We just bought a house and literally every single metal pier in the crawlspace was rusted out. Bay Are Underpinning came in and did an awesome job. Then, the repair crew of Eric, Jesus, and Andrew came in and knocked out the entire job in a day -- a huge relief considering we had a ton of other work we need to get done before moving in. We needed to get some piers installed to stabilize but also correct some settling on our decades old house. We hired Groundworks (Bay Area Underpinning at the time). They were more competitive than others in terms of price, but at the same time the team they sent out was super experienced and very professional. We signed on in Jan, and they initially gave us a May timeframe but we were able to get a late March date. It seems they are pretty booked out, which makes a lot of sense to me. The team they send over (David, Russell, Enrique) were super professional and friendly. They answered all the questions we had and communicated the progress/status updates all the time. There were definitely a few surprises as they started the dig, but the team was able to tackle them all and keep the project on schedule. read more

We had a significant foundation problem in our home that required underpinning. We got a contract with EagleLift, but by the time the work was to be done, both EagleLift and Bay Area Underpinning had been acquired by Groundworks. And, after some internal company reorganizations, a team from the former Bay Area Underpinning was now assigned to our job. I started wondering "now what could possibly go wrong with this plan?!" But then on the appointed day, Melvin and his team showed up to do the work. Everything actually went according to plan. Further, my original EagleLift contract specified some additional work that it seems Bay Area Underpinning would not in normal circumstances contract to do. But they cheerfully agreed to the terms of the EagleLift contract and everything got done according to plan. No drama. No delays. Just calm, friendly competence from Melvin and his team. All three were complete professionals while completing the project. They treated our home with respect (placed plastic to protect our floors and walls as needed), cleaned up after each work day, and kept us informed on how the job was progressing. We went with encapsulation due to each time we had heavy rain, the crawl space would get standing water/muddy (it comes up from the ground). Unfortunately we had a heavy rain storm the first couple days of the encapsulation project, and as such the crawl space turned into a muddy mess. Aaron, Andrew and Carlos would come out of the crawl space looking like they had just completed a mud wrestling match. They kept a positive attitude, and pushed through the challenges of the muddy crawl space to get the project completed. Do not contact this company, and do not be misled by their professional appearance. The quality of their work is poor, and their follow-up warranty service is virtually nonexistent. I had major foundation repair work completed by EagleLift (now part of Groundworks) in 2023. The project included underpinning the perimeter foundation with more than 20 push piers and replacing approximately 50 crawl-space posts. Problems began on day one. Even after this costly repair, several areas of the house remained unlevel. EagleLift attempted to correct the issue but was unable to do so. The situation worsened after EagleLift became part of Groundworks. Groundworks has failed to respond to my service requests, despite my 25-year warranty being part of the contract. As a result, I had to spend additional time and money to completely replace the portion of the foundation where the issues were most severe. Other areas that were repaired by Groundworks still have unresolved problems, and I have received no response to my warranty claims. More than two years later, I am still waiting for any meaningful follow-up from their warranty service. read more

Quote was scheduled for area code 92405 and Justin was given the task of providing quote. A lot of unanswered questions and the feeling of not wanting to be helped prompted me to go to Saber foundation which they gave me an actual quote assessment, showed me what was going to be done and an actual solution. Justin from Groundworks identified the crawl space of not being over 18 inches and immediately declined doing work and stated space needed to be cleared. I was ok with that, but Justin made it cleared that there was nothing that can be done and never returned my proposed solutions as far as clearing some space. It seems to me as if they didn't really care to help and didn't make any effort to gain my business. Saber came out and didn't state anything about clearance issues which tells me Groundworks is either to good for this repair or is to lazy for their fat employees to fit under my crawlspace. Either way it doesn't matter to me, I'm glad Saber found a solution the first time and are scheduled for repair as soon as proposal is approved by city. The soil under my house has always been damp in the winter, but this past year I actually had standing water. The hardworking Groundworks crew came out and created a sump pump system for me. They had to do a lot of digging, but I had very little to clean up after they left. The foreman, Ryan, was very professional and good with his crew. I was very impressed with Cody Wellner who came to give me a quote to just keep 1/4 of my building from sinking any further. He took photos in my crawlspace to show me the cracks that I can't see as well as showed me the cracks on the outside. I asked if I should put support in other parts of my building and he said it isn't needed. Because he didn't try to upsell me which I have felt other companies did try, I felt this company is one I could trust. The whole process was incredibly easy. I made an appointment with GW, I told them I'm hours away round trip and would arrive a day earlier so I'd be there the next day. They called the night before and asked to change my appointment one hour later-no problem. The next day an hour before my appointment they wanted to change it to the next day. I needed to get back home and there was no way I could stay. I'd already lost 11/2 of work. I get a call from their appointment department stating I cancelled my appointment and do I want to reschedule. So the rep Adam lied to her, saying I cancelled, WRONG, he failed to keep his appointment!! No apology, no return calls.
