I was in the market for an accountant this year, since I recently got married. My husband and I thought it would be prudent to find someone who we could depend on in the long term to help us navigate our projected increasingly complicated portfolios, so we decided to use our current tax year to test the waters (02 x income + portfolio). After using Yelp to check out our options, we decided to bite the bullet and check this out. And bite the bullet we did. We spent $400 (50% down payment) for Kieu to look through our taxes, and when she quoted a 40% INCREASE over TurboTax's estimate, we requested to learn more. After all, either: 1. Her services were invaluable, as it was helping us avoid tax fraud, or 2. They made a mistake with their calculations We can understand if it was the latter. After all, to err is human. However, not only was she extremely confident in her work, but she was also extremely tight lipped about how she derived those numbers. After triple checking our numbers (and consulting with another professional), we concluded that it was the latter case. Sally & Kim may be able to help you file taxes if you're too busy to DIY, but if you're looking for accurate taxes or a financial advisor, take your business somewhere else. Sally & Kim Income Tax saved me so much money! I had attempted to do my taxes via turbo tax but it was so complicated with two state filings and a few other funky items. I found Sally & Kim and they were able to make me an appt to come in within days. They took all my paperwork and not two weeks later, my taxes were done and I got a refund instead of owing! They were able to answer all my questions, insured I got everything filed right and were quick and efficient. I felt the price was a little high, but I'm also not used to paying to have my taxes done, so didn't know exactly what to expect. I usually don't post on you but I must post this excellent service I received at Sally and Kim accounting services. I met with Sally about my 2019 taxes. I had not done them professionally in the past but was audited and paid a huge fee in 2017. Sally did my income tax and probably 1/4 of the time that I usually do it and was able to tell me exactly what my refund was in less than a half an hour. Their fees were excellent they came in much lower than anybody else when I put out for a quote, but they did not sacrifice the quality the friendliness and the service. If you need to have any type of tax or accounting or insurance done please give them a shot. read more

I had some tax issues to resolve and made an appointment to go over them. I also had some questions about covid stimulus. I emailed her some of my documentation before hand and I was surprised that 10 minutes before my meeting she called me to tell me that I should see another tax professional. She got confused with one of my files and thought I owed the government money which I dont. I clarified. Still she insisted I call someone else. I wouldnt have been upset if she had just allowed me to come to the scheduled appointment so we could discuss and at least that way I could get some useful information and explain the situation. We never even got to discuss the covid stuff. I view that as unprofessional. read more

Been here two years in a row and each time Kim was patient, knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. She was honest and up front with the cost after I gave her a summary of the documents I had. I was able to drop off my paperwork and come back a few hours later to sign. She made is very easy for me, especially when I brought my kid along with me. A good friend of mine recommended me to Kim. I've been coming here for 3 years now for my taxes. Kim is fast and efficient. When all is done all paperwork and clear instructions are enclosed in a green folder. In the past I've done turbo tax but I always get a better result when Kim does them for me. They are all by friends and family. Take the advice from me and the other real patrons and stay away! _______________ This was our experience if you want to know the detail: I usually file taxes using Turbotax, but this year my wife wanted to use a tax accountant for a change. It's April 14th, the last weekend before tax day, and I needed to find someone to provide this service. I called many places and they were all fully booked or very limited availability, but Sally and Kim told me they can take me as a walk-in. I should have taken this as a warning sign and just went somewhere else. If there is a row of restaurants full of people, but only one restaurant with no one eating inside, DON'T GO IN! When I arrived, Sally was available to help me right away. I'm a friendly guy and took a couple stabs at making conversation before we got started, but she wasn't much for small talk. I don''t mind just focusing on business if that is more your style. She handed over a one-page sheet with an estimate for her work. $200 to file seems fair, so we sign it. She took 5 minutes to look over my W2s and 1099s, and started entering my data. In doing so she asked me exactly one question: "Do you travel a lot for your job?". I answered No. About 10 minutes of data entry and she tells me how much we owe. We are a bit surprised and I said to her "You don't have any questions about any possible deductions? I made donations during the year". Sally responds, "You didn't tell me that." Of course this is not what we expect to hear. As if it's our fault for not asking the right questions. I then asked her where we fell on the income bracket and if there's some way to drop into a lower tax bracket. She said, "Oh let me check". At this point, I felt like I was doing more work than she was, and I'm paying her. My wife and I decide to leave. Her partner then drops into the conversation and says we owe half of what we were quoted because of the contract we signed. That was the "got ya" moment. I was livid at this point. I told her why I was unhappy with the level of service we had been provided, and explained to her exactly what I was going to do if we are expected to pay $100 just to walk out of there. There was no way I wouldn't share my experience on a public forum if that was the case. She demands payment. And here we are. I believe Yelp is a great place for patrons to share information and bring business to those deserving, and bring to light any vendors with potential issues. For you own sake, stay away. read more

Although the workers here are nice but they are not helpful at all. It was my mom first time filing tax here as she was refer by a family friend. We are really disappointed with their service. My mom does not speak good English so when she got a mail from Sally & Kim, they stated that someone has already claimed my brother. Instead of helping us through the process they had my mom do everything herself. My mom was frustrated because previous place that she had filed at, they helped her throughout the process even with complications. I was the one who helped my mom. I didn't even mention the fact that when my mom first went there to file, they never sent it through til the last minute because they were waiting for my mom to pay them which my mom didn't know until she went back to the office to follow up. So since she paid them shouldn' Kim be the one helping my mom? So I called again letting Kim know that my mom sent the paperwork back to IRS of proof of identity. It's been 3 weeks and I ask if they can help follow up. Instead of finding ways to help all she said was "there nothing else she can do but for to just wait" and I asked can she help call or track it and she told me to do it ourself as she's not able to track it since is not efile. But Kim can atleast call for my mom and help since that's what she's there for. I explain to her nicely on the phone how "this is not right how my mom paid for your service but your not helping." And everytime I ask her something she keeps repeating herself like she doesn't know what she's doing... sooo frustrating. Never coming back or referring anyone... Replying to your comment below: My mom said that she wasn't informed nor she said was going to come back in two weeks. In that's case, if you were able to send a letter that brother was claimed by someone else then how come you couldn't send her a letter after 2 months of waiting for her signature? Yes you help prepare the paperwork for us to pick up and mail it and thank you for that, but I did NOT "DEMAND" as you mention in the below comment. I asked nicely if there's any way you can track it and you have informed me that you can't because is e-file. Then I ask can you CALL and follow up, that's when you said NO and it had me frustrated. It's been 3 weeks and I understand that it takes month but I just wanted to know if they received our paperwork but not for my mom to rush the process so please don't just assume when all my mom wanted to know was where are we at with the process and if the paperwork was received correctly. And yes, I've looked at your other reviews and although there were some good ones but NOT ALL. I seen a couple that had a similar situation with you. So please don't tell to read over your "good" reviews as some are not all good and we all have different experiences. A person can't just go off someone else experience until they experience it themselves and I'm glad I can share my moms and mines so others aren't BLIND by your good reviews. Sally & Kim are incompetent and cannot handle anything beyond a basic W-2 filing. I sold my house and knew I would have a large tax bill and wanted to get professional help. They did not understand how to determine the correct cost basis of the home. Because of them, I paid $50,000 MORE in taxes than I should have. After the fact, my attorney was looking at my return and said I should not have owed that much in taxes. I went back to Sally & Kim to get my fee from them. Kim said she would not return the fee but would file an amended return. Having lost faith in their abilities I went to an enrolled agent and filed an amended return to get the excess taxes back from the IRS and State. I paid twice to file these taxes, Sally & Kim should have at least refunded their fee for this incompetent work. They rightfully owe me interest on the lost use of the $50,000 over-paid taxes. I used Yelp to find them so it is fitting that I report on Yelp my experience with them. They should be ashamed. read more

I very rarely write reviews unless I feel that a business has provided exceptional service & has gone above & beyond, thus my original review of Sally & Kim tax svcs after my first filing in 2017. Based on their professionalism, attentiveness & efficiency, I continue to have our taxes processed by their office, specifically Kieu. To restate from my original post, we had previous year filings processed by someone who worked on their own, was inexpensive but were no longer available in 2017. Therefore we looked online & came across Sally & Kim. Kieu was a lifesaver, corrected several past filings resulting in bigger refunds & advised me on prepping for next year. I had not planned on providing an update as they continue to provide excellent svc not only during tax season but throughout the year as I frequently call with tax questions. Unfortunately however, due to a few negative reviews I felt the need to clarify a few things... 1) I had mentioned previously that Sally & Kim WERE NOT the cheapest quote for tax svcs, HOWEVER, their knowledge & experience are worth the cost. Which are stated UPFRONT & prior to inputting client data. 2) I have NO AFFILIATION/RELATION to any employee of this business & have NO OBLIGATION to provide a false review. I simply found it frustrating & difficult to find a reliable tax specialist & was hoping to help out others with my feedback. Honestly, I do not have a problem with someone providing a truthful account of their experience. However I do not agree with reviews that intend to negatively impact a business by making FALSE claims intended to discredit other reviewers. $160 quoted by email, compared to $450 in person. That is criminal. I gave you all of my information by email. I downloaded turbo tax for $49 and did them myself. Don't treat customers this way, its not a good way to do business. If you are going to charge $450, tell the customers that in the email, instead of making them drive all the way to your office for nothing. read more

I decided to hire a professional to help me on the personal as well as my business taxes. I usually use H&R and decided to use someone local instead due to the long waits and random people they hire to do your taxes at H&R.... but this place i found on my way to alameda beach to go fishing.....so i decided to check them out.. they took care of my taxes fast and at a reasonable price.. they tell you everything up front and they even helped me update my medical for free! I m updating this business to 5 stars because now they offer Allstate Insurance. My brother just recently bought a car, Kieu helped him with the insurance and we got a very good package. Kieu is so sweet and patient. She explained everything in details even after I ask her the same questions again and again. They recently moved into a bigger office which is much better because now there are more privacy when you do your taxes or buying insurances. Via yelp correspondence, they were very prompt and seemed helpful. After explaining how we were filing as domestic partners, they sounded confident in knowing the process so we got a quote and made an appointment. When we got there, Kim was the one that helped us. Don't get me wrong, she is very nice, but she had no idea what we were talking about when it came down to actually filing. She never heard of a mock federal return, which is necessary for domestic partners. On top of that, she told us we couldn't use our $20k ivf expenses as medical deductions because we weren't property owners, which is not true and irrelevant. Then the cost she gave us was twice as expensive as what I was quoted for online. We left and ended up getting TurboTax and filing ourselves because the only reason we came here to is maximize our returns, and they were about to make us lose out on thousands of dollars! I definitely would not recommend their services because they do not seem to know what deductions are workable and don't seem confident in their work. read more

I was so happy with the excellent tax service they provided. I had gotten into what I thought was going to be a complicated tax problem, and Sally & Kim took care of it in such a professional and courteous manner, I felt tremendous amount of relief, (AND GOT A REFUND, AS WELL!!) Appointments were kept to the minute, and I never had to wait to be seen. Not only that, but I made a mistake on one of my appointments, wound up getting there a day early and was still seen, with not a hint of inconvenience on their part. The tax work was done very quickly despite the confusion of my being a self-employed musician with piles of receipts and the price was outstanding. I can't recommend this company enough!
