a plate of food with onion rings

Visited the downtown location of Grillado's peri peri and tried their 1/4 grilled chicken leg combo with a side of onion rings, the fiesta plate and a side of grilled vegetables. The 1/4 chicken leg had a nice flavour from the grill, and the peri peri sauce packed abit of heat and paired nicely. The onion rings were crisp and the grilled veggies were a nice side (although there was a lot of green peppers). The fiesta plate unfortunately missed the mark for me, the chicken was dry and the salad was uninventive. The rice from the fiesta platter was also slightly on the mushier side. Overall an ok place for a quick lunch if you like peri peri grilled chicken. There is comfortable seating but the overall decor of the place could use a bit of a renovation (including the bathroom).

As Montreal is still missing a Nandos, I am always on the lookout for good peri-peri chicken that can satisfy my craving for the infamous Portuguese chicken. Grillado's is a decent family restaurant with enough seating and a bright and colourful interior. The concept is easy to understand - select your choice of chicken and flavour along with sides. We ordered a few large family combo platters to take out which consisted of a whole chicken, large rice, large fries, garlic bread and dips/sauces. The girl serving was a little rude as she mentioned that they didn't have sauces when they had many lined up on the serving table. After pointing that out to her, she finally added a tub of peri peri sauce to the takeaway. We didn't wait too long and received our order fairly quickly. Everything was packaged very well and stayed warm until we reached home. The chicken is succulent and full of flavour - it did manage to satisfy my craving so I will probably be back! Overall, decent place with average portions.

My grilled chicken is better. Thought we'd give it a shot given the reviews and it was mediocre at best. The spicy rice wasn't spicy...it was plain yellow rice. Cole slaw was nothing out of the ordinary. Chicken was okay but could have used some seasoning...start with salt and pepper. Tables were dirty, hostess/waitress was busy on her phone instead of paying attention to the customers. It was 45 dollars too much. Here's a pic of my grilled chicken...which is ten times better!

Called for a pickup which took forever for barely anything. It was 50 dollars for a wrap and salad and a family platter which had nothing but a small salad and a few pieces of chicken. The place is really clean but extremely empty inside I never see anybody in there. I will not return do to the fact that they charge 50 dollars for food that should be maybe 25 if they're lucky.

We were walking down St Catherine and decided to stop here for a mid-afternoon snack. I've read about the great Portuguese chicken places in Montreal, but didn't pick a specific place beforehand. I am glad we randomly stumbled into this place. We ended up trying the poutine, which was really good, it had the perfect amount of sauce/cheese to fries ratio. We also tried the star attraction, the peri peri chicken. We order the 1/4 chicken (i.e. thigh and leg) with the medium hot sauce, it was disappointingly small (see picture below), although it was tasty, and we weren't too hungry, so I guess it's not a big deal. We also tried the garlic sauce, which was delicious and also tasted well with the poutine. I wanted to try the Portuguese egg tart, unfortunately it was sold out. The woman behind the counter was very nice and brought the food out to our table when it was ready. It was pretty great service for a fast food place.

This isn't one of the best places for Portuguese Chicken in Montreal, but it's the only one closest to Nandos. I had been craving Nandos so my friends told us about the Chicken, Rice and Peri fries here and that if you take your own Nandos sauces from the super market, the experience is similar. We got there around 9, and ordered our meals. Service was efficient and we received our meals within fifteen minutes. The restaurant was almost empty so I was excited to enjoy the meal with the entire place to ourselves. However within five mins, the servers started moving chairs and tables all around us and cleaning up the entire place. They continued this for the entire 45 mins we were there. Closing time was 10:30, so we were a little taken aback that they didn't wait for us to leave before they started this process. It effected our entire experience. Chicken was good, fries had peri powder and tasted good as well, however the rice was bland.

You can get portions of chicken or wraps/sandwiches with choices of sides such as grilled veggies, fries, onion rings, etc. You can also choose one of their sauce to accompany the chicken. Although the sauce is good, the chicken is a bit dry. As for the service, the wait time tends to be a bit slow. The staff is friendly.

For a quick Portuguese chicken, Grillado isn't a bad place. Service is alright. The chicken are good and the fries are delicious too. But do not have high expectations. It's not your regular piri piri spice chicken. As I said, for a quick grab, it is a decent place.

I had heard great things about their wraps so my boyfriend and I stopped in for a bite. I grabbed the 1/4 chicken ($5) + the potato wedges ($3) while he ordered the brochette ($10) and peri fries ($3). After two canned iced teas it came to $25, since it was counter service with some table serving effort we rounded it to $30. The wait time wasn't too bad, but we were disappointed the minute the plates were dropped at the table. We had assumed the brochette would be beef from the description when in fact it was chicken. Wouldn't be so bad if we didn't pay $10 for two meh sized sticks of chicken if it came with a side salad or fries or something. We also got regular fries (that were cold) rather than the ones ordered but wasn't a huge deal. I was happy with the flavor and juiciness of the chicken and the potato wedges would only have been improved by a little less of the very salty seasoning they use. Still tasty. Overall the place didn't have the bang-for-your-buck factor but if you come as a family and grab the full chicken and a few sides I can see how the value would improve. Next time I'll just try the wrap. The reason I can guarantee I'll be back to try it is that as one of about 10 tables in the restaurant, the manager came to speak with us before we left to see if we enjoyed our meal or had any feedback. He was very kind and very open to feedback which was a really nice touch. It's a 3 star, but it's a positive 3 star.

We came here because it was on the way to the apartment where we were staying in Downtown. The ratings were great so I thought why not. Obviously I should have been a bit alarmed by the low number of ratings. Canadians aren't up to reviewing much, obviously. The place is nice and big enough. There was no line and there were only three more couples beside us. Order was super fast (one star), they speak English, but the menu is in French, only the server has one in English (at least that was what happened in our case). I ordered a Double Kebab without a side and my husband ordered a Caesar Salad ($5). Funny enough that one came with a side of fries. Weird. The portions were too small for the price in my opinion. The Kebab especially. It's $8 and you get about 8 pieces of meat with nothing else, unless you pay another $3 for a side dish (rice, fries,...). The food was tasty though (second star), no complaints there, but we won't be returning, that's for sure.

They don't seem to get as much attention as some other poutine places, but don't sleep on this experience. For their price, it is a lot of food, one large serving of their 19$ grilled chicken with sausage and poutine is a great meal that will last you the entire day, it was more than enough for two. They debone two legs of chicken on top of the poutine that they pulled fresh off their grill! Service was fast, there is plenty of room to eat at the restaurant and they have a separate counter for the pastries. We had to get some of their Portuguese tarts (10$ for 6) and they were also amazing. Creamy, custardy, perfectly baked. It reheated well in the air fryer when we brought some back as souvenirs to enjoy. This is a place worth stopping by in Montreal, poutine in one hand and a batch of tarts for dessert on the other.

I'll say half of the 1/2 chicken I ordered was definitely moist and tender, while the other side was a bit dried out. The fat from the skin was nonexistent, so not much flavor other than the sauce that coated the exterior of the chicken. While there was an abundance of fries, which covered every inch of the paper box, sadly they were neither crunchy nor crisp. This was right after opening my box after I paid for my order. I also got the chicken sandwich which was juicer even if it was less majestic than the 1/2 chicken. The flan dessert was somewhat forgettable, I left half of it behind. There was a line up to order but it moved well. There is seating inside however the tables and chairs were in need of a good wipe down.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Casual Korean eatery. Great combos…read morewith lots of variety. Everything was tasty. The Long Version: My husband and I went here for lunch. I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)

This restaurant reminds me of the types of places I used to go to with my parents and grandparents. It just brought back a sense of nostalgia. We got here right when they opened on a Sunday morning and were one of the first tables there. When we told the servers that we were visiting from the US and that Chalet came highly recommended, they took pity on us (rightfully so) and then gave us a 5 star experience. We got the chicken special that came with fries, baked potato, Cole slaw and chicken soup and you cannot forget about the gravy! I'm not a Cole slaw conossieur but it was some of the Cole slaw I've ever had. Very finely shredded and the perfect combo of tangy and sweet. The chicken was perfectly roasted and I was so sad that I was getting full off of all the homestyle sides that I couldn't eat all the chicken. But the gravy? Good god that gravy, it's been weeks and I'm still thinking about it. I'm not even a big gravy person but this was savory heavy with a kick at the end. They gave us multiple cups, one for dipping and one for slipping! Come for the food and service, this place is full of regulars and appreciate the hospitality from our servers (I believe Janet or Janice and another friendly lady!)
