I later found out she discriminates against pit bulls and is only "unable to service" certain dogs. Definitely recommend! One of my dogs is very vocal and they are always so kind about his barking. My dogs also don't like being left and they are very sweet when taking them back. When I pick my babies up they are always happy and never seem scared. I appreciate that I'm always asked what I would like each time in case I want to switch it up. I usually just say the same and get a consistent outcome. My biggest thing is I trust them to treat my dogs with care. That is invaluable to me. Bella's quest to find the perfect groomer near the Galleria has come to an end!!! Finally, a Groomer who takes their time and shows compassion for little Princesses like my Bella. I was really impressed with Ms. Lisa, her Mom and Staff. This was our first time here for a Groom. Wasn't for sure how it was going to go but I was pleasantly surprised. Ms. Lisa runs a tight ship and was able to squeeze us in last week. Ms. Lisa and her shop is very nice. She groomed Bella perfectly. The groom was not rushed and was completed in a timely manner. Best of all, Bella looks fabulous, smells good and her backside is not chaffed like it had been before too often with other groomers. I like seeing her staff being so friendly and helpful. I took my Pomeranian dog to get groomed. That same day at night, I observed a strange behavior in him. Something was causing him pain & discomfort. When I checked him the next day in the morning I realized that they left cotton in both of his ears. I called the owner of the grooming place and she told me to take him & that she would remove them. I did and she did not even give me an apology, I had to take the dog to the vet to administer something for the pain, I never went back there & i would definitely not recommend the place or groomer. They put my dog's life in danger and not even an apology or a call to see if my dog was better. read more

Love this place! I just moved away & I plan on making the drive to take my dog here. If you drop off early & they aren't busy, they'll do their best and work around your schedule (I like to pick up my Lhasa on my lunch break). Other reviewers talked about them shaving dogs in certain spots & I've had that happen to mine but that's when the dog has knots all over, if they have time they can try to brush it out instead of cutting for a fee but if they do that they'd hurt your dog trying to brush it out. My biggest compliment is that my dog WALKS RIGHT UP TO THE DOOR AND WILL WALK INTO THE BACK WITHOUT SAYING BYE TO ME! It's the craziest thing, she's scared of everywhere else & I usually have to drag/pick her up to take her somewhere but she's obviously loved and taken care of by Lisa and her crew. read more

I found out about this place through the informal dog-park based shih tzu network (thanks, Ken and others!), as the owner is involved with shih tzu rescue, and our two dogs are rescued tzu, um... mixes. We think. Anyway, this adorable shop is located between Chimney Rock and Hillcroft, tucked quietly into the end of a small shopping plaza. I'd never have spotted it on my own, and it does seem to mostly operate by word-of-mouth. Once you pass the delicious Magnolia restaurant you're almost there. Everyone who works here is very friendly. There are two resident fat, lazy cats, and two shih tzus (one is 16 years old!) who sleep behind the counter during the day. Peeking into the back revealed all manner of cute small dogs of various breeds- definitely not just tzus. I was so bummed that I forgot one of my dog's medicated shampoo, but Lisa has medicated shampoos for various skin conditions on hand for such cases. She does the full grooming workup- fur, nails, ears, and even the dreaded, um, glands. (Small dog owners, you know what I mean.) She took in stride that London tries to rip into anyone who touches his feet or butt, and because she works with mostly small dogs, she had an appropriate muzzle on hand. She wouldn't even have mentioned his nippiness if I hadn't asked about it specifically. (We used to have to hold him while the groomer tended to him in Chicago.) I'm very picky about, well, everything... and I want my dogs to look adorable and feel soft (and not smell, which with London's skin condition is tough). London came back looking like a little grey bear, and Mei, who looks a bit like an alien anyway, was also pretty cute. (I'll ask for the top of her head to be a touch shorter next time.) Very good shaping on the body- although the true test will be in the cooler months when we let the hair grow out a bit. (Shih tzus have hair, not fur - meaning they don't shed, but their hair grows like ours does- hence the need for grooming.) Great first experience getting my Australian labradoodle washed and groomed. I had been doing it myself for the last year and finally decided to turn to the pros. Check-in was easy and they seemed to genuinely care how I wanted my dog's hair cut. This was translated to Lisa perfectly. She looks great. Pricing was very reasonable and cheaper than some others - it all depends on the size of your dog. They called me as soon as she was finished but I waited until after work to pickup. I NEVER HAD AND SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU ABOUT GROOMING BY LISA. WE HAVE A PENELOPE, WHO IS A Labradoodle, 3rd geeration who we adopted or she adopted us at 6 weeks old. October the 8th 2021 she was ten. I only tell you this because for more than 9 of those years, Lisa has taken amazing care of our nonhuman child. We tried two groomers prior to finding lisa; one dropped her the other cut her ear. I remember talking with her the first time, her concern was to keep her from being afraid and said bring in tomorrow, even if its just to meet her and comb her hair. When arrived and she came out, sat down and she went right to her and although friendly she is very much a two Daddies girl. so, we knew we found the perfect person for Penelope. She always liked to go and you see that she knows she safe and goes right to her always. She has a gift for style, and I asked her one thing; to not let her look like a poodle and that was it. When we picked her up, she was so happy to not being wearing her full fur and her body was sheared which was pretty and the longer hair she kept on her paws and head which was the perfect style to make her unusual, not ever has she been mistaken as a poodle and her hair is beautiful long but it isn't fair to her to keep that coat all the time. She looks smaller without her hair but still beautiful. That is from many many people that have stopped and expressed that to her and us. We first realized that being safe,happy, and well taken care was what was most important. So, I would tell you to run to Lisa and I guarantee you will be as happy and comfortable knowing your pet that like Penelope is part of the family is in great hands. So, we have had over nine years of experience and can tell you without a doubt if not the finest groomer in the city, in the top 5. But being safe and wanting to see Miss Lisa to us said it all. I had a foster dog that I tried 3 other groomers with and none of them were able to groom her because she was SO afraid of people, it was so sad :( she was with me for about a month, and I was one of only a few people she trusted. I was transporting her by plane to NJ and I really wanted her to look her best for her new mommy. By recommendation from some other volunteers with the rescue, I tried Lisa as one last effort. I was so happy Lisa was able to get the job done. and without making her scared. She said she realized what she was afraid of were the clippers, so she used only scissors. I have been taking my 2 shih tzus here for months. Not only do they only get the hair the right length every other time... and I don't have the time to stand there and get them recut but they cut my dogs tongue today. I was told she was licking while they were cutting her face and she her tongue got cut. What they left out is a piece is basically missing! It looks okay now, not infected and they said that if I take her to the vet that I can send them the bill but I will NEVER be taking my dogs back there again. read more

I took my rescue, Frankie, to Lisa based on other great reviews. Making the appointment was easy and I was able to get her in the next day. I informed her that Frankie is very difficult to groom, as she is extremely skittish and frightens easily. Lisa listened patiently and said it'll be fine. I had my doubts until I met the staff. Lisa is so gentle and patient...I was relieved to leave Frankie with her. Not only that...they use great, natural products like Plum Silky, which is what I use at home! I just moved to Houston from across the state and was in desperate need of a new groomer for my 3 year old Schnauzer. His last groomer set the bar extremely high as she made it a point to bond with each of her furry clients, so I was honestly prepared to be disappointed in any new groomer. My boyfriend dropped him off in the morning and was extremely impressed by how friendly and eager they were to meet my pooch. He was done right when they had projected he would finish- approximately 4 hours after drop off. Sonny looked (and very obviously felt) like a million bucks when I got there to pick him up. My boyfriend was right, all the employees were extremely kind and took a moment to talk to Sonny, and even offer him a treat before we left. My only (and I mean ONLY) complaint was that they left quite a bit of shampoo in his ears which really got to irritating him. In their defense, he can put up a heck of a wrestling match for such a small dog if you happen to be messing with him in a way he's not in the mood for (specifically ears and feet), so I don't doubt that he didn't make their job any easier. The only reason I docked them a star is because the shampoo in his ears was very obvious upon briefly looking at him, there's no way they didn't notice it. I would've appreciated them even bringing it to my attention if he had prevented them from cleaning it before I picked him up. On his next visit, I'll ask them to be more aware of getting shampoo in his ears in the first place to hopefully make it easier on everyone. Overall, I will definitely be using Lisa's again since I was so impressed with their patience and finished product. I definitely recommend giving Lisa a try. read more

I've always been able to get an appointment on my requested date because I give them advance notice. I chose "Grooming By Lisa" based on recommendations from clients at the veterinary clinic I work at. I email Lisa the vaccine records from the vet a few days prior to the appointment to make check-in easier and quicker. Fluff was somewhat skeptical when I dropped him off but when I picked him up, not only was he super handsome but he was so happy when they brought him out to me. Even on our second visit there they already remembered my shih-tzu and what kind of haircut we got. After going there for a while though, I noticed his eye areas weren't getting cleaned, and I don't know if they were expressing the dogs. After a lot of research on pet groomers in the area, I decided to make an appointment with Lisa of Grooming by Lisa. I am so happy I went with Lisa (and so is my pup!) because my lil guy looks great! Just picked up our two dogs from here. While it wasn't their first time, the groomer here has been great every time. We have a Maltese and a dog we adopted who gets long curly hair. The groomers have done a great job styling each of them and they have been able to meet our requests. Also the price is affordable compared to other places we have been. Yelp and the plethora of good reviews brought me here. I left a message after hours and was called promptly when they opened. Since it was New Year's Eve, I wasn't that hopeful to get my little Boo Boo in, but they said bring her straight away! They are literally 60 seconds from my front door. I was buzzed in and a very nice lady behind the desk checked us in. Two lazy big cats and a couple of Shih tsu babies were there with her. I chose this groomer based on the good reviews for handling that breed. Although the shop is small, the service is BIG. Lisa is a dear, and did a FANTASTIC job.
