We've moved with Grunts Move Junk twice in two years (into and out of the same house). The first time around they were professional, efficient, and a pleasure to work with. The second time, unfortunately, was an expensive disappointment. There was a miscommunication about whether we had boxes or just furniture -- they ended up moving the furniture that was listed in the brief and none of the boxes, which was fine since the miscommunication was not their fault. Once the truck was loaded, they took about 40 minutes to drive 2.5 miles from the old house to the new house. We figured that they were working hard so they deserved a break and they could decide how to manage their time as long as they got the job done. Unfortunately, they didn't get the job done: they left a fairly heavy desk in the garage of the new house because they ran out of time to put it in the room where it belonged. We were subsequently quoted $256 for them to return the house and move the desk from the garage to the basement. Yes, $256 to move a single piece of furniture within the same house, because they did not complete the job they were initially hired to do. Needless to say, I can't imagine that we'll be using Grunts Move Junk again. read more

I had a tough move a few years ago, from an apartment that had no AC on a hot summer day with a narrow staircase with stupid door layout. I had spent a month preparing and cleaning, and I was on the precipice of a breakdown. Grunts showed up, and I have to say, they were fantastic. They were sweating like pigs and moving stuff up and down the stairs like they were pulling something out of a burning building. I have a lot of heavy boxes (nearly 60) that were filled with books and magazines, and they managed to get them moved and put into storage with ease. They did in a few hours, and when they realized the scope of the job (I really had a LOT of heavy stuff), they pulled in another couple people to assist. I have trouble letting possessions go, so as a person who was feeling a bit overwhelmed, it was a great comfort to have people there who took the things I didn't need and removed them without my input. In fact, they were so zealous that I had to keep an eye on them to make sure they really knew which mounds were keep and which were junk. It was expensive, but I don't regret the price, and the people who were on the job were fantastic to work with, and I even took a picture with them to commemorate what I consider the biggest bacon out of fire moment of my life thus far. I recently used them again, and it was for a small job; a simple move of a couch to the dump. Again, the team were in and out (literally 10 minutes form arrival to getting final bill), fast, quiet, efficient. I'd use them again for a large job no questions asked. To be honest though, $270 for removing one couch and one office chair is not something I would recommend to anyone; instead, I would suggest contacting your regular garbage contractor or if you are lucky enough to have friends with a trailer to go that route. Unfortunately I didn't, so I was stuck. (Edit: Just noticed under previous owner, junk removal was $99 for one item, $150 for multi-item removal. I know in Covid times prices go up, but ouch.) Even so, I recommend them for large jobs without reservation. read more

We had a great move with Marc and Matt. The company was very accommodative. We had scheduled a move, but the elevator broke the night before, they offered to let us schedule once it was fixed. Two days later we were informed in the morning that the elevator was functional and within an hour they scheduled the Uhaul truck and put together a team to move us! Marc and Matt were very professional, worked fast, while taking care to not damage anything. We were very happy with the move, price and overall professionalism. read more

I hired the Grunts to clear some dumped building materials from a wooded area on my property. I was depending on this being done for final inspection for the sale of my home. I was very clear about the conditions by phone when getting the estimate and schedule by phone. I also emailed photos to the attention of the person I spoke with. When the workers arrived they said they showed up empty handed, without the ropes and tools needed, then said they could not do the work as it was "too dangerous, they might turn an ankle." Their office said they were not aware of the conditions and did not get photos. I needed up having them just take a small pile of stuff that I could have been cleared in my own trailer for a third of the cost of I had know the final price. I do not recommend them! read more

When we first used them a few years ago we had exceptional service. Then it steadily went downhill with each subsequent visit. This included missed appointments, damage to a shed that was never shared, and overall sloppy work and over charging. The last time we used them they sent 2 inexperienced guys with no supervision, who attempted to charge us twice as much for another run when all they had to do was pack the trailer better. And then at the end of the job we had to show them all the places they had missed. They seemed more interested in tapping more charges into their iPad then getting the job done and on budget. Love to support local businesses but this one has lost our trust. I used to recommend them highly, now I never will. read more

What once was a fairly priced, community focused company is now a company with over inflated unrealistic prices. To move my fridge from the garage to the kitchen upstairs, and the old fridge downstairs to the garage was quoted at $666! (That did not include travel time, even though I live in the next town). They charge $75.00 per hour, per worker! Yet, only PAY their workers $17-$20hr. This company was started on the premise of giving retired Veterans a purpose and a job. It appears they are now just using these Veterans for the "Veteran" ideal to make huge profits off their sacrifices. It would be much cheaper to hire another company AND make a donation to a Veteran based non profit! read more

I wanted a total of 5 things, 2 washers, 1 computer chair, a bar stool and a couch removed. These items were already waiting to be picked up in my driveway. No extra work required, but to load them in the trailer. The woman on the phone told me I would need a 1/4 ton trailer and charged me 279.00 for that alone. She told me that my items would almost fill the trailer, hence the reason for the 279.00, it did not even come close to filling that trailer. The two men who came were great. No problems with them which is why I gave more than 1 star. The men were 5 star actually. My problem is these items did not come close to filling that whole trailer, but I was charged the same price for a full trailer. 427.00 including destination fee (which I expected, that wasn't the issue) for 5 items. Grunts moved me on Friday and then I hired them to help set up the new place, like installing an air conditioner, put new batteries in the smoke detectors, etc. They were excellent both times. Sean and Jordan moved me and then Sean returned with Adam for the air conditioner. There was no damage to anything, despite a very tricky set of narrow stairs and some bulky furniture. The scheduler who set up the appointments was also very pleasant and professional. I am impressed and can recommend them. read more

They don't provide in-person estimates for houses with fewer than four bedrooms, and I was trying to explain that most of what I have won't be moving but will be for junk removal. Less than honest employees, and office staff has no sense of customer service. Got a price for a pile of junk I needed removed, and they couldn't take it all in one shot. Was told they would come back and get the rest. After two weeks I called Max, the crew chief, and he told me he was out of town for four days. Two hours later i see him, and his crew, across the street from my house. Call the office, and they want to charge me again to get the rest. Acted like I was looking for something free. Confirmed the pricing over the phone that it would be $110 per hour for 2 guys for a minimum of 2 hours and that includes drive time. 2 hours later after the loading was complete, it was $400 and the story changed about the pricing. When I arrived in Florida it was $140 (total) for 2 guys for 2 hours including drive time. This issue became a relocation budget hardship. Little fishy or bad communication and I'm a vet. On the flip side, the guys that loaded were phenomenal, fast, friendly and professional. I would just tighten up on the management side, so it doesn't appear to be a bait and switch. read more

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience and I would not recommend to anyone. Before move I gave the info that was asked of me- was given estimate - paid deposit and waited for move day. Day of move the team was not prepared and the customer (me) is now being charged three times over estimate. Incredibly disappointed and stressed. Will not be using them again or recommending. The guys on site worked hard but the front end estimate process and the billing process are way too painful and not aligned. read more

We really wanted to support and boost this org, love the mission and the guys who do the heavy lifting are great. But, we hired them to move our household and they left about 30% of the items behind. They said they had left a few things and it "wouldn't be worth it" to hire them to go back and get it. Well, it took us four pick-up trucks and a station wagon to complete the move ourselves. Since most of the available reviews are for their moving services, I wanted to throw in my two cents for their construction services. My father's old house needed work done due to some water damage from pipes that had burst a couple of winters ago, as well as some general decay that had been allowed to progress in the last couple of years of his life and since his death. The kitchen ceiling needed to be replaced, the front deck needed to be repaired (the floor had been removed due to some previous plumbing work), the back porch was a disaster and needed to be completely re-paneled, and the roof of the back porch needed to be jacked and repaired. While there were at it I had them remove a bunch of stuff from the garage. They got all this done inside two weeks. The estimate seemed reasonable, and the final price was right where they thought it would be. I was up there about a week into work, and it looked like they were nearly finished, only needing to replace the light fixtures and put up some trim. Despite the fact that no one was living in the house and they weren't working there that day they had left the house quite clean. Any questions I had were responded to promptly, and any contact I had with any of their people was professional and friendly. I would absolutely recommend them, and would not hesitate to hire them again in the future. read more

AVOID USING GRUNTS MOVE JUNK FOR MOVING. I am sad to leave this review since I have been a REPEAT CUSTOMER prior to this experience. They treat your belongings and you as a customer like junk. Actual cost was twice the estimate despite a 50% shorter distance and 2 in person assessments of the move. Damage to my new residence, the COO Nathan verbally committed to a monetary refund and then reneged, they will say they offered to come and repair but my new home is a rental and my landlord is fixing so that my security deposit is not jeopardized. No show for a follow up appointment. Lost items to a treadmill that they refused to take accountability for, fortunately my warranty covered the loss. I brought all of these items to their attention and allowed ample time for resolution. I am certain they will respond with some excuse, buyer beware if a service provider can't accept constructive and accurate criticism of their business to improve. read more

This company is great for moving but not for junk removal. Moving costs were great, and the guys were all professional, and got the job done quick but when I needed this company to complete junk removal it was a different story. They charge $99 for ONE item. Even if that item is something you can pick up and carry yourself. I asked them to come remove one old couch for the $99. I had forgotten when I set up the date that the company gives discounts for Veterans so on the morning of the removal the driver called to state he would be at my home within ten minutes. I then asked about the discount for Veterans. The driver was hesitant, and stated he didn't know about any discount because he had only been working for one month. One month, and you STILL don't know about discounts for Veterans??? It's advertised on the side of the company trucks!! I told him to ask someone about it because I am a Veteran, and expected the discount as advertised. When the two men got to my home I had asked them to dispose of one other item I could pick up, and carry myself with no problem. They wanted to charge me an additional $99 for the one small item. I told them that was robbery. I understand $99 to throw out an old couch that takes two men to lift but to charge me $99 for the one item I could carry myself was ridiculous. I let them know I won't be doing business with them again. This company needs to work on junk removal pricing, and base that pricing off size or weight but to state each individual item is a charge of $99 is a rip-off. read more

We used Grunts Move Junk Vermont. We had an ancient summer house, built in 1778 and full of furniture from 1940 on. It was riddled with mice. We needed it 100% cleaned out. The guys were friendly, efficient, hard working and never complained. The only thing I wish was different was that I told the woman on the phone when I scheduled it that this was a summer home with a lot of beds. No one told me there was an additional $40 per mattress. I also was never told that the first hour was free and each subsequent hour $60. There were 8 mattresses, because of the lack of communication they only charged for 4. The guys ended up having to come back to finish up, both times they were very late arriving, but they did call to give me an updated ETA. I was worried they wouldn't want to come back the second time because the job was so hard, but they arrived in the pouring rain and quickly got the remainder of it done. They even told me in the scheme of what they do that it wasn't bad at all. All in all, I feel that there could be a better system for price quoting put in place, but the movers themselves did an excellent job and I could not have asked them to work any harder. read more
