I have been a fan of Grumpy Jack's since their conception prior to 2010. I should have reviewed, multiple times, years ago. The place has such a home-y down to earth relaxed vibe. It's almost as if you were in a neighbor's house. Friendly happy staff. Tons of approachable and happy regulars. Everyone knows each other's names. It's almost like the show "Cheers." What prompted to write this review, however, was the food tonight. I had the most delicious buttermilk chicken sandwich. Besides that I order their original wings, steaks, and the Grumpy wrap weekly. I have found my new go-to spot! My boyfriend and I came on a Monday night and were able to find parking right up front, walk in and be greeted & have the option to sit down at the bar area or at a table of our choice! We chose to sit in the dining area and we got to pick whatever table we wanted which I really liked. Our server came right over to us and handed the menus. We came on a great night, pasta night!! I almost couldn't believe what was included! For just 17 bucks you get pasta of your choice (There was like 7 choices!!) soup or salad and a glass of the house wine. #Yaaaaas! I'm such a basic Long Island bitch so I love a good deal on food, pasta and wine haha! My boyfriend ordered Shepard pie and when our food arrived (It came really quick!) we were really taken back by the portions. They were so big!! What really counts though is how fantastic the food was. My pasta dish on top of being so large, came with 4 healthy sized pieces of the most bomb garlic bread I've ever had! My boyfriend said his Shepard's pie was very good as well and I also really liked the wine. I noticed that almost every night on week days they offer a special. Monday is pasta night, Tuesday is burger night etc. they have happy hour EVERY DAY! $5 apps and half off drinks till 7. You really can't beat the prices here! read more

Believe this place has a loyal following; several different friends have invited me to lunch over the last several months and I've been underwhelmed each time. The outside patio area, which is where I've chosen to dine during the pandemic, the tables haven't been wiped down either time from the previous diners with crumbs and ring stains left behind. The waitresses don't seem well versed on the menu; one didn't know what a Malbec is or what was on one of the sandwiches. The food is fine and the prices are what you would expect mostly. This past week, As I was working on Long Island, I needed a place to eat. We tried to eat at another establishment that was recommended 2 days in a row only to find it closed both days that they had said would be opened. Grumpy Jacks was there and we reluctantly decided to try it out. The atmosphere was awesome and after looking at the logo, we noticed Jack was sitting by the door! Great guy! The food was amazing. So amazing we came back 3 days in a row. From the awesome beer selection to the friendly staff it was exactly what we needed coming from Detroit. Now, Detroit sets the bar high when it comes to food. You can get anything! But Jack made sure he has a little of everything you might need! I didn't have a meal I could even slightly complain about! They had a special called the Sound View Burger that was a juicy burger topped with a crab stuffed Onion Ring, Avocado, Smoked Gouda and Pub Sauce served with Waffle fries! Mouth wateringly delicious! The next night I split the shepherds Pie and the Marinated Burger with my son and wasn't disappointed. But the 3rd night.... Let me tell you, I had a burger that if I was on death row and asked what my last meal would be, this would hands down be what I would request. The Double Trouble Burger! This burger was topped with Cheddar Cheese, an Onion Ring, Thick Sliced Crispy Bacon, Bacon Onion Jam and a Pub Sauce made on what appeared to be a house made roll. I had them top it with a fried egg. Side of crispy waffle fries and a side of nacho cheese to dip the fries in. I will tell you, I am going to dream about that meal for a while! I went to grump jacks for the first time ever. It is off the beaten path hole in the wall kinda place nice place and a lot of room. Looked at the menu looked like a pub menu. When I saw " our famous blue craw crab meat " stuffed flounder I was skeptical as I looked around a pub. The only time I had a famous stuffed flounder was at bonefish grill in Hilton head south Carolina 20 years ago never to be duplicated. Until yesterday that stuffed flounder scampi style is now the best I ever tasted. I can not wait to go back and try the seafood bisque in a bread bowl. We take the Port Jeff ferry once in a while, to avoid long island traffic on our way from Fire Island to our home in Massachusetts. We often have little time to grab lunch, but haven't had much luck with restaurants near the ferry dock. We stumbled on Grumpy Jack's and are very glad we did. They kindly agreed to speed up our turkey reuben and fish sandwich when I said we were pressed for time, and both were quite good. The reuben was a little oily on the bottom but tasty. They gave us a generous side salad instead of fries. It's not walking distance to the ferry but if you're driving, give it a try. Can't say what dining in is like. read more

Met up with 9 friends to have dinner and drinks before attending the play A Christmas Carol in Port jeff on a sat. night. We were greeted by a friendly host and hung out by the large bar while waiting for our table. The bar staff was knowledgeable, classy and friendly. Impressed with the bar specials on a Saturday night. We did not have reservations and extremely appreciative and delighted when they easily accommodated our large group. Our server, Trevor was very pleasant and patient. Thank you!!! Your service was outstanding! !! The menu has a nice selection and prices were reasonable. Everything was delicious and no complaints. We had lunch here today with a few friends. So it's difficult to give a review when you are focusing on conversation but I put a little extra attention to the food for this review. First we had some apps for the table. Wings and some type of popcorn chicken. I only had the popcorn chicken which was good and def would have again. Had a little kick to it too which I like. I had the fried shrimp wrap which I enjoyed, but for me shrimp anyway you give it to me is great. Others has a mix of salads, wraps, soup, and mussels. My wife had the French onion soup and told me later she really liked it. Looks like we'll be going back and that's fine with me, because I saw a lot of other items on the menu I'd love to try. Just one little complaint. Seemed like service was a little slow. Now to be honest I have been here before, pre Yelp days and also found service to be a little slow . They have the best French onion soup!! My husband tried the garlic shrimp Mac n cheese. It was just marinated shrimp thrown over mac n cheese but the mac n cheese was delicious. The sampler platter appetizer was just okay. My husband's burger was over cooked. I had the fish and chips. The batter on the fish was soggy but the fish itself was delicious. The Deery's have opened an exceptional bar-restaurant south of Mather Hospital. Great happy hour 4-7 seven days a week with free food. Excellent selection of beers and spirits. Exceptional wings and burgers and I have never had a meal I was disappointed in. Kudos to Matt and his staff. Jack and Patty's family (Treavor, and Eric) and their extended family( Lana,Dusty, Frank, JP, Colleen) are very friendly and set a great atmosphere for this nicely appointed pub. Small restaurant with delicious food and amazing staff. They go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. The chicken wings are to die for and their buffalo sauce is legendary. Yummy burgers and I order something that is not quite on the menu but they always have no problem making it.. it's Grilled chicken on mozzarella garlic bread wing sauce on the side. The girl behind the bar charged us full price because it was just before 4pm and blamed the computer and wouldn't discount the round.
