I went to only get a diagnosis on my vehicle. I had to give them a call in order to find out if my car was done being looked at and once someone answered I was told to come grab my car. I got my paper work and left. While driving only one black my car started to smoke and would not start. I already was having a small issue with accelerating but nothing else. I couldn't start my car at ALL. I called the shop to only ask what did they do and the guy started to speak over me and tell me what issues my car had, which was fine but I wanted to know what they exactly did because I didn't have this issue before. He started to speak over me again and said " it just got worst" I understand that anything could happen but why did it happen AFTER they had my car? I was willing to have them work on my car but the employee and my service wasn't the best. I'm not mad or upset I just wished my car didn't have these issues. I ended up going to a Ford Dealership and they mentioned that the reason why I had those issues with my car afterwards is because they didn't put a coil/spark plug in correctly. The dealership fixed my car and everything works perfectly. This plan wasn't the best experience with me but it might be yours. I know they've been open for years so maybe my experience wasn't the best. read more

This place is amazing! The workers are so nice and honest! I thought I ran over a nail and they told me it would be $15 for a plug and about a 20 minutes wait. While I was waiting, I made small talk with the office workers and they even offered me a donut and water. A few minutes later they told me the "nail" turned out to be a small screw and it didn't puncture my tire. They didn't charge me for the patch! I went here after stopping at Goodyear a few blocks away. Goodyear told me that because of the location, I would need a new tire. It's terrible how dishonest some repairs shops can be. I've been slacking on Yelp reviews big time so the area administrator sent me a friendly note that I might be in danger of losing my coveted elite badge that I use for, er, absolutely nothing. So here begins, hopefully, a flurry of year end reviews coming down like Michigan November snow. Nobody likes taking their vehicle to the mechanic. I know I dread it. Your car's life in their hands, Dude! They might way overcharge you. (Thank goodness for Googling estimated repair costs and the red flags you might find here on Yelp.) They might try to sell you on a bunch of extra work you don't even need. *cough cough* Goodyear down the block. I didn't fall for it there, but I've been burned before. I'm happy to tell you I've always gotten a fair shake at Campus Auto Repair. I've taken my Ford Explorer here several times and they've never done me wrong. I'd run down the repairs they've done, but I don't even want to dredge up the memories of everything I've needed done to my high mileage truck in the 4 years I've had it. They're not always the quickest but they get it done right. They've even gone above and beyond, giving me a ride to my restaurant job a couple miles away when I dropped the Silver Bull off in the morning. (Yeah, I nicknamed my truck. Sue me.) One time they even carpooled a mom and her son along with me on my courtesy ride. (I had no problem letting him drop them off first. They were in a time crunch while I left myself extra time for my truckless morning commute. Everybody was so cool in that ersatz Uber.) Honestly, Campus Auto Repair probably deserves five stars but personal issues of frustration and resentment prevent me from giving any mechanic five stars. I left my car here for some warranty work (had to go somewhere in network). They didn't even call to start the warranty claim until over a week later (after i called them). Then it took 2 months for them to replace the transmission after they already had the parts. The only time I ever heard from them with updates was if I would call them. Campus got me together yesterday well the workers did but they were at a location down the street because they were building the new Campus Repair. I got a flat while driving on i75. I googled a tire shop and they popped up. I called to see if they had a tire for me and they did. The last one actually and he informed me that he'd set it aside for me. They even gave me a number to a reasonable tow truck. When I got there after waiting 2 hours for the tow there was a woman there who was trying to buy my tire. The owner kept his word and kept that tire there for me. He didn't let her purchase it because I gave him my word that I was definitely coming. They did everything so fast and I can honestly say every man in that shop treated me with respect and they were all so friendly. I'm definitely coming back here whenever I need work done. read more

We are so thankful we stumbled upon this small but amazing repair shop! On our son's very first day of college in August of 2018 (the day we moved him to campus for the first time in his life) Yaya (the shop manager) at Campus Auto cheerfully welcomed our unannounced arrival at their shop and promptly installed a new battery in our son's 2004 Ford Explorer. In less than an hour, both our son and his car were happily on their way to all the adventures awaiting him in college. Furthermore, his mother and I were able to return to our home, over two hours away, comforted by the fact that he and his car were in the very capable care of Campus Auto. More recently, in February of 2019, our son called us to say that the rusty but trusty Ford Explorer that we had handed down to him (with well nearly 320,000 miles on it) was suddenly running very rough. His voice trembled as he expressed his fear that this car, which he has loved so much since he rode in it as a tiny child, might finally be at the end of its life. The thought of losing his beloved car terrified him. After a brief phone call from me from my home over 2 hours away (at nearly 6pm no less), YaYa immediately arranged for our son's car to be pushed out of the college parking ramp and towed to Campus Auto. The next morning they promptly figured out what was wrong and quickly informed both us and our son that his car would live to see another day. Not only was this very happy news for us and our son, they completed the repairs in far less time than we expected and at a far lower price than we could have hoped, even incorporating the cost of the towing into the final bill. Yaya cheerfully agreed to let us, as his parents, pay for the repair over the phone and, when our son picked up his repaired car, he immediately called us to gleefully report that his car was running better than ever! The joy and relief in his voice nearly brought us to tears. As parents of a child who is very busy adjusting to college life in a big city far away from his home and family, we cannot adequately express how comforting it is for us to know that YaYa and his staff at Campus Auto will be taking very good care of him and his car for the next 4 years. read more

First time my window was squeaking; the guy could have charged me to take it apart & figure out why, but instead he told me it was likely from the rain & to give it a day. Sound went away on its own. It felt nice to know he was honest and not just looking to make money off customers. Second time I went in my brakes were making a funny noise after being replaced at a different shop; they took apart one of the brakes, noted one of the parts was misaligned, and realigned it for the cost of 30 min of labor ($45). Again, he could have tried to sell me some new parts (because I honestly don't know anything about cars) but he didn't. Even fully explained to me what had been wrong with my brake & how they fixed it. Honesty & transparency are hugely appreciated & I'll be going back here next time I need car work done. Long story short I woke up with a flat tire. I had an appointment at the Goodyear across the street for a plug but they had mostly 1 star reviews and one of the reviews recommended this place because they're 2 blocks away and much faster. I called and explain the situation to owner, he told me to come right in. I drove over and my car was on a hoist in less than 10 minutes. They found the nail, they plugged the car, they charged $17 (which was good considering how quickly they fixed my tire) and I was on my way. The guy Rick at the desk was super friendly and cool. Campus Auto is great because the mechanics are honest and will not pressure you into "repairs" your car does not need. We have been visiting them for several years now and had them perform services ranging from simple oil changes to extensive suspension work. They do not take appointments so, if possible, it is best to drop your car off early in the morning during a non-holiday week. That said, when they work on your car, they get it done quickly. They've never kept our car overnight. A recent experience will illustrate why Rick and the crew are so awesome: We took our car to the dealership for a recall and asked them to quote us for some repairs to address a clunk that happened every time we drove over a pothole. The dealer charged us $50 to diagnose the car and then quoted us $2500 in repairs. They wanted to replace the whole front suspension on the vehicle. We decided to go to campus auto for a second opinion. They were able to take our car in right away (no appointment needed). After examining the vehicle, they quoted us $650 to address the same issue. The cost savings, they explained, came from their willingness to put in a little more labor so they only had to replace a few parts on the car. Any mechanic who is willing to do extra work to save their customers' some money is alright in my book. I would send my grandparents to see these guys. read more

Most importantly, I've been around the block and their pricing and service time is very fair. YaYa is wonderful and Jay was very helpful. They even have a financing option (thru a 3rd party tho so mind the details. Pay it off in less than 100 days yourself, don't depend on the monthly withdrawals bc you'll severely overpay). I took my car there when my rear brakes were locking up, so I asked told them what I suspected was wrong, and it was nice they could repair it the same day. They did change the brake linings and drums, that wasn't necessary, but after learning of my concerns, they say they are willing to refund the labor (for installing the drums), which does make me happy. I'd been looking for some new car guys because I felt like I needed a fresh perspective on my hoop ride. One of my professors had recommended Capmus Auto Repair a while back. If they could make HER happy, I knew it was worth checking out. Another friend had also backed up their service. After shelling out tons of money to both the dealer mechanics (pretty much dumb as nails) and some previous car dudes, I felt hopeless about figuring out what the problem was. But it also seemed small enough to ignore for a while. Until the last couple weeks...I had been losing sleep thinking that my transmission was about to go and trying to figure out how on my grad student salary I could either afford a transmission overhaul or a new (used) car. I dropped by one morning during the week and Rick took a spin with me. I sheepishly asked him if he thought it was the transmision, and he was like, no, I don't (PHEW!). His thought was that it could be something small; however, if he replaced/fixed those things, he couldn't guarantee that would solve stuff. It was only about $80 to do what he thought might be the case, so I went for it. And, heck, it worked!!! Now my poor little car is doing much better, and I'm not driving around in fear that it's going to konk out on me. They had it done within a few hours, and he even gave me a ride to work. Rick and Larry have been my car guys for about 8 years. I started going there during medical school. The prices are fair (plus they've always taken into account that I was a student/resident). They took great care of my 2000 Ford Focus and put it on palliative care when it was time. I've referred many people to them and never had a complaint. They've even told me when it was appropriate to go to the dealer (it would have taken them days to get the part, but the dealer could hav it the next day).
