I've only used this shop twice to fill my tanks. I have had to go back each time because the first time they didn't fill my tanks properly. Sent me back with about 3200 PSI in my HP100 tanks. The second time around I asked for 32% nitrox. I checked them at the store with their analyzer and they gave me 34% and 41%. When I questioned them about it they said their analyzer was broken but they were certain the tanks were filled properly with 32%. I checked them at home with my analyzer and they gave me 34% and 41%. So far I cannot say anything good about this shop. read more

My teenage sons and I went to Grove Scuba for an Open Water certification course and everyone we dealt with was great. Our instructor, David, was extremely knowledgeable and patient. I felt very comfortable that he gave us the training we needed to dive competently and safely. I bought some gear in advance of the course and discovered that the on-line research, no matter how exhaustive, is not a replacement for actually trying out the gear. Masks I bought for one of my sons & I were uncomfortable. The staff at Grove Scuba helped us find replacements that we're really pleased with. Great place to get certified. My family did our recreational diver certification with Matt Taylor as our instructor, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. Everyone at Grove scuba has been incredibly helpful with everything from answering all of our questions to recommending gear for our training. I came to Grove Scuba for my Open Water scuba training, and I am a fan of their employees' customer service and hospitality of their instructors. When I first arrived to the shop to get tried on for gear, they were very welcoming and provided valuable feedback on scuba equipment. Michael provided a great book portion for the course and made sure that everyone was ready for the pool, lake, and ocean sessions. Fluming was very welcoming, answered all questions well, and was a good instructor. All of their staff was great. I would definitely come here again for my scuba needs. read more

*FUTURE DIVERS PLEASE READ* Grove Scuba relies on Silent World for their boat dives. PROS: I never felt like I was in danger. David Smyth was an excellent instructor for my confined water session. CONS: these are kids who unfortunately are given the responsibility of managing a store. They ask for money but have no clue on proper communication. When I paid in full, they painted this picture that I was going to be able to get certified in 2-3 days, little did I know, they only have ONE BOAT coming in and out, which means you have to be okay with their schedule. It came to a point Gabriel Hernandez asked me to pay around 200 just to go out and get certified because the boat was already full. (when I'd already paid in full and scheduled the dive a week prior). Imagine coming here to get certified while on a vacation trip and not being able to finish due to boat limitations. It took about 4 weeks of silence and unlimited unanswered voicemails for me to finally decide to move along a different dive shop. I did not get a refund let alone a store credit. Every time I called, kids behind counter would repeatedly say "oooh hhmmm manager is not here at the moment can I take a message " I had to keep calling just to get a proper referral of the stuff I'd already done cause without this you can't just finish your certification else where. Overall. POOR COMMUNICATION, UNPROFESSIONAL, WORST SHOP TO REPRESENT PADI DIVERS. read more

His attention to detail and patience combined with his unique style of teaching lend themselves to an amazing freediving experience, and one that pushes each student to be their fullest potential. I've rented equipment on two occasions from Grove Scubba and each time the equipment served well on my dive trips. The Buoyancy Control Devices that they rented me had built in weight pockets, which allowed me to ditch the weight-belt, a nice plus. They even loaned me some additional weights for no extra charge. Their rental rates were the most reasonable I've seen in the area. You should however call ahead to make sure that they have diving rental equipment available and ask to reserve your equipment ahead of schedule. Their equipment often competes with group diving excursions and weekends are their busiest times. read more

I did a lot of research before getting into scuba, since I had already a lot of experience doing free diving and snorkeling. I went to a lot of dive shops and what I drew out from them is that they are very competitive and for this reason you must be careful. Previous dive shops that's I've been to have been have either been pushing for their top of the line(most expensive gear, or overpricing on the gear that they already have while other shops have everything cheaper. I stumbled upon the shops as I was coming out of a girlfriends house, so decided to go in just to look at some fins. I was greeted by Sadie. Sadie is an instructor and also works at the shop. She was very helpful and answered a lot of the questions that I had. she told me about a super awesome special that oceanic was having for BC, Reg, Octo, Dive computer and compass. for about 1000 bucks. Now I don't know if you are familiar with dive gear or diving. But its one of the most expensive hobbies one can have and if you are reading this you probably know and agree. A dive computer on their own can run from 600 to 1000 dollars plus. A goo BC can be about 900 dollars plus and so on. This package was great and I saved a total of about 600 dollars. I came to the store looking for fins and I walked out with y entire pro gear, saving tons of money, this gears lasts many many years and its guaranteed to give you a safe dive every time.. I wanted to try scuba diving for the first time, but wasn't sure if I would like it, so I signed up for the one day, Discover Scuba Diving class. David was my instructor and I can't have imagined a better instructor! He is an expert and is able to teach you in a way that is very easy to understand. He puts things in a way that is easy to grasp, often making a connection with things that you are familiar with. He made me feel safe the entire time I was in the water. He also has a great sense of humor. The other members at the shop were very kind and knowledgeable. If you want to get into underwater photography, they have an expert in that field in the shop, with underwater camera equipment for sale. I can't say enough good things about Grove Scuba. Shelby worked with us during the booking process and was very patient and accommodating for our large group and helped explain the endless questions we had since we all were flying in from out of town and wanted to be prepared prior to arrival. Fantastic group of people working! I don't know who all these people are leaving bad reviews. I have nothing but positive things to say about Grove and the people working there! I'm visiting from LA and wanted to get my scuba diving course done, had no idea where to go so I googled around and found Grove Scuba. I called up and talked to Sadie, she was very helpful and friendly which was a huge relief! My bf had called a few other places in town and everyone was very rude when talking on the phone. Sadie was more then willing to go through the whole process, what to bring, how long it would take, etc. I arrived in Miami and headed over to Grove. Sadie was there and walked me through all the gear I would need for my classes and really helped me pick out what I needed. They have a pretty small selection (at least from what I was expecting) but I felt like they have exactly what you would need. Showed up the next morning for our first class and met Frank our instructor. He too was extremely friendly and helpful. We headed out to the lake to do our pool and first open water courses. I got my divemaster certification and open water scuba instructor certification through grove scuba and I was amazed with how accommodating they were with me and working with my busy schedule for classes. The instructors were super friendly and helpful when it came to dive training and student development. During my instructor examination, myself and the other instructor candidates from grove scuba were the most prepared, receiving the highest marks out of the entire group. Subsequent dives have also always been fun. I've gone on their shark dive in jupiter and fish ID dive in the keys as well as local dives to neptune memorial and rainbow reef, all of which were a blast. For advanced divers I recommend the night dives on Saturday evenings. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable about the local conditions, sites, and equipment. Ask about the Nick Cage discount the next time you stop in. I visited Grove Scuba to claim my Groupon I purchased last month. This was the ABSOLUTE WORST experience I have had with services in South Florida. I will make it brief since I am writing this immediately after my experience, but to sum it up, additional amounts were charged and the representative was extremely rude. The lady who claimed to be an instructor stated we must pay for additional books and courses (Other Scuba places with way better ratings would not charge additional) and also charged a $17+ fee for an application that is usually included. I have asked around and the "Groupon" is the same deal we can get just about anywhere else. Aside from the additional amounts charged, the representative was rude, acted as if she had no desire to "work" and gave rude gestures when we inquired about Scuba. This is simply someone who does not deserve to work with the public. I've had better services at the DMV on a Monday at 7:00 AM than this place on a beautiful Sunday. And no, I'm not doing a good gesture by giving them 1-star, Yelp only allows me to go so low. Save your time and money, use it wisely on a better rated Scuba place in South Florida. read more

This is probably one of the most no-brainer reviews I've ever written. Wish I could give them 10 stars! My husband and I took Grove Scuba's PADI open water course this weekend with David, our instructor. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. My hubby was always scared of the ocean and would get panicky sticking his head under the water. I, on the other hand, am a fish and can't get enough of the ocean. I knew the only way to conquer his fear was to stick him 40 foot below the surface! haha. By the end of the weekend, he was so excited and pumped to take our next dive (which can't come soon enough). David was amazing. He was patient, fun and knowledgeable and made the whole thing WAY less scary. You can really tell he truly loves what he does and loves to dive! As an extra (and because our group was a little bigger than normal) he brought along another enthusiastic diver, Adam. Adam was just as awesome and brought a positive vibe with him! He was encouraging and helped soothe some of our fears. I'm working on convincing all my friends to get certified and when they ask who they should use, I'm confidently saying "David! At Grove Scuba!" So if you're thinking about doing it, go to GS - it's totally worth it. Bonus to the whole experience? I made some new friends and dive buddies :) read more

We booked a scuba dive for the only day we could do it and advised them as such at the time of booking. The last day to complete the PADI certification was that day. We made full payment at that time. They canceled 5 days prior as they could not find a captain for that day. They refused to issue a refund saying that their "system" would not allow it. We gave them multiple chances to refund and they still refused. That's just not reasonable. read more

I received a certificate for an open water course from my uncle, and I was pretty hesitant at first: I had never dived before, years had passed since the last time I did any "serious swimming" and I had had none of the equipment and no idea how to choose the pieces required. Truth be told, at some points of the course I experienced brief moments of thinking of chickening out. But our dive master, David, was very professional and clear about the instructions. I following his advice (summed up as "make sure you do everything that you are supposed to do and none of that you are not supposed to do, and it's extremely safe then"), I had a great and totally new experience. I decided to try Grove Scuba as they are the only dive shop in Coconut Grove. The first time I had my tanks filled, the staff member told me one tank was already full and he was doing me a big favour by not filling it. I knew the tank had been used and was less than half full, and questioned his reasoning. He insisted it was full. When I got to our dive site and set my gear up, the tank was less than half full. Ruined our dive trip! After deciding to to give them a second chance, I signed up for a Nitrox course which they had on a Special deal, for a Limited time only with PADI. Later I found that their "Special Deal" cost more than any other dive shop in Miami. If you are able to drive 10 or 20 minutes out of Coconut Grove, there are more reputable, adept and honest Dive shops. read more

I would recommend this shop for their dive classes over and over again! I did my open water certification with David recently and had the best experience. Diving can be exciting, but also nerve wrecking and having an instructor and atmosphere where you feel safe and comfortable is KEY. David was thorough and experienced. He did not go easy on us with our quizzes/exams/skills learning but his demeanor was laid back and relaxed. By the day of the open water dive, I felt very comfortable being the first one in the water. Having such a great instructor most definitely helped ease my anxieties and allowed me to learn a lot and get to have the best time of my life! In one word Grove Scuba is AMAZING, but because they're so phenomenal they deserve as many praises as possible. Not only is the store well set up, and consumer friendly, but the website is easy to use and aesthetically pleasing (something other dive shops in Miami appear to lack) and the staff is absolutely top notch. I never felt like they were trying to sell me something I didn't need, and they come across as genuinely interested in creating the best experience for their (customers/students) as possible. I completed my open water with Patrick Nichols and could not have felt more comfortable, safe, or had a better time in the water. Patrick is extremely skilled. I've dived with him several times after completing my certification and continue to be impressed. On a day with terrible conditions where visibility was down to a foot we were able to exit the water within spitting distance of where we went it. I am so pleased with Grove Scuba that I'm even going on their dive trip to Bonaire, which was incredibly easy to commit to as the made all arrangements besides a plane ticket. I'm additionally pursuing my advanced diving through them and refuse to go anywhere else for my dive needs. I wish everything in life were as easy and fun as diving, but believe I would not have had this experience with any other dive shop.
