Super friendly service, a cool laid-back, almost divey vibe, Elvis pictures on the walls, and quite possibly the best freaking burger I've ever had. When we walked in, my kid looked around and told me there was absolutely no chance she would have ever picked a place like this on her own, but that it was clearly perfect for me. Fair. We stopped in tonight for dinner after dropping a kid off at Ole Miss. this building is from the 1800's, which is pretty cool in and of itself. When you roll up to Taylor Grocery, it literally is like taking a step back in time. This is about as old school as you'll find. We entered and left our name and then were told to wait outside until our name was called. The wait was only maybe 10 minutes. We were seated and given menus and began our perusing. We settled on a sample app, a bowl of gumbo, a small fried catfish dinner and a country fried pork meal. The sample was quick to arrive, hush puppies, boneless chicken wings, catfish nuggets and fried shrimp. Everything was hot and delicious. The entrees arrived shortly after. The catfish dinner was hot and delicious, the fries with rotella were also hot and delicious and the baked beans were also good. The country fried pork was cooked well and also hot and delicious and crunchy. The gravy was flavorful and the side of okra and fries were also tasty. We finished the meal with a slice of pecan pie with ice cream. The ice cream is absolutely delicious and the pie was great too. I will note, this is the south, salt is used liberally on everything down here and Taylor Grocery is no exception. So be warned, it will have a bold salty flavor if you're eating fried foods here. I had read other negative reviews and heard similar comments from locals since she took over, but it's disappointing to experience it firsthand. Taylor Grocery has a long history and a loyal following, but when customers aren't treated with respect, they'll go elsewhere...try Lusco's if you are in Taylor - you'll have a much better experience and better food. It's a shame to see a place that meant so much to me and my family over the years change this way. We will never go back.
