    Blackberry tart

So very lovely! Excellent food and amazing service. I love to try new places when I'm traveling, and this was worth the trip. There are daily specials which I'm sure are with a trip back for me. I don't even like squash but it came with the steak tips and I ate it all. I had the blackberry tart and it was perfect with one of the best crusts I've had in a dessert.

Everything was delicious! We started with the bread basket (very generous portions and variety for the menu price), then had the African spiced chicken, and the shrimp and peas for entrees. Both were really tasty and interesting dishes with somewhat unexpected combos. We split the crispy rice fritters for dessert, with the bay leaf ice cream providing a nice counterpoint. Drinks were also fun: I had "The Breeze at Dawn," and then had another because it was a refreshing and well balanced cocktail for this gin fan. We appreciated being able to sit outside, and also that the staff checked in on us to make sure we were doing alright with the lively large party next to us on the patio. We thought we might've been lost in the shuffle when it took 15 minutes to get our drinks after ordering the first round, but after that minor hiccup service was top-notch. Would absolutely recommend Grit to others!

I loved this place and I cannot wait to go back the next time I am in town! We went on Sunday after church for Sunday brunch. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and holy cow! That thing was loaded! There was so much ham I almost couldn't fit it in my mouth! My dad ordered the bananas foster French toast and he ate all of it!

Great atmosphere! Indoor and outdoor covered seating . We are outside and had a wonderful brunch. Employee were cheerful and attentive. Food was fantastic. I had the Bananas Foster French Toast and loved it. My wife had the burger without a bun. She said it tasted great. My daughter had the breakfast sandwich and loved it. Large sandwich so she only ate half. Would be great to share with someone if your not a big eater or on a budget.

My mom and I were lucky enough to get in for brunch and it was delicious... quality food, amazing taste and fabulous service. I highly recommend giving it a try!

This place is defiantly a gem! Located in a small beautiful area in taylor,ms..Service was fantastic, everyone smiles and greets you with enthusiasm. The restaurant has a farmhouse feel to it, the floors look original. The food was really good, I had the roast beef special po boy and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich with a fried egg on top. A small mistake was made on my wife's meal, and with out hesitation they immediately comped us for there incredible banana bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream on top. Again, kudos to the service, management, and chef. Definitely will go back! Can't wait to try the brunch.

I was lucky enough to have brunch at Grit this weekend, as I was in town for a friend's wedding. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, from the facade and the art all the way down to the plates and mugs. The food rivals the best I've had in San Francisco, and the service was friendly and attentive. I am posting a bunch of photos because the spot is very new and people should know about it!

I've never had a bite of food at Grit that wasn't delicious. The menu is seasonal and every season is terrific. Worth the drive from Oxford!

The table had ordered a fried pickles but it was a bit too salty for me. The catfish was great, seemed pretty fresh and it didn't have any metallic taste. The sweet potato casserole was just the right amount of sweet and savory. I was going between the catfish and sweet potato to balance out the flavors. The fried okra was a bit bland and definitely needed the sauce. The service was great - attentive and gave great advice on food options. The interior fits the diner appearance and everything looked pretty clean and tidy. Other people in the party enjoyed their poboys and hash brown casseroles.

Heard we had to try Ajax, the diner, not the soap. We stopped in for lunch before heading to Nashville airport to come home. The diner is about what you'd expect inside. Old, kitschy and full of decor. We sat in a booth an were greeted by a waitress promptly for drink orders. Cokes and waters. They deliver the coke in a neat Ajax cup. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Wife ordered the chicken and dumplings and step son ordered catfish. Everything arrived very quickly and everything was hot and southern deliciousness, except the corn bread. The corn bread was dry and not very good at all. Pretty sure it was yesterday's leftover bread or someone needs to pull it 5 minutes sooner from the oven. Unanimous at the table, Everton e had garb corn bread. No big deal. The chicken fried steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Gravy was great and the red beans and rice side was awesome. All great flavors. Wife loved the chicken and dumplings, good flavor and tender chicken. She got a side of sweet potato casserole and loved it. I had a bite and it was delicious for certain. Step son had the fried catfish, he is not a big seafood eater but he absolutely loves the catfish. I had a big piece and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. The staff was outstanding, the service was great and the food was excellent sans the cornbread. Ajax is a neat little diner in the heart of Oxford. It's a little pricey as is everything in this college town, but it was worth the visit.

My manicotti was so bland it could've been served at a tax seminar. For prices that suggest a culinary revelation, we got dishes that wouldn't impress a truck stop diner. The service matched the food's enthusiasm--our server was polite but they weren't giving the Olive Garden a run for their money, let's be real.. The bill hit like a personal insult, far too steep for such a lackluster show. Word is the ramen might be better, but after this, I'm not betting on it. Oxford's food scene isn't barren, far from it. The town boasts gems that deliver honest, delicious fare without the ego. But spots like SoLa, with their trendy pomp and inflated tabs, are a bitter letdown for anyone who's ventured beyond state lines and tasted what distant lands can offer. The Moms and I left wishing we'd picked a place that respects both palate and purse.

Some places tend to get lazy when serving bar food, but that is not the case for The Growler. There is so much seating available if you are planning to hang out with friends, and they have a few tvs and games available for use. It is somehow also a great spot for working - I have typed many, many papers here and have somehow never been too distracted despite this place often being filled with groups of people.
