    Dewclaws cut to the quick

I am extremely disappointed in my experience here. The woman that clipped my dogs nails did a terrible job and I would never consider going back. Not only did she cut them uneven and very short, she also clipped her dewclaws and made her bleed. She did not attempt to clean up the blood and I had to point it out not once but twice. My dog already has anxiety and when she continued to go forward with the trim, I said "that's good, we don't have to go any further", wishing to not cause my dog anymore pain or anxiety. She told me no that she was almost finished, and when I asked a second time to be done she finally listened. I would not recommend this place. I have included photos of my dogs nails so that you all could see the job that was not well done.

Please consider taking your dog somewhere else! We had a horrible experience this past weekend which resulted in over $200 in vet bills, 2 medications and an ointment that has to be applied to his eyes 3 times a day! Normally I wouldn't take this to social media. I wanted to have a conversation with the owner and ask a few questions but due to her response....here we are. We have been going to Doggie Styles for years and have never had an issue until this weekend. My dog was groomed by Carly, she always does a great job. When I went to pick him up, I noticed under his eyes was very watery but thought nothing of it. About 1-2 hours later his eyes were goopy, extremely red and he couldn't keep them open. I tired wiping them with a wet cloth but his condition wasn't changing. I called a few local vets and no one could see him for hours due to the amount of emergencies they had. I called Doggie Styles back and spoke to the owner Paula. She said to bring him back in and they could flush his eyes with saline. I called Crystal Lake animal hospital first to see if they would take him. I have never seen anything like this before and I don't want to mess with eyes. Again it was going to be hours. I told the nurse that the groomers offered to flush his eyes with saline. She said to go ahead and let them do it and if it doesn't clear up in a couple hours, I should call them back and they would see if they can get him in. I went into the groomers and Paula came out to the lobby to take a look and then went to take him back. I asked if I could go with. She kind of looked puzzled that I asked to go with him but was more than happy to allow me back there. She hooked him up on a table, both her and Carly looked at Jack and played it off like it wasn't that bad. Carly even said "oh that ones not that red" I said "not that red? He can't even keep them open." She walked away and Paula kept trying to tell me that it was normal for them to be that color, that it's the lid. She took the bottle of saline, literally made a fist, and grabbed him by the skin above his eye holding it up high to force his eye open so she could flush it. After she grabbed him like that, I immediately told her to stop and that I was taking him to the emergency vet and I didn't like the way she was grabbing him. She told me I was misunderstanding what she was saying. I told her she shouldn't be grabbing him like that, and I would be sending her my vet bills and I walked out. Paula called me as soon as I walked out, she told me that wherever I take him, to tell them that they used a tearless shampoo. I told her Carly told me she used an oatmeal shampoo for the first time on him. Paula said "no she didn't" after I told her that's what Carly told me she asked Carly who said "yes, I used oatmeal shampoo but the tearless on his face" I said ok and hung up. I took Jack home and put him in the shower with me, running the water in his face and eyes. A few hours later there was still no change. I called Pet Vet back again and they took us in at about 5:30pm. They did a dye test, flushed his eyes, put him on prescription eye drops and an anti-inflammatory medication. We had a follow up visit today with the doctor. They did another dye test and saw he had an ulcer on his eye from either a chemical in a shampoo or from him bumping his face into something. (Carly did tell me he was jumping around on the table because he didn't like the dryer). She said this is pretty common with grooming (that soap gets in their eyes). She said to contact the groomer and ask them if next time they could use an eye lubricant before they start grooming him to prevent any soap or chemical getting into his eyes. I originally posted in Huntley moms Facebook group in the morning when I couldn't get him in anywhere, asking if there was a vet or vet tech in the group that can tell me what to do for him. I received a private message from someone who had this same exact thing happen at Doggie Styles 3 weeks ago. I messaged Doggie Styles tonight because I wanted to talk to Paula within the next couple of days about what had happened that day and go over what the doctor had said. I totally understand that accidents happen but there was still a conversation to be had. Clearly an adult conversation was not going to happen.

    Bea and my little Viking!

If I could give Doggie Style 10 gold stars I would! The first time I met Julie was 4 years ago the day before I was embarking on a journey to Florida with my white schnoodle Henry. I suspected he had fleas and thought I could get a flea bath and a nice haircut so he'd be comfortable for our trip. Julie explained they don't do that anymore because it puts all the other dogs at risk. She recommended taking him to the vet and getting the chewable that works within 24 hours. My vet saw him the next morning and off we went. By 7:00 when we reached our overnight stay, I didn't see any live fleas. I gave him a bath with flea shampoo and he was perfect! After a 2 month stay we returned home. The first thing I did was call Julie. She remembered us and fit Henry right in. He looked awesome! We rescued a cute little American Eskimo mix that winter. Bea has a really full coat in the winter so sheds handfuls in the Spring. Julie had taken care of both of them. Sadly Henry passed in February but Bea continues to go once a month for her spa day. They clean teeth too! You might wonder why I mentioned the whole flea/Florida thing but it's nice to know she cares about all of her clients not the money. I'm an old lady and have had many dogs in the last 50 years. I owned a grooming shop in Chicago 75-80 so I'm particular. You can trust Doggie Style to do right by you and your pets!!

I've been taking my dog here for awhile but when I took her yesterday I was so disappointed and will not be taking her again. When I picked her up, it was obvious they rushed to get her in and out and didn't take the time to brush her out or trim her properly. When I took her home, I had to spend an hour or two brushing her to fully get out the dandruff and all the chunks of hair. She was also cut very choppy and spotty. I thought for $65 dollars that should be obviously that she shouldn't have dead hair all over and should have a good trim but I guess not.

My dogs ear directly after his grooming service.

I had one of the worst experiences at this grooming salon with leticia. The staff doesn't care if they hurt or cut your dog and will give them back to you injured, dirty, and bleeding. They sent my dog home bleeding and with residue in his ear. Not worth the price and not worth the hassle. They have terrible customer service and do not care about the animals or their customers.

My dog's ear a day AFTER the vet visit. I should've taken a pic of the ear before the vet so you could see the ear pus oozing out.

You get what you paid for. We took our miniature schnauzer to Doggie Styles for a grooming. She looked pretty good when we got her back. She was turned over to my wife, she was charged, and nothing was said. Two days later, our dog starts whimpering and shaking her head. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, but I started to get concerned. Finally, I decide to inspect her head and lo and behold, she's got pus draining from her ear. I took her to the vet the next day, and I was told that her ear fur had been plucked, and that's normal. However, I was told that the groomer did a terrible job with the ear plucking. They did not closely monitor the ears to ensure it wasn't causing irritation. Also, if the ear canals had already been irritated, the groomer should not have continued to pluck the fur and gone a different route. I was also told that it was the groomers responsibility to inform us to keep an eye on her ears to make sure no infections develop. The veterinarian used to be a professional groomer for a long time and told me that my dog's grooming was absolutely poor and they would never bash a business, but I should never, ever return. Among the many issues that were pointed out to me, my dog's "sanitary trim" was poorly done and had it been corrected by the vet. The poorly done trim would have also caused an infection. So I dodged a bullet on that one. I ended up paying $200 for the vet bill and when I called Doggie Styles about it, the lady I spoke to refused to take responsibility. She told me I should have known there was a possibility of an ear infection and the responsibility wasn't hers to tell me. So... I'm supposed to know what was done to my dog and keep an eye on what it was, even though I didn't know what was done? Isn't it up the groomer to tell me, "hey, monitor the ears for infection, or keep an eye on her privates to make sure there's no infection"? Apparently not. I asked for a refund at the very least, and she angrily offered to pay the vet bill. I was satisfied with that and hung up. She called me right back and said she changed her mind and would not take responsibility for what happened. That's fine, but I live in the dog friendly Talamore subdivision and already spoke to other dog owners who stated they will no longer go back. I spoke to two others who had the same exact problem with the ear infection AND spoke to a new family with three dogs, who asked for a recommendation on a groomer. I told them to absolutely stay away from Doggie Styles and showed them my dog's residual pus that was still in her ear. If you love your dog and don't want it to suffer from an ear infection or other problems, you need to stay away from this place.

The ladies at Shanti Canine Spa did a great job on him and the cost was extremely reasonable. I was truly shocked. It rained overnight and the boys got into mud, so when I asked if they had time to groom the foster pup, not at all expecting a yes, they were able to take him very last minute, too. He doesn't like his paws touched, but they took their time with him and did a fabulous job. I am so beyond happy with the service and friendliness of the staff!! I even got some help getting them into my car as they are a handful when walking together. If you have a pup to groom, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO SHANTI CANINE SPA!
