My premium increased by about 60%, despite the fact that I had a clean driving record with no accidents, tickets, or points on my license. The increase seemed excessive, and the only alternatives offered were to significantly reduce my coverage to lower the premium. For me, that wasn't a practical solution. If I'm paying for insurance, I want coverage that will actually protect me when I need it. I understand that this was something that occurred with State Farm across the board. However, I still believe the local office bears some responsibility for how it was handled. I received an email notifying me that my premium would increase substantially and was told to call or email if I wanted to make adjustments to my policy. The new premium would have been about one and a half times my monthly car payment. I had been with State Farm for several years in the past and had been back with them for another year or two, so this was especially disappointing given that I had no at-fault accidents, tickets, points, or any other issues on my driving record. The explanation I was given was that the increase was due, in part, to false claims being filed by other people. In my opinion, if State Farm fails to accurately anticipate the cost of doing business or fails to adequately investigate the validity of claims before paying them, those are business failures--not consumer failures. I don't believe customers with clean driving records should be expected to absorb the cost of those shortcomings through dramatic premium increases. Because of the substantial rate increase and the lack of reasonable options to maintain adequate coverage, I ultimately decided to switch to another insurer.

Instead, with each error, her answer is "I never received that message." Mistakes: 1. Failing to cancel a policy (despite responding she had done so) - zero acknowledgement of error, no "I'm sorry." Then wanted us to do the legwork to fix it! 2. Failing to update address on a policy per request 3. Then updating the address, but only on ONE policy, not all of them. 4. Failing to update a policy to self pay per request 5. Then updating it, but only on one out of two policies. Items 2 through 5 meant no bills. No bills can mean a missed payment. And in CA, Allstate is no longer writing new policies. You miss a payment and you might not HAVE a policy anymore. In every single failure, it was either a lack of common sense, or "I never received that message." We received that response four times. FOUR. And sometimes it was after hitting reply-all to an existing email thread. The problem is we know how email works. Nothing bounced - it's just unacknowledged. It's ludicrous to say that over the last three years, that every single time an error was made that it was due to a lack of receiving email. It's possible that Ms. Darby is not technologically literate. It's more likely that she is just not on top of things. If she isn't technologically literate, after this many "missing messages," why has she not engaged a technically savvy person for help? It's quite possible she's truly unaware that this is the root of her poor reviews, which is quite sad.
