The plan to look quickly turned to a plan to buy when she picked up a ring and said she absolutely loved it. From here I commenced a plan to secretly buy the ring. With the help of Ida Eads it went smoothly! She was the best help I could have gotten! She was very thorough even though I told her we were just getting ideas and didn't have any plan to buy yet. Came here for the first time almost 6 years ago for my now-wife's engagement ring and have had great experiences here every single time. They do a great job and finding exactly what you're looking for without selling too hard like some other stores. The employees are very personable, respectful, and don't make you feel hurried or rushed. They do fantastic repairs and cleanings and have a great selection of products from rings to watches. I got my own wedding band here as well, so they have excellent products for both men and women. Would highly recommend as the best jewelry store around. read more

Let's be honest. I'm not the best dressed or kept nice often, but I do shower and brush my teeth, smile often, and most importantly, I use my manners. To this end, I've found that most jewelry stores I enter, I am not necessarily greeted as a customer and more so as an annoyance. Gruno's is not like these other jewelers. We went to have two watches looked at, both not working and probably just the battery. We were greeted warmly by both employees working closest to the door and immediately helped by the young woman. After explaining the problem, she brought the watches back to the jewelers. As we wandered around waiting, she offered us something to drink and even chatted with us about the watches. The first was in working order, but they replaced the battery for free to ensure that it would continue to be that way. And the second, since it wasn't bought there, couldn't be worked on (it was a complex pocket watch), but they apologized and told us where we might find more help. It felt nice to be treated like I was also a customer. I will definitely continue coming here for any expensive jewelry and would recommend it to anyone, especially if they appreciate good customer service. read more

Stopped in today to order my fiance's wedding band. There was not many other customers in the store when we entered. But right away, Rita greeted us and asked how she could help. We went to the wedding band section and she showed us all the bands available. She was never pushy nor did she try to make us buy something that was out of our budget. She was helpful and friendly at all times. She even offered to clean my engagement ring while we were browsing. I really love Gruno's and they have become my prefer jeweler because of the sales people. They treat you great whether you are in a suit or sweats. They never try to sell you something you werent looking for or something you cant afford. Perhaps shopping at a national jewelry chain may cost less, however, I feel Gruno's is very competitive with their pricing, but most importantly they have great customer service. read more

Went to the store to have my TAG Heuer watch fixed...was not keeping time. First thing they insinuated was that it was not a real Tag...wrong! Granted it's older, but it is a TAG...this should have been a red light. Jeweler kept it and retuned if "fixed"...was not any better at all, still losing time. Brought it back...said the only thing they could do was replace the inside, which they did...still does not work...and they told me there was nothing else they could do. Sorry...no refund. Really! My fiance and I have been to a few jewelry stores before finding our prefect wedding bands at Gruno's Diamonds. The store was gorgeous and my first impression was if they would give us good service but it turned out to be one of the best experience I had. We are young and most places we went to didn't take us seriously. My fiance and I was greeted once we set our foot in the store. The sales person that helped us was great. He listen to the both of us and got us a few styles we ended up loving. It took as a while to decide which one but Nicolas was great and patient. When we finally decided on our weddings bands, he was also super helpful on sizing my ring. I have skinny fingers. LOL I think they are great! Hopefully my husband to be would come back and get me more jewelry from Gruno's Diamonds. read more

Misleading & typical used car salesman type. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. I went to Grunos to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I initially went here because of their black friday deal where you could get a free ipad for spending over $2500. I was shown 7 IDEAL cut Lazar diamonds (they made sure to stress the importance of a Lazar Ideal cut). I came back a couple days later with a printout of some comparable diamonds from an online diamond retailer. My salesperson Jen showed a diamond with the exact same specs as shown online....OR SO I THOUGHT.... after negotiating for what I thought was a good price, I walked out almost $7k in cash lighter. When my order came in I was surprised to see that the diamond cut was "VERY GOOD"...NOT IDEAL (this is apparently a major factor to look at when buying diamonds). I called them up to try to work out the misunderstanding, but as stated by store manager Chad..."too bad, you bought it". Of course this was the same manager that told me If I bought a diamond there that next week after black friday that he would honor the free ipad deal (if you haven't figured out by now-Grunos backed out of that deal too once they had cash in hand). Later to try to work out the misunderstanding I approached them with a coupon my friend just gave me for $500 off purchase of $3000, but of course that wouldn't diffuse the damage that was already done. I wont be going back here anytime soon, and hopefully with my advice, my friends will steer clear too. UPDATE 6/26/11: After wearing the ring for 3 months the diamond fell out of the setting. One of the kids at my fiance's school ended up finding the diamond on the floor in the hallway. We went to Gruno's who initially said that they would fix it. I said I would rather them send it into Scott Kay to have reset. They agreed. Three days later the president, Brent Mead, called me up and said that based on our prior dealings and subsequent online review, and BBB complaint that they would rather have me deal with Scott Kay directly and no longer do business with me. He later said that he wanted for me to have a pleasent experiance with the ring, so it would be better if I went somewhere else that I would be happy with. (Kinda late for that Brent). I agreed, because I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with these clowns again. He also said that it looked like it had been stepped on, and illuded to the fact that it had been done so intentionally. Give me a break. Do these guys really think that I would intentionally break the ring just to give them grief? Not to mention I showed up with the diamond in hand. If I really wanted to stick it to them don't they think I would show up sans-diamond. Good riddance. UPDATE 10/18/12: One factor that pulled me into Gruno's in the first place was their "Spring for the Ring" campaign where if it rains an inch or more on your wedding day, then they will pay you up to $5000 for your ring. So when I bought the ring, I made sure to sign up for the program. Well as our wedding day was approaching I figured I better call up Gruno's to check in on them, because as you can see above, it hadn't been a great experience...and lets be honest, they need to be checked on. 31 days before our wedding I called them up to see if they had me registered for the program, and big surprise...the paperwork was MISSING. They gave me the excuse that the person in charge of that program was no longer with the company, which may be true, but that doesn't mean they should've lost it. If you want to take advantage of one of their phantom deals, then do yourself a favor and get a signed disposition from your salesman, and record the whole process, that way you'll have evidence when they try to screw you later. read more

I've purchased a few things thru Gruno's over the years. My big complaint is with their jewelry repair practices. EVERYTIME I go in there to get my ring cleaned I'm told by the salesperson that my prongs need to be re-tipped. EVERYTIME. Twice I was told told that right after having them re-tipped. Last week I went in there and again the salesperson claimed that they needed to be re-tipped and said he couldn't clean it because the stones would fall out. Then quoted me a crazy expensive price to re-tip the entire setting. I thought that didn't sound right so I left and went to 2 other local jewelers both who inspected my ring and said the prongs were fine and stones were secure. I'm done w Gruno's. There are many reputable jewelry stores in town. read more

Went to Gruno's Diamonds today and had an amazing experience. There was somebody at the door to greet me with a smile and he actually asked me if I would like to have a warm coffee. There was absolutely no pressure to buy. The selection was fantastic. They had a lot of brands they were out of my league but they found exactly what I needed and for the price I could afford. But the best part is that I'm getting the quality I wanted. I can't tell you enough how much easier and relieved I felt after talking to Grunos. They have top-notch knowledge and customer service. I heard these people were the best in Rockford for fixing watches. I have a very nice STUHLING watch that had a screw that came loose inside (rolling around underneath the crystal). The watch still worked fine, but I was nervous about the possibility of the loose screw getting lodged in the mechanism. Their watch tech took one look at it and decided it was not repairable (probably since it wasn't a ROLEX) and it needed to be sent back to the manufacturer. Being a mechanical engineer, I know this is not a huge job for a qualified technician to repair. Unless you drive up in a fancy car, dress like a movie star and have a ROLEX, this is not the place to take your watch unless you just want a battery replace (God only knows what they charge for that). I don't get in here too often and when I do it's for something minor like a battery on a watch I didn't buy there. Today it was to have links taken out of a watch band. I almost feel out of place with the upscale merchandise they are selling. I was waited on by Susan today who was courteous, patient and professional. Even though she knew I'm wasn't there to buy anything I was treated like I was there to pick up a Rolex. Thinking back, on my experiences this is the way I've always been treated here. I've been going to the Rockford Grunos for a few years now and couldn't be happier with their service and selection. I've made quite a few purchases; 2 Shinola watches, Alex and Anni bracelets & charms, William Henry knife, 14k child's necklace & pendent and had a 14k charm bracelet fixed, a 14k ring and a Sterling ring made larger. I usually see Angelique or Jessie, they are fantastic. I've never felt pressured to buy anything and they will always stay within my price range when showing me items.
