Finding a good strong and hot cup of coffee every day is a big part of our travel experience. In our recent trip to Maine, despite having done loads of internet investigations to find the best coffee shops, we had both hits and misses - some great coffee drinks, and some that were really poor (i.e., weak, luke warm, etc.).
Our coffee drinks at Grounded were among the best we've had in Maine - or anywhere, for that matter! Grounded is a relatively new coffee shop located about a mile north of Wiscasset on Gardiner Road (Route 27). You won't see it if you are walking around the cute little village of Wiscasset, but it is definitely worth the short drive out of town. The flat white that we ordered was made exactly as we had requested - hot and strong! They use coffee from a roaster called Coffee on the Porch, which we had heard great things about, but had not previously tried. The flat white was rich, smooth, and flavorful.
I should also mention the excellent service and attitude of owner Kalei. The shop was actually closed when we arrived, due to Kalei having been at a special event in town earlier that day, but she opened the shop for us, kindly made us an exceptional flat white, and chatted with us about her new shop. If you are looking for great coffee in this part of Maine, please go to Grounded, and you will be very glad that you did! read more
