes and focus on the menu.
