Any negative reviews from people who only leave negative reviews should be ignored. Look at how often someone does reviews before lending it any credibility. David Grodin and his team are the best. Hands down, I've never worked with or met anyone better. No matter where you are at in life, there is fit for you and your needs that cannot be better filled by any competitors in the area. Many financial advisors I have dealt with in the past are focused on getting me to buy more products and refer my friends and family to them for more business without taking any time to build trust and a relationship with me and my family. I found the planning class I attended to be informative and helpful. But I balked at paying $2000 up front for their services when I had no idea at all what they'd be suggesting I do with my money, apart from "it'll be in one big SEP IRA." In addition, I was given incorrect information related to Social Security that really gave me pause. I've since chosen to work with another agent who has done a lot of educating as we've discussed her investment suggestions. A much better process for me. My experience of this team was also negative. They suggested that I hand over to them my retirement money that is currently invested in a safe, low management fee government annuity plan (TSP). I felt nervous about that idea, and consulted with another financial adviser (a former mutual fund broker of mine, who on this occasion I paid for his consulting services, to make sure he would be objective). He said, "No way you should hand over those assets to a brokerage firm. TSP has virtually zero management fees and a good track record of returns." I asked, "Then why would those guys suggest that I hand over to them my TSP funds?" To which my trusted adviser responded, "Well, everyone has to make a living. This is how they make theirs." These guys also strongly suggested that I buy long-term health insurance, through them. But another, less biased adviser opined, "Given your age, a long-term care plan would be expensive. Better instead that you manage your assets with the thought in mind that you might eventually have to use some of them pay for health care." My wife and I are in our mid 40s and have been doing all the so-called right things financially -- monthly contributions to 529s and our taxable index fund account and maxing out our 401ks. So we were a bit skeptical attending a wealth mgmt class David and Bobby led. We were blown away. The class laid bare our financial naivete. Not only did they explain the concept of a volatility buffer, but they also reframed our thinking around insurance. We hired them to produce a financial plan which we have now followed. By doubling our deductibles, we now pay $750 less in annual premiums with MORE insurance coverage for home and auto PLUS an umbrella policy. Because they were adamant about refinancing ASAP when they heard we were at 4 1/8, we are now paying almost $800 less a month on our mortgage. They reallocated 1/2 of the funds we were already saving in the stock/bond markets into whole life and term policies that will provide the protection and volatility buffer we need. All this for 1/2 the price we paid an architect to design a half-bath addition. This was the best money we've spent as we've already seen a return on investment that will only grow over time. read more

I was looking for a financial planner, even willing to pay hourly, rather than on commission. They spent alot of time trying to convince me to buy an additional life insurance policy, at $1000 per month (which I did not have). When I asked how I'd pay for this, they ultimately explained that I should get a home equity line anyway and then use that to pay for the life insurance policy. Really, not kidding. I got discouraged by the whole process. read more
