Now my review might sound a bit biased, since I come from a predominantly Mexican city, but let me tell you... do not come here! Worst tacos I've ever had. The tacos were extremely oily and didn't taste anything like an actual taco. I feel that the only redeeming quality was the vaporwave music and decor. But nonetheless these are not tacos. You can't through on some overly paprika'd meat and say this is a taco. It makes me sad to see that this is what Vancouver has to offer. Gringo is a lovely and fun spot. The tacos were delicious, we had 6 tacos for $15. The tacos are fairly small but all flavourful. Our favourite is the brisket taco. The beer on tap was just under $4 and pretty good. The staff were welcoming and friendly with a laid back personality. The music was spot on for a Friday night. It's a fairly small spot though and the max capacity is 28 people but would definitely recommend! read more

We reviewed the nachos here at Gringo...they were alright. We gave them an overall 2.6/5. Aside from these nachos though, the restaurant is actually pretty cool. So I rolled into Vancouver late in the evening given a flight delay and was starving looking for a good, relatively inexpensive place to eat. Checked Yelp and found Gringos. Hiked out of the hotel in search of this gem. First off, it is a bit off the beaten path. You can either brace the alley or go around to get to it. It is a small place too. Very small, and quite noisy, but that does not detract from either its charm or its food. I walked in, paused to look and was immeidately greated by the manager who in his casual hanging out talking to customers pose I mistook for a patron. I grabbed seat at the counter right opposite the cook (wish I could remember everyones names). The manager came over, gave me the menu and explained it. I got 6 tacos - 2 encino, 2 wilbur and 2 austin. All were fantastic. The meat was tender and not overdone, the portions were perfect and the added condiments complimented each other and the meat perfectly. Add to that an ice cold ale and I was very happy. And to make it nicer, the staff there is really nice and friendly. The cook was chatting with me about a whole slew of things, the manager came over to chat and just everyone was friendly. Mind you, I am probably about 20 years older then the staff and rest of the patrons there (only person with gray hair in the joint), so to be made to feel so welcome in such a young environment was awesome. This place was oddly awesome. It is small, funkily decorated, and vibrant. It was one of those places where the name actually fits the restaurant, because it is exactly what you expect Gringos to cook. The tacos aren't authentic, but they are delicious. It is really amazing what these guys put out without having a full kitchen and I almost ordered seconds. The drinks are cheap and good, but watch out for the headache that follows if you overdue it(I guess that is true for all drinks, but especially ones with bottom shelf booze mixed with fruit juice.) One of the best taco places in Vancouver, on par with tacoholic in Langley. Service is fast and food is amazing. Fantastic customer service as well. Can't believe the staff is middle aged white guys but they can make tacos that taste like it's from a Hispanic mom. Overall, 5/5 would come again. read more

If it's busy, you may have to wait a while for your food. It's worth it though. I had the best quesadilla EVER!!! Shredded chicken in juicy marinade with melted cheese inside in a pan fried tortilla. Chips and guac are yummy too. What is the worst I can say about this place?! When they run out of mango hot sauce . The people are impecable, the food is always BOMB, and the bourborita is alwayyyyys flowing. They will remember you name so be polite and remember theirs. Its a quaint little 90s place who serves tacos. I always always get 6 tacos. Usually mix it up with the flavs and always with avo cream. While watching 90s poweragers and conversing with my friends you can see the line outside as they eyeball us to hurry the eff up so they can eat. I'm so, so happy I found this place. It's like a Mexican cantina...in Thailand...in 1994...owned by your friends. In the best way. The Austin taco is my favourite and the service is the best I've received in Vancouver. They manage to make you feel welcome and it doesn't come off phony. Great music every time and whatever's on the TV will make for great conversation. You can have tacos and a beer for about $10 if you'd like - or get carried away with $16 buckets of delicious mixed drinks. Love that. I suggest this place whenever possible and would highly recommend it if you like tacos, laughing, the 90s, and neon. read more

Food was pretty darn good here. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for some tacos or mexican food! The beef brisket was the best and the chicken was very delicious as well. Great value for money, polite staff and good food. I've only gotten a burrito to go but it had great flavours and the ingredients were good. I think the experience would be better sitting in as it was difficult to add the salsa and sour cream when eating in a to go box. read more

Came here late one night for food and drinks, they served us even though they were closing. The prices were reasonable, beer was great and food was on par with a good food truck, sorry it was a small space. I'd say give it a try, we loved the quesadilla and tacos, plus the friendly faces and warm atmosphere were very welcoming for travelers. Great ambiance, place only fits 14 people, guy serving you makes an effort to know your name and remembers it when he hands off the check. Got margaritas which were served in trendy little mason jars, and the tacos were cute if not out-of-this-world tasty, coming it at maybe 2-3 inches across. $8 for 3 tacos and $3.50 for a beer but beware if you ask for tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole the guacamole is $7!!! Thats right, $7 for a small side of guacamole....the manager told me it was the cashier's "call". Pretty expensive for a small taco place in an alley. In the very least they should tell you it costs $7 when you order...also, $14 for a margarita....stick to the tacos and beer if you want to keep it under $50 for your meal. read more

Great service, the server came by, shook our hands, asked for our names and greeted us individually. The bar felt like you were just hanging out with some friends. If I haven't been out with locals I wouldn't have found this pkace. It's located in a back street in Gastown which looks a bit sketchy at nights. But it's definitely worth a visit. Grwat honest food and Chepstow drinks is a good combination in my opinion :-) The tacos are delicious and came fresh and fast to us. The food at Gringos is simple, made fresh and has a small price tag. $3.50 beers - YA!! $2.75 tacos - can't complain... you have the option of paying 0.75 extra for cheese and sour cream on your tacos - but you don't need it. The guacamole, was fresh but needed some zip. The team working was genuinely nice. The venue is small, seats maybe 30 people. It's located in Gastowns Blood Alley - yes, you have to venture down an alley to find it, look for the pink flamingo lights. I'd recommend Gringos for late night eats and drinks with friends. They're open for lunch so you could hit it for a quicky nooner. Me and my date combined paid $38 for dinner and 5 beers. read more
