On September 20, 2025, I brought my 2013 Audi S4 to Grosse Pointe Auto with the intention of supporting a local neighborhood business. My vehicle was in excellent condition at the time of the visit. The purpose of the service appointment was an oil change and a general maintenance inspection. After six days, I picked up my car, having paid $1,407.25 for the services. Upon starting the vehicle, multiple electronic alarms sounded immediately. The warnings included issues such as a right headlight out, ride height sensor malfunction, and a notification that an oil change was required. These alarms were evident when the mechanic moved my car from the service bay to the street, indicating they were likely aware of the problems. Despite these issues, the mechanic did not investigate the cause of the alarms. When I raised the concerns with the manager, he opened the hood and observed that a cable had been left in the engine compartment. He commented that he instructs "employees to double-check their work". The manager attempted unsuccessfully to disable the alarms and advised me to return on September 26, 2025, at 9:00 AM for further repairs. No apologies were offered, even though my car was in worse condition than when I had originally brought it in. When I returned on September 26, the same manager informed me that they would not inspect the car. Instead, he shifted blame for the vehicle's problems onto me and suggested I speak with the owner regarding my concerns. I ultimately took my car to a different automotive repair shop. The mechanics there discovered several issues resulting from the previous service: * The right headlight was disconnected. * Wires for the disconnected headlight were dangling and had damaged other components. * The right front fascia and lights had been poorly and improperly repaired * Both the right and left bumper covers, as well as the headlamp housing, required realignment due to incorrect installation. * The left and right ride height sensors with linkage needed replacement, * The garage door opening system could not be repaired due to the nature of the damage All necessary repairs stemmed from Grosse Pointe Auto's work and cost an additional $281.78. I anticipate further expenses for a new garage door opener. Based on my experience, I strongly advise avoiding Grosse Pointe Auto. In my opinion, competency and customer service are not part of their offerings. read more

Long story short, they destroyed my exhaust while doing another repair. They even pointed to and admitted to causing the damage, explaining how it likely happened. Then I was under the impression, after an apologetic call that they would take care of it. They said bring it in. We'll take care of it. Then I called to check the status and the newer guy told me that they weren't going to do anything. Nightmare experience! My vehicle is basically totaled. When I took it in, it was quiet. I took my car in for routine maintenance and was promised that after paying almost $1500 that the heat will be fixed along with the other small issues. Ryan came off as a nice person but was really an unprofessional asshole who allowed his employees to drive my vehicle without my permission. When I dropped my car off, I had more than half a tank of gas. I got my car back with 0 miles, and he insisted that it was only driven 10 miles to test their work. On top of that they insisted that they fixed the heat and that it was blowing but less than 24 hours after picking my car up no heat is working in the car and they say that I must've blown my blower motor in the time that I picked the car up less than 24 hours ago yesterday afternoon. Brought in my wife's car (mid 2000s Nissan Maxima) after a light came on indicating a solenoid issue. The car was with GP Auto Repair for 6 days and apparently the problem was related to the car's computer, and not worth the cost of a new one given the car's age and higher mileage (this trip cost us about $275). After picking up the car we noticed that the fuel gauge was no longer functional. When we returned on the next business day we were informed that they couldn't be held responsible as they fuel gauge was not what they were working on for the 6 days they had our car. They told us they would take a look, but asked us to sign a form saying we would pay an additional $90 for them to investigate. We refused and they agreed to check it out. When picking up the car the next day we were told the broken fuel gauge was due to a power surge that had occurred during the prior 6 day investigation. No explanation as to their change in perspective, but now at least they owned up responsibility for the new issue. I should also note that we also have new battery issues, but having our car back and never needing to return to GP Auto was by far our most favored option. Strong thumbs down. Hate to do this but I don't have a choice. Took the car in to simply get tire plugged (as there was a nail in tire). Figured I would have them look at the rear tails lights (they would turn on randomly ... car could be off for hours & the lights would come on). Well, it took them 'days' to look it over & when I picked it up they said they fixed it. The minute I get it home, the lights are still doing the same thing almost as if they did NOTHING. I asked Dwayne that since they didn't fix the issue could they put the (any??) money I already paid towards the actual problem. I was told no. Wth? That is some VERY bad customer service. My ex husband who owns the car wouldn't even reimburse me either as he said he would not pay for 'my mistake'.... as if I AM supposed to know the internal circuitry of the cars lighting. Smh. My wife and I have mostly taken our cars here for repairs and routine maintenance since we moved to the area 4 years ago. I really appreciate their honesty and professionalism. In one instance a local dealership quoted us $1800 to repair the suspension on my wife's 2009 4Runner. These guys said most of the work that the dealership said was required was, in fact, not. They did what was needed for ~$700. About 60,000 miles later and it's running strong. Another time we had them replace the brake pads, rotors and calipers all around. The parking brake mechanism seized up in one of the rear wheels shortly thereafter which made the truck squeak rhythmically at speed. We took it back and they quickly repaired/replaced it for free. They have definitely earned our trust. read more

Great experience for quick tire repair. Saw (luckily) a nail in my tire, it wasn't flat yet, I wasn't sure where to get it fixed but driving by I saw GP Auto Repair was still open around 5pm. So I ran in to ask about fixing it and they said they would look at it right away. Fortunately it was fixable, they did it right then in the middle of what they were already doing, took maybe 20 min. $21. I really appreciated the help, even if they couldn't do it right then it was nice to be able to go in and talk to someone who cared. read more

They work on all types of cars: new and old, ordinary and exotic. I live in the neighborhood and often see vintage muscle cars or European sports cars waiting for service. I would not allow these guys to work on any vehicle. I made an appointment to insure they could start right away. They had the vehicle for over a week. I called every day and was told "Oh we will get on it and call you back later today" and they never did call me. In the end I had to pay for them to look at it but they never do any work. When I got the vehicle back there was grease on the carpet (new carpet BTW) and greasy hand print on the door and steering wheel. Made an appointment to have an oil change and tire rotation. I was concerned about time to have the work done. When I made the appointment I mentioned it was an old Ranger. The shop assured me that if I had it to them by 8:30 in the morning they would complete it by noon. I dropped it off at 4 am and walked home. They called and woke me just before 10 and it went to voicemail. They claimed they wanted more information. When called back two minuets later I confirmed my name and address then I lost the call. I called back and was told they had all they needed and the shop hung up on me. After 12 o'clock I called to say I was coming down to get the truck. They said they had not started the work and would check on it and put me on hold, they hung up on me while on hold. I continued to walk to pick it up. I called and told them not to do the work I will take it somewhere else. They said ok. When I picked up the keys they said "If I had known you needed it so early I would have squeezed you in " Even if my time concern had not been covered while making the appointment, you do not need to "squeeze in" someone who has an appointment. My tips: Customers: If you do not have a high vehicle do not bother, move on. Businesses: If you do not want the work do not make the appointment or give a quote so high that the customer goes elsewhere. It is common practice and we both would have saved time. read more

I should have written a review a long time ago - These guys REALLY know what they are doing folks - anyone who says otherwise is clueless. Not only are they really nice, but honest, hard working, always willing to go the extra miles, or MILES.. and will not rip you off. They can work on just about anything - old cars, newer cars, and will dig deep to solve bizarre problems. They're up front about their pricing, which is extremely reasonable, and will even use your parts if you need them to. It's really hard to find actual MECHANICS nowadays.. generally you find auto "techs" who are only capable of reading what the computer tells them, and turn basic wrenches left and right... any car more than 5 years old needs real attention. I have yet to give them something they haven't seen before.. go here, and nowhere else! read more

When it comes to auto repair, I'm generally suspect, so when I went shopping for a garage in this rather high-end neighborhood outside motor city, I was psyched to have my little, too-loudly-purring Honda in solid, trust-worthy, and remarkably average-priced hands. These guys were able to do a pretty basic tuneup, oil change & tire rotation for under a hundred bucks (I came with a belt making bad noises, some battery issues, and general wear and tear from a 7,000 mile roadtrip). They were friendly and professional, fit me in with very short notice, and didn't try and sell me on any additional (read: "necessary" or "highly recommended" at other, shady repair shops) services. Should I ever find myself back in Detroit, this is definitely where I'd take my four-wheeled friend. 4/5 stars only because the repair work was really basic and, small thing, they weren't real quick on letting me know when the car was done (I wound up calling them a couple times throughout the day), though I'd imagine if I'd told them I was in a hurry they'd have been more on top of it. read more

I took my car here for a oil change, at a family members suggestion. They were wonderful, so I decided to take my car back to them for a major repair, new transmission, for my 2016 Nissan Altima. They have had my car a month, I was told 4 days maximum, I had to make all calls to my warranty company. The person that should have been doing that spent his time lying and covering up how badly he dropped the ball. I am so disappointed in this shop, For a simple oil change they are good, but don't do major repairs here. I will have any further repairs done elsewhere. Just waiting now to see what they think they're lack of competence and lack of professionalism is worth. I was given and appointment that morning and my car was taken in and inspected for brake repair issues. I was called within a short period of time and given the results of their inspection. I told them to go ahead and make the repairs. They advised me of the difference in prices of OEM parts and equally as good parts available from other vendors They said they would order the required parts and would begin repairs when they arrived. GP Auto Repair is terrible!! I took my car in because I knew there was something wrong when starting it and they didn't take me seriously. They told me nothing was wrong with my car even though they "checked everything" and surely enough, a week later my car was stuck in the village because it wouldn't start. They're slow with their service and they're bad at communicating. I had to call them multiple times to get any information about my car. I do not recommend using them. I was visiting family in Grosse Pointe when my car started to make an awful sound. Grosse Pointe Auto was the closest repair shop. I left my car and Nick drove me to where I was staying 4 miles away. By the next morning he has diagnosed the problem and had a price. I called my mechanic in Chicago who felt that the diagnosis was accurate and the price was very reasonable. I currently own three used cars and these guys keep all of them running better than when i bought them. The vehicles are repaired on time and sometimes early. They are open 'til 3 pm on Saturdays and they'll give you a ride home if you live nearby. reasonable hourly rate and they also gave me good recommendation on a body shop for a strut tower repair that they couldn't take care of. I've owned 40 cars, these guys are the best mechanics i've found. They fix what needs to be fixed and let you know what can wait. You have to be able to trust the people that are working on your car, and that is the last thing you can do with these people. If you do not know much about cars they will take advantage of you at every turn trying to squeeze every penny they can out of you. They take days working on your car and say they will communicate the problem with you only to blow you off and wondering what the hell is going on. I brought my car in to fix an electrical system problem. A week after they said they 'fixed' it the problem continued so I brought it back. They charged me again saying they found more problems they didnt see the first time. I was charged almost $800. Fast forward 6 months later and the problems are still there. Grosse Pointe Auto messed up my brake. The mechanic who work on my brake job totally messed up my brand new brake pads. I have to take my car back to them three times before it was done right. Not to mention I have to missed a day of my trip. They also told me that I have a oil leak. So I just told them to go ahead and fix it. Man, It was Terrible! I didn't noticed the oil leak again until I arrived in Maryland. For the whole week I was concerned about the entire trip. It seems like they don't know what the heck they're doing!
