2 months they had my car. Went in for check engine and ignition issue. Then the process began, group one starts sending estimates for repairs, repairs that are not what the vehicle went in for. They damaged my seats electrical, sent new estimate for complete seat replacement. I refused. Through process, I repeatedly said to not do anything to seats except remove fuse to cut power to seat. I'm told i need to approve repairs so they can remove power connection. They removed all the seat wiring and then charged me near $900, nothing repaired. Seats are unusable, electrically. Entire seat electrical put into bag and left in frunk. Since vehicle was parked for 2 months, battery died. They quote ridiculous amount to replace battery. Battery that has one bolt and it's easily accessible. The ignition was replaced, nothing else i took vehicle for was repaired. " New" repairs cost more than vehicle is worth. They have numerous reviews. In my experience, this is not a place to take your car unless you have unlimited time and money and zero mechanical knowledge. Highly recommend vehicle taken some other place. read more

Mercedes dealership costs $330 for an A service. This shop $315 for an A service. Actual cost of my A service $405!! No coffee bar or beverages, no loaner car, no car wash or protective materials for the interior. Ended up wirh an oil stain on my floor mat. I would rather go to the actual Mercedes dealership and be raked over the coals. I mean pay for a premium level of service. Heck! Maybe even get an orange juice and a loaner car! To make matters worse is the staff here are more stuck up than the dealership! Also, the area is not that great I would not want my car sitting there overnight. I have a low miles vehicle that is in exceptional condition. Its in almost flawless condition. At least the dealership will treat me right after I fork out $$$$$ for service work. read more

Compared a few prices with dealership and decided to take my ten year old BMW SUV for a routine brake flush that was due. Price was $25 less than dealer. Appointment was about 4 days out for a specific time slot (so I could wait for it and go) and I was advised to block 2 hours out just in case. I arrived 5 min early and they took the car into their bays right on time. SUV was ready in one hour. Staff was pleasant, especially the gal who managed the front desk. I like that there is one person dedicated to that role and is present the entire time. The waiting area is cozy, with one high-top table and and then four cushioned lounge chairs. Water/soda/Kuerig are gratis. The only thing missing versus the dealership are German loaner cars (for more substantial/overnight repairs) and ... wifi! No biggie on the loaners (that's how they can keep costs down) but in this day and age (and for their type of clientele), wifi really has to be de rigueur. So technically 4-1/2 stars. Based on some of the other reviews I might be a little reticent on major repairs but will definitely return for routine maintenance. One thing that I didn't need this time but I learned is otherwise included is that their parts/repairs carry 4 year warranties, whoa. The industry standard, including the dealership, is no more than two years. Definitely something to keep in mind for those kinds of repairs. read more

For a shop that charges almost the same exorbitant prices as the dealers, they certainly don't treat their customers with much respect. 3 below average service jobs there, the last job lacked such professionalism, a small claims case was required. After dutifully taking my Smart Car every year for 12 years to what was the only Smart dealer in Arizona, Mercedes Benz in Chandler, I thought I'd try Group One Motorwerks in Tucson. I'm glad I did. Not only did it save me from having to drive to Chandler, and wasting over half a day, they also did everything the service manual recommends for the car's year and mileage. They even replaced the button cell battery in the remote and washed the car. Two nice touches that I really appreciate. The staff was friendly and helpful and my car looks great and runs great too. I arrived for an appointment on time but was told I had to reschedule because 2 mechanics had gone home with medical issues. The reception gentlemen were very friendly. I rescheduled and again arrived on time. I had scheduled an oil change. The car was given a thorough inspection as well with recommendations for additional service. I was charged $236.08. A photo was taken of one engine air filter which appeared to me dirtier than when I later removed and replaced it at home. On inspection of the belly pan a 10x1.5 bolt was found cross threaded and jammed into the frame nut. The nut required tapping and the bolt recutting the threads to properly seat it. Dropped my vehicle off with a check engine light on. Drove an hour and a half immediately afterwards and engine light came back on. Like the dealers, this shop charged for a 'diagnostic fee' to determine the problem. So I'm left wondering two things. Why charge customers this fee for a service that's maybe not reliable? Seems to be a European car repair scam run routinely by quite a few shops. And two, did you potentially replace a part that didn't need replacing? I've since had my car repaired elsewhere. I have been a client of Group One Motorwerks for almost a decade now, and I have not, until recently, had any problems or issues with this company. I faithfully bring the car in for annual servicing. I have a 2008 Smart ForTwo car that was having problems with the gear shifter mechanism. It was towed to Group One 3 times. The first time, it was a definite issue of an aging vehicle. The 2nd and 3rd time, it was apparently an issue with the mechanic (s) who "fixed" it, as well as a bumpy start with Kate and Brianna who run the shop. Very long story short...I asked the owner, Bart Lind, to step in and get my car properly "diagnosed" and "fixed"...and after a brief misunderstanding about who should take ownership of getting my car fixed and back on the road...he finally came through. He graciously delivered my car to my door, gassed up and washed, and he worked it out to where I did not have to pay any additional cost for the final fix. So far, my little car is running alright; albeit with a slight "lunging" every now and again...but I must say that Bart has kept my respect for the integrity of his company intact. He may want to retrain a couple of his personnel to provide the same quality of customer service that I have always had throughout the years. Stellar shop, great customer service, high integrity, and very thorough. Bart and his team are really great to work with. I have an older 5 series and wanted my car looked over prior to a 1500 mile road trip. Not only did they give the car a thorough look over and prep it for the road trip, but the car ran and performed beautifully on the trip. Their prices are still well below the dealer and their service and professionalism is well above. They have a great customer lounge area and don't try and overcharge or perform unnecessary work on vehicles. I took my car to another shop in town for a vehicle inspection and they gave me a estimate with $5k in "repairs". Needless to say 3 months later the vehicle is still running fine and none of these "repairs" were performed. The only reason I didn't have these repairs done was because Group One was honest enough to not do work that wasn't needed on my car. When it comes to vehicle maintenance I would rather pay more once for quality work and peace of mind than find the lowest bidder and hope they know what they are doing. What's great is compared to a dealer and most of the european specialist shops in town Group One is on par if not slightly less for most of their work. I found this place on Yelp and thought it might come in handy since my car is old and has issues every few months! This place really prides themselves on excellent customer service and I can see why! I had to take my car in to fix my brakes and I don't trust just anyone with this kind of thing since not everyone knows how to deal with European cars. Their service was friendly and efficient. Although it took 2 days to get my car fixed instead of 1 like they tried to do, they did get me a loaner car in the meantime so I could get to work and wouldn't be stranded. I'm not sure if they always wash your car with any service or just when it's a big job. I thought their pricing was a bit high compared to SoCal standards for what I needed to get fixed, but they do wash your car and give you a loaner if you need one, so I'm sure that goes into the pricing as well. They don't give price quotes on the phone I guess b/c they don't want to actually look and see that there's more to fix than you thought and give you a higher price. They also have a nice & very clean Client Lounge area if you need to wait for something for a while. In the short time I'm in Tucson, I HOPE I don't have to come back to fix anything else, fixing cars is not cheap! read more

I last reviewed Group One in 2014. Since then I have taken several different vehicles to them, and they have a new location...so a new review is in order. The new location is great. It is on Dodge, just south of the River. You can throw a ball to Brandi Fenton Park and the JCC. It has easy access to all parts of town. The shop waiting area is bright and sunny -- with huge, windowed garage doors open to the outside. There is TV and snacks. If you have a quick job, it's a nice place to wait. The workshop is brand spanking new. Modern and clean. As for the work -- I just purchased a 14 year old BMW. It came with some recommendations for small repairs from another shop. I took it to Group One, they diagnosed the same and took care of everything on time and as promised. This is a solid, honest shop. It's convenient. They go out of their way to help. read more

I really wanted to give Group One Motorwerks five stars. It has a comfortable, homey atmosphere and the employees are friendly and accommodating. But no amount of friendly customer service or pleasant decor is worth the exorbitant prices they charge for their services. Encouraged by the positive reviews here on Yelp, I went to Motorwerks to get my brake lights repaired. The guy who worked there informed me that the initial inspection starts at $100, but the cost of repair may be more depending on the "severity" of the problem. The next day, Motorwerks called to inform me that my brake light switch needed to be replaced. The total cost for parts, labor, and inspection would be $285. This sounded steep to me, so I told the man I would get back to him. I did some research to find out how much a simple brake switch repair costs in the Tucson area... and wasn't surprised to discover that it was about half as much. Concerned that I was being ripped off, I rang up one of Motorwerks' competitors and asked for a quote. They told me that the cost to repair a brake switch was $50 in labor, plus the cost of parts (around $40) -- a total of $90. I understand that businesses reap a profit by up-selling car parts, and that cost of labor is (justifiably) steep, but $285 is egregious -- over $100 more than their competitors. This job is an easy do-it-yourself fix that can be done, at home, for roughly $30 (you can buy the parts slightly cheaper if you do it yourself). It takes an amateur thirty minutes of labor. What could possibly justify a $100 overcharge? When I questioned the management why I was being charged so much for a relatively simple fix, all I received were shifty evasions and non-answers. He wouldn't even answer how long the repairs would take. When he started to compare his business to a "high-scale restaurant," where the price is based on ambiance and customer service, I decided to call it quits. Take your business elsewhere; Motorwerk's primary concern is squeezing every cent out of an ignorant customer. read more

We left our Smart Car for servicing while we went on vacation for 3 weeks to Mexico. We had a list of things that we wanted them to do. Upon receiving their email back from them with the estimates for repairs, we were astounded at the crazy, and we do mean CRAZY, prices. We decided NOT to do the things we initially wanted done. We understand that servicing cars made by Mercedes can be expensive, but my god, are you kidding me? In the end it cost us $1,450 for replacing front brake pads, rotors (which I know the car didn't need, as I had inspected the rotors myself before dropping it off), and new CV shaft seals. (I'm guessing these were not needed, either, as there was never any fluid leakage). Do the math! Oh, and by the way, that wonderful price included replacing the car's 3 spark plugs. Guess how much to replace 3 spark plugs, something I could easily have done myself? Go ahead, guess?! Job total for replacing 3 spark plugs.....$254.50!! These plugs can be found anywhere (Bosche) for about $8 each, at the most. Are you freaking kidding me?? They knew they had us, as we live 2 hours away, and were returning from vacation, and needed the car to get home. About all I have to say good about this place is that they paid for our Uber to and from the airport. NEVER, EVER AGAIN WILL I DO BUSINESS WITH THIS FIRM!! Maybe they're okay. Just not for me. I had a forlorn Porsche that needed to have a coolant leak diagnosed. They told me what was leaking but, "It (the car) is not worth fixing and you should have it towed to a junkyard." Still charged me, too. Thanks, I needed that. It's a project car! Fer christsake! Another time I called for a little advice (and maybe an appointment) and the lady said she'd have to call me back. It's a couple of months later and I'm still waiting. They don't like old cars and don't seem to like do-it-yourselfers. The owner's got 30 years of experience, and doesn't hesitate to tell you. Nice facilities, arrogant attitude. I own a 1995 280 Mercedes that Bart and Group One have taken care of for almost 3 years. Simply my vehicle has over 300K miles and it is still running great due to the efforts of Group One. Bart has always been very upfront with resolution of current and Pending issues giving excellent customer services AND repair. Group One's availability of a ride to pick me up when my vehicle is ready and e-mails to remind me of next necessary oil changes and other services is greatly appreciated! Bart has also been fair with each estimate provided. I have recently moved to the Phoenix area and was on Yelp looking at reviews of the local Mercedes shop Bart recommended, which are stellar. I've reviewed this place before, but as best as I can tell they had my review taken down. Too honest? Not sure why. It was a long one, and I don't have the patience to write it again. Bottom line - these guys do NOT know what they are doing with classic Mercedes and yet instead of being honest and recommending another shop, any other shop, they will happily quote BIG bucks to make repairs. In the end, their "diagnosis" in my experience was never right and would have cost stupid money without even fixing the problem. Maybe they are good with new cars that just tell you what is wrong with them when you plug in the big dollar diagnostic computer. However, when it comes time to do some real mechanic work and diagnose an older car they just cannot. Avoid at all costs if you have an older German car. read more

New to Tucson it was daunting to try to find a mechanic you can trust. But when my BMW had a major mechanical issue I am thankful to have found this company. They were amazing how they worked with us to address the major repair and front office could not be better, more polite, kind and respectful. The customer service was just superior and she treated us like old friends. Simply amazing. They provided routine updates on my repair and came in under the estimate! What other mechanic would charge the lesser price when they could've easily just tacked on the difference and we would have been none the wiser? One of the problems when you own a BMW is finding a repair shop that knows what they are doing and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg to do it. Group One Motorwerks fixed my car with no problem when I was on the road. A lot of auto repair shops will take advantage of you when they know you don't have a choice. Not this place! The service on the car is great - not only do I have enormous confidence in the expertise of those who work on the car, but I appreciate that I'm always advised and consulted about the work that's planned before anything is started. I've been taking my Smart car there for many years and recently lost it in an accident. When I was having tremendous difficulty finding a new Smart to replace the old one, Group One went above and beyond reasonable expectations to locate a replacement. It's easy to take for granted that your car is well cared for at a shop, but when you, as the owner feel well cared for, that is a whole different level of customer service!
