11/20/15: I called Cost U Less Insurance at approximately 6:45pm, spoke to Luis Rodriquez, received an auto insurance quote of $135 per month. Luis stated that the office would be closing at 7:00 pm, asked if I wanted to come in tonight and, if so, he would wait for me to get to the office. Considering I live approx 10 minutes away from the office and I was in desperate need of a new insurance carrier, I decided to go into the office. I informed Luis that before I make the trip to the office I needed to know how much the start up fee would be; I expressed I didn't have money for a hefty fee. He assured the start up fee would not be an issue, he stated I will handle that, I am here to help you. I arrived at the office alone and he was the only employee there. He provided a quote of $137.58 (different than what he stated via the phone) and asked for a start up fee of $359. I asked why the fee was so expensive, given I explained I could not afford much, he replied the computer calculates the figures. I asked for a break down of the fees, he became visibly nervous, defensive, his face turned bright red and he said the computer calculates everything. I asked for a copy of the quote, he stated I could not have one because it was against company policy. I asked if I could see the computer screen he showed it to me however, he began to go back and fourth rather fast in between screens. After asking many times for a breakdown of the start up fee without an answer, I asked him to let me read the screen that contained the figures. I focused in and seen that he was charging me $160 broker fee. I asked why the fee was so expensive, he stated I can charge anywhere from $160 - $300 for broker fees. I asked how the broker fee was determined, he refused to answer the question. I became uncomfortable, gathered my belongings, asked for his supervisor number which he refused to provide. I informed him I was going to file a complaint against him with his supervisor and corporate office. This was an unfortunate situation caused by a manipulative, conniving, diceitful, dishonest employee. Such a terrible reflection on the company! read more
