I must say I have lived in this area for a long time, and never even noticed this place. It is set back on the road behind Tara Inn, right by the train station. Meaning not on main st, back behind it all. Yet it is very busy here! Outside it looks like a typical dive place that one would go to to watch football and eat wings, but when you go inside you are pleasantly surprised. There is a small eating area that is surrounded by large LCD HDTVs and they serve traditional English dishes like Sheppard's pie etc, while serving the usual bar fare. The food was excellent. I am not certain if they were aiming for an english pub theme here, but being someone who lived in England, I can tell you that it sure looks that way. No this is no dive that claims to be some Irish pub, but yet doesn't even have a place to sit etc. No this is a nice place adorned with nice carpeting, hardwood walls, wallpaper, nice lights etc. You name it. Beautifully done. They have a large bar on the first floor and another one upstairs that is not always open. The bar is long, they serve a lot of tap beers, and they have genuine hardwood seats etc, just like in the UK. Great place to watch games, they have a ton of TVs and a friendly atmosphere. This place is apparently no secret as it has always been busy when I was there, but probably not known to most people in the area. Equally good place to sit at the bar and get drinks, or grab a table in the restaurant for some consistently yummy food. I've never deviated from choosing typical bar/grill food. Sandwiches and burgers are good, as are salads and wraps. The wait staff are pleasant and ours knew the menu well. The bar area is nice, comfortable and roomy. Impressive Buffalo Wing sauce - it's unique, with an almost herbal touch to it. Just the right heat and a depth of flavor you don't usually find a Buffalo Wing. I ended up here on my birthday will visiting from out of town (I grew up on Long Island but moved to Florida). It was a great birthday lunch! A family member needed to spend a few hours at the doctor in the area. Two of us decided to check out Grumpy Jack's until she was done. We spent several hours sipping wine and enjoying some great food. They had perogie (SP??), one of my favorites and something you don't find in to many places. It was excellent! We ordered a few appetizers, wine and two meals. I only remember the perogie but everything was good! There was a juke box (if that is what you still call them) and I played several (ok countless) Billy Joel songs. There were clearly many regulars who were very kind and accommodated the Birthday girls love of Billy. Nice place but disappointing bartender. My buddy and I sat at the bar at 3:58pm and ordered beer. Happy Hour is 4-7 half price. The girl behind the bar charged us full price because it was just before 4pm and blamed the computer and wouldn't discount the round. Grumpy jacks makes money off their customers by charging $2.95 to take out money from the ATM WITH A MAX LIMIT OF $20 This place is off my list since I do not support anyone taking advatage of anyone like that. Please if you are going to play quick draw at this place make sure you bring your cash. Update to response: My bank did not set a $20 personal limit which is somewhat ridiculous to suggest. I hardly ever take out less than $100 due to ATM fees. I wish I took a photo of your ATM that had only ONE option of $20. Typically you see $20 $40 $100 etc. I then selected other amount and punched in $100 and it said on screen max is $20. I also tried to take out $40 by entering it into other amount with the same result. I couldn't help but feel this is a ploy to rake in transaction fees. Now if this is the ATM leasing company's doing I would never even have posted a review if your logo wasn't loaded on the ATM. If it's updated or corrected to not have a limit of $20 with $2.95 fee then so be it, but I know what I tired and what the ATM responsed with as well as the single option it presented of $20 read more

My father and I visited for lunch today and had absolutely horrible service and food. I ordered the burger with cheese and hot sauce... it had no seasoning and no hot sauce. When I asked for hot sauce on the side I was given some weird liquid sweet dressing that the server swore was hot sauce. I took two bites of the burger and could not finish it. My dad ordered the sampler and a soup... the sampler was fine minus the clams and he never received his soup. Yet, we were still charged for the soup and burger. We would have complained but it took too long to wait for the waitress to deal with that. Other tables also seemed frustrated with her and the food as well. The only good thing I have to say is the burger was cooked perfect, just no seasoning and super greasy. read more

I've eaten here several times over the past few weeks while my mother is in Mather hospital and I'd love to give it a better rating but today's experience kinda solidified the 3 star rating. The place is nice, its clean, has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is inconsistently good. I've had a few things that were on par with what I would expect from a local pub but at the same time I've had a few disappointments. That being the bacon mac that was very good but extremely salty. I may be more sensitive to it than other people but it was equivalent to Chinese takeout on the salt scale. The second disappointment was a bigger one. Today i ordered the cowboy burger medium rare because I cant stand a dry burger. When it hit the table it looked like a hockey puck. Completely black on the outside which was a bad sign. I took a few bites hoping it would be at least a tiny bit pink toward the middle but it wasn't. It was so dry I struggled to swallow it. I was to hungry to skip a meal so I just ate the fries and pickles. A different waitress came by and made sure we were done before taking the plates to whom I told that the burger was way to over cooked. She said "ok", took the plates and left. Shortly afterward our waitress came by & offered a replacement but it was too late. My guest was done with her meal and we needed to get back to the hospital. I explained that to her so she just brought us the check less a charge for one beer. I appreciate the effort but it was the burger that sucked, not the beer. It's a shame because I think the burger would have been killer if it wasn't burnt. Hopefully the next time I have to go there they'll redeem themselves and u can give it more stars. Once I find a good pub, I keep going back for more. 1. Excellent entrees (with great variety) 2. Happy hour includes a self serve buffet, usually 2 trays off delicious food such as pasta and sausages, rice and beef etc. 3. Excellent burgers especially their speciality ones on Wednesdays. 4. Used to be customers and loved the food but will sadly never be back due to terrible customer service! I ordered wings snd 2 burgers (added lettuce snd tomato) at 720pm and was told 30-35 minutes. I arrived at 40 min snd the host seemed like she couldn't find my order: asked my name a few times and asked what I had ordered and I told her just the burgers snd wings. She said it would be a few min. After ten min I asked for an update she said just a few more min. I asked her honestly if they just lost my ticket, I've worked in restaurants for many years so I understand things happen. She said she honestly wasn't sure since there were so many tickets in the machine.... so I knew right there she was lying. She then said they were 'rushing my order' ... I ordered an hour ago. Fast forward a half hour later the manager gives me a gift card for the trouble not realizing I hadn't paid yet. I thanked him abd handed him the gift card to which he turns and says oh they didn't ring you up yet? The gift card has $15 on it so your balance is $33.... I should've walked out at that point but I felt terrible since I know restaurants are struggling right now. I waited another ten min snd another guy comes out snd says they're just waiting on my wings!!! I said that's it it's been way more than enough time just cancel my order if my wings aren't done at this point I want my money back just cancel it. He said he needed the manager left and 5 min later the manager came back with my food. Get home; the wings have not a drop of sauce on them, the boxes are completely covered in grease. The burgers i had originally ordered on the phone with lettuce and tomato do not have either and are not cooked medium rare or even close to it and my burger was supposed to have wing sauce on it and is dry as a bone also. Also the receipt taped to the bag says to go order at 809pm when I ordered at 720! My husband called and speaks to the manager who insists there's sauce on the wings and then says 'well we rushed them for you' WHAT!!! Rushed them??! You lost my order you rushed them for yourself! My husband laughed and said they lost a customer tonight to which the manager responded 'I'm sorry hope you change your mind' and that was that. NEVER going back there. Can't believe the lack of service especially during tough times you'd think they'd be doing anything to keep customers happy. Don't lie to me just be honest that you lost the ticket especially since I asked! 9pm on a Thursday where the restaurant was basically empty, almost 2 hours to get two burgers and highly dissatisfied all around. read more

I've been here once before with my girlfriend, the wings were pretty good. Their sauce was pretty good but the service wasn't very good at all. This is the second time we've been here; decided to give it a second shot and we won't be going back. Literally everything we got was pretty horrible. The chicken cordon bleu bites weren't like the picture on yelp, pretty dry and nasty. The wings were over cooked and EXTREMELY dry; nearly inedible. this used to be a favorite place for wings and a burger. I came with 3 friends. To start, my appetizer dish was dirty with old onions on the bottom. The second one not much better with crumbs dried on it. Two entrees were over cooked, a filet mignon and a burger. The food was taken back with cold waffle fries staying on plate. Went to Grumpy Jacks with another couple. We go there often. I ordered the Porterhouse Steak medium rare. The steak comes out and it is closer to well done. I tell our waiter and he looks at it and apologizes and takes it back. A couple of minutes later the owners wife comes by and apologizes also. I said it was okay. A minute after that the owners son comes over and in a nasty tone says that if I wanted it medium rare I should have asked for rare instead because they cook it different. I looked at him and said nothing because I would of ripped him up. My friend told our waiter about it and said we won't be back for a long time. This is my Friday happy hour spot and I am always very happy. The bartenders are super friendly and they believe in buy-backs...I'm not sure what happened to buy-backs, but in my opinion, they're a great tradition that should make a strong come back! Happy hour runs from 4-8 and offers half priced drinks, and some free food. I usually order the perogies because they are ohhh soo yummy and you can't go wrong with the mozzarella sticks. The wings are not buffalo, so don't go in expecting that. I would say it's sort of like italian dressing, and if that sounds good to you then you should try them. When we walked in some guy at the bar introduced himself to us. At first I thought, that was sweet but he must be drunk... then I realized it WAS grumpy Jack himself!! What a cool guy! The place didn't make us feel out of place- which can happen with an older regular clientele. We sat outside, were served right away and certainly not dissapointed by the bar food.
