Based on the solid five star reviews, I called Kaufmann Advisors. The receptionist answered, and…read moreshe advised me that Simon Kaufmann is very busy, and that the first step would be to set up a phone call for an initial consultation. The receptionist was very nice and helpful. She said that since he is very busy, that the first available time for a 20 minute consultation would be on Monday, May 27, 2019. I mentioned that this was Memorial Day, a national holiday. She said he also had availability on May 28. I asked her how long things would take to get started after the call -- that is a lot of uncertainty for me. She said that it varies, that he has to determine if he has the time available to take on a new client. So would have to wait two weeks to find out. After I posted my review, the owner, Scott personally communicated with me and I decided to raise my review to five stars. He recommended that Yelpers use Yelp's "get a quote" feature, or communicate through the company's website to arrange an initial consultation. I'm giving him five stars for friendliness and constructive comments.

Not only did Simon not show up to the Zoom meeting he setup but he also decided to never respond to my email or phone calls asking if we could reschedule. Comcast even has better customer support, why would I want someone like this looking at my finances?

She made sure that I received the two-car policy discount. Not only that, Yolanda called the State Farm office (in another state where I own a house) and spoke with the agent about setting up a retroactive discount for my home owners policy--because I've been with State Farm for my cars (and my house in the other state) but I did not realize I qualified for a multi-policy discount on my house! Well done! I always feel I've been given the best service in Steve Bauer's office and I always know Yolanda is on the ball! Thank you!

Two words: run away!…read more Summary of my experience: I was with this agency for about three years and had nothing but negative experiences, including: - home and auto insurance rates were ~1.5-2x more expensive compared to other major insurance companies such as State Farm AND provides significantly less coverage (I left McDermottCosta and saved almost 50% annually while getting better coverage) - staff were rude, unhelpful, unresponsive, unknowledgeable, and inaccurate - doesn't watch out for the customer's best interest (e.g., seem to sell you on a particular insurance company and refurses or responds very slowly when you ask for other options, which I'm assuming because McDermottCosta gets a higher profit margin?) - application renewals were filled with mistakes (e.g., home purchase year off by 5 years, birthday was completely wrong and off by about 15 years) I'm all for supporting local businesses, but it also has to be earned. McDermottCosta never earned my business despite actually having it for a few years (I blame myself for not leaving more quickly).

I didn't hear back from him until my policy had expired, leaving my without a home insurance policy. He told me that my only option was to sign up with the California Fair Plan at triple the cost. It took me less than three hours to find another policy. He challenged me saying that there was not a possibility that I found another company that would issue a policy. I plan to move three home, three auto and a umbrella policy to the same provider. There may be agents at this agency that provide better service but I would stay away
