I have a 1947 Singer sewing machine. I was having a problem with the bobbin not working properly. I was told that it might take up to four weeks for it to be repaired as they were in a backlog situation. It turned out to only be two weeks for the repair to be made. The staff was very courteous and helpful. While he had the machine, they cleaned it up and made an additional repair to the electrical system. I am very pleased with their service. read more

Bought two quilting machines from here in the last two years. The only thing that bothers me is that we left them for servicing when we went on vacation to be picked up when we returned. My wife wanted to buy a thread cone holder and was going to purchase it when we took them in. The lady working there advised to "just get it when you come in to pick up your machines" which we did. You guessed it they had no more when we returned. Also, one of the machines started shocking my wife when she got them home and set up. Wrote to Gromes via email and they have yet to respond. It has been over a day now and I will not let my wife use it until we hear about what may be causing this. This, unfortunately, seems like it could be a longer wait than it should be to just get a response. read more

The team spent several minutes looking into parts and fixing it but couldn't find the part so recommended another ancillary part which was inexpensive and worked great. Great family owned business. They have a great customer service attitude. I purchased my first quality machine from them, had it for almost a year, took it back to take advantage of their trade in policy and traded it in for a step up. Have had that machine serviced there with excellent results. I have taken it in twice for a minor issue and has been fixed on the spot for no additional charge. Hate that they aren't carrying Janome machines anymore. About five years ago I took my Pfaff, which I had purchased from a friend, in for service. I had not sewn for over 40 years and I began to buy anything and everything from everywhere. I then purchased via eBay, an upgraded Pfaff embroidery machine, that I was sure I could handle. Much to my dismay, I purchased items that were not compatible and embarrassed and frustrated, I broke the embroidery unit and felt totally lost for how to use many items purchased for this new adventure. I returned to Grome's and began asking questions. When they understood my 'newbie' quilting/embroidery/sewing dilemma, I was welcomed and my return to the new/updated sewing program began. I asked to sit down and go over the top three machines and what they offered. Pros and cons were received, my husband and I left without committing. The same day we returned and purchased my Pfaff Creative Sensation Pro with training support, to learn how not to break this new prize. After much training, I continue to use Grome's for all my sewing needs. I have purchased a Janome S7, Juki serger, Tajima Sai multi-needle and Creative Icon Embroidery machine each with support and unbelievable customer service. I have my Vantage software and Artistic cutter. I have gone outside Grome's but always return for that feeling of total support that is not because of anything other than real concern for my happiness in the use of my Grome's purchases. Yes, I have bought a lot; but only because they gave all to me in support of this new adventure before I bought anything. Respect is earned not given and Grome's has earned that from me. I inherited a treadle machine from my Grandmother. Grome's people let me know her machine was built between 1850-1870. After I got over being stunned, they said I could bring it in for a thorough cleaning and oiling. When I went to pick it up, they said they were not surprised it was still in use, as many old machines are, but hers was in great shape. they even had shuttles and spool to fit it, as well as some needles. They made my day; having a family heirloom that was dated, cleaned (for next to nothing), adjusted and outfitted was priceless to me. read more

I have been patronizing Grome's since 1978 when I first moved to San Antonio and purchased my first Viking Sewing Machine and a cabinet from them. They were outstanding when Mr. Grome, the founder was there. Since then in recent years I have felt that the children/owners don't care about their customers any more. I purchased a Janome 1200D from them several years ago and when I was having some trouble with a particular stitch so I took it in and the owner did not know how it worked--told me to wait until the Janome district representative comes to San Antonio (when??--no idea). I recently took in 2 older, but fabulous machines for servicing--a New Home Memory Craft 7500 and a 234 New Home Serger that still work very well. They said it would be at least 4-6 weeks to get them back to me. I picked up New Home machine a week later unserviced because I needed it and was then told, "oh we would have gotten it done by the end of this week." I left the serger with its original foot control because I did not need it right away. I did get a call by the end of that week that it was ready, but asking if I had mistakenly dropped off the wrong foot control because the foot control that was with my serger was not the right one. I assured them that that was the original foot control that came with my machine in 1984 and I did not have any other foot controls that were sent with it. They lost my foot control and bought me a new one, but it is not the same as the one that they lost. It works and I am fine with it, but it is still poor customer service. When I picked up the machine, the clerk said, "well, one day someone that was given your foot control will call or bring it back in." Not very caring. I also asked about the price of a new CoverPro machine and they never got back to me with a price so I purchased it somewhere else that wanted my business after waiting 2 weeks. My advice is if you drop off anything with your machine, be sure to mark it and have it noted on your ticket stub so there is no question about it later. Also be aware that you will wait awhile for your machine to be serviced. Very disappointed. read more

So i was very interested this morning at the amazing things i saw created at Gromes on Daytime at 9. Cool custom costume creations,being that my teenaged son is a cosplay fan and Comic-Con fan as well i could use some pointers on costume design. I thought, this is the place to go. I watched the entire segment. I listened intently as they stated that they'd have classes for that very thing on September 4th from 6-9 i thought I'm there...then here it came. First caller to call in to Gromes and say they saw the segment on daytime at 9 would get a free three hr class. I called about ten times in a row lines busy...of course who wouldn't jump at that opportunity. ..no biggie. I didn't give up. Next try...it's ringing, ringing, ringing, they answer!!!!omg hello .....hello...silence on the other end. Clearly someone listening to me then, a moment later click,they hung up on me. Maybe it was just a technical error. I try again...it's ringing ringing...they answer again this time they pick up right away and hang up. I mean if the caller was already chosen that's ok but at least have the decency to answer the phone to the other callers trying to win. Really shitty. Won't be going in for lessons very disappointed by that kind of treatment over the phone.no courtesy.I'll take my business elsewhere. read more
