Date: 4/4/2024 Time: 3:20 PM 53° Partly cloudy Two years ago, I was going through so much stress in preparing my tax returns for 2021 the old school way. (Filling out the tax forms by hand, making duplicate copies at Office Depot, then running to the post office to mail them). This year I decided to use Alameda Tax Services to prepare my tax returns for IRS and FTB. I called and asked if they do drop in appointments. Answer: yes. I told her filing the return was basic; no capital gains and losses to deal with. Shirley was excellent in preparing the tax returns. She was quick, efficient and patient. It took her less than 20 minutes to do those returns. We reviewed the returns to make sure everything was correct. Signatures are necessary to file the returns. Thus, I will be at the tax office with the signed documents. The cost to do both returns was $176 for filing jointly. read more

If you are like me and claim 0 on your W-4, pay interest on the mortgage as well as school loans, etc. Then Tax season is a blessing. Hopefully it means a little bit of spending money or savings for the bank account. While some do it online, I prefer to actually speak to a reliable tax consultant every year. So this year I set up an appointment for February 2nd with Bob at Alameda Tax Services to get my taxes done early. Bob was good, interesting conversation since he is a retired International Hotel Director. He also is very knowledgeable regarding finances and of course tax services. I was in and out in less than and hour. And I paid way less than going to H&R Block. Alameda Tax Services is now my annual place to have my taxes done. read more

It was my first time filing taxes and I'm the skeptical type so I kept my options open. I first went to H&R and they tried to charge me $200 for each year of taxes that I needed to file! Ridiculous! After a brief phone call with Bob, I came in for a consultation on the day of. And he was very patient and informative. He had a great sense of humor and explained anything that I didn't understand. I told him my situation and he was very sympathetic and gave me a student discount. You know when a company really cares about your well-being and when they really don't. Wow! So my particular tax situation was a bit crazy and unique this year. I had multiple 1099s, W-2s, super weird tax forms I've never heard of before, issues with insurance, multiple states were involved, etc, etc, etc. To say the least, it was a mess. I knew that I was going to need some extra help this tax season -- but I couldn't just hire some schlub from H & R Block or Liberty (no offense). I needed the MacGyver of tax pros. Someone with true grit. That person is Elaine. She answered all of my questions and concerns in great detail. It was nice to feel confident filing taxes for once. She solved every problem with care and ease and would always go the extra mile. I was actually surprised by how smooth and painless the whole process was. Dealing with the IRS can be a bit nerve-wracking but I knew I was in good hands with Elaine and the wonderful staff at ATS on my side. Shirley helped out towards the end. She was as equally personable and professional as Elaine. I would definitely recommend her too. Judging from the other reviews it sounds like she's already a pretty well-established and revered tax pro. Alameda Tax Services is a breath of fresh air. We live in a world where local businesses are dying, especially in the Bay Area. These people are great at what they do and they don't charge an arm and leg for their expert services. This was the first time my husband and I went to this place to file our taxes and it will be our last. We gave the accountant all our supporting documents to file our 2016 tax returns. I remember going through each items with the accountant. Somehow she managed to missed my 1099 Form. We trusted that they are thorough with their work. When we received one of our refunds, we noticed that the amount was incorrect and the reason listed on the letter was that we did not file my Family Leave Compensation (1099 form). I called the accountant and asked if she included the 1099 on our tax returns and she admitted that she did not. She did not apology for HER mistake. When I received the amended tax return, the reason the accountant indicated seem to point that we did not include the 1099 but she should of indicated that the accountant made that mistake and not the customer/tax payer. This mistake cost us money and time. We paid for a service that was unsatisfactory. I should of known when I picked up our tax returns and she was unable to locate it and seem very unorganized should be send me a huge signal but she was referred by a family member. We will not be a returning costumer ever again. Obvious, the owner replied stating that we forgot to include the documents. It was with all our taxes. Don't blame the customer just admit that you and your business is a mess and very unorganized. As I said it did cost us money and time! So your service sucked and will not recommend this place at all! read more

Did a quick and accurate Job with my taxes, though it was a relatively simple preparation. I give them 3 stars because I called and told them exactly how many forms I had and was quoted $60-70. Once my return was prepared I was told the total was $166 but then told he would settle for $100. I reminded him of the quote to no avail. It's kinda insane that the estimate was less than the simple 1040 return on the invoice ($96) not to mention the other pieces added (which again he knew about when quoting me). At that point it was done and ready to file and I paid rather than argue, but I certainly don't appreciate this dishonest business practice and will not be using this service in the future. read more

I really don't know how to say about this tax place. People are friendly nice. However, the staffs have no knowledge about the corporation tax. I was patient and went there many times to get my tax done. But the tax person even filed my original without my permission. I was very upset, had to hire another person to fix it. Alameda Tax Service just did a fantastic job on my taxes!! I am getting a much better refund than I expected - and the best part is that ATS charged much less than other tax services I have used in the past. My taxes are rather complicated (I own rental units and have a small business) and they seemed very experienced at doing these types of returns. I also understand they worked at H&R Block for years.
